Thia museum was enormous and I am pretty sure a week in this place still wouldn't be enough time. I wish I would have had more time to appreciate each piece but what I did see was amazing in every single way. The museum is beautiful, spacious, and clean. They have attendants in every room to help you find your way. I would absolutely recommend a visit here and be prepared to spend the way and wear comfortable footwear. They have 4 levels and multiple buildings and wings. I typically don't use elevators unless its a high rise but I did today. There are multiple entrances and exits as well.

Forever captivated by the beauty and history encapsulated in the Art Institute. Not a place to visit too often as the gallery is largely full of permanent installations, but there is always some sort of special exhibition/gallery taking place when they are open. Entire building is extremely clean with staff and maps scattered around in order to make your experience more enjoyable. Many famous works that one recognizes from pop culture or past studies are able to be seen here. One of the top art museums in the world and an undeniable staple in Chicago’s history. Do not miss out on viewing everything it has to offer.

It is so famous that I had expected the exhibit to be as informative and comprehensive as the British Museum or the Metropolitan. That might be too challenging. The display in each section is lack of clear plot/storyline, by which I mean the items are like various bread slices in a basket, correlated but not unable to compose a full piece. I understand this is an art museum, so the explanation notes mainly focus on art perspective. Still, for visitors who might come from different backgrounds, the museum could have done a better job of interpretation.

This is a staple of Chicago and one of the most interesting places to visit. You can spend 4-5 hours here just going through all of the exhibits. You will find some of the more famous paintings here. General admission is $32 for an adult. Don’t forget you can also come here when they’re having free days. It’s located on Michigan Ave so you can’t miss it.

Beautiful building filled with beautiful paintings. I especially enjoyed the Monet collection. I thought I would be taken by the lilies, but wheat piles just took me to another dimension, and i was sober, alright ;). I also liked Van Gogh and other impressionists. The collection of eastern ceramics and wall paintings was also impressive. We stopped by only for few hours, so we didn't see everything, but i definitely plan to come back ;).

Acclaimed art museum and a must-do for tourists and locals alike. Came here with a friend on Friday after lunch and bought tickets at the box office insider. The coat room is currently closed due to covid. You are allowed to carry backpacks and have water bottles; I love that there are water bottle refilling stations by the bathrooms so you can stay hydrated. The cafe was closed when we went (Aug 2021). Entrance is $25 and there are discounts for Chicago residents/students/members. Credit cards are accepted. The place is huge and I would suggest allowing at least two to three hours to explore all three levels. We were lucky to have caught the presidential portraits before they were gone. There are a number of famous pieces housed in the museum. There are both stairs and elevators for you to go around. Art aficionado or not, you’ll have a fun time.

If you love art, this is a must-see place. If you don't love art, you can still enjoy this place. The place is beautiful and extremely well maintained. The display rooms are spacious and I never felt like it was over crowded. They have a few famous pieces you've probably see online or in a book somewhere. Walking through and checking out everything shouldn't take more than about 3 or 4 hours. Oh - and military veterans get in free!

Free days are the best days to come to visit museums in Chicago but I would actually pay to see this one. It is absolutely beautiful inside. The way the art is displayed is magnificent. Plan on spending your entire day here as there is so much to see and do. Are also gardens in the spring and summer that are open so we will have to come back to see those. A must-see is the statues and the Roman Greek area. The Chagill glass windows were breathtaking.

Beautiful museum with an expansive collection of paintings and sculptures. You can easily spend hours here roaming the beautiful hallways and staircases. It’s free on certain days for Chicago residents so it made the experience even better. I’d recommend to check this place out when you come to Chicago.

This place is immense and worth every penny of the admission fee. See some highlights like American Gothic or that famous Seurat painting at the park you recognize from studying pointillism back in school. But don’t miss some hidden gems: creepy Goya etchings from 1800s Spain, the picture of Dorian Gray from the 1945 film, and a fascinating collection of miniature rooms that look ready for Stuart Little to move in. They also have a very wide range of Picasso styles collected under one roof and the impressionism section truly is a must-see!

