Post covid 19 visit. Not so crowded. For accommodation: A number of hotels in various range available around the temple. The town is so dirty. Especially the bus station. For vegan : One must visit Krishna Veg. Restaurant , East side of the Temple. Clean, hygiene and tasty food serves. The Temple has no need of a preface. And it is not easy to describe... It's beyond the words... Amazing....!

Awesome! What an amazing Temple. Enter the temple and try to meditate for few minutes and you will feel the difference. The temple is also an architectural masterpiece. There are four giant Gopurams and a massive temple pond. Do visit the temple at night as well to see the way lights transform the beauty to a different level. The inside of the temple is ornamented with lots of stone carvings. It's a paradise for any one who loves architectural history of India.

The Chola dynasty is famous for their rule and architecture in India. This Nataraja Temple is a fine example for that which was built in 10th century. The temple is huge and well maintained. I really admired this huge construction and aesthetic look. Visited: May 2022 Please hit the useful button if this review helps you. It motivates me to add more reviews 😊

Great temple with great architecture. You need Minimum 2 hours of time to explore everything. It’s maintained well and clean. Entire area feels sacred and positive vibes. It has four entrances and the architecture of the temple is splendid. Photography is not allowed inside the temple. The tombs , sculptures and pillars are very inspiring. This is one of the oldest temple built during Chola dynasty. One of the beautiful thing is to see the pond during evening time.

Fantastic experience ✌️ Majestic, Photogenic, Enlightening, Mystic. This is one of a kind temple in the world. It's Big, Vast, both Shiva and Vishnu can be seen, Beautiful, Majestic,... Temple history shows that this is a Temple of Sky or Space, and is very much related to Enlightenment. There were many flashes going on in mind at the time of harti/praying, not sure whether to call it as enlightenment but I surely felt it different ! Go with a pure heart, stand infront of the God for sometime, speak to Urself, manifest whatever possible. 🙏🙏

Holiest of the Holy Place. If you want to enjoy the architectural beauty stay for atleast one day and Enjoy. Wonderfully built. Though it is very difficult to maintain which is understandable more efforts can be made to make this difficult task possible.

A very authentic and old temple with lots of things to get addressed, very well maintained and light decors in the eve and night looks very beautiful. Best to have a talk between the people who work inside the temple to know many unknown facts over there happening. Must visit places in your lifetime. Try to spend some time exploring many things inside without fail. Plan in the evening to visit so that light and dark visual experience will be there. Nearby many temples are there to visit which are similar periodically and historically built. Best place to go for those who are planning for a pilgrimage trip for a couple of days also no need of prior plans since this place is easily reach and accessible.

This is one of the most powerful and divine temples I have ever visited in the whole of India. The positive vibes near the inner sanctum are very strong and you might go into trans during the time of Maha pooja and aarti. This is the only temple where you were not pushed aside while taking Darshan. You can sit as long as you desire in front of the God.You feel the live presence of Nataraja within the temple. This temple has lots of secrets and it is beyond a normal human beings conscious level to understand everything associated with the temple. You can pay some money to the Deekshithr sitting on the right side of the sanctum platform and they will take you very close to the Nataraja sanctum sanatorium. Temple is not supported by the Govt. And the Deekshithr/Brahmins here are very good. So please Dana /donation as much as possible. Also the Deekshith community is at the verge of extinction. Do take your own time to explore all the enclosures within the temple. Please do not fall for any schemes where they will tell that they are going to do pooja in your name and send the Prasad to your home address. These are few people spoiling the name of the temple. Visit Sivaganga tank and also other structures within the temple complex. Temple is open for people of all religion and caste. Chidambaram, the name of the city literally means "stage of consciousness". The temple architecture symbolizes the connection between the arts and spirituality, creative activity and the divine. The temple wall carvings display all the 108 karanas from the Natya Shastra by Bharata Muni, and these postures form a foundation of Bharatanatyam, an Indian classical dance.

