Yes, the waiting is terrible. No doubt. It's unclear want to do when you first enter the e.r... but after your done with the first step of the waiting room (6 hours, never less in my experience)... The inside of the e.r is totally different. The doctors are wonderful! The nurses are wonderful, even the c.t operator is wonderful. I had such a bad day, regarding my health but such a great experience with the determination of the doctors to make me feel like my health is their #1 mission. Super grateful.

It's the worst hospital. It makes you feel worse. I brought my friend here and she was doing terrible. Since we waited about 5 to 6, she worsened. The doctor still didn't see her yet and the other doctors said let's go drink the first round. The personnel at the Anmeldung was rude and disrespectful and I told her that my friend can't even stand and she interrupted me to tell a joke to her colleague. This is all unacceptable. You come here to get some help(which is your right) and the staff is making everything worse. Please stay away go to a normal hospital.

Worst and most humiliating experience of my life!!!!! I was having an E Scooter accident which left my left leg completely crushed. Arrived to the emergency room with the ambulance and got the worst treatment ever - the stuff is extremely disrespectful and even makes fun of your miserable situation. They asked me if I had a drink because I was screaming in pain and crying (they didn’t even gave some pain killers or tranquilizers after asking several times) since my leg was completely twisted, I said I had a beer and they even said that it’s all my fault since Asian woman shouldn’t drink. I was dirty from falling on the floor and asked several times for tissues to clean up but only got something after one hour laying there. They took all my self respect.. seriously just dehumanizing!

I add one star because you need to for a review, worst place ever! (As a tourist or another person) My cousin was on extremely pain i bring her around 2:30 pm , to EMERGENCY. They treated her after 7 hours, the "nurses" were very rude, yelled at her and told her that she had to endure the pain, until 1 am they gave her paracetamol (only 1 doctor for 70 people) terrible service, and at the WORSE hospital , nobody attends to you, they give themselves the LUXURY of yelling at you, I could say that the stay at the Charité was humiliating.

Really great experience, as far as being injured goes. I fractured a finger and was checked in, seen, xrayed, and given a splint all within 2 hours. My german is basically nonexistant and everyone spoke/understood english. All free, all taken care of.

Even a 1 star is too much. Incompetent and rude staff. Their only goal is to make you feel guilty that you are asking for a medical help.

extremely horrible place and racism. I company with my friend for emergency because she gets strong stomachache and lost sense for few hour.(we break the door We get stopped in front of the hospital by two person swearing blue dress. One person called himself as “medication assistance “ (thin ginger hair,we do not sure he is a doctor or not) stops us. He strongly insists she should go back home because she does not break the arm or legs. He said she did not take enough pain killer and that is the reason with a super rude attitude. We escape and go inside the waiting room. When we are in the waiting room, the same person slaps a door so loud in front of a muslin lady. We got scared and run out of this place. Now we are in the new hospital, and doctor does the body check. It may be appendicitis, and doctor said it is right for us to send her for emergency.

I know that no one there cares about the reviews or the patients. Someone told me a while ago “Never go to Charité unless you wanna die”. I was like… wow, he can be a real drama queen! But last night I went there. Big mistake, huge. After more than 5 hours of not being treated and not getting any answers about how long will it take to see a doctor, I left. I went to another hospital. Within an hour and a half, I already had the results of my blood tests, and after another 20 minutes had a CT with immediate diagnosis by a neurologist and radiologist. Half an hour later had a lumbar puncture, and I was treated! The staff cared! They showed interest. They explained. The board of this campus should be ashamed.

Nice modern building. We had to wait a lot. It took them ~5h to help us!!! The quality of the treatment was nice. If you go there prepare food and water because you will wait a lot and the food machine was not working at the time. The application is not so clear. They will try to speak in english, but sometimes they used google translate.

I'm a bit surprised about the reviews here. I had to visit this emergency room twice in a row, and have received a professional, friendly and caring service. Both the triage staff and the doctors on duty were great. They were visibly concerned about the pain I was in, treated me with care and examined me thoroughly. I tried to speak German a bit, but almost all of them had pretty good English (I imagine I might have gotten lucky with this during both of my visits). The waiting time was a bit long but definitely not unreasonable considering how busy they are. Hopefully, I never end up there again, but I am beyond grateful for the help I got and wouldn't hesitate to go there if I needed to.

Worst hospital in this town. All the workers at emergency (I don't know if they are doctors or nurses, all wear blue vest) are impolite, unfriendly, lack of empathy and patience. I cried in pain because of hernia in my back low, and, as usual in Germany, they gave me ibuprofen and said "don't cry, it will be ok". Some weeks later I had a surgery done in another hospital. Happened the same with some friends. I guess they think we are faking or it doesn't hurt that much. I don't even know why people like this work with emergency patients. They don't have soft skills for it.

It wasn’t bad at all, despite all the reviews! The personell is attentive and nice. The ENT doctor spent a lot of time to examine me thoroughly, was very professional and kind. The only flaw is a waiting time - it took more than two hours to get examined.

I went to the hospital struggling to breathe, waited a painful 9 hours without getting any attention. Fed up with the cold in the waiting room and lack of care, I left, worried I'd be waiting forever. I decided to book a doctor's appointment and focused on just trying to breathe and use home remedies in the following days. I happened to have an asthma attack and all I needed was an emergency inhaler. This whole situation was completely new to me, and I was shocked at how little they seemed to care. I left feeling like if I ever had an even more serious health issue, they wouldn't take care of me. The ER didn't even seem too busy, which made the long wait even more frustrating. It's pretty scary and disappointing that this happened at the main hospital in the capital city. I hope this isn't how things usually go.