You could spend days here and it still wouldn’t be enough. This museum collection is incredible and there’s something for everyone here. I especially loved the top floor with the modern collection. It’s super extensive and beautiful. Definitely don’t skip the basement level miniature section though, so detailed and inspiring. A top tier museum!

If you are a fan of art you would really enjoy this place! I absolutely loved visiting the museum. I would definitely recommend it. Also, I would recommend wearing a light jacket nothing too big or warm because the inside of the museum is really warm and when you are walking around it can start to feel hot. Wear comfy shoes because you will be walking a lot and going up/down the stairs.

A must see place when visiting Chicago. Has one of the larger Impressionist collections in the USA. Good selection of European art. In the center of town, next to Millennium Park. Lots of public transportation near the museum. Multiple reasonably priced parking garages around. Get there early! Can be very crowded with lots of tourists. Consider buying a membership if you are visiting more than 3 days! Members get early entry. Highly recommend this place! Great for family with kids!

This is truly a fantastic art museum. They have a huge number of paintings from the impressionist period. So, while those galleries tend to be the most packed with people, they also have a lot of incredibly famous paintings and a lot of paintings from very well known impressionist artists. Artists. They particularly have a lot of Monet. They also have a good amount of the usual other types of exhibits seen in art museums. They have an interesting collection of furniture from various periods, and they have a lot of statuary and ceramics. I recommend taking the el, because parking downtown Chicago is outrageous. We parked in the underground lot right by the museum, we were there 2 hours and 45 minutes, and paid $31 in parking. The museum is also fairly pricey. Students and seniors pay $26 a person. Regular admission is $34 a person if you are not from Chicago. So this is not a cheap outing. It is, however, a great museum.

We thoroughly enjoy our visits to the Art Institute. The staff is consistently friendly and knowledgeable, embodying the warmth of Chicago. The facilities are impeccably maintained, enhancing the overall experience. For history enthusiasts like us, it would be wonderful to have additional information on certain collections. While the popular exhibits tend to be bustling with activity, the museum remains a delightful setting for leisurely walks with friends or romantic dates. It offers the perfect ambiance to engage in conversation, reminisce, and contemplate. Pair up with your Chicago friend, if you’re from out of town, for those discounted prices.

We maintain a membership at the Chicago Art Institute, and prefer to visit during member hours. With a membership, we find that we visit more often, and can take advantage of new and changing exhibits. We drive up from Indiana to visit. From the South Bend area it's less than a 2-hour drive, and the Art Institute validates parking.

This has to be one of the best art museums in the country. I was in there for three or four hours and I still didn’t have time to see it all. I would certainly recommend this museum to anyone visiting Chicago. I took the train into downtown last weekend but noticed traffic was light so I think maybe during the pandemic driving is more manageable than usual

My partner and I went from Houston, Texas to this museum 2 weeks ago and the experience was incredible. It’s such a beautiful and well maintained place. It took us approximately 5 hours to walk all around this huge building, walking at fast paced, so I would recommend you to go in the morning, start from the bottom floor and work your way up the 4 levels. Don’t forget to use the map to guide yourself through. You’ll find a lot of workers that are willing to help you on anything you need, as you walk around. Here are some pictures of a couple things that stood out to me the most. I hope you all enjoy your visit!

“I could stare at Nighthawks all day long.” The art museum has a very nice collection of pieces. I really liked the museum app - it offered on-demand tours and audio guides of the museum. There were special call outs for certain pieces giving history, facts, and others information. They essentials tour is very good - it gets you around the museum and shows off highlights with an added audio guide. It’s like your own personal tour guide but at your own pace. The miniature rooms in the basement are not to be missed!

The "One Hour Tour" is excellent! We found ourselves very short on time the day we were meant to visit the museum (about an 1hr 15min). Luckily, on the visitor's map there's a "short on time" suggestion page of the museum's highlights. It was perfect. It included a lot of the most well known pieces you can't miss (Rodin, Tiffany window, Picasso) and we still had time to see other rooms. This museum is not to be missed but if you feel like an hour is too short, do it. It's worth the trip and tickets are discounted.