Rating for places of worship may not be right. But adding more specific details about cleanliness, ease of getting the Darshan, disabled friendliness and other details might add value to others. Having said that, this is one of the Pancha Bootha sthalam of Lord Shiva which represents Sky.

1.It's not only a sacred architecture. Also thrived by blood and sweat of Cholas, Pandyas, Vijayanagar Empire, Nayakars and lot of individual efforts from invasions, Robberies. 2. Thillai was an initial capital city of cholas and this temple is chola's family deity. 3. 'Chitrambalam' means 'Atmosphere of consciousness '. 4. Thirumurai was took birth from this temple where The great raja raja chola made efforts to collect songs composed from Thirunavukarasar, Thirunana sambandhar, Sundarar, Maanika vasagar and various notable saivities by in charging Nambiyaandar nambi in his period.

Temple was quite and architectural works are marvellous. Felt very peaceful inside the temple. Could take pictures as the temple management restricted taking photographs and videos inside the temple. Many of them were taking pictures but still I don’t want to violate the rules. But still I shot some good pictures of the outside tombs.

It is one famous Shiva temple in Nataraja form. One should definitely visit once. Beautiful and peaceful ambience. The temple inside is so majestic with awe inspiring design and small temples inside. Taking photos/videos is not allowed inside the temple. There are 4 gates which welcomes us with 4 big gopurams. The place is huge to explore yet so peaceful to sit and spend time with friends/family.

A great temple built by chola dynasty during 10th century. This temple denotes the symbol of sky( pancha bootha sthalam) which represents the sky. Located in heart of town, no dedicated parking available, have to park cars on road side only. A great temple which has lord Natarajar in dancing position and also has maragathalingam which is safely protected. One should definitely visit this temple for the great architecture and the peacefulness once you enter the temple. The temple looks big, but has only few pragarams so can be easily completed soon. Definitely worth the watch- temple needs more maintenance as it's very dirty.

One of the best places to visit in Tamilnadu. The temple atmosphere is too divine and beautifully constructed. We visited this temple in Pongal. At that time it was less crowded so it was easy to see Deepa Aradhana in all Sanadhinis . We need nearly 2_3hrs to visit this temple if it's not crowded. There is One Koo Sala there. We can enter in any streets. (East/West/North/South) All the mada streets were amazing in their unique patterns. Roadside parking is available. If we plan to do dharshan in the morning we can get space for car parking.

Lord Shiva is worshipped here as Nataraja alongwith Goddess Parvati as Shivagamasundari. This temple is a Panch Mahabuta Temple (five elements) dedicated to the Air or Akasha element. It is a beautiful temple with a Mandapam which has 1,000 pillars. The temple is closed everyday in the afternoon between 12:00 pm and 5:00 pm.

One of the oldest temples in tamilnadu. It opens at 6 Am, go in the morning first to see this beautiful temple. Inside this temple we see wonderful work done by our ancestors. One of the finest architecture I have ever seen in my life. The way they worked in sculpture was amazing. It's unbelievable.

Maintenance is poor . staff strength is quite less to manage the huge temple . Only thing i see priest involved sincerly in marketing for money and no much divinity is seen here . To have closer Darshan you need to pay 100 rs for each individual for this you will not be given any receipts . Previously priests used to explain about the temple and it's attributes, origin etc. today I don't see that they are interested to provide any information even if questioned and are disinterested in everything else than making money.

Awesome spiritual experience. Large temple complex. Has 4 gates. If you go early, you will find parking on the adjoining roads. There is also a private bath and refresh facility near by, not very well kept though. Lot of adjoining restaurants. Go early to the temple, crowd will be less. There are also smaller temples around the main temple building, within the compound. Don't miss them. If you have time hire a guide (didn't find out how), and spend as much time as you want, learning about the temple, it's history, mythology and traditions.

