I enjoyed the experience. It was fun, educational and interesting. It is not advisable to bring very young kids and pensioners. Some of the passages are too low to pass and the stairs when you get out are too many.

What a beautiful wonder Echo Caves is. Nature truly is something else. We learned a lot on the day, this is a great place to go as a family or as a group of friends. Entrance for 1 person is R80 and you get a guided tour around. I can say a mouthful about Echo Caves, it was quite an experience. You won't regret it.

It is said that Echo Caves can potentially be the biggest cave system in South Africa, once fully discovered. Whether the biggest or not, it is definitely worth a visit. The fact that it is not on the Panorama Route proper meant that it wasn't that busy in peak season, which was a big plus. Only guided tours are allowed, and our guide was the perfect host for the 1.5hr tour. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, patient with our myriad of questions and threw in a few jokes for good measure. The history of the people that lived in the caves was particularly interesting. The caves itself is quite remarkable, and the reason why it is called Echo Caves was definitely a highlight. Although there are a few tight places to get through, and duck under, it is suitable for all ages and not strenuous. I would highly recommend visiting if you are in the area.

Echo caves is fantastic. Over a kilometer of underground walking and the guide gives you alot of information regarding the past of these caves. Never experienced being underground for so long its amazing. The staff and guide were awesome and had humor to his lessons. The staff were great and would suggest you give it a try.

What a nice experience. Garden is very well kept and all nice old items takes you back in time. The cave tour is well planned and the tour guide was very well prepared and the information was very entertaining and presented for everyone to understand. Very interesting stories about the cave and area around the area. Tour are given through out the day and worth the cost. Tour takes about an hour. If I can recommend take a flashlight with. There is lights inside but with a good flashlight you can see so much more. Restaurant outside caters for some quick meals. Staff is very friendly and helpful. I can highly recommend Echo Caves.

Very informative. Enjoyed the trip through the caves. Some tight squeezes, but all in all a great experience

Didnt stay at hotel, only caves. Amazing experience visiting the caves. Interesting tour guiding you through the chambers of the caves. At some places gets quite narrow, some parts of the cave tour are optional for that reason. The views you get are totally worth the but climbing/crawling you have to do in there.

It's well maintained and affordable. It's a unique opportunity to experience caves. There is a little tuckshop. The gravel road is accessible with a normal vehicle.

Almost the best caves we have been to but the obligatory coerced tip was not welcome. BUT we would have been more than happy to tip if it was not for the litter all over in the caves. An additional suggestion would be that the lights get adjusted that they do not shine into the visitors eyes and rather on the attraction.

Hidden gem. Very much worthwhile to spend an hour or two at Echo Caves. The guided tour through the cave system is made memorable due to the fantastic guide. We had Thabo as our guide, very knowledgeable about the caves, the history, formation of the caves, as well as the general area where the caves are situated. I can really recommend it as an outing.

Very friendly staff. Tour guide was friendly and patiently answered all our questions. The waffle with icecream were delicious, one suggestion just warm up the waffle. The scenery is stunning.

Only went for a school trip. Amazing place especially to feel ancient heritage and history. Would recommend to be not more than 20 children because the can get chaotic. But for adults you can even group to about 40 people. Really enjoyed the drums. Would recommend for geologists as well.

Madonna cave together with Echo cave. You have to have this guided tour in your short todo list if you are exploring that area. To visit not to stay here. Very interesting walk while you are listening stories about people using these caves. Unfortunately you have to drive a gravel road to get there.

Great tour! Has a restaurant and overnight facilities, haven’t tried it. Only did the tour. Must be noted on the tour you will have to crouch on the short route and on the long route you crouch even lower and more. Tour guide is very informative, he has great knowledge about caves and the history of the land/area. Seen some bats, he made good music inside. Well worth the tour!

What an amazing experience. Unfortunately the crystal palace was closed due to bats, I would've loved to go there😩

This is the place to go if you are looking for an adventure and want to learn about bapedi history πŸ˜‰ I really enjoyed the tour especially that part when they made echoing sound with the white stone ....the best I can't wait to visit the place again 😍 ☺

I took my kids there, very educational and exciting. They strictly comply with Covid-19 regulations. However you need to be ready to move in the cave.

R80 entrance fee. Very interesting caves, a lot of steps and a few low-ceiling crawling tunnels. Guide had very good knowledge and was very entertaining!

There is soo much to learn about the history of Pedi people who were once the occupants of the Caves in the early era. It was such an experience with a tour guider explaining different formation of rocks, very educational indeed

Its okay, waited a while for the guide. It was informative, spaces a bit small at times, and a lot of stairs when you exit. Guide was quick to shove a little book in your hand for a tip. Oh well

I have definitely seen some caves before, but this cave blew my mind. I really did not expect such a huge cave there. It is approximately 1km long and will take you 50 min to complete. Our guide was well informed and also showed us some bigger side caves. 100% advisable to visit.

Amazing Gem of a place situated about 28 min drive from Blyde Canyon resort. Worth the visit, facility is well kept and the staff is friendly, really enjoyed our visit.

The Echo caves is about 10km away from Pilgrims Rest. Still very natural, you will enjoy the tour. Go ready for some optional crawling into tight spots (wouldn't be a proper cave without them😊) and some serious walking. FYI, on maps the caves will state that they are temporarily closed.....they are not, so do drive and enjoy. So, our guide was Thabo, he was patient, shared historical information about the cave, and wanted us to have the full experience. Highly recommend that you visit, you'll absolutely enjoy the it.

Saw the sign for the caves, decided why not. Best. Cave. Ever. The cooks at the restaurant know how to cook! The tour was excellent, the highlights were the madonna and frozen waterfall. 9.5/10 Would HIGHLY recommend!

I loved the history lesson I got here, it was amazing to hear about how smart the Bapedi people were and how they stayed here as their place of safety. I tried the sacred water as well and it tasted like mineral water. The stairs at the entrance and exit will leave u breathless but it was all worth it!! Definitely not wheelchair friendly.

  • 4/5 Rozanne E. 4 years ago on Google
Interesting and well maintained. Guide was informed and friendly. Tipping is optional and he appreciated the R20 pp. It is only 4km from the main road to the caves. You pass the Museum of Man (located in an impressive overhang) on your way there. Do not confuse the two sites. Current entry fee R80 pp for the caves.

You get a tour guide who's very knowledgeable about the history of the caves. You'll get information about how people lived in the caves. Wear comfortable shoes for hiking, because you'll go up and down the caves and some places are muddy.

(Translated by Google) Wonderful place and interesting guide, the only discordant note is the geological ignorance of the guide who explains wrong things and invites visitors to detach pieces of rock, which is absolutely negative in a karst cave. You don't have to touch anything if you want to preserve it.

😠 Not what I expected at all. Just stopped in for a quick look (only R5), so can't speak for the accommodation, but some of the sculptures in the shoe (museum section) are truly inappropriate for children... Wouldn't suggest it as a family stop.
