Madhugiri is a single hill and the second largest monolith in entire Asia. Moderate grade trek, the trek can be done by experienced trekkers. If you are a beginner, prepare well, since the trail is pretty tricky because of the steep slopes in few sections of the trek. The trek takes you through 3 defence walls or gateways. For every gate you cross, it seems as if what you see ahead is the highest point of the trek but as and how the journey unfolds; the topmost fort is seen only at the end after crossing the third gateway. a very tricky part comes along as you go further, with no rope for any support in a few places and inclination of about 75-80 degrees. If there is a strong wind blowing, it becomes a challenge to traverse this particular section. It will take 3.30 hr complete the trek (Up and Down).max Altitude : 3930ft. early morning trek also entails the view of a splendid sunrise. If you’re planning to catch the sunrise start the trek at 6am early morning. Please carry the water and eatables. Parking: Available Entry Fee: No Timings: 06:00 AM to 05:00 PM

If you are a Travel, Trekking and Climbing enthusiast, than this place must should be in your bucket list. The fort is at top of this hill. The journey from the bottom to top of the hill by walking is really a very different, very risky and very terrifying. And the view at any of the point of journey and the top of the hill or fort is mesmerizing.

Madhugiri Betta / Madhugiri Fort Trekking: Madhugiri Fort lies in Madhugiri, Tumkur, Karnataka. Madhugiri is a single hill and at an elevation of 3930 ft, Madhugiri is the 2nd largest monolith in entire Asia! The fort is famous for it's architecture. It was built by the Vijayanagar Dynasty. The fort is perched on a steep slope of the hill. Madhugiri is a town, surrounded by the Thimmalapura forest. The name Madhugiri that actually means “Honey-hill” is borrowed from the Honeybee colonies that existed on a few parts of the fort which was constructed by Raja Hire Gowda in the 17th century. Trek is kind of hard if you are a beginner. It will test your stamina and skills for sure. To reach the top of the fort, one has to climb the steep slope with steps until almost half the way. Rest of the trek is all about hiking over the stone and narrow paths. Great experience overall! A fully functional rainwater harvesting system: One more very interesting part of the fort is a rainwater harvesting system that is visible as you trek. You will see that a small canal is dug out on the hill at various places that connect to the pond at the entrance. This system still works and during monsoons, the pond is filled with accumulated rainwater from the hill. I guess the ancient were, after all, living ahead of their time! Note: Make sure you wear proper trekking shoes with a good grip to make the walk easier. Also, pack your bag light, since it is a one day trek, pack only essentials. This will help you climb better because of reduced load, however small. It’s best to reach the base of the fort and start trekking early morning before 7 AM to avoid the harsh sun while climbing. Details: Parking: Available Time Needed for completion: 3 Hours (up & down) Entry Fee: No (they take your name, contact details & ask your address proof - Aadhar Card) Timings: 06:00 AM to 05:00 PM

The Madhugiri trek is of moderate difficulty. If you are a first-timer, then we recommend you prepare well for this trek as it will test your stamina; balance, and endurance. One way, the trek will be close to 1.5 km. It will take you roughly 2-2.5 hours to reach the top and about an hour to descend.

Madhugiri Betta, is known for being one of the largest monolithic rock formations in Asia, making it a favorite spot for adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers. The hill stands at an elevation of around 1,200 meters and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The name "Madhugiri" translates to "Honey Hill" in the local language, owing to the presence of several beehives in the area. Madhugiri Betta's trek is a thrilling experience for adventure seekers. The trekking trail begins at the base of the hill, where you'll find a well-marked path leading to the top. The initial stretch is relatively easy, with steps carved into the rock surface. As you ascend, the trail becomes steeper and more challenging, requiring some level of physical fitness and endurance. This is, by far, the difficult trek in and around Bengaluru. During the trek, you'll encounter interesting features like the ruined fort walls, ancient temples, and a small shrine dedicated to Lord Ganesha. As you reach the summit, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes, including picturesque villages, lush green fields, and distant hills. It is advisable to start the trek early in the morning to avoid the scorching heat and to have ample time to complete the trek comfortably. Carrying water, snacks, and sun protection is essential, as there are NO facilities available on the hill. AND REQUESTING NOT TO THROW ANY PLASTICS or GARBAGE WHILE TREKKING. If possible, pick atleast two plastic bottles while climbing down to contribute towards maintaining the hills beauty. Madhugiri Betta is a popular weekend getaway from Bangalore, located approximately 100 kilometers away. It attracts both seasoned trekkers and casual hikers who wish to escape the city's hustle and immerse themselves in nature. Madhugiri Betta offers a unique trekking experience with its stunning natural beauty, rich history, and panoramic vistas, making it a must-visit destination for adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers in Karnataka, India.

