Pros: quiet but safe area, walking distance to trams and metro. Lobby and the room is pretty new Cons: wifi is barely working. Music on the lobby was just too loud that I needed to talk on the phone outside. The events(welcome party, kareoke night etc) does not happen on winter. Everything except the room itself is an extra cost like keeping the luggage for a couple of hours, late check out (even by 45min) and towels. No kitchen area

One of the worst stays of my life. The sheets are provided on the ground level, you have to carry them to your room. Then, you have to do everything, sheets, bed clothes, pillowcases all by yourself, which takes a lot of time, especially if you are a tourist and use the place for a short night's sleep. There aren't any towels either. You have to pay for it, I think. There isn't any soap in the bathroom, which was the worst. You cannot clean your hands. They could have easily charged people a couple of more euros and put one soap in the bathroom. I would be glad... And when you're leaving, you have to take your sheets, pillow case and everything, and carry it downstairs, and leave them there. The only thing that I liked was the cleanliness, and the design of the entrance I think.

Went there expecting a basic cheap hostel but was pleasantly surprised. The lobby and breakfast area was being refurbished and looked great. The rooms were modern with a sink and lock boxes for securing luggage (if you have a padlock). Shared toilets were clean. All the beds had charging ports and light switches and the bedding all supplied too. Only a 2 minute walk from Alexanderplatz where you can eat or get trains trams etc... Overall would recommend staying there as great price for what you get.

Stayed in a 6 bed room with private toilet. Overall clean, like that we pick up our clean sheets ourselves, I like that the shower and toilet is separate so we can take turns more flexibly in the morning. Basic good breakfast. Lobby ambience is cool. Lockers and laundry in basement, lockers with a charge (if want to use after checkout). Super close to Alexanderplatz. Overall would recommend.

We had really bad luck with our roommates and when we arrived the staff was rude. However, on the next day when we asked to change rooms it was done really easily and after that we had the best experience! The staff changed and was really friendly :) The bathrooms weren't cleaned everyday like was promised though and they became quite dirty quickly. The location is the best thing about this hostel!

I stayed for three days with a friend. I don't think at any point the rooms were cleaned. They say there are lockers in the rooms, which is true, but you have to buy a padlock in order to lock them. You have to take the sheets from the ground floor and make the bed yourself. WiFi kept disconnecting. The room was very hot and the windows couldn't be opened because one of the beds was in the way (very small room for six people).

This place is great because it is full of surprises. Will they clean the bathroom that day? Maybe! Will they run out of toilet paper in the whole hostel? Hey they did during my stay so why not do it again! Will there be a bunch of small flies in the shower? Absolutely! This place was so great because it was the nastiest hostel I have ever stayed in.

Why is this hostel central and okay in price? Because they don't have a kitchen! I didn't know you could categorize as a hostel if you don't have a kitchen you can use. That's the whole point of a hostel, right?? Also: no paper towels for your hands in the bathroom 2 days in a row. Some beds have a light and a socket to charge your phone, others don't (why??!!) The room was nice&big tho, with a sink which was great. Wifi doesn't work properly at all. They charge to leave your bag after checkout

Seriously, stay away from this place. You get what you pay for. And it's not a hostel: They don't have kitchenettes or refrigerators to prepare your own food. That is what a hostel is. This is, unfortunately, the worst hostel I've ever been to and some specific front desk staff are aggressive, rude, slow and lazy. Can't really say it was a good stay. First I arrived early and was made to wait all day to check in. This was as expected, because of my travel itinerary. Luggage storage cost money and the basement toilets were really disgusting and dirty. Actually, everything costs money here, even shampoo, towels and hand soap after a visit to the toilet. It does not come as a surprise they have a covid issue still. Then they told me they would come get me when it was time for check-in, which they never did because the guy left. Then I had to do my own bedsheets. Then someone else was already staying in my bed when I finally got to the room. Then they ended kicking me out when I dared to complain and not refunding me. By the way, I have video evidence of the staff's aggressive, untoward, and not least unprofessional behavior. The girl in line after me looked downright scared and questioned her stay at the hostel.

