Located in a distance of 1 km from Natraj temple, it houses Maa Kali, who resides in both shantha and ugra states. Kumkumarchana is the most important offering here.

After getting disappointed seeing the temple doors of Paalvanna Nathar locked, we decided to visit Thillai kali Amman temple, since this was on our list of "to visit temples" for quiet some time. Took sometime and help to locate this temple. Temple in a very cramped area, and the roads leading to the temple are in very very poor condition. The best part is there is no parking space at all, but yet they charge you for car parking. Temple facing west. No Rajagopuram, no kodimaram. Goddess Name : Thillai Kali Amman. Legend goes that Kali was engaged in a battle with Lord shiva, and to avoid further blood shed, Lord shiva invites Kali to a dance competition. Winner of the dance competition would be declared winner of the battle. Kali agreed but Lord shiva tricked her and won the competition. An angry Kali went and stood on the edge of town. Have heard people say, that before you visit Chidambaram Nataraj Temple, one has to visit Thillai kali temple. Inside the temple, one can see the Furious kali facing east and a four faced kali amman facing west.

(Visited in October 2021) - Thillai Kali Amman temple, located in the outskirts of Chidambaram was built by a local chieftain of Imperial Cholas in late 13th Century CE. The entire temple seems to be smeared in Red vermilion. The main deity, Goddess Thillai Kali, appears in a furious, reddish form, diagonally opposite to the deity placed on entrance dedicated to the much calmer Thillai Amman.

It is a special temple for Kali goddess. The main goddess is to the left side inside the temple. There can be a huge queue. Be early to make a easy visit. There is ample car parking in front of the temple. When I visited no one charged for the car parking. Deepam is offered to Kali in the deepam spot in front of the goddess. Deepam can also be bought inside the temple. Road is very hot and better to leave slippers close to the temple.

Thillai Kaali is our family's deity. So my special attention always there more than 60 years of my known visits there with family members. Getting dharshan of KAALI AMMAN is very blissful feeling. In the recent past every 'Amavasya Day' I visit the temple during 7-8 am. I feel very peaceful and safe during my visit there. Anyone can go strait, get dharshan and return.

Jai Mahakali. It is said that a visit to Thillai Kali temple is a must after visiting Chidambaram Nataraja temple. Beautiful to see the ferocious yet compassionate form of the Mother.

The path to visit temple above should be cleanly maintained. Seems the surrounding atmosphere is not clean and also some alcoholics mis-using the surrounding place after temple closed..

Great experience, It was my first time visiting, It was marvelous, The temple visit was auspicious with full of red colour, You have to pay some parking charges if you are going with a four wheeler. Wait for the priest to do the regular rituals, stay some more time and experience the divine.

One of the holiest shrines with the worst maintenance. The entire complex is very dirty despite the efforts of the cleaning staff. The devotees have to share the major blame for this. The temple staff are more interested in making money than helping the pilgrims. The approach road is awful.

Normally we visit first thilai Kali. Then only we go to natraja temple. Only worry is if you decide to do any archanai. You compulsorily have to pay atleast Rs 50 ( min ) to the priest. I given Rs 20 but he is fighting with me and asked another Rs 30. Normally i don't fight for this silly problem . It's uncnesseey get disturbing the peace . Even i told i don't have change . he keep on arguing with me. Finally he returned back the money . I really don't understand this kind of behaviour.....in natraja temple they priest are doing marketing inside the temple. ...