I am truly disappointed with this place. For such a renowned and important institution, it's surprising to see the lack of care for individuals in distressing situations. I found myself waiting there for an exhausting 7 hours. Initially, I presumed the extensive delay was because of a long list of patients queued before me. Yet, after such an extended period of waiting, I approached the staff, wondering if they might have called my name and I missed it, or if they had inadvertently overlooked me. Their response was that the gynecologist hadn't arrived. So it wasn't about the number of patients awaiting; it was merely the fact that the doctor wasn't there. Worse still, they offered no clarity or updates about the doctor's expected arrival. It's hard to imagine someone in dire need, perhaps with an infection or bleeding, being left unattended due to the gynecologist's unavailability. Waiting for 7 hours without proper communication or assurance is utterly heartbreaking and unacceptable. The emergency department of this globally significant hospital appears to lack staff. While I have great respect for the capabilities of the doctors and nurses there, I've decided I won't be turning to this facility for emergency help in the future. Their management and organizational practices leave much to be desired. Another incident that further deepened my concerns involved a man in the waiting room. He was resting, possibly asleep, when the triage staff approached him. They briefly took his ID and examined him. After a while, they returned his ID and asked him to leave, stating the doctor had assessed him as okay. However, it was evident that he wasn't alright. The man was disoriented and not fully conscious. He struggled to communicate, not only because of language barriers but also because he was clearly unwell and in need of assistance. Given his state, he refused to depart, and eventually, he was escorted out by security. This scenario is deeply concerning. If someone is unwell and at a hospital, they should receive care. Regrettably, this experience has been profoundly disappointing.

The first person talking to you might be rude but, Charité has the best doctors in Germany bar none. I have never had a more caring doctor who took time out of his day to really examine me. This was a Neurologist.

Expect to wait over 4 hours but once you finally get to see a doctor they really do their best. Some staff only speak German but most know English (and the staff who don't are still quite nice). Went to get an X-Ray done yesterday and it was a fairly smooth process. Received great care when I was there last year as well. I'm very grateful for all their help!

I may be lucky, but everything (registration, questions, doctor check, x-ray and doctor diagnosis) took less than an hour. Everyone on was really helpful and spoke English when I said I only barely understand German. Everyone was approaching me with a smile here, which did help mentally.

I really don’t get the other bad reviews (perhaps it was because it was at night) but my experience with my son was very smooth plus the staff were super friendly who all spoke fluent English. The doctor who saw us explained everything in a very detailed manner.

Came here suspecting a broken ankle. The receptionist was very dismissive and rude. She made me feel bad for seeking help. The doctor however was very friendly and nice. I was lucky to have been seen by a doctor within 30 minutes considering the other reviews. The place just isn’t that well organized for an emergency unit.

Doctors are absolutely amazing, the best and very kind! They saw to me within an hour on a Sunday evening. One star off only because the receptionist/Anmeldung people are by far the worst people on earth. I went to emergency two days almost in a row and as soon as they hear you speak English at Anmeldung, they begin to hate on you and not willing to call other staff to translate/help out. Ridiculous for the reputation that this hospital has. On my second visit a few days later, the guy at Anmeldung, (unfortunately didn't catch his name) looked up my address while I was filling out the registration form and turned his PC screen to me, low-key angrily, to show me 3 hospitals near my house on google maps, and asked me why am I here at Charité when there are so many people coming there? I thought I was gonna break down, as I wasn't even home when the emergency happened.

Waiting and waiting. After getting checked in and confirmed stable by nurses. The registration desk says they are getting the doctor, the nurse says they are getting the doctor, 2 hours later he comes in and sees me. We do x-rays on my chest. The incompetent x-ray specialist forgets to input his findings. We are set in the waiting room while we wait. 1 hour later we check in with registration, they say they will check on the doctor. I check in 30 minutes later and I am informed that the doctors are changing shift and it will be 30-45 minutes more. Another hour later (2.5 hours since being sent to waiting room) we check in and they say they will check on the doctor. We have been waiting on 3.5 hours to get discharged. I don’t give a damn at this point. I just want to leave. But I have to check out, but I can’t until the doctor signs off. 4.5 hours since my x-ray I am sitting here…. Waiting.

1 star is the highest rating I can give. With incredible pain in my knee, I wait 5 hours in the waiting room, although the people who came before me have already entered. If you need urgent medical care, don't think that you won't get it here. I highly do not recommend this hospital.

Never again!! There are only 4 people. 1 lady is waiting even longer than me crying because of the pain. It’s been 5 hours already, people smelling piss and feet hangs out inside (with bare feet), I came after my doctor called me in middle of the night to tell my blood test results that I might have a blood cloth in my brain. 5 hours and counting for them to accept me after explaining everything with a huge pain inside my skull. So sad that I have to bare this in a country like Germany and supposedly “best medical school university” in Germany. Don’t come here unless you’re dying.

😠 You can call that almost neglected assistance, which happened last night (around 8:00 p.m.) in the rescue center. 👍👍 The concept of the day clinic was just right for me, as it allowed me to continue my private life largely normal.