The hotel was fine. We stayed for 3 night. First night nothing wrong, but the second night I got a dry hard piece of bread thrown at my head. Third night we came back from the amazing christmasmarket at Alexanderplatz. There were like 20 people standing in front of the hostel. I got punched in the face and they left. So overall pretty okay experience, thanks for the stay!

Good hostel and good for the price you pay. I stayed in a 4 bed dorm. It was not super clean but it was OK. Take your towel and some soap with you ! Sheets are provided. Location is great, 5 minutes walk from Alexander Platz. Staff is very friendly. Overall a good stay !

This hostel is such a ripoff! The rooms are tiny, there is no soap, no towels, you have to make your own bed and it costs 50€ per night? This is not appropriate! A reasonable price would be 20€ per night. Never again! I am glad we only booked one night!

The place has just been taken over by a new company and they should've waited longer before opening again. The rooms are clean and comfortable but the place is a building site. At 9:30 they start drilling and there's builders knocking on the doors - I was in a women's only room so that was slightly alarming. There's no lockers downstairs either which is frustrating. It's in a great place with good prices though

Stayed at this hostel recently for 2 nights and had a blast! Great place to stay in Berlin and see some sights easily. The hostel bar has a very cool vibe to it! The bartender Fiachra made me the nicest drink I've had in a while! It made me sleepy and next thing I remember I was in bed. Thanks Fiachra and the rest of the staff for a great night.. WILL RETURN :D

I will NOT be going back here. Booked for 4 nights, left after 1. Staff were abrasive and unhelpful. Atmosphere was rough. No pillow on the bed; staff answer was "it happens". Ended up folding the duvet as a pillow. So no duvet for the night. Lockers were just cabinets; no way to physically lock them (so free valuables for all!). No toilet paper in the dorm bathroom. Staff answer "we can send some up later" No kitchen...its a hostel...but no kitchen... Location was walkable to Alexanderplatz. Only upside. Save your money and stay at a hostel elsewhere.

Kate ‘The Kiwi’ was absolutely amazing and so helpful with local food/drinks - she goes above and beyond. She met me downstairs playing shuffleboard with a handwritten list of good places to visit. Highly recommend this hostel. Amazing staff.

Slept here from Thursday to Sunday. I was with a larger group and slept in a room with private bathroom with three other group members. The rooms were very clean and felt quite luxurious. Breakfast was good, but a little bit expensive (8,50 for a simple buffet). I forgot my towel but bought one for 5 euros at the reception.

Bunk beds of 8 in a room. Location-wise super/5, easy access to anywhere. Cheap to stay for a few nights and depending on your roommates the nights can be either great or well, not so great. Luckily I had evening-silent ones so there wasn't any ruckus. This place is great for short-time staying, but if you plan on really staying staying for multiple nights, perhaps a room of 1 would be a better option.

Windows are made out of paper! Was a bit hard to sleep on first floor. If you are over 180cm, the beds might be too short for you to lay straight. Even with closed windows you could hear people talking below the room, same with traffic. Location is pretty good, not far to major attractions. And it was easy to get to from airport, just 1 train. Staff was great, and pleasant.

Rooms are lovely. Spacious beds and toilets. Bar advertised to close at 6am and closes at 10:30. Staff inattentive and don’t seem to care. Washed clothes, went to use the drier as I was leaving the next day and the driers didn’t work. I asked the man at reception for help and he told ‘oh yeah they don’t work, ring the company.’ They could at least let people know that they were out of service. Very unimpressed.

Jonathan is the reason why I love this venue. Excellent service but an even better bloke! Helped out with different stuff the whole night. My girlfriend was actually really upset so Jonothan took her upstairs and made love to her the whole night. He let her do some unspeakable things and even let me watch from the corner. On another occasion someone lit my car on fire and he actually saved me from the burning wreck. Instead of taking me to hospital he healed me himself with his beautiful, gentle hands. So grateful for his service and letting me marry his Victoria Secret model sister at the end of my trip. Grateful for his service and definitely coming back! Jonothan is the man!!!!

Nicer than most hostels I've been to. I stayed with the 1 room for 1 month rent offer and I think that for the area and the price it was worth it. Rooms are clean and conveniently furnished (each bed has their own electrical sockets and reading lamps which is always great !), the kitchen is clean too especially considering it is a shared kitchen. My only concerns are that while it didn't apply to me (since I had a room for myself), the rooms are tiny especially for 4 people. There is also no way to close the bathroom and the bathroom door is made out of glass.... which isn't great for privacy. The staff was okay. Some were really friendly and some other quite cold.

