Sanctury
is

Keetham
Bird
Sanctury.
The
Keetham
lake,
is
about
20
km
from
Agra
and
12
km
from
sikandra
is
located
within
the
Sur
Sarovar
Bird
Sanctuary.
It
was
declared
as
National
Bird
Sanctuary
on
27
March
1991
by
U.P.
Forest
Department.
The
river
Yamuna
surrounds
the
area
of
Sur-Sarovar.
The
entire
lake
is
formed
in
a
catchment
area
of
7.13
km.
Keetham
Lake
is
pentagonal
in
shape
and
there
are
artificially
created
islands
which
provides
shelter
to
the
migratory
birds
during
seasons.
The
best
thing
is
that
it
is
on
the
way
to
Delhi
via
NH-2
Highway
and
tourist
can
visit
during
their
journey
to
Agra.
The
famed
poet
Soordas
composed
the
Bhakti
Kavya
about
Lord
Krishna
and
Radha
sitting
in
this
place.
The
Santury
is
a
shelter
for
birds
that
come
here
in
large
numbers
from
far
and
wide.
Soor
Sarovar
bird
sanctuary
covered
an
area
of
7.97
sq
km
and
within
the
sanctuary
the
large
lake
covers
area
of
2.25sq
km
with
depth
ranging
from
4
meter
to
8
meters.
It
is
today
home
to
more
than
165
species
of
migratory
and
resident
birds.
Forest
Department
has
created
woodlands
and
developed
shallow
areas
for
waders
around
the
lake
making
it
a
suitable
for
birds.
Besides
migratory
birds
this
is
a
Bear
Rescue
centre
for
rescued
dancing
bears.
