The WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!! Had a horrible experience that someone just broke into our booked twin room when we were resting on the bed!!! It was during the evening, me and my partner came back to the hotel to rest a bit before dinner. When we were resting, we first heard someone knocked the door and we didn’t answer. Then we heard some noise and just few minutes after a guy used a card to open our door to come into the room!!! He saw my partner and immediately went out of the room. We then went downstairs to tell the staffs what happened to us. They first said the person is definitely not the staff member and then they didn’t take it seriously and didn’t want to call the police. We called the police and they offered the solution of waiting for the manager come to check who opened the door (which means we need to wait there for 2 hours). We decided to move to another hotel and wait for the response by phone call. But until now, we have been tried to contact them for more than 3 hours. NO RESPONSE. This hostel does not have any measures preventing from strangers from walking in and up the stairs to any floor. No security measures. If you have to stay there. Be super cautious! Especially single female travelers!!

We stayed for 5 days and were unfortunately enough to get one of the first rooms near the stairwell and elevator. I have never experienced so much noise from an utter lack of sound proofing on the doors. You can hear everything, every single door slam, every talking guest in the hallway. We arrived on a Saturday so there were plenty of residents out partying and getting in the wee hours of the morning, this coupled with most of the other guests are teenagers on school trips, there's noise from the halls most of the evening. It's just horrendous, it is without a doubt the noisiest hotel room I've ever stayed in. Room 327 avoid it at all costs!

Terrible hostel at which we had to call the police. The security at this hotel is horrible. There are drunk people randomly roaming the corridors shouting and cursing at people but worst of all we had a random person enter our room while my partner and I were sleeping. We mentioned this to the staff at the hostel and they assured us it wasn't any of the staff who entered our room. The hostel staff informed us they'd let us know who entered our room but after having called them on multiple occasions we finally were able to reach them in the morning after the incident happened (we switched to another location in the meantime). Only for them to tell us they couldn't give us any information. All in all this has been the worst hostel experience I've had, the place is very unsafe and the staff are anything but helpful. Do not stay at this location. 0/5 stars.

If the hotel was +18 it would be great. There is TOO MANY teenagers groups maybe school trips I don't know but it was a nightmare. Hotel has no noise insulation at all. The teens were talking running yelling in corridors at night and at early morning. When we told them to keep quiet they started banging our door and running away. We told this to reception and they tried warning them and even put a security there but when next day the guy has gone they started again. It needs to be the last hotel in Berlin for me to go there again. It was really a nightmare. Think a lot before going there. I didn't check on comments before going, I hope people see these before going. Except these, if you have hearing problems, the rooms are big and good with a cute view and the staff is so friendly.

Quite a large and affordable hotel/hostel. Looks more like a hotel in my opinion. I needed a place to sleep for 2 nights when in Berlin and happy with what I found on short notice. Less than a kilometer away from the train station too. For a few extra Euros you can include breakfast. Breakfast is a buffet and plenty of options Only gave it 4 stars since my room wasn't cleaned properly and the wall had paint missing. But still worth it and would come again

Found ourselves stranded in Berlin after a flight cancellation so we resorted to booking here for 2 nights. Rooms are basic but quite nice. Only issue with the room is that when you sleep you can feel yourself sticking to the plastic mattress topper and the bed sheet is very thin. Also it’s quite noisy!!! Other guests in the next rooms are inconsiderate and people run down the hallways.

Had a bad experience here with items stolen from our room. We were staying in a twin room, not a shared room. The staff did not seem sympathetic or want to help us call the police. This hostel does not have any measures preventing from strangers from walking in and up the stairs to any floor. The rooms are nice enough, and proximity to the bus and train station is great, but we did not feel safe here.

Staff did not stick to written agreements and called the police to kick us out of our meeting room before checkout time, even after reaching an agreement with the reception desk. Rooms are warm, bathrooms lack ventilation which makes them very unpleasant in warm weather. Beds are fine, location is good. Hallways are noisy, lots of talking kids and music.

We had a pleasant stay at A&O Hostel. It's located super near to the central station and therefore it was easy to reach all the sides we wanted to see. The rooms where clean and equipped with all essentials. The staff was helpful and friendly. And the breakfast had to offer a lot of vegetarian options, which I was happy about. We'll come again!

After staying at a nice hotel for a week my departure flight was cancel and I decided to go for a cheap stay (not that cheap anyway). Worst mistake ever!! I was put in a room shared with people I felt uncomfortable with. I feared for my safety the whole night. Extreme poor service from the guy at the reception. Nasty and dirty rooms 🤢. I’ll rather spend 50 eur and stay at a proper hotel. Totally worth doing. 👎🏻

You have to rent bedding if you don't have your own, service is almost nonexistent, which is kind of expected.... You get assigned a room but not a bunk so there was confusion which bunk is taken and which ones are free... Bunks do come with a reading light and a shelf which is nice. Also, it was full of incredibly loud teenagers.

