The Engel Becken is a picturesque historic pond in Berlin that plays a special role in the city's history. Originally created as part of the Luisenstadt Canal, the basin was transformed into an independent body of water in the late 19th century. The Angel Pool is located in the Kreuzberg district, near the Kottbusser Tor. The name "Angel Pool" comes from a statue of an angel on a pedestal that once stood on the south side of the pond, but is no longer there. Over time, the Angel Pool became a popular meeting place for residents and visitors. The surrounding green areas and benches invite you to linger and relax, while the calm water creates a relaxed atmosphere. The Angel Pool has had an eventful history. It was badly damaged during the Second World War but was restored in the following years. In the 1950s and 1960s, the pond was a popular spot for winter ice skating. Today the Engel Becken is a popular place for walks, bike rides and picnics. The surroundings have been carefully designed to create a comfortable environment for visitors. The pool also serves as a backdrop for various events and festivals in Berlin. The Engel Becken is not only an important place in Berlin's history, but also a place of relaxation and enjoyment that attracts people from the surrounding area and tourists alike. It remains a charming jewel in the middle of the lively city of Berlin.

Actually a cool place between Kreuzberg, the old SO 36 and the actual Mitte district, right in the middle of the city.

a very nice place in the middle of Berlin, picturesquely located in the historic Luisenstadt. Directly adjacent is the former Luisenstädter Canal with a rose garden.

A lovely neighborhood pond and jogging path, replete with a cafe on the water, this is a local gathering spot and a quiet place to rest, meet up with friends, or to sit with a drink, read a book and watch the sunset. Situated on the northern edge of Kreuzberg, the neighborhood is artistically vibrant, and an assortment of other cafes and bars are footsteps away.

A small water body surrounded by a park of the same name and a small yet beautiful cafe on its bank. Water birds can always be seen. It is a good walking area. A small fountain in its park is very beautiful. After snake fall the whole area looks very beautiful.

Truly lovely. One of my new favourite places to sit whilst the sun is shining. The flowers are so beautiful, the swans and the lake itself are so pleasant to look at. A great spot.

The illuminated statue of at Gabriel is quite impressive at night walk down the old canal bed from oranienne str to Engel beck which is a small reservoir. There's a few turtles that live in there along with local ducks and swans

Nice walking area especially in the sunny summer time but a lot of homeless and drunks people there. I think it’s not safe at night.

Beautiful park and pond. Imagine it looked amazing pre-WW2 with the houses surrounding. Someone has released terrapins into the lake and they make a meal out of the big fish! Imagine the other birds are wary of getting their claws bitten off.

Small lake in the middle of the city surrounded by parks. Lots of diverse animal living here; all sorts of birds, turtles, little crabs, mussels and a great variety of fish.

This was a stop on the path of the Berlin Wall. In itself it wasn't much for a visitor, but for the locals ice-skating on the frozen surface, this was probably perfect.

I was in the cafĂŠ with my women. We wanted to sit together as a small group and enjoy the weather. We were already sitting at the table and everyone had their own seat. Then the employee came and said that we weren't allowed to sit together and should separate. We didn't think that was the case at all OK, we discussed it a bit and then we had to leave, the women were extreme Sad and felt treated unfairly, they thought it was because they wore a headscarf

😐 The water is mossy and the forest floor is covered with glass shards and cigarette butts. This was once a pretty lake and soon turning into a over used and poorly maintained piece of land.