Very clean and hospitable. We were placed in a room where another guest occupied one of our beds. Can the receptionist was very helpful and understanding. He immediately booked another room for us and apologized on behalf of the hotel. Thank you so much for hiring such people.

With 6 of us travelling together, we had a full room to ourselves. It was big enough, with ample storage for our few days of clothes, and the shower being separate to the toilet was a useful bonus. The hotel is made by the staff though. After a heavy night and losing my key card, they were more than happy to replace it, free of charge. And when I lost my wallet the following night, they even posted it back to me all the way to England.

This hostel is very centrally located and the beds are comfy, but I disliked the lack of any sort of shower mats in the shared showers, and some of my travelling companions complained about the rooms being small. In addition to this, the main foyer was under construction during our visit and as such there was no bar or canteen available.

  • 1/5 Lauren C. 8 months ago on Google
First of all the hostel did not inform us that they were undergoing renovations therefore all of the hostel facilities such as laundry, kitchen, bar, restaurant and common areas that we were promised were not available for guest use. On the first night we noticed that the shower wasn't draining properly and told staff immediately. They ensured that a handyman would be there tomorrow morning to fix the issue. That night the shower still wasn't draining so we told staff again and they told us that they would send another handyman up tomorrow. The shower issue was never resolved and no handyman ever showed up. On our final night the hostel hosted a school group who were all extremely loud and drinking excessive amounts of alcohol in the hallways and downstairs area. The hostel sped up downstairs renovations so that the kitchen and dining area was complete before the school group arrived yet we were told we couldn't use these facilities because it was reserved for the school children. Our roommate that joined us on the last night didn't speak good english and didn't understand when we tried warning him about the shower. The shower ended up flooding the entire hostel room. When we informed staff they seemed angry and tried to charge us for the towels we had to use to mop up all the water. When checking out we requested some sort of compensation for the troubles as none of us were able to shower properly for 4 days, no handyman ever showed up to fix the problem and we weren't informed about renovations. The staff member at checkout told us she could only refund half of our first night which was not good enough. Tried to speak with a manager but according to staff he was "in and out all day" and "they didn't know what times he would be at the hostel?? Would highly recommend staying at another hostel in Berlin.

Quite possibly the worst place I have ever stayed at in my entire life. The rooms are absolutely disgusting, they look clean at first but when you take a closer look there's garbage everywhere. The shower flooded the entire room whenever anyone used it, it took hotel management over 5 days to get someone to look at it. Drinks are expensive compared to other spots in the city (save your money and go to literally any other bar). One of the windows in my room was held only by a single hinge, it looked like it was about to fall off. When I left my room the day before I was supposed to leave the hostel, one of the staff told me I was already checked out of the hostel and I had to find another place to stay. The wifi did not work throughout the hostel and I was forced to use roaming data for the duration of my stay. The only upside to this hostel is it's proximity to the major tourist attractions in Berlin. The location is great for traveling via the metro to just about everywhere else in Berlin. The fact that this is described as a "luxury hostel" is facetious. Avoid this place at all costs.

I recently stayed at this hostel and I only have one word to describe it…Jonathan. Class, respect, hard working, dedicated, and sensational. Those are only a few words I can use to describe Jonathan. I could write a full novel about this young man’s service and hospitality he has showed me thus far. I came to see Berlin, but I stayed to hang out with Jonathan!

This venue is by far a city highlight, better than any German Christmas market. Jonathon brings the expertise and confidence to offer you a unique and luxurious experience. Upon arrival, he shouted me and my girlfriends 5 free rounds of shots. He personally opened every single door for us and even deadlifted our suitcases up the stairs.

  • 5/5 Tasman L. 4 months ago on Google
The door handles suck but Jonathan and the hostel don't! Beautiful rooms and such incredible showers that I considered just sleeping under that perfect water pressure. If you are in Berlin stay at the Generator. You won't regret it.