I do not really understand all the bad reviews. Is in 10 min walk from train station, clean rooms and good showers/toilets. I was at hostels all over the world abd this one was actually quite nice. But the best part is that reception worker was nice and willing to help. I had a small problem and we figured out a suitable solution realy fast and without any long discussions Breakfast was a bit boring, but once more, it's an affordable clean friendly hostel in the middle of Berlin, not a restaurant, so I was completely satisfied with that Would definitely recommend! :)

it was a nice stay @a&o, decent breakfast, room was clean, Also you will find everything that you need for stay, central station was on walking distance. Only thing if you want to stay with kids it can be difficult to sleep for them as this is hotel + hostel so it's Little noisy sometimes due to bachelors, otherwise all good. Thanks for your service, Cheers!

Very convenient location about 800 meters from Berlin Central Station. You can walk or take a bus. Taxi is available at all hours. Next door is the Indonesian Embassy in Berlin. The place is a little bit noisy with busloads of teenagers but all was quiet after 10 pm. Alcohol is served at this place besides other drinks including coffee. Didn't try the buffet breakfast. The staff is very friendly and all of them speaks excellent English. Overall, very good experience.

Der Preis im Vergleich zu den Dienstleistungen ist sehr gut. Die Zimmer sind sauber und warm und die Betten sind bequem. Nettes und hilfsbereites Personal. Ausgezeichnete Lage.

We were satisfied with our stay. Awesome location near Berlin Hbf (only 10 minutes away). The staff were very friendly and polite. In the room we had everything we needed. - Pillows were quite uncomfortable. The floor was a bit dirty, but just a bit, so it wasn’t a big deal. But overall everything was good.

I would say an ideal choice for budget-conscious young travelers. The evening lobby experience is delightful, providing a relaxed atmosphere for socializing with friends over a couple of beers and music. Its location ensures excellent connectivity, and the rooms maintain cleanliness, leaving little room for complaints. Overall, a great option for affordable and enjoyable accommodation.

Good place to stay for not so much money., felt safe. Great location for people who want to do a lot of sightseeing, rooms were totally fine for this price, rather tidy and the beds are comfy. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

I was there during three days, I have forgotten a scarf, but support simply responded that they did not find it. One of the most important criteria for me when evaluating a travel destination is the ability to trust the host. The cleaning service simply took its scarf for itself, or it got lost at some stage of management - all this does not favor A&O. I contacted support twice and received an answer that there was no scarf.

Not reccommended for groups !! According to Hostel Policy windows can only be tilted and not opened entirely to allow for some free fresh air.. they lock this feature and even upon request will not open it. Imagine a room full of 8 people & one stinky little toilet with no window I think I just had my first prison experience ! The lady at reception was so unfriendly too I can imagine asking for such a humane request and being turned down . If you have allergies I strongly advise to stay away . One upside is its closer to the train station but doesn't really help when you cant breathe does it ?

  • 2/5 Amandine G. 4 months ago on Google
The first two nights were ok but then we had a group of children running ans screaming at 1am. It seems pretty usual from what I can see on the reviews. We also had a homeless woman in our dorm who was snoring, farting and burping, fortune she stayed one night only. Be aware that due to the fact this hostel is close to the train station, every night a person will arrive at midnight or 1am and wake up the whole dormitory. Why they don't have a special dormitory for this late check in people? The fact that many reviews say a man can enter into a female dormitory (a girl in my dormitory told me it happened to her) is scary and should be taken seriously by the hostel rather than the answer they always give.

  • 5/5 Reinhart L. 5 months ago on Google
Remember what little you have to pay for a bed there: ultra budget dorm rooms. Had nice and interesting roommates. Friendly and helpful staff. Food and drink at the bar is not cheap in October 2023.

a&o hostel has always been a great experience, in every city I have been to! It’s a perfect place for young travellers who are able to meet new people in this hostel. The rooms are always provided with almost everything you need and the staff is kind and understandable. The food is not the best, but it’s okay for the price you have to pay for it. I have been to the ones in Berlin, Vienna and Salisburg, and I never had anything to complain about.

Maybe it's just me, but I can't understand the bad reviews. I have already been there for two times due to urgencies and I am generally satisfied. Their strategic location, very clean and cozy room, fine option of all-you-can-eat breakfast menu, easy and simple to check in-out, literally 24h standby personal, and most importantly their gentle, polite, and helpful workers, just like Hafidz and Junaid. Thank you guys. Keep the good work and see you next time!

