Thank you Greg and Ben for such a wonderful experience! We booked a last minute private tour and Greg was kind enough to accommodate us at an earlier time so that we could catch our airplane on time in the afternoon. We were given a thorough explanation of what to expect and what we would see, which made the underwater experience comfortable, safe, and magical. We ended our trip enjoying beautiful views on top of the boat and with a hot chocolate in hand! We now have pictures and a video to take us back to this amazing moment! It was definitely a perfect way to end our trip to Bermuda.

These guys are incredible. This family has been doing business in Bermuda for multiple generations. The operation is old, but it has character and the owners work really hard. They are incredibly focused on making sure you have an amazing experience. They do not disappoint. The underwater helmet dive was the highlight of our trip. Really like Hartley - great people. My parents took me on this dive when I was a kid. 35 years later I am sharing it with my kids and I am sure they will share it with theirs. Great job Hartleys!

This is such an incredible experience, we highly recommend it if you are in the area. You don’t need to have any diving experience, and it’s so much fun interacting with the fish. Greg and his son do a great job too, and helped us get some great GoPro footage too.

Absolutely amazing! You put on these suits with helmets and you walk along the sea floor, get a tour of the sea creatures, you even get to feed them. I saw very colorful fish and other amazing animals. A must do if you visit Bermuda!

Could not recommend Hartley’s enough! This was my first time visiting Bermuda and Hartley’s is a big part of what really made it memorable. Watching Greg interact with his beloved fish whether it be feeding, taming, or just observing, you can really see the relationship that the family has built with the thriving ecosystem that is not only the reefs they visit but the Bermuda waters as a whole. Not only are you there to do the helmet diving activities, but you’re also treated to little history lessons and fulfilling conversation. Greg, his son, and i got along great and I’m looking forward to staying in contact! My family and i will definitely be back and hope to become regulars as our getaways to the gorgeous entity that is Bermuda become more frequent. Cheers guys!❤️ p.s. Greg has excellent book recommendations😎

This yet another 5 star review! My family went on this incredible excursion in July of 2022. There’s no describing it. You just can’t beat it! Fish, corals, shrimp, you name it, just inches from you (or touching you!) and they are happy to be there! Not only that, but the amazing education you receive can’t be beat! One of, if not the number one, travel experiences of my life! If you get the chance, do it!

We went helmet diving with Mr. Hartley and his son yesterday, and my family had the BEST time! We learned so much about the marine life (and life in general) on the Bermuda Islands! Mr. Hartley was amazing with my daughter who has anxiety, my 76 year old father in law, my little shy 6 year old, and me (who has a hard time with things around my face/head). He impressed my very enthusiastic teenager as well! ...See what I did there, Mr. Hartley - enthusiastic, not excited ;)...We were holding fish, eels, coral, and feeding different fish all while LEARNING about them. It was fascinating! I recommend every one try this out!! It was just fantastic!!

Everyone in our group of 6 adults (myself, my husband & our children) really enjoyed this excursion. It was fun to get up close & personal with the fish - Leroy is VERY friendly. Greg knows so much about the reef and all of the fish, and his son, Ben is also very knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend this trip to anyone who wants to learn more & see more of the fish in Bermuda.

Most Fun You Will Ever Have! If you go to Bermuda and you DO NOT do this...you will truly not have experienced the coolest thing you can do there. Greg and Andrew are so nice and made the experience truly enjoyable. We will certainly do this again and again! I purchase a GoPro camera to film the underwater fun and Greg was prepared! He had a special extension arm and help to film many of the activities up close. I have shared the videos with my friends and they are all jealous! Thanks Greg for making our trip!!

We had so much fun on our helmet five experience, being able to explore underwater without knowing how to scuba dive was a real treat. Greg was very kind in helping us get some awesome footage on our GoPro. We visited in December but they were well prepared to keep us warm in the water.