If you are looking for a good price, great location, cleanliness, big lounge, self-service laundry, and a breakfast to offer for a fee. This hostel is worth trying. Take note though that there are two sides of the building(room) is facing. One is facing in the busy highway (which I was assigned) in the night you may hear every cars, police and ambulance cars passing if you leave the window half-opened coz closing the window will be uncomfortably hot and the other side is facing holiday inn and hotel indigo guests rooms which is very quiet during the night. The cleanliness of the area was also good including the shared showers and toilets. p.s you have to put the linens by yourself but it's a good thing coz you know that they are washed (you can get them in front of the lobby elevator) though the pillow is not comfortable coz they are small. Nonetheless, I will consider this hostel if I come back to Berlin.

Decent bang for your buck. The sheets weren't as clean as I would have hoped. Friendly and helpful staff. The room windows are positioned opposite a run-down parking lot, so not the best sights.

We traveled with a huge group so we required 7 rooms and with each room it got worse. One of the groups had their entire room covered with mold, especially in the bathroom and only after asking for a new room it got taken care of. If the staff actually checks the room after each stay they should have seen, that this was unacceptable and extremely bad for their customer's health. The showers overflowded multiple times in nearly every room and the cleaning-service is the worst I have ever experienced! There isn't a "do not disturb" sign, so the cleaning ladies will just walk in without knocking or anything, which is why it happened multiple times that we were asleep and woken up when they came in and were being extremely loud. And even then did they NOT clean the bathroom! Other aspects: -There are no towels so you need to bring your own if you don't want to pay extra. -No soap in the bathroom, buy it on your own. -You need to put the bedsheets on yourself after getting them downstairs. (<-We found hair in the "freshly cleaned" sheets which were not our own) After your stay you gotta bring those down. -The mattresses are not only thin but also have multiple spots on them. -The curtains have some weird stains on them. -The windows cannot be opened proberly -Half of the staff (such as the cleaning ladies) are rude, but the others very kind. -No air conditioning!! Even with 36°C

Nice hotel, but the staff leaves a lot to be desired. At the reception, one did not ask if it was all right for us to live in the same room with the Russians. We are Ukrainian refugees because of the Russian invasion, so it was not okay. Besides, our roommate was high and smoked inside the room. It's a pity, that staff did nothing when we explained the situation. They told that "It's not our problem". The accommodation and placement are really good, so wish you to be more client-oriented.

I think that this is a very good hostel. It has smiling staff at reception desk and other departments. Rooms and beds are also good. It offers good breakfast service.

It was the best hostel I've ever been to, it was clean and beautiful, moreover the spaces were great. Unfortunately I'm not giving 5 stars because of the staff, some of them was rude and not so much organized. I would come back anyway, being at 1 minute walking from Alexanderplatz it's amazing.

  • 2/5 Andrea M. 2 years ago on Google
The Hostel seemed nice, focused on young people. But every "attraction" from the pictures was demolished or out of order. The whole personnel was amazing and helpful! But this is the only good thing. They advertise two boxes where you can lock your stuff (you have to bring your own padlock or buy one), you have to do your own bed (which is quite fine) and there is no kitchen, so no place where you can cook or at least put some food into the fridge. The main lock on our door didnt work well. So personnel amazing (thank you) but I wouldnt recommend it.

BEWARE: they will not tell you on website or over the phone, they are going through renovations, lockers in basement are not available and some lockers in the rooms as well. We have no place to secure our belongings except near train station. They also will not accommodate or give partial refund for not including all amenities listed in our price. Do not recommended any generator facilities

Their service is some of the worst. They almost never clean the rooms, and when they do, they do not do it properly at all. Their breakfast is not that good either. They have no fresh bread as their bread always tastes old. One can easily hear the sound from another room. Their employees are also very disrespectful to customers. Do not recommend it.

Had a night there, rooms are clean and pretty spacious, bathrooms as well. But the service could be upgraded, while we checked in, the receptionist told us to wait for a minute but did not come back... and 3 other groups passed before that the second receptionist decided to make our check in. Things happened like it was usual, not a slight apology. The politic of bedsheets is kind of strange, you have to make your own bed.