Great value and location. We take students for school trips and have stayed in this hostel a few times already. It gets really busy during breakfast hours and the buffet area is always crowded. We asked the staff to help us with the jacket a child left near the pool table and it took two times to ask before they looked in lost and found and actually found the jacket. Otherwise, the staff is friendly and the rooms are clean.

We were lucky and got an early check-in (not always available, but if possible they will accommodate. If you are early in town like us and your room isn't yet ready, there are also lockers for your luggage while you explore the city till check-in time.) It's about a 10 minute walk from the main train station, located on a quiet street. Our room with private bath was clean and quiet, great for the very inexpensive rate! There is free wifi, a little store with snacks and drinks, a pool table and air hockey, computer station, a small bar and a pizza kiosk outside. Front desk is staffed with friendly and helpful people. The room was very quiet overnight. Also within easy walking distance are things like grocery stores and kiosks and there's a delicious restaurant close, too: Saigon Bowl that i can highly recommend for delicious affordable cozy dining! With the Sbahn it's only easy minutes from main tourist attractions like the Museumsninsel, Alexanderplatz, Brandenburger Tor, etc. Next time in Berlin we will be back here for sure! Here's my review of Saigon Bowl, about 500m from the hotel, on the same quiet street: https://goo.gl/maps/L58Xvd83sgvR4gMe6

Super affordable place to stay if you are looking only for sleep. Price to standard I think is really good. Rooms clean, warm and cosy - we had private one, so I cannot say anything about dormitories. Share space downstairs also nicely renovated & supplied. Bus station 3 minutes from entrance.

Whats good: 1) Relatively high internet speed (as compared to some other hotels in Germany i have stayed) 2) Reasonable breakfast 3) Responsible staff. A staff took the trouble to head to level 0 to get hot water for me to make tea, after she found out the machine at the breakfast area is not working What may not be good: 1) I stayed at A&O in Hamburg as well. Seems like all A&O room lightings are pretty bad. Found it hard to read stuff in the room. 2) Someone came knocking on my door on the first night, saying there was a mistake in check in process. Thankfully they didnt ask me to change room. 3) It is quite a distance from train station and not many buses pass by A&O vicinity

I had booked a double room for my wife and myself. In one sentence I would say excellent service from the reception. Room was well cleaned and all the accessories were available (hairdryer, towels, soaps, tissue). I had to change my booking for some reason then A&O Berlin team made it very easily. They allowed us to make a early check-in, which was really helpful in that day. Thanks A&O Hostel

Average hostel/hotel. Location 1/5 as it is around 1 km from Hauptbahnhof Central station with no access to any Tram or Metro station. Rooms are small and windows cannot be opened fully. It was too warm inside.

  • 5/5 Israel T. 2 years ago on Google
There is just one word to describe this place, "wonderful." I have been in many Hostels across different big cities and for sure this one has been the best, you get more than what you pay. The 8 room is big, clean, it includes a personal bathroom and toilet for all 8. The beds have a place to have a lot of your belongings next to you all the time and if you need extra space, it is possible to store it in the secure bins under the bed (lock not included, bring yours ;) ). I am very satisfied with the place and on top of that next to Hauptbahnhof. I would have paid more for such a great place.

great place for young people, cheap and cozy. nice and full breakfast for only 6€ and kind staff. the only annoying thing is we can hear noise from the other rooms at night, but i definitely recommend this place otherwise

  • 2/5 Daisy-May R. 1 year ago on Google
The accommodation is conveniently close to the train station, but that’s where the benefits end. The rooms were untidy (even after staff cleaning), the bathrooms were smelly and there were no lockers in the rooms so I felt unsafe leaving my valuables at the hostel. Beyond this, none of the bedside charging ports work. We asked to be changed rooms to one with working ports and were moved to another room (the staff were lovely in managing this request) where the ports also did not work. For this reason, this hostel is not well equipped for travellers who need phones to navigate Berlin.

  • 5/5 Callie G. 2 years ago on Google
The front desk people were very helpful, and all spoke English as well as German and a few other languages. The room was tiny, but it warmed up quickly. I didn't fully appreciate that at the time, but now that I'm at their Kolumbus hostel I realize what a luxury that was. The rooms here are freezing, the heaters are useless. You have to wear a jacket in the rooms. I stayed in a private room and housekeeping was good about not bothering me when I had the do not disturb sign up.

  • 4/5 Ankit T. 2 years ago on Google
The hostel is near to hauptbahnhof. It had only 8 beds dorm which are clean and neat. Every bed has 2 USB charging points and small reading light. The reception has some games to play which are paid games. There is a common garden area where you can smoke. Overall nice location, nice place, cheap and good environment.

