We had wanted to come to Mudgee Observatory but was quite sadden that all the tours had been booked out weeks ahead. (Make sure you book in early if you're planning a trip here). Thankfully, John was super nice and showed us around during the day. We even got to see some solar flares with the telescopes! Definitely a highlight of our trip. Do make sure you book ahead so you won't miss out!

If you do one thing in Mudgee - do this! Once you get over the mildly terrifying (for us Londoners) drive through the middle of nowhere in pitch black you are welcomed with a warm drink and friendly smile and introduction from John who has a wealth of knowledge and has crafted a beautiful observatory in his own home. 10/10.

John's observatory was an awesome experience. He's very Knowledgeable picking out great views to look at through his telescopes. I really enjoyed the educational evening getting to appreciate the night sky outside of the city by spending a bit of time in a group of like minded people. Thanks John!!

Great experience. John knows his stuff and he'll really open your eyes to the amazing world of astronomy. On our trip we were lucky to see Saturn (including the rings)!

Thank you. Had a wonderful informative evening. Looking at the stars, a great set up on his property. With video & memorabilia. Even provided a hot cuppa and biscuits. It was well worth the drive & tricky road in the dark.

Amazing experience! It was so beautiful sitting under a blanket of stars and hearing all about our universe. Then there was the bonus of the collection of images, videos and artefacts. So worth a visit. My 9 year old can’t wait to go back.

A cosy, intimate and relaxed set up. John was brilliant at explaining all the stars and how things worked. He was happy to answer any questions we had. The backyard set up was so different to any experience I've had, we absolutely loved it. Well worth a trip, would do it again

Had a lovely experience at the Mudgee Observatory on Friday evening. It was fascinating learning about the stars and our solar system. We could see scorpius so clearly! It was incredible how many stars we could see in the sky. Make sure to take note of the way you came as you may not have reception to use maps on your way back.
