30-45 min of Trek will take you up there. Temple is a 3 storey building with kagye, gongtu and phurpa statues. Might not be interesting if you are not a fan of architecture and budhist culture. But to be honest the view from top (terrace) of the temple is worth visiting. Panoramic view of Punakha valley is amazing.

The temple is located on the hill so It's about 45 minutes walk up on a nice trail with nice view of the river and the valley. Once on the top you have a beautiful scenery of the temple but you have to be there the get the feeling and the aura which can't be put in words.....

Fun short hike through rice field to get to the monastery that lies on the top of the mountain. The hike is much easier than the Tiger’s Nest in Paro. Less than 300m uphill and it is a gradual walk.

It is a three-storeys Buddhist stupa designed with unique Bhutanese architecture. It is located on top of one of the hills in Punakha valley. This Stupa is not accessible by road so it is 20-30 minutes hike from the nearest accessible road. The hike is amazing. It starts with crossing a suspension bridge, walk through the beautiful rice field and then through small peaceful forest before reaching the stupa. In the midway of hike, there is a resting place with prayer wheel where you can earn merits while you are taking rest. We can get inside the stupa of each floor. All the floors are filled with sacred statues where you can worship and offer prayers. We can even get to the rooftop of the 3rd floor. There is a Buddha statue and a 360 degree viewpoint. From this point, you can get marvelous view of Punakha valley and turns and twists of Mo Chhu(male river of Punatsangchhu). I enjoyed everything; the hike, the beauty of the stupa and the views that we can get from the stupa. It was worth visiting and want to visit again although I already visited twice. Time of travel: 2017 & July 2018

Nice short hike to this beautiful monastery, where one can take a tour of different levels inside the monastery. The view from the top overlooking the valley is breathtaking.

The trail is very nice and easy. The must have is a guide to explain all the details of this modern temple build not so long ago. The views are magnificent

About Half An Hour’s Drive From The Punakha Dzong, Cross A Suspension Bridge (Much Shorter Than The One Near Punakha Dzong) Over The Mo Chhu River Before Walking Alongside Terraced Rice Fields And Up A Trail To Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten. You May See Farmers (And Their Families) Working The Fields, And Depending On The Season, Agricultural Products May Be Available For Sale Along The Trail. View The Beautiful Sculptures Inside The Chorten And Enjoy Expansive Views Of The Punakha Valley. It Should Take An Hour or Less To Reach Khamsum Chorten.

Must visit place approx 10-15mins drive from Damchen resort. Once you reach the bridge one has to climb the mountain by trekking to reach the temple. The trek one way takes approx 45mins & is around 1.5kms the trek road is good passing through mountain & beautiful trees. The view is awesome while you climb. Once you reach the temple all the efforts taken will be worth. This trek is kind of a practice for Tiger's Nest so don't miss it. Inside the temple it is beautiful & peaceful do spend some good time admiring the artifacts. On the top of the temple one gets a bird's view of the entire valley which is very beautiful, it feels like paradise. Do not miss this place it is one of the most beautiful place in Bhutan.

Khamsum chorten is a beautiful temple inside a stupa and it's main statue is that of a vajrakilaya (phurba lhatsho). This temple was built by queen mother azhi tshering yangden wangchuck for good and ling life of His Majesty 5th king of Bhutan and also for the peace and harmony of Bhutan and world. Amazing things about this temple is that on the top of this temple is a mesmerizing 360° aerial view of punakha valley.

So pleasant and easy hike. If you are in punakha for couple of days then you must visit as it is only half an hour hike from the base.

Really beautiful view there. Can only take photo outside the temple and on the top level of viewing point. Cant take photos inside the temple... before you even reach there, need to trek and hike a little. Beware of all the poo poos along the way.....

An incredible three storied Stupa with an entire mandala of protective deities such as Dorje Phurba represented as incredible detailed statues. It was built for His Majest the 5th King to avert obstacles and aid His activities. The building above above the stupa is Queen's palace.

The most beautiful temple hike ever in Bhutan is this trail to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal, where the trails leads you through the lush green paddy field crossing the Suspension bridge. Reaching here, you must climb up to the top attic of the temple at 4th floor! You are allowed to take a picture from the rooftop of the breathtaking valley bellow. This view will just blow your mind, so peaceful and calm! We will feel a step closer to heaven.