We did this on our honeymoon (many years ago). Excellent experience, and we loved it so much that for our tenth anniversary we brought back our kids, our parents and some friends and we did it again. Just as good as we remembered. Maybe we should start planning it again for our 20th anniversary ;) One of our group doesn't swim, an he still had no issues at all. our daughter was 8, and it was one of her top memories from an amazing trip. This is family friendly, and comes with our highest recommendation. The 2 year old of course didn't dive, but he loved just being on the boat, climbing around and looking over at the reef. There is a small glass bottom in the boat, but it doesn't compare to the real experience. This beats snorkeling and glass bottom cruises hands down. The fish are all known and named, and perform wonderfully as ambassadors from their world to ours. On our recent trip it rained, but that didn't matter at all. The water is the same temperature, and you are already wet. Don't chicken out, experience the truly best that Bermuda has to offer in Hartley's Helmet Diving (only spot in the world you can do this, too).

What a unique experience! Greg was really patient with our group and very informative. We had a beautiful boat ride to and from the reef. When diving he took us to 3 separate reefs where we were able to touch the fish, coral and even hold a sea cucumber! It was an unforgettable experience.

This was the most amazing opportunities we have had with underwater fish. In addition to the phenomenal experience itself, Greg spends the time to give you a real education of the life under the sea in Bermuda! If you have an opportunity to do this, DO IT, the conversation, in addition to the experience makes it second to none!

Very unique experience! 98% awesome & 2% frightening that goes away VERY quickly once you’re underwater. If you could only pick 1 thing to do in Bermuda it would be this.

This was an awesome part of our trip to Bermuda. It was a really neat experience. This is a family business, they’ll explain that to you on the way out. The picture I posted is from the top of the cruise ship, you can zoom in and see the boat in the water, that’s where you’ll be anchored. Greg (the owner/your guide) has a really good sense of humor. He will explain everything you need to know in detail. If you are concerned about the helmet or the ability to breath under water, don’t be! It couldn’t be any easier. You get down there with the helmet on and just breath, it’s really easy. There is so many different kinds of fish down there. Greg has developed a relationship with them and they are very friendly. As soon as we got down there, the fish swam right up to us, if you’ve ever been snorkeling elsewhere, you know that the fish typically won’t be anywhere near you. Not here, total opposite. He will have the fish sit in your hand and everything. Book this, you won’t be disappointed. They pick you up right at the dock. If you are there on a cruise, the pickup is a 3 minute walk. It was just my wife and I on this trip but we are looking forward to returning with the kids in the near future and doing this again.

Bit of a late review but I had the best time! This wasn't my first helmet dive but it was so much cooler being out in a reef vs an enclosed tank/area. Plus no where else have I gotten to hold a fish and eel! Only things I would recommend are booking with them directly and wearing water shoes for better comfort walking along the bottom. Plus it might give you a better grip as your body is naturally rocked back and forth a little bit. I wish this family many more dives to come!

