Its a place where you will forget all the pains and suffering of 2 hours hike from base. Its a holy sites too where you get enough space to gain spiritual merits as there are lots of temples where you can wash your sins which you have committed earlier. All the best and if you are looking for 1 day hike or planning to do the camping this is perfect place i recommends all.! ENJOY.!!!

A three-hour moderate hike to Phajoding monastery is one of the most rewarding hike tourists can engage in while in Thimphu. The 5km arduous uphill hike takes tourists through the pine forest. While the climb can be physically challenging, tourists can enjoy the serenity of being in the woods throughout the journey. Closer to the destination, tourists will finally clear the tree line and can get an amazing view of the Thimphu city and on a clear weather day, the vantage point also offers a spectacular view of the eastern Himalayas. Upon arrival, travelers can explore the 13th-century monastery which consists of 10 Lhakhangs (temples) and 15 meditation retreats also extended as residences. Most of the architectures were built in 1748 by the ninth Je Khenpo(head of religious body), Shakya Rinchen. The name of the monastery is directly derived from its founder Phajo Drugom Zhigpo, a yogi from Kham, Tibet.

The hike starts at 2750 meters and the Phajoding Monastery is at 3600 Meters so you have to start early to spend more time there . Take pack lunch and wear layers to adapt to the change in temperature.

It's beautiful, it's serene....one of the least trekked places in Thimphu and perfect for camping for a night or two. The monasteries around add a spiritual touch to Phajoding. Loved the place and will trek once again.

Panaromic view of the Thimpu valley can be seen from here. If you are planning to stay here at night carry your own sleeping bags. It's on the druk path so one can hike till Paro from Thimpu.

Must visited place if you are staying in Thimphu for more then 2 days . It is a kind of trekking place also. It takes more then 04 hours to reach at this place from Thimphu telecommunication tower. But after reaching at this place it feels like mehnat vasool. You can stay here with monks & know about their living culture & all. Best time to visit this place in November or December, cause these months are less visited month so u feel here very close to monks lives .for me it is a lifetime memorable experience. I wish i can visit this place every year .

You won't regret for having tried to hike for 3 hours uphill. Splendid views and if you walk little further beyond monastery ong Druk Path Trails, you will feel like continuing your hike for more hours. Pictures included from Thuje Drak monastery and Druk Path Trail.

Phajoding is about a 3 hours hike from Motithang, above Royal Takin Preserve. Hikers can enjoy the peace and quietness of being in the woods throughout the excursion. Phajoding Monastery is also part of the Druk Trek Path, which runs between Thimphu and Paro and is a popular trekking path. From the site, one can get an amazing view of Thimphu Valley.

Phajoding Monastery is a Buddhistmonastery near Thimpu in Bhutan. It was one of the richest and most decorated monasteries in the country however due to neglect, it was listed in 2010 by the World Monuments Fund as an endangered cultural monument. Phajoding Monastery was founded in the 13th century by Phajo Drugom Zhigpo (1184-1251), a Tibetan lama who spread the Drukpa Kagyuteachings of Buddhism in Bhutan.[2] Most of the buildings at Phajoding however were constructed in 1748 by Gyelwa Shakya Rinchen (1710-1759), the 9th Je Khenpo (rje mkhan po).[1] Today, the monastery currently houses 80 young monks.

Phajuding is a Buddhist Monastery which takes 3 - 3.5 hours to hike from the nearest route. There are many temples inside the monastery which carry great religious significance. Hiking another 45 minutes from Phajuding lies the Thujedrak Monastery. If one wishes to visit the 7 sacred lakes, the trekking route starts from the Thujedrak Monastery. Thujedrak Monastery also has a small guest house for lake hikers and visitors. Phajuding and the seven lakes are amazing places to visit! They also offer views of various snow capped mountains of Bhutan.

The reward for hiking uphill for about 3 hours from Motithang Takin Preserve is the best view of Thimphu town. When weather is fine, you can also see blanket of fluffy clouds above Thimphu.