My visit to the Chicago Art Institute was an unforgettable journey through art and history. The museum's layout is brilliantly designed, making it easy to navigate through the diverse exhibits without feeling overwhelmed or restricted. Each section flows seamlessly into the next, offering a sense of freedom and exploration, yet with a thoughtful arrangement that guides you naturally through the art. The curation of the exhibits is exceptional. Each piece is placed with intention, creating a narrative that invites deep reflection and appreciation. The range of artwork, from classical to contemporary, is presented in a way that tells a story, capturing the essence of different eras and styles. In addition to the exhibits, the Art Institute offers a coat check service and includes a delightful cafe on the upper level, where visitors can enjoy coffee and some light snacks while taking a break from the art. I wholeheartedly recommend the Chicago Art Institute to anyone visiting the city. It's not just a museum; it's a journey through art that is both enlightening and inspiring. The thoughtful layout and curated exhibits make it accessible for all, from art aficionados to first-time visitors.

This should definitely be on your list of things to do if you’re visiting Chicago! The building is huge and you could easily spend a whole day here. Great variety of art, something for everyone to appreciate. The Obama Portraits are definitely worth the visit. You may have to wait in line depending on how busy it is. We arrived on a Friday and it was relatively busy but still walkable. If you bring a backpack they require you to carry it in front (like a baby carrier) or at your side. The cafe is currently closed due to covid.

World class art museum, located right downtown Chicago adjacent to Millenium park. Thousands of priceless works for art from throughout human civilization and artistic eras. Guided audio tours as well as docent led tours are available. Cafeteria and gift shop on site. A serene and marvelous place to take in the awe and grandeur of some of humanities greatest artistic accomplishments. This place will fill you with wonder and a sense of peace. A spectacular way to spend a contemplative and energizing day. Check the website for any special exhibits happening during your visit.

An absolutely amazing art museum and a must see of Chicago. I visited on a Monday morning which had significantly less crowds than the weekends. Entry was quick and easy and I saved on tickets by using the Citipass. Keep in mind tickets for non residents are more expensive. The entry way is beautiful and it's very easy to navigate around the museum due to the signage and provided maps. I especially like that there is a list of must sees on the back of the map for those who only have a short amount of time to visit like I did. My favorite areas were probably the Impressionists and Ancient Egyptian pieces. The layout is easy to navigate and separated in distinct periods that makes sense, nothing detracts from the pieces themselves, and it's overall an amazing experience. I can't wait to revisit with plenty of time to thoroughly explore all the exhibits. As for accessibility: there were plenty of wide open spaces and wide open doors for wheelchairs/walkers/etc. to navigate through. There are handicap accessible ramps into the buildings as well as elevators to reach the different floors. There's wheelchair rentals near the coat check as well. https://www.artic.edu/visit/accessibility

The Art Institute of Chicago is a cultural gem. The extensive collection spans diverse eras and cultures, offering a rich artistic experience. Navigating the museum is seamless, thanks to clear signage and well-organized exhibits. The staff is knowledgeable and approachable, adding to the overall welcoming atmosphere. The museum's architecture is impressive, complementing the masterpieces within. While admission can be a bit steep, the cultural enrichment gained from a visit makes it a worthwhile investment for art enthusiasts.

There is so much to see here! We spent about 3 hours at the museum and probably saw half the art. Pricing seemed fair given the quality and quantity of the art. Ticket was good for re-admittance for the whole day. One of my top favorite things to visit in Chicago.

Enormous and very comprehensive Art Institute. It is very well organized and easy to navigate around the entire multiple building structure. Each of the exhibits are divided by not only the arrow but also by the region or country from which some of the art pieces were obtained.

The Art Institute holds very nice collections of various genres of art, and is nestled in Millennium Park right by The Bean sculpture. While not as big as the New York City museums, it holds an impressive collection of art and is worth the visit.

