What an amazing hidden gem!!! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there during December 2021. The wooden cabins are absolutely breathtaking and the views from the veranda is something to behold. The cabins are extremely well equipped and everything is of a high quality. We had a few cold evenings, but the complimentary wood and the indoor fireplace worked wonders and created a great atmosphere. The drive up to the cabins are a pure joy with lots of wild animals to see every day you drive the road. We saw Black Wildebeest, Zebra, Red hartebeest, etc. etc., we even saw a Jackal in the wild. San Parks, you can be very proud of this park and you staff. Everyone we met, from the check-in lady, the rangers, the shop keepers to the cleaners were neatly dressed in their official uniforms and were so knowledgeable and friendly. We loved every minute of our stay and would highly recommend the HMR to anyone.

The setting is astounding. The access road is a masterpiece of engineering. The construction of the chalets is an ecological marvel. The maintenance, facilities and cleanliness is immaculate. It's hard to believe that this is situated in a failed country.

A bit of an interesting drive to get to this spot, but so worth it. The views are breathtaking. The little wooden cabins is built to accommodate nature, roofs covered with grass to form part of nature. An ideal spot for a romantic getaway or with a family, but no toddlers, a bit dangerous

Beautiful place, magical views. Brilliant night sky and Very cold in Winter πŸ₯Ά for obvious reasons. Anyone interested in astrophotography must go there ( preferably in winter). Bird life around cottage is also very good in dry season. We could see vulture flying in some distance from hide so bad of bad luck. Most important is to make sure your vehicle will make 14deg incline to get to cottage, that’s too narrow and one way, it’s paved though and some good hard work by park management there πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ. Cottage needs serious maintenance to plug the gaps between logs.

This has a magnificent view! Unfortunately it was a very cold weekend and the houses are poorly insulated. You can actually feel the wind blowing through them so that made the stay uncomfortable. In addition, the fireplace was not very effective and the houses weren't stocked very well in terms of kitchen equipment. As much as I loved the location, I will most likely not be coming back here.

Breathing views. The chalets are well equipped and it truly feels like your on the top of the world. It is not very near any shops so come prepared. I love the architecture of the chalets, the look like they belong on the mountain and are growing out of it. You also have the opportunity to see some of the endemic bird species. It’s a really special place.

An awesome experience. Couple of things to keep in mind. At 2200m above sea level it gets cold. Take something warm for the night. The cabin has a fireplace and wood and firelighters and even matches are provided. Our wood was wet. Take your own. The cabin is a log cabin. It is dark inside. It gets worse with loadshedding. Take extra rechargeable lamps. It has lovely curtains inside that helps to keep the cold outside and the heat inside. Vodacom is the only mobile network provider for the area. Bring your own coffee and milk. Tea is provided. The night sky is absolutely awesome on a clear night. The cabin we stayed in had a double bed. It was too small, and the matress wonky. Otherwise a good experience. One less bucket list item

Absolutely beautiful! Clean and neat little cabin with all the required amenities. (If you really can't go without one, bring your own chef's knife). Serenity.

This is my go-to destination for a getaway. Not too long drive from Pretoria. Never disappointed in the scenery and peaceful environment. Reservation is done online and is easy to use and reliable using the Sanparks website.

A must visit with stunning views and unspoilt vegetation. The park is exceptionally clean except for one or 2 pieces of litter obviously discarded by selfish people. The walking and climbing trials are great a visit to nearby Clarens is an absolute treat.

Serene, breathtaking and peaceful. This is pretty much a perfect stay to get away from city life and recharge. It's only 3.5 hours from Johannesburg, which makes it perfect for a weekend getaway. The wooden cabins are nestled into the mountain with amazing views overlooking a ravine/valley and the Drakensberg mountains. The cabins are basic but are neat, clean and have all the essentials to braai and cook a basic meal. A daybed on the deck would be ideal for relaxing, but that's just nitpicking! The location is also great, being close to several hiking trails in the national park and less than an hour from the small town of Clarens. Overall a great stay & highly recommended!

Nice accommodation, very cold. If you are planning to go there please pack warm clothes and firewood. Also confirm if the electricity problem been fixed. Overall it was a lovely peaceful place.

Zero water. Zero communication. R10k later. Beautiful, but be wary.