We stayed there. A very good option for budget travellers. But you should bring your own soap. Handwash, toilet papers. There are lockers but no locks. It's better to bring your own lock too. And also your towels. I didn't check, but there was a price for towels mentioned behind the reception. So, probably they don't provide towels. Otherwise nobody would buy their's. Luckily I had my own towel. Bunk beds have charging port near your head. But no USB ports. Bring your adapter. I stayed on the 9th floor, or 6, I forgot. But the room was on the side of the street and bright. Not damp. Per bunk around 13 euro per night. And also there is a Netto nereby. Alexanderplatz is very close. You can buy all thevmetro/day tickets from there.

Room: we have to make our own bed, the sheets, pillow cases and Duvets. Found food particles on the bed as we checked in. There is absolutely no facilities in terms of basic toiletries or towels. No floor mats in the washroom. Service / Staff: Unhelpful and arrogant. Expect nothing at all. Facilities: On the second day of stay. The lift did not go all the way up to the 10th floor and we had to alight at 9th floor and take the stairs up. This wasn’t fixed the next day either. Price: Not worth it at all. Expensive for 0 service received. Would not recommend this as there are many other hostels with better experience and facilities.

Wonderful environment! As a hostel, definitely achieved all my expectations. The night ambient is pretty cool to meet people at the bar, the rooms are enough quiet. Just a tip: Don't bring beers from any other side, since only can take the ones they sell inside, otherwise, take that others outside the hostel.

Great place, very clean and tidy. The staff is lovely and very helpful. I had issues with my roommate on my second day and they were quick to sort me another room, with no questions asked, just helped me relax. Also used the laundry facility and it’s a bit expensive, but it’s just fine, would come to this hostel again, very complete. Thank you everybody and keep up the good work !!!!

The place is clean and located 5mins walkable distance from AlexanderPlatz Station which connects to Berlin Central Station. The staff is helpful too. Option to lock the cupboard with the keyless card could have added more security to the things. Breakfast options are good but there are no name tags near each food item, so it's hard to find what is what. WiFi is available in all the places but it's going ON and OFF in room 381 cots 5,6 and I'm not sure about the other rooms. Overall good experience

Very inconsiderate! I had a family emergency and had to cancel 2 days prior to my booking, in this difficult time they told me to call multiple times, send emails and yet at the end wrote to me denying my request. They simply pull you along so that you book and when a problem arises their answer is "system doesn't allow us to do it.!" when you talk on call they will agree and even say we will do the refund but nothing ever will be processed. Bad experience , inconsiderate team, only chasing money!

Very cool youthful place, in the last couple of months of traveling it's some of the best workers. It's a shame that you are still under renovation and many options are not available, but overall very very cool

I got charged an additional 87 euros for a processing error on their end. I've called 4 times and emailed more and they have been no help. Wifi is hardly effective. The rooms are standard for a hostel and location is fine.

The place did and didn’t meet our expectations. There were a few things we enjoyed and thought were good but there were a few things that were not great. We enjoyed the friendly and helpful staff and they had options for you to buy important things like locks, plugs, ear plugs. The down stairs common space was okay, but nothing amazing. The room was nice, there was good storage, only some you could lock, we were in an 8 bed dorm. Unfortunately the hostel had no out of room forced times for cleaning, so the 4 days we were in Berlin one guy literally stayed in bed the whole time and the curtains didn’t get opened and it smelt really bad of body odor. Plus only one of the 3 windows in the room worked so we couldn’t really air it out. The bathrooms on our floor weren’t cleaned and they had run out of toilet paper a lot. The boys bathrooms had many out of service toilets and broken locks. Therefore the main thing the hostel was lacking was the level of hygiene you would expect and regular servicing of facilities. We were also disappointed the hostel falsely advertised a laundry facility on their website. They are renovating and therefore no longer have the laundry at this time. Thankfully the staff were helpful and pointed us to a laundromat. It wasn’t a bad place for the price but hygiene/bathrooms isn’t something that should be skipped. This place is for people who want to party, get drunk and stay up till very late and then sleep all day. Not good for people who want to explore the city and travelling.