Give yourself a full day or two at this world renowned art museum because there is so much to see. Famous for its Impressionist collection that is large, there are many additional collections of interest. Certain tours are free twice a day so consider dropping in for those also. The Museum also contains one of the country’s top 4 year art schools. See the Chagall stained class, the Chicago Stock Exchange, the Seurat, American Gothic, the Renoirs and many other famous pieces and artists. The Asian Art collection is extensive. The dining is great and the many iconic open spaces are memorable. If you are limited to one day do your homework online to maximize your experience. Today we enjoyed the Camille Claudel Exhibit, which was really intense. The building itself is iconic and beautiful. Also, enjoy the dining areas and courtyards.

My first time attending as an adult, I had a much bigger appreciation for the arts now versus as a kid. It was absolutely breathtaking, and we didn't get to see everything!! Incredible experience! If you can, plan to spend hours exploring this beautiful place. The nice experience starts right as you arrive and check in your coat. They are very organized and efficient. Their food ordering process is very efficient, too. The grilled cheese with goat cheese, fig, and arugula is by far the best grilled cheese I have ever tasted. Their exhibits are very diverse and well presented, and there is something for every art preference.

Wonderful museum located in Chicago. Museum was easy to get to with lots of public transportation options for those visiting. We purchased our tickets online ahead of time which I would recommend as there looked like there was a line to buy tickets there. Great collection with lots of famous and interesting pieces. They do have an on site cafe if you become hungry while there.

For this particular occasion we went for the Pablo Picasso exhibit. We paid $5 as Illinois residents and it is worth mentioning that the museum is free during weekdays. The building itself is admirable, very well taken care of inside and outside. All of the exhibits are being looked after as there are hundreds of art pieces on a daily basis. Whether you’re are someone who is into sculpting, painting, architecture, mosaics, or any other form of art, the Art Institute of Chicago has something to offer. Definitely looking forward for more exhibitions.

Came here in December. Great activity for the cold Chicago winter. This place is huge and you can easily spent hours and hours admiring the art works. There are many different rooms with different genres, paintings, sculptures, decor, etc. Lot of famous art pieces from artists all over the world. We also went to the Pablo Picasso exhibit, saw many of his prints and learned a lot about the artist and his life.

Don't miss the "Monet and Chicago" exhibit currently on display! Timed entry and spacious galleries made viewing very comfortable. Interesting background as to how so many fabulous works of art came into the AIC's permanent collection, and Chicago's connection to this amazing artist. Beautiful layout and progression through the artist's body of work over his lifetime, with video experiences and visual narratives enhancing enjoyment of this installment. Especially enjoyed the series groups of paintings (haystacks, Westminster Bridge, lily pond).

This was an experience I will never forget.. The artists were from so many parts of the world. I can't say enough about this place. But there is not place to eat or drink. The only thing you do is bring a water bottle and it has to be in a zip lock bag. This is a very important detail for people who get thirsty when they do alot of walking.

It's a well maintained intercontinental location where some east coast style meets the midwest charm of various centuries. The museum is an ultimate necessity for anyone who plans to visit any museum in the so called Middle West, especially for those who already have any interest in any art. Everybody will need a whole day to check the Louvre of Illinois out.

I can say without a doubt that this is the best art museum that I've ever been to! Honestly it is amazing and you will see some of the most famous pieces of art in the world here. This place will definitely give you a new appreciation for art and there's something here for everyone. Whether you are an art lover or not, I still think this museum should be on everyone's to see list. I highly doubt I will ever find another museum that will move me as much as this museum had. This is a place that needs more than just an hour or two to fully appreciate and you could spend a whole day here and still not get the full appreciation.

I was impressed at the level of cleanliness here during the pandemic. I disliked the virtual lines for the Monet exhibit. The Art Institute is a clear gem in the awesome world of Chicago museums. There are obviously some world class museums here, but if you want to see something that you may only ever see in places like Paris... then spend a day here. The staff were phenomenal, helpful, and very knowledgeable. Once they found out I was here from out of state with my daughter who is a college art student, and that we only had a few hours before our flight home... they were extremely accommodating as well. We were giddy just having the opportunity to enjoy a place that respects art from all throughout history and generations. 5 stars for an awesome museum in the "4 star" city of Chicago!