What a peaceful place ..!! It's an memorable experience.Thillai Nataraja Temple, also referred as the Chidambaram Nataraja Temple, is a Hindu temple dedicated to Nataraja and Govindaraja, the form of Shiva as the lord of dance and Maha Vishnu as the Judge of the dance. This temple is located in Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu, India. The temple is glorified in the Naalayira Divya Prabandham, the early medieval Tamil canon of the Alvar saints from the 6th–9th centuries CE. It is one of the 108 Divya Desam dedicated to Vishnu, who is worshipped as Govindaraja Perumal and his consort Lakshmi as Pundarikavalli Thayar. This temple has ancient roots and a Shiva and Maha Vishnu shrine existed at the site when the town was known as Thillai. Chidambaram, the name of the city literally means "stage of consciousness". The temple architecture symbolizes the connection

Very old temple with grand Gopuram which is clearly evident once you enter Chidambaram. But there is lack of parking facility. Tiny narrow lane with houses on either sides. We really had a tough time parking. Also walk from the temple entrance to the main temple in the scorching heat is little daunting. So it would have been better if temple trust can plan to put carpet in places where there is no shade. After reaching main temple, there was Aarti conducted by temple priests and we got a peaceful darshan. Strongly recommend visiting this but please plan in the mornings or evenings.

(Translated by Google) When I was walking with the incomprehensible thing, the Hindu temple was a white cloth with a servant from the front. When a young Hindu monk reminiscent of John Lennon walks in, he is a little surprised to hear "Are you Japanese?" In Japanese with beautiful intonation pronunciation. He seems to be a graduate of Kyoto University. "There are some bad people in this temple, so be careful," he said. As I knew earlier, in fact, I was struck by a hungry Hindu monk who seemed to have a desire for worldly desires, but I remember thinking that he was a graduate of Kyoto University and couldn't stop. If you are interested in History, Spirituality, metaphysics and Temple architecture then you should visit Thillai Nataraja Temple. Thillai Nataraja Temple is one of the oldest Hindu shrines in the world and one of the biggest temple complex ever. The construction was done by 4 different over a period of 1000 years, dedicated to Lord Shiva, The temple has plenty of historical reverence, 12th century paintings beautifully painted on the ceilings through colors extracted from fruits!! And plenty of things which can be seen only in this temple. if possible you should hire a guide who charges a reasonable fee and takes you through the temple complex. There are restrictions in taking photos and videos in some parts of the temple but apart from that you are free to click images. Chidambaram is easily accessible through road, if you are visiting Pondicherry then it's only a 2 hours ride, from Picchavaram Mango forest its hardly 12 kilometers. What you feel when you entire the temple is something which cannot be but in words! You should be here to experience the grace and reading it through a review will only do injustice to the experice.

Showcases lord shiva in as lord of dance. This temple has deity for both shiva and vishu which can be seen standing from the same spot. Built by Chola kings in the 10th century, this private temple has amazing stone carvings, pillars and architecture. You can easily spend a day inside this temple. temple has four entrances and few entrance structures are constructed by pandia kings. The temple has a huge pond, a hall with thousands pillars, a mini entire temple constructed with only one stone, extraordinary paintings in the inside roof, a scale textured gold covered gopuram and much much more. This temple history behind it and if you are a history or art lover this temple is catch. Three temple being privately maintained and owned has exceptional maintenance and cleanliness.

Ancestral temple every one should visit. On entering divinity starts in our soul. It has 4 entrances didn't get time to explore much. Beautiful architectural monument with main god Lord Shiva as Natarajar which makes you completely get lost into the positive devotional vibes with the Pooja's made by the priests. Especially during aarthi time!! It also has a beautiful kulam where people can enjoy the view and get relaxed by the fresh air

Om Namah Shivaya! ❤️🙏 (Visited in October 2021) - Steeped in Hindu mythology & history, this temple, the place of birth of Bharatanatyam, where fine arts and spirituality coexist is dedicated to Lord Shiva as the cosmic dancer Nataraja is regarded as a Shaiva Pancha Bhoota Sthalam (Element : Ether / Sky). The temple is also a Vaishnava Divya Desam as an abode of Govindaraja Perumal. I felt awestruck & blessed!