Canceling and refunding of our reservation after two weeks and two days before arrival was too bad!!! They said that they are full while they had empty rooms and we reserved the room again with a higher cost!

  • 4/5 Emilia F. 1 year ago on Google
The rooms clean and big enough and the reception was very friendly and price per night was very fair! The location is fantastic, 10 minutes away by foot from the central station and there are many e-scooters right in front of the hostel. The prices for drinks are appropriate. Unfortunately, there are no drawers, etc. in the room to store clothes in and the air is quite stuffy. It was nice to have a kitchen and even access to a fridge, but very few guests seem to clean up after themselves, meaning the few utensils were always dirty. The staff doesn‘t do much against this: only hand soap and sponges are provided to to do the dishes with and there is nothing to dry them off with. At night, guests in front of the hostel and in the hallways are quite loud. Other than that, it was a nice stay!

Good place during your stay in Berlin, it's close to Hauptbanhof central station where you can go anywhere to discover Berlin. The rooms were clean when I arrived, but the cleaning service didn't clean the room during my stay except changing towels. Overall, it's a good place

This is an alright hotel, a ten minute walk away from Berlin Hauptbahnhof Station. When we entered, the lounge was busy and loud. The kind guy at reception gave us free linen even though on the website it said you had to pay for it. We were on the 1st floor. Room was spotless. We almost lost our second key card though, but luckily we found it at the last second. I recommend.

  • 4/5 Damian K. 1 year ago on Google
Overall a nice place for a night. Close to the main station. The room was a bit small, and one window that can't be fully opened was not enough to fight the hot weather. In the night it was rather loudly outside, but it was to be expected from a place full of students.

  • 4/5 Bella W. 1 year ago on Google
We came with a group of 23, even though we had big group rooms it was an really enjoyable stay. We had fun in the lobby and even got to use the dining room for game night! The staff was always really nice and helpful. The breakfast was very tasty and we had an appropriatly big choice! Even though it could have been a tad tidier and cleaner All in all I would recommend and come here again! Thank you

  • 5/5 Maciek S. 1 year ago on Google
Fantastic place to stay for young people/students and party animals. There is always someone in the lobby, so it's easy to meet new people. You can feel the party in the air there, and we like it loud so it was an advantage for us, but if you're traveling with kids, or looking for a quiet place, I probably wouldn't recommend it. Our room was neat and tidy. Nothing exceptional, but it's everything you would expect for this price. Location is fantastic, only 10 minutes walk from Berlin Central Station. It would be nice if it was possible to make the deposit to play the pool by card. The ATM inside the hotel charges you around €5.

Stayed here with my friends for 3 nights. really enjoyed it. The rooms were clean and had everything you need in there. Breakfast is a buffet and has many options, so you won't get bored. The location is very close to the Berlin main train station, so it's great if you are traveling to and from other cities. It is great for the price.

the seats in the room were too small and slippery i fell off and hurt my back, there was also 8 beds in our room and only 7 seats. the beds should have curtains for more privacy. cleanliness wasn’t great as my bed was quite dirty when i got there and the containers under the beds that we were expected to put clothes in were very dusty and had melted chocolate in them, the radiators were also very dusty so we weren’t able to dry our wet clothes after it rained, also the other people on our trip staying in a different room had a dirty toilet. we had to make our own beds which was a pain when i had been travelling all day and just wanted to sleep. the steps on the bunk beds were painful on my feet and the metal part at the top of the steps was in a silly place, everyone in my room smacked their head on it at least once. the windows didn’t open wide enough in our room but in other rooms ether did, the radiators were on too high and we couldn’t get fresh air from the windows. the towels weren't big enough to cover our bodies, also the towel heater in the bathroom didn’t seem to be turned on so our towels didn’t dry at all, we now have to travel home with wet towels. the food was so bad every night we had to go out and buy our own food, we spend so much on this hotel and then had to waste money because no one ate anything they served on an evening and the packed lunch bags we got, also lots of food was labelled vegan but there was nothing labelled halal, pancake machine didn’t work properly, toaster was difficult to work. we had a room of 7 and there was not enough space for 7 people. the shower was very cramped. nothing in the bathroom to put our toothbrushes in and nowhere in the shower to put body wash or a bar of soap. not enough charging ports in the rooms and some were even broken. the person sleeping next to the window saw a rat running around the courtyard one night. no bath mat for the shower so we had to waste a towel to put in the floor so the floor was dry and no one would slip.we didn’t have a shoe rach but other rooms did. many metal items were placed badly which caused someone to bump they’re head on the shoe rach (not our room). staff were difficult to identify and they were quite rude, didn’t move when asked to and didn’t seem to want to help us when asked. couldn’t get the shower to the correct temperature. only good thing was the sandwiches we made at breakfast and the juice machine.