Hands down, one of the best art museums in the country. Possibly the largest collections of well-known works outside of Paris or London. The one downside is how truly massive this collection is; you could spend days walking around the museum. It's a beautiful building and full of a wide variety of stunning artwork. A must-visit for the city of Chicago.

We spent about 4.5 hours at the museum and did see everything. We sped through some of the exhibits - this place is huge! You’ll see such a variety of art - from paints to sculptures, to jewelry and dishes - they have so much to look at. The medieval rooms were very unique, and the contemporary art section was intriguing. You’ll see Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, Jackson Pollock - and many more. There are plenty of bathrooms and two campus gift shops. It’s easy to get turned around and miss things - lots of weaving and back tracking. Wear comfy shoes - it’s a lot of walking!

This is a stunning collection of artwork from so many famous painters and sculptors. The price is a bit high ($32/adult), but children 13 and under are free. The building felt like a maze at times and there were alarms constantly going off as people stood too close to artwork. Despite those minor inconveniences, this remains one of my favorite art museums!

Never disappointing! Came here with my kids French classroom for field trip. They were assigned to the modern wing and had to write about a piece in French. So many great artists from Picasso to Matisse and Pollock to some I never heard of. Staff is always friendly and the place is spotless. Best rainy day outing! The kids were intrigued by an artist display in a form of a pile of candies. ( see photos).

Very good museum, almost good at everything! It's just one little thing I'd like to say is that it's too big and the instructions are not very significant ( I understand it's for the better look but I got lost and missed some beautiful moments for 3 times....). I hope they have a better touring guidance or audio guide so that I have some clues of sequels in each exhibition area. Otherwise wow!!! It's like I've never seen so many beautiful stuff performed at once place in a good way, especially the Japanese area, they tried very hard to make the ambience feeling like the Japanese vibe, super impressive. I would say the way of exhibition is better than the Met in New York City.

I greatly enjoyed my visit to the museum! Very broad collection, spanning many time periods, styles, mediums, etc,. The East Asian art section was robust, but I found the amount of Korean art lacking compared to the Chinese and Japanese works. Regardless, I had a great time, and would recommend the Art Institute to anyone in Chicago!

The museum is very well maintained. Food in cafe is costlier. Outside food is not allowed. Did not find much of water fountains, too. Overall treat for art / sculpture lovers

Had a beautiful time visiting this museum on a engagement session with my two clients! They absolutely loved the artwork, the ambiance, and the upper level. We missed out on the gardens but took some outdoor portraits nearby the gardens instead! Turned out just lovely, they were very happy!

Beautiful museum, with vast set of collections and artworks from renowned artists around the world. Would 100% recommend visiting the temporary Monet exhibit.

Amazing!!!! Be prepared to spend hours walking through a masterful show of history represented by art. The social distancing rules made it feel safe in these times. I was there for 2 hours and I did not even get close to seeing everything. My favorite was the modern art gallery on the third floor.

Totally loved the place. How I wish we had more time to explore around but even so, the couple of hours we were there were all worth it. I went with my daughter and her 2nd grade class for a field trip. We all learned a lot in a short amount of time. The place was packed but still VERY clean. I just wish that the planetarium is much more available for everyone. The place also have shows for it's guests to enjoy.

They have such an amazing collection of art here. I'm someone who is a bit of a history buff and to see what our ancestors have painted and the beauty that they have portrayed is astonishing. Next to the DIA this is one of my favorite museums to explore. Absolutely gorgeous.

The Art Institute of Chicago has a wide collection of art works (e.g., Japanese art, contemporary art, American art, Latin American art, European art), and it also offers really good space to just sit down and enjoy the tranquillity (e.g., members lounge and the dining area can have access to the fountain in B1, the outdoor space nearby the contemporary art area). The Impressionism part is definitely a must-see for the first-time visitor! Also, it provides some special exhibitions every now and then, which I find mostly very interesting!