Do NOT miss this once in a lifetime opportunity!! This is an amazing experience and the highlight of our trip. If you are scared or on the fence just book it, you'll thank me (and yourself) later. My wife and I experienced this trip back in 2009 during our Honeymoon on a trip to Bermuda. We have talked about the experience ever since. Now returning to Bermuda, we were able to bring our two boys 11 and 8 to see the beauty of Bermuda and share in this experience. Our boys who are very adventurous, were a little scared when we first discussed the possibility of booking this trip. After watching some videos online from Hartley's website they felt more confident. I will note it is recommended to read all of the information and FAQs on Hartley's website. Mr. Hartley recommends booking directly from his site AND we you do so photos are included in the booking. It seemed that there were others on our tour who booked from different means then directly on his site ( I am not sure how) and those folks had to pay extra if they wanted photos. Now for the trip details. You are asked to meet at the boat 25 minutes early. Docking location is in the Dock yard moon gate right next to the cruise ship docking area so very easy to walk. Once on board, the boat has a head (bathroom), changing compartment, and bench seat with extra chairs to accommodate more guests. The lower level is covered with windows. There is a second level you can climb up via ladder that has some partial shade and seating area along with area to stretch out and sunbathe if you wish. Mr. Hartley has everyone complete a short medical form and answer some questions. He then explains the entire process of what to expect during the dive along with safety information and then goes over a backstory to build up the adventure. All gear needed for the dive is provided by the tour. You need to bring nothing other than essentials like towl, sunscreen, water, etc. Water shoes are NOT recommended (read as not allowed) as they scuff the sand, disturbing the bottom. Socks are recommended for folks who feel the need to have something on their feet BUT it is part of the sensory experience to go barefoot to feel the bottom and honestly it is soft. Everyone is given soft foam knee pads to where to protect their knees when kneeling on the bottom of the sea floor which is done through our the adventure. I do not remember this being done in 2009 on my first trip, but it could have been such a minor detail that I do not remember. Wet suits are provided to wear for all sizes in the event of colder water which we did not need on this trip. After a short 20 minute or so boat ride to the reef, Mr. Hartley and his son Ben have this down to a process getting everything setup very quickly to dive. The dive is broken into groups with up to three dives. Once it's your turn, all you have to do is walk down the ladder that is extended to the bottom of the sea floor. Greg and Ben take care of the rest. My younger son said he was only nervous for the first 2 seconds and then realized how easy it was to do and loved the whole experience. Once under the sea, each group is given about a 30 minute dive which includes photos with celebrity fish and your group, undersea walk and exploration. Mr. Hartley uses sticks pre labeled with names to point out key aspects of the trip. He takes care with each person to ensure you have a wonderful experience with relationships he has fostered with the undersea world. As I mentioned he will take pictures but he also allowed my to take my underwater camera and I was able to get additional photos and videos of the experience. Mr. Hartley even took my camera on two occasions to film videos of two special encounters with sea life. This was an added bonus for sure. Once your dive is over board back on the boat and you'll have time to relax between the other dives. I do recommend bringing water and a few snacks especially in between as nothing is offered on board. From my first trip, I can tell Mr. Hartley provides his heart in this adventure and has become refined

What an unbelievable up-close look into the Creator's world before it was broken! We saw a vast variety of colors, shapes, sizes and behaviors of undersea life we never imagined. Thank You so much, Greg and Ben for your reassuring expertise, sharing of knowledge, and help getting two total (senior!) novices into wet suits. This was an underwater glimpse of paradise followed by a cup of hot chocolate on board before our return trip to the beautiful archipelago of Bermuda!

Amazing experience!! I will admit I was very nervous, but I am so glad I took the plunge...literally!! We saw so much sea life, up very close too. I was worried about being claustrophobic, but I had absolutely no problem at all. Honestly, there's so much activity going on. You forget you're even down there with the helmet on. I highly recommend this adventure.

Incredible underwater adventure with Hartley’s Helmet Diving! They promised an amazing experience traipsing across the sea floor, and they absolutely delivered. Walking on the ocean bottom was surreal and unforgettable. The helmet diving technology made it easy to explore the underwater world, even for non-divers. Saw colorful fish and marine life up close. Knowledgeable staff ensured safety while maximizing fun. A must-try activity for anyone seeking a unique and fantastic sea floor experience!

First let me say you should book this tour directly on their website you’ll be dealing directly with the owners which in my opinion and experience is always much better to do. This was such an amazing experience and people who want to do something out of the box and not the same old same old should try this. I booked this for myself along with my 2 granddaughters and Son who absolutely loved it! Not only was it fun but it was very informative to learn about the underwater reef ecosystems and how the different sea life exists there. The Hartleys Greg and his son Ben are so congenial and so nice. Not only do you get to dive but you get Free Pictures and Videos downloaded to your phone of the excursion. And lets not forget the beautiful ride on the boat. Definitely worth the price i intend on doing this everytime i come to Bermuda. It was well worth every dollar that I spent. Definitely one tour that should not be missed. Linda

Greg Hartley and his son Ben provided an excellent underwater experience for our group of four on Sept 25th. So glad that I booked this excursion directly through their website. Greg even returned my call after leaving a message with questions prior to booking. I look forward to booking this excursion again in the near future. Greg and Ben were so personable and engaging providing an educational experience about the reef. Getting to see the reef up close with the fish all around us was amazing.

