Grosse Pointe Public Library -- Ewald Branch

Public library

👍👍 I really enjoyed my experience at Grossed Pointe Public library. The staff are friendly and helpful. The highlight of my visit there is reading by the fireplace. And feeling the warmth from the fire. Just need some um mmmmmmmm hot chocolate or some ummmmmm warm cider. Mumbling under my breathe Mike'... People often mention library,

This review is about the Central Branch on Kercheval. I usually have not had bad experiences here...it's a library, I sometimes use the resources available, mainly the computers and printer when I run out of ink and paper at home. I had to go to the library this morning to print off some documents for work and was in a little bit of a hurry. When I tried to print, the printer showed a 'replace ink cartridge' notification... I went to the front desk and told the librarian (short blonde hair and glasses) there, to which she snapped at me "I can't help you, go ask a librarian." Um, ok? Who, exactly? She then rolled her eyes at me, walked over to the printer, said something along the lines of "maybe it needs paper, but if it's anything else then I can't help you." and called another librarian over, who had to call over two other people to rectify the situation, which took about 15 minutes to solve. Sorry I was wasting your time and annoying you by asking for help. I understand everyone has bad days, but if you are working with the public, AT A LIBRARY, be considerate to the patrons there who are utilizing the library's services. That is your job. I probably won't be returning to this library anytime soon if the employees act this way... and don't check the printer for ink and paper before the day starts and before the library opens. Common sense.

Historically, I would recommend this library. However, today I requested a study room. I lived in GP for 26 years and am back visiting my parents. No one was using the study rooms at the time. The librarian said they were only available if you had a library card. I explained my situation and she LAUGHED AT ME. I said I'd be happy to leave the room if a library card holder wanted the room and she LAUGHED AT ME. Then she ignored me. This is terrible customer service and blatant rudeness. Someday I'll be moving back and this library will never get funding from me.

It's okay. Its nice and quiet . You can get alot of studying done here. You can't eat or sleep there. I dosed off for a few seconds and it was a major problem. They give out Food but you can't bring your own food kinda weird right?

The remodel is beautiful, I needed to pick up some copies that I sent over through my email which is so convenient when your copier is down at home. At the same time my kids can look at books and do their homework.

Went to check out the kids area. My 3 and 1 year old are mostly interested in toys. This library does not have much in that vein... a little dollhouse with furniture but no dolls, an empty farm, some puzzles, and a puppet show area. Was looking for something more like Royal Oak with a train table, blocks, etc. Maybe this will be better when my kids are older. Oops! This review is about the branch located on Mack Ave.

Central library is great! It's not the newest or most modern of the libraries in the Pointes, but they recently did a remodeling job and it's open and bright. Their staff is super helpful and nice--both circulation and reference. They offer free wireless, programs for adults and children, and all the usual items you'd expect from a library. Their foreign film collection is quite good, as are their selection of documentaries. Be sure to check out Zimio and Hoopla, which are online services that have tons of content free to library card holders.
