One of the best tourist attractions in Thimphu. Huge, long idol of Buddha is the central of attractions. Entry is fee and ample parking outside the gate. Inside the temple, large number of small Buddha idols, spiritual books, large bell etc are worth seeing!!! The environment all around the campus is spiritual. The place is must for tourists visiting Thimphu.

This massive statue of Shakyamuni measures in at a height of 51.5 m, making it one of the largest statues of Buddha in the world. The statue is made of bronze and is gilded in gold. 125,000 smaller Buddha statues have been placed within the Buddha Dordenma statue; 100,000 statues of which are 8-inches-tall and 25,000 statues of which are 12 inches tall. Each of these thousands of Buddhas have also been cast in bronze and gilded. The throne that the Buddha Dordenma sits upon is a large meditation hall.

Buddha Dordenma is an incredible architectural masterpiece featuring one of the largest Buddha statues in the world. Standing over 50 meters tall, the bronze statue is adorned with golden gilding. Surrounding the main statue are 125,000 smaller Buddha statues. The serene Buddha Dordenma sits atop a meditation hall, radiating a sense of calmness. Located approximately 7 km from Thimphu Town, this place is a must-visit for its awe-inspiring beauty and spiritual ambiance. If you enjoyed my review, please like it!

One of the largest Buddha statues in the world, Buddha Dordenma is a masterpiece of architectural wonder. The massive bronze statue is more than 50 meters in height and is gilded in gold. Apart from this it also houses 125,000 other Buddha statues that are placed surrounding the Buddha Dordenma statue. Sitting royally atop a great meditation hall, this Buddha statue exudes peace and tranquillity. The Buddha point is about 7 km from the Thimphu Town, and one can easily reach the Buddha point by hiring a cab.

Surrounding the main statue at the Buddha point. Are these various statues in various sizes. The entire place look magnificent surrounded by the mountain and the blue sky. Sometimes you see cloud coverings the statue and it is a picture worth capturing when you are driving by. By the way, do you know that in bhutan, every Thursday is a traffic free day lowering the reliance on cars and less pollution. I think it's a fantastic move.

Buddha Dordenma: Sitting on top of Kuensel Phodrang hill is a huge statue of 51.5-m bronze statue of Buddha (founder of Buddhism). The Buddha Dordenman. Interestingly, the statue itself is the home for over 100,000 smaller statues of Buddha, made from bronze and gold. The site also offers unobstructed views over the Thimphu Valley - especially stunning at sunset

This is a must visit place if you are in Thimphu. It can be viewed from all the areas and mostly from all the hotels in Thimphu. This is the center point of Thimphu. Parking is available and no hiking 🥾 to reach the place. There are almost 1 lakh Buddha statues inside the monument of similar structures. No entry fees to be paid.

A giant golden Buddha Statue sits at one of the mountains in Thimphu. Its presence reflects the dominant religion in Bhutan. The Buddha Dordenma (Buddha Point) is the largest sitting statue of the Buddha in at measuring 51.5 meters in height and made of solid bronze. Inside the Buddha are 125,000 smaller Bhuddha statues, 25,000 12 inch statues and 100,000 8 inch statues. I visited two times before COVID, and it was free. But in November 2022, they charged me 1000 BTN.

What a serene place! The energy is pulsating here and I felt like I received the blessings of the masters. The Buddha statue is stunning and seems to loom large over the entire Thimphu city. Thousands of monks were chanting in unison here as there was some religious ceremony going on when I visited here. The daikinis or Goddess statues also add to the aura of this pristine place. Entry was free.

Amazing statue of Buddha located to the south of Thimphu Valley that gets lit up at night with great surrounding views. Easily accessible by car and plenty of areas to take photos, outside of the temple of course.

Woooo!! I am explaining even now just because of seeing the pictures. The place is incredible. It is truly a guardian Buddha overseeing Thimpu at all times. The grandeur and all possible architecture is very evident in the smallest of the details. The place is very clean and very nicely maintained. The place from where we got down is yet to see the completion. Very scenic and truly a must visit.