Thank you Greg and Ben for the wonderful experience. I recommend booking directly on their website like we did. The check in process was a breeze, we walked right up to the boat and boarded quickly and easily. Greg walks with you through every step of the diving process and even the most nervous divers felt comfortable. It is truly a once in a lifetime experience and the fish you get to meet in the reef are adorable and treated with the utmost respect and care. You can really tell that Greg loves what he does and if you are considering this excursion then I say take the leap of faith- you will not regret it.

Great captain. Captain Greg is a bit eccentric but fun to lead us. He really gave us more info about the sea life than we expected and it was much appreciated. Holding a hogfish nearly 3 feet long underwater was exciting. We stayed underwater for over 30 minutes, great time. Captain Greg even used personal our go pro on a stick to film a mole shrimp he coaxed out of it's hole just for us. We want to do it again.

We had an amazing time with Greg as our guide and Ben as our boat captain! The boat ride to the reef and back was very enjoyable, especially sitting on the top deck! Greg is very knowledgeable about the coral and fish and is very experienced. He’s designed various gadgets two help you identify what he showing you underground and to keep you safe. I recommend everyone who goes to Bermuda add this excursion to their trip!

It was our first ever trip to Bermuda. I am terrified of going under the water since I wear glasses. But Greg was the epitome of the perfect, fearless, helpful, understanding "instructor" as he guided us down the ladder to 10 feet of gorgeous underwater beauty, with reefs and fish swimming in front of our face which was protected by the big, square helmet and I had my glasses on, underwater! After the dive, when we watched the video that Greg took of us in the water, it was well worth it! Whoever has any qualms about doing the helmet dive, not to worry, Greg's a great underwater guide! You'll be glad you did it! Thanks, Greg. More power to you and Ben!

Bermuda was beautiful the people unbelievably polite, friendly and helpful. But nothing can beat Hartly's Helmet Diving it was incredible. Greg is so informative you can tell he absolutely loves what he does and loves sharing his knowledge with others. Hartly's helmet diving with Greg is a must do, I would go back to Bermuda just to helmet dive with Greg and his crew. If this 66 yr old can do it anyone can.

Take your own underwater camera!! I did but they talk me out of using it, saying that there pictures are better. I went along and paid 50 dollars. Got a flash drive. My wife and I went on a dive with them last week. It was amazing! It was the best excursion we have done in our many times visiting Bermuda! This is a multigenerational family run business. Greg Hartley and his son Ben, were amazing hosts! Greg was our guide under water and he took great pictures and a video of our dive, given to us in a usb drive, all included in the price. We love snorkeling in Bermuda, but this was way better! The fish come right up to you, you are able to pet, hold/handle and feed them. Greg definitely had a connection with the fish while we were on our dive. He taught us about the sea life underwater on our dive as well as on the boat ride to and from the dive site. We were very comfortable throughout the whole experience. I would definitely recommend doing this with the family. Booking through their website before the trip was a breeze, we were able to jump on the boat and enjoy the experience. Thank you to the Hartley family for sharing this precious experience with us!

Thank you Greg and Ben for an amazing day! We booked a private charter and it was 100% worth the money. We got to see and interact with all different kinds of marine life. Definitely recommend to anyone visiting Bermuda. Can't wait to do it again!