There are so many things to see here that it would take you forever to see everything. There is old European painting and and a whole room with Cat Litter (yes, really) in the modern wing. I personally recomendad the Thorne Miniature Rooms because it appeals to literally anyone. You can get here by taking "L" to the Adams/Wabash station on the Orange, Green, Pink, Purple, and Brown Lines.

The "must-do" in Chicago. Close to the peers, this museum exposes works from all over the world. Amongst all the canvass, impossible to miss "the nighthawks": it appears to the visitor's eyes at the end of a large room in all its majesty. Particularly interesting the collection of american impressionists, showing how deep and wide has been the absorbtion of the european "open air" styil from american artists. the customization of the "open-air painting according to the american taste produced remarcable artworks.

You could defiantly get lost for hours looking at art. They also have a modern wing. I suggest going to Millennium Park and taking the sliver bridge to the museum for a cool experience and view of the city. The store has awesome items to choose from. I legit love this place.

We’re members and we used to love going to the members’ lounge before covid & checking out all the special exhibits before they were open to the public. My favorite exhibits include the miniature rooms located in the basement, the Impressionism pieces and the textiles. My second time going to the Art Institute, loved it just as I remembered. However I did go on a weekend this time and it was crowded & loud…so if you want more of an art museum experience, don’t go on a weekend. The staff were kind and helpful and overall had a wonderful experience again. The drinking fountains were all open (I know since covid a lot of public drinking fountains are closed), and masks required.

One of the best places to spend a Sunday afternoon, or even a Monday morning. You can be strategic in your visit and avoid the gaping crowds on popular pieces. I enjoyed visiting with the old and new works of art on display. Wonderful job as usual, curated by the staff of the Art institute.

Well… I’ve been to this museum about three times and have yet to cover everything. There are ALOT of tourists here everyday that it’s open so you really can’t hang around and really focus if you’re one who likes to actually enjoy and take in all aspects of a piece of art. I will say that a lot of the pieces were so beautiful and a nice reflection of nature and how everything is supposed to “flow”. Many of the pieces were speaking to me and smiling (we were definitely having a private conversation 🙂). Loved it. Hopefully I come back to enjoy the rest.

A premier art museum of the US, probably second only to the Met in my opinion. This is a must stop see in Chicago. This has been my fourth time at the museum and it felt as if I had seen everything through brand new eyes. The diversity of options for aesthetic taste is phenomenal. I loved their collection of American art from 1860-1950.

Typical museum with modern art, great views, cute cafe and gorgeous architecture. Too bad they haven't repatriated sacred Indigenous items back to their communities for the stolen items. Hopefully one day.

can’t believe it took me this long to visit. The exhibits are breathtaking and quick to go through even if you read all the signs (i do). Don’t know if children would find it too fun but definitely worth taking your partner out for a good time not to mention they have a great gift shop with decent prices considering.

Well. It is for sure that they have a great collection and you can see some very famous and important art there. I personally very enjoyed the exhibition of architecture and design, I just think it deserves more space. What really stands out for me is their truly amazing educational center and participatory activities!

  • 5/5 Susanna K. 1 year ago on Google
Truly amazing array of art - you need to spend the day here, or space it out over a couple of days to get the full experience without rushing. I particularly enjoyed the Modern Art and Contemporary Art, as well as the 'Desire Lines' exhibit by South African artist Igshaan Adams. Highly recommended.

Wonderful museum. Of course you should visit. Don’t listen to the art snobs. It couldn’t be anything other than 5 stars. Sure, some art isn’t for everyone and a lot of it is confusing and dumb, it’s a conversation haven. There are many beautiful pieces as well. There are super old sculptures, coins, and war things. There are so many things to see and talk about. It’s clean, well-staffed, and a must see for anyone.

  • 5/5 Alyssa, w. 8 months ago on Google
What else is left to say about this incredible museum, which houses so much of the world's amazing art and history? Even people who aren't art buffs will find something to appreciate here (or at least something familiar!). My only gripe about my visit was the extremely long line for the coat check. The staff were working hard to move it along, but we still incurred about a thirty minute wait at drop-off and then again at pick-up during our March visit. Try to avoid checking anything if you can, so you can get in and enjoy the museum.