OUTSTANDING STATUE IN SIZE AND GRANDEUR  The largest sitting Buddha, gilded in gold overlooking the Thimphu valley.  Amazing when lit at night, surrounded by clean, crisp air only possible in Bhutan.  Under the statue is a huge meditation hall.  Best time to visit is early morning or evening as footwear is not allowed, and the floor gets hot in the sun.  Statue was made overseas, and sea shipped in small pieces, which were then transported via Phuentsholing to Thimphu around 17 years ago.  Stand at the top and gaze at the valley for a panoramic and breath taking view of Thimphu city.

A place of strong cosmic energy, Buddha point as it is called, Dordenma had a temple tucked underneath the statue. Visit it not for a tourist experience but a spiritually uplifting one.

The Buddha Dordenma is located atop a hill in Kuenselphodrang Nature Park and overlooks the Southern entrance to Thimphu Valley. The statue fulfils an ancient prophecy dating back to the 8th century A.D that was discovered by Terton Pema Lingpa (Religious Treasure Discoverer) and is said to emanate an aura of peace and happiness to the entire world. Need to hike a lot to reach the top from the gate . on busy day getting parking near the gate is bit problematic. In that case you have to walk . This is free for all .

Great Buddha Dordenma is a gigantic Shakyamuni Buddha statue in the mountains of Bhutan celebrating the 60th anniversary of fourth king Jigme Singye Wangchuck. The statue houses over one hundred thousand smaller Buddha statues, each of which, like the Great Buddha Dordenma itself, are made of bronze and gilded in gold. The Great Buddha Dordenma is sited amidst the ruins of Kuensel Phodrang, the palace of Sherab Wangchuk, the thirteenth Druk Desi, overlooking the southern approach to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. Construction began in 2006 and was planned to finish in October 2010, however construction did not conclude until 25 September 2015. The completed work is one of the largest Buddha rupas in the world, at 169 feet (52 m) and contains 100,000 8-inch-tall and 25,000 12-inch-tall gilded bronze Buddhas.

Giant Buddha statue. There is a temple under the Buddha statue, and it is a good place to learn about Buddhism history in Bhutan. Good view of Thimphu from the top too.

Buddha point is a common name for Buddha Dordenm .Buddha Point is located in Thimphu on the hills In Bhutan is a must-see destination for anyone visiting this beautiful country. Here you can reach by walking also but that will take minimum 1 hour of time. you can also come here by car which will take around 15 minutes uphill. This statue looks very impressive and stands at a towering height of 169 feet and is truly breathtaking and beautiful. The view of Thimphu valley from the site is equally stunning. The blue sky again adds a beauty of this place. Lots of prayer flags lined up the road heading to the Buddha which really looks beautiful. Visitors can take in the panoramic view of Thimphu town while enjoying the peaceful surroundings. Irrespective of a religious pilgrim or a curious traveler, a visit to Buddha Point is an experience you won't soon forget. You can walk around this temple situated within the body area of the statue. The temple is neat and clean and has a complete silence The temple is filled with gold filigree throughout, with thousands of little golden buddhas on shelves which line the interior walls. There is room for approx. 12000 of such small statues. You can also receive a blessing from the monks, with an expected donation - either by drinking the holy water or receiving a blessed orange string to wear as a necklace.

This giant statue of Buddha is visible from almost everywhere in Thimphu. But it’s majestic size becomes apparent only when you are up close. The base has a monastery within with some interesting statutes and artwork. You can either climb the steep flights of steps or drive up to the base. Part of the steps are still under construction, and maybe completed soon. Photography is permitted outside but not inside the monastery. The admission fee is Rs 1000 per person for foreigners so you can consider just viewing from a distance.

A very peaceful and touristic place. Check with your guide if there is an entree free. There are two entrances, one a staircase and another via the parking lot. The area is quite huge with indoor and outdoor visual attractions. From near the toilet just before the parking place is a road that leads to a park from where Thimphu view are nice. At this junction, there is also a trail uphill that can lead to the same park after going round the hill and I am told, branches off somewhere a 5 km trail to go to Thimphu. We could not find it without a guide.

It is a beautiful and tall statue. You can see almost the entire Thimphu from here. The statue can also be seen from almost all the areas in Thimphu. However the vast open space surrounding the statue becomes very hot in scorching sun. Becomes almost unbearable. Do not forget to take drinking water, wear shades and hats. A part of the place was closed when we visited. There are very beautiful smaller statues too.