Madhugiri Betta trek is for those who love adventure and rock climbing, place offers you lot of challenges with steep climbs. We started the trek around 7:30 a.m and reached the top around 11:30 a.m the reason for it is the place offers lot of picturesque spots during the trial, and we stopped many places to take the pics, this place is excellent for taking pictures. At one particular point trek gets adventurous due to absence of railing and sloping trail grooves are etched on the rock to rest the feet. One need lot of courage to cross this point, after crossing this point we came across one old lady climbing up with stick in her hand slowly. Also, we saw children’s as young as 8 years getting down There is no trekking charges collected, entry is free. Volunteers present at the entrance will take the Aadhar number of one participants and number of participants in the group

Nice monolithic Rock. The climbing is moderate to tuff but we could see lot of people climbing. There are guide rails for hand till half the distance but suddenly there was no rails for say about 20 meters and that too in a very steep place. So we returned back as we felt unsecured.

About 80 mins from North Bangalore / Hebbal . You can take either the Doddaballapura road or Tumkur Road . It is moderate to difficult trek , definitely needs good fitness . The entire trek is about 6 km with part stone steps ( high) and small foot steps carved on stone supported by a rails for most of the distance . Last ascent js purely rock face . Entire trek does not have much vegetation , so you need to be really early or hope for a cloudy cool morning ! Good shoes are a must because you need to grip the surface at many points . The view is excellent and the trek overall is rewarding . Not recommended for very elderly people - I did see young kids make it , but I think they will need help . I climbed in Nov 2022 on a cool mornjng and the breeze kept the body , mind and heart steady through the ascent 😄. No fee / registration needed ( for now ) . A guard takes down your Id / aadhaar details and head count and you ensure you sign out when you have finished your descent . Good parking for cars

No food or water is available once you start climbing... So, stock up before starting... Also, you might loose your way while climbing down... There is no proper pathway marking... Be carefull...

Place is good, no trek fee is to be paid anywhere. However one needs to carry Aadhaar card which has to be kept with the guards till you return( which is weird). The place is kept clean no littering and no eating options en route or on the top or near by shops. There are a few small times eateries, but nothing significant. Tumkur is the nearest decent food place. The hiking trail is slightly tiring if you are not fit. There are just a couple of paths that are very steep and tiring. 95 % of the trail is exposed to sun. The surrounding are very scenic post rains and view from peak is breathtaking.

An awesome place and view from top will indeed mesmerize you. Better to start early in morning. Gates will open at 6am we went on 19/12. Trek to top is not easy, guide rails are present at only some area, definitely not recommended for elders. No shops are available at top, please carry the things you need right from your start. It takes at least 3hrs to hike to top and get back.

Second largest monolithic hill in Asia. Climb is moderately challenging and rewarding. View at the top is something you dont want to miss. Start the day early, unless climb is not challenging enough. Take enough water and bring back all the bottles with you. If possible just pick 2-3 bottles that others have thrown so that we can contribute a little towards cleaner Madhugiri fort.

I had one of the greatest experience climbing the hills. It is one of the hardest climb to the TOP. You will have a great time climbing the hill and at the top, you can visit the ruins of the castle.

A great place with historical significance is also a natural Marvel, the size of that one rock is massive and the sight from a distance is mesmerizing. There's a security guard at the entrance who checks the bags for alcohol. I'd recommend authorities to be more harsh on disposable plastic as it is seen strewn at some places. There's ample parking space at the base of the hill and toilet doors are locked. No businesses run once you enter, so carry food if necessary. It's an easy trek about 45 mins to the top, at some places it gets a little steep. The view from the top is breathtaking. Avoid going late in the morning, the best time to start is as early as possible around 6am.