  • 5/5 Suryansh V. 8 months ago on Google
The museum is full of different forms and perspectives in art with multiple collections and works. I was fortunate enough to have visited it during a showcase of Van Gogh’s works. It provides a very detailed explanation about the works and it’s history. It’s descriptions of the artworks are also very well explained such that anybody new to art could appreciate it at a higher level.

Wish I had more time here. Came here post-brunch and had a wonderful time but wish I could’ve been a little more with it to read more about the pieces I was looking at. This place is massive and you could absolutely spend at least 2 full days here. Would love to go back next time in Chicago. There’s definitely more to see!!

  • 4/5 Jennifer W. 10 months ago on Google
We are members here. We enjoy the beautiful pieces that the institute has brought to Chicago. It is very clean and very friendly staff. Even if the museum is busy the place is so huge that you wouldn't notice. They do have refillable water fountains. I always bring my own water bottle. The museum will give you a clear bag to carry your water bottle in. You can't drink in the exhibits. This visit we choose to eat in their Market. You order your food and drink at a kiosk. There are 5 of them so it can get crowded. We honestly had a horrible experience with the food, and the delivery of it. The flow of how food is ordered and how you gather it is horrible. So we ordered our food. We ordered a cheeseburger, fries, french onion soup, a chocolate dessert, flatbread pizza, coke zero and a gumball head can of beer it was $86.00. When you finish your order you put your phone number in and they text you when it's ready. After we ordered we had to ask what was next you get your drinks and then sit down. We sat outside it was a beautiful day and they have a pretty fountain. I got a text that our food was ready. The fries were cold, we asked for new ones then the rest of the food was cold. It was annoying. They did give us our food money back and apologized. Around the corner on weekends there's a bunch of food trucks. Next time we will eat from there. This museum is great and a staple in our great city.

Top class art museum. So many works by the greatest artists known to mankind - van Gogh, Monet, etc - the Impressionism section being the most impressive collection, IMHO. Excellent guides share well-known and little-known facts about the artists and their works. Enjoyed this place very much. Worth the fairly high price of admission.

  • 5/5 Naske 7 months ago on Google
It was a very nice Art Gallery with different sections of paintings, sculptures, Asian art, media and photography which was closed during our visit. Van Gogh exhibition was going on. It has a separate ticket $10 to enter.

Definitely one of my favorite art institutes and museums of all time. The collection is massive and a must see if you're in Chicago. It takes a good few hours to look around and soak everything in. Ranging from art pieces from around the world centuries back to modern art and artifacts. Absolutely amazing art museum.

  • 5/5 Kyler B. 4 months ago on Google
A gem in Chicago. Such a beautiful exhibit. Plan your visit as best you can, there is a lot to see so don't feel like you have to see it all. If you have an hour, day, or multiple days you can see what you can see and enjoy it! You can plan by medium, artists, historical time periods, regions, mediums, anything you want! I really fell in love with this place when I walked into the Monet exhibits the first time. I felt the overall power of being in close contact with true masterpieces. I don't think you can describe that until you've been there. Chicago residents have discounted pricing. Parking there can be a bit expensive and while there's a lot of parking underground it does fill up! If you are close to to downtown probably easier to use transit or rideshare.

  • 5/5 Greg S. 4 months ago on Google
This is one of the “must visit” museums to see if you are visiting Chicago. Spend some time and soak in the art. You will not be disappointed. Be prepared to check in your backpacks and familiarize yourself with the layout of the museum. It can be a bit tricky to navigate.

The Art Institute of Chicago is a world-renowned museum that houses an extensive collection of art from various periods and movements. The museum's impressive collection includes iconic works such as American Gothic and Nighthawks, as well as an array of impressionist and post-impressionist works. What truly sets the Art Institute apart is how its thoughtfully curated exhibits showcase art in a way that creates a seamless and engaging visitor experience. Whether you're an art enthusiast or simply looking for something unique, a visit to the Art Institute promises an inspiring and enriching experience that will leave a lasting impression