Temple should be maintained well in terms of cleaning. Also it should NOT be commercial but focus more on proper Nithya pujas and cleanliness. One can escape greatest onslaught of Karma, by grace of Thillai Sabapathy. This kshetram is a Padal Petra Sthalam, or a place where a divine composition has been rendered by Nayanmars. Gopala Krishna Bharathi, Muthu Thandavar and MuthuSwamy Dikshidar have composed on Thillai Natarajar with consort SivaKamaSundari

Thillai Nataraja Temple, complex is spread over 50 acres in the heart of Chidambaram town. It is an ancient and historic temple dedicated to Lord Shiva Nataraja and housing a Divya Desam - Lord Govindaraja Perumal, one of the few temples where both the Shaivite and Vaishnavite deities are enshrined in one place. To the followers of Shaivism , the very word koil refers to Chidambaram. In the same way, to the followers of Vaishnavism it refers to Srirangam or Thiruvarangam. Chidambaram is one of the five Pancha bootha sthalams, each representing one of the five natural elements; Chidambaram represents akasha (aether). The other four temples in this category are: Thiruvanaikaval Jambukeswara,Trichy (water), Kanchi Ekambareswara (earth)Kanchipuram, Thiruvannamalai Arunachaleswara (fire), and Kalahasti Nathar (wind),Kalahasti. The word Chidambaram may be derived from chit, meaning "consciousness", and ambaram, meaning "sky" (from aakasam or aakayam); it refers to the chidaakasam, the sky of consciousness, which is the ultimate aim one should attain according to all the Vedas and scriptures. Another theory is that it is derived from chit + ambalam. Ambalam means a "stage" for performing arts. The chidakasam is the state of supreme bliss or aananda and Lord Natarajar is the symbolic representation of the supreme bliss or aananda natanam. Saivaites believe that a visit to Chidambaram leads to liberation.Yet another theory is that it is derived from the word chitrambalam, from chithu meaning "play or dances of God" and ambalam meaning "stage" A unique feature of this temple is the bejeweled idol of Nataraja. It depicts the Lord Shiva as the Lord of the dance Bharatanatyam and is one of the few temples where Shiva is represented by an anthropomorphic murthi rather than the classic, anionic Lingam. The Cosmic Dance of Lord Nataraja symbolises the motion of the universe as sustained by Lord Shiva. The Ananda Tandava posture of Lord Shiva is one of the famous postures recognized around the world by many. The demon under Nataraja's feet signifies that ignorance is under his feet The Fire in this hand (power of destruction) means destroyer of evil The raised hand signifies that he is the savior of all life. The Ring at the back signifies the cosmos. The drum in his hand signifies the origin of Life. This gold-roofed stage is the sanctum sanctorum of the Chidambaram temple and houses the Lord in three forms: the "form" - the anthromorphological form as an appearance of Lord Nataraja, called the Sakala thirumeni. the "semi-form" – the semi-anthropomorphological form as the Crystal linga of Chandramouleswarar, the Sakala nishkala thirumeni. the "formless" – as the Space in Chidambara Rahasyam, an empty space within the sanctum sanctorum, the Nishkala thirumeni Chidambaram also is one of the five places where Lord Shiva is said to have displayed his dance and all these places have stages/ sabhais . Apart from Chidambaram which has the Por sabhai, the others are the Rathina sabhai at Thiruvaalangadu (rathinam – ruby / red) , the Chitra sabhai at Courtallam (chitra – painting), the Rajatha sabhai or the Velli ambalam at Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple (rajatha / velli – silver) and the Thaamira sabhai at Nellaiappar Temple, Tirunelveli (thaamiram – copper). MUST HAVE DARSHAN of this great temple.