It’s a cool vibe. It’s a huge hostel with 700 beds so it will be crowded. Good and bad. Good: lots of people and opportunities to catch up with others. Bad: a lot going on and fast paced so if it’s your vibe then all good. It’s Berlin after all so fast paced is kind of the big city vibe although Berlin is super chill with interesting vibes. Definitely go here if you travel. Best and most unique city in Germany

We only stayed for one night but really enjoyed our stay. We were on the 7th floor and the room was more like a hotel room than a hostel which was lovely. The staff at check in were friendly! On the website and emails sent beforehand it specifically states to bring down bedding when checking out - I did this and the receptionist was very short with me and seemed annoyed that I had done so. Unnecessarily so. The metro station is around a 7/8 minute walk away but definitely a good location for the price and the metro is very easy to navigate

The best hostel I’ve ever been. The rooms are really good, service also, and the Staffs are really friendly. Amazing experience

Good service and clean rooms, and the staff is friendly. The reception lobby is very nice, you can eat there food that you buy or bring. At night the lobby is also a bar. Mind that if you want to use several services you'll have to pay extra, for example for hand-soap, towels and laundry. It's also happened to us that the cards stop working, but at the lobby you'll be easily helped

It was close to a lot of restaurants etc. The staff was awesome. Especially my dude Aziz.the people, the pub crawls they have every night. I enjoyed myself and met a lot of good people during my 12 day stay

They have been sold to Generator. Outnof nowhere our reservation got cancelled just two weeks before. This a high season period so needless it is to say that we went through hell to find another place. They did not have the courtesy to provide an alternative for the same price or less. They still allow reservations to go through, they should instead block and advertise it on the website.

The hostel is fine, but things can be better. Breakfast is really basic and the coffee is disgusting. Rooms are okay but it would be better to have actual doors for the bathroom and toilet instead of Matt glass. The location is amazing. 5 minutes walk and you are on Alexanderplatz. * A note for the girls: sitting in front of the hostel in the evening alone is hard. Guys will come to you constantly and try to get something from you.

Not worth the price. Stayed here for two days. The room is small and hot and I stayed in October so it's cool outside. And they do not clean the bathrooms. I was in the room when they came and the cleaning people literally just took the trash out that was it. Breakfast is decent and in a good location.

I likes this hostel! Pretty clean and everything you needs for your stays! It’s close to everything! Very good place to meet awesome people! Well if you’re lucky enough with a good roommate or not. Only problem I have is the laundry/dryer. Once you open the door on the dryer the timer will reset you need to pay again! Also it’s weak it won’t dry your clothes at all!

We had a great time at this hostel. The rooms are very clean and the prices are fair. Ignacio was very helpful and made us feel very welcome. We had a great time hanging out and chatting with him, he gave us some great tips on what to do in Berlin! He was charming and very easy to talk to, yet still professional. I couldn't have asked for a better (or more handsome) receptionist ;)

Had a great experience during my stay here. Great location, easy access to public transportation and amenities, and nearby to the route of Berlin marathon event. Plus, great hospitality from the night staff (shout out to Ignacio 🫡) for his assistance during my stay in Generator. Definitely well recommended place to stay! 👍🏻 Cheers, Afiq

Very pleasantly surprised for how cheap it was. Clean rooms and comfortable beds. Location wise it's also good. I had a last minute booking on the spot because I couldn't find anything else, and Sandra from the reception helped me out big time and offered plenty of options. All in all great stay and for cheap if you dont mind sleeping in a room with multiple people!

Great place for a short stay in Berlin. Clean and well-located for a fair price. Great and helpful staff. I was very well welcomed by Sandra in the Generator Alexanderplatz. She made sure that everything that I requested was done and she told me all the necessary information. She's just a great person in the right position!

Suited in the most central part of the city Berlin but with a very unprofessional and to some extent criminal minded staffs. I reserved a place for my brother for four nights at this place and had to pay with my credit card which was with me whiles i wasn't present there so I was sent a link to pay for double of the price for the room reservation online with assurance that half of the money will be refund to me after check-out, Its been nearly one month and still there is no signs of refund neither am I able to reach them on phone or through email to tell me what the heck is going on. I read through the previous reviews and realized that this same thing has been happening to other guests as well. I am not letting that money slid and I will never recommend this Hostel to anybody. They are not professionals., very poor customer Service.

The closest laundry is 10 minutes away, but I also got a free shot at the bar so I'm happy! Jonathan at the bar was great! They make you pay like €6 per hour for baggage storage though