I can't recommend this experience enough! My husband and I recently took a private charter, which was THE highlight of our visit to Bermuda. If we had been earlier in our stay, we would have most definitely booked a second dive. Greg & Ben are excellent hosts all-around when answering questions, explaining the process, and ensuring you have a great time—chatting with them on the boat on the way out and back was fun as well! They're not exaggerating when they say the dive is easy, and it is such a unique and fun activity to do while you're on the island. It was amazing to move around underwater with fish surrounding you and Greg guiding you through what you're seeing and documenting the dive with photo/video. We'll most definitely be back and highly recommend that anyone visiting Bermuda book a Hartley Helmet Dive excursion.

Excellent experience with Mr Hartley and his son Ben today. Very informative from start to finish, and felt totally safe and secure in their hands. My wife is not a strong swimmer and this was our first time doing anything like this, but we came with a positive mind set and that's all you need! Lots of nice extra touches too - hot chocolate, warm water down your wetsuit, ample fish time (and stories), pretty much instant personalised images...the list goes on. Couldn't recommend this enough!

I loved it!!! I was terrified on the ladder, but once I got underwater, my fear melted away. It was meditative. The variety and color of the life on the reef was amazing. Greg was very informative and pretty cool. All I can say is that nature shows DO NOT do healthy coral reefs justice.

A must-do experience on any trip to Bermuda (the best no doubt). Please do book directly with them as that is the best way to go about it (includes the pics, videos, etc) and cut out the middleman. Mr. Hartley was both very insightful and knowledgable and we were honored to meet him and gained from it. A pleasure to also meet and talk to his son. The area we saw and all the underwater animals were splendid. Easy for our 9 year old as well.

Me and husband came to Bermuda for our honeymoon. The island was beautiful and the people so sweet and nice. We love the ocean wanted to do something underwater. We found this business and I knew I needed to do this during our trip. Greg and Ben were so so sweet and understanding. We were running very late due to taxi issues and they were willing to wait for us. We got told how things would go in detail, making us feel secure and safe. The ocean was beautiful and getting to see everything and hold/pet the fishes and an eel was unreal. This was an unforgettable experience that me and my husband will cherish. Thank you Greg and Ben!

Took my whole family out Helmet diving with Greg Hartley and it was AWESOME! It was definitely one of the coolest things I've ever done. I've been snorkeling a bunch of times and it was about 1000 times better than snorkeling!!! It was completely easy and safe, and loads of large tropical fish were right there with us. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Hands down one of the greatest things to do in Bermuda. My dad chartered the boat for our family on 8/2/23. This was his third time doing this and everyone else's first time......and we all had a blast. The father and son that run this are awesome! Super informative and wonderful senses of humor. I felt safe the entire time and was amazed at how much the fish want to be held. Great alternative to scuba diving as you don't feel constricted or claustrophobic in any way. If I ever go back to Bermuda.....I would do this again.

My first helmet dive with Greg Hartley, his father Bronson and brother Chris, was 40 years ago when at the time the boat was moored at Flats. I then had the pleasure of diving with Greg again, this time with his son - 3 generations of helmet divers, and still going as strong as ever. Bravo! Thank you Greg for giving us such a wonderful day. Suzanne and Roy

Hands down the coolest possible thing you can do in Bermuda. I’ve been 3 times now and every time it feels like a brand new experience. Greg is the perfect tour guide and his knowledge and sense of humor, along with his son Ben’s outstanding help, make every trip memorable. If you want to make a lifelong memory on what feels like another planet, I could not recommend this dive more. Can’t wait for next time!

Yes Greg, even though you said the first time is the best I feel so would the 2,3 and 4th or more as you treated everyone like they were family (BTW you said you would take my son so i'm going to hold you to it!). Just so everyone else knows, while doing the tour I used my gopro (sorry I tried to load some video's but it wouldn't upload) and twice Greg took it from me to get an awesome closeup of a grab? taking a shrimp? from Greg, so thank you for going the extra step (literally) and making our experience with your tour worth taking over and over!!!

Perfect way to spend time learning about the marine ecosystem around Bermuda, and immersing yourself in that environment in a safe and enjoyable way. Greg and Ben run a great operation, you will not be disappointed!
