The temple is located in Chidambaram Annamalai University Complex. Lord Shiva is said to have blessed Arjuna with Pasupatha Asthram . Hence, the Lord is named Pashupatheswar and Goddess is Sargunambal. It is one of the 274 Saivaite Thevara sthalams. Saint Sambanthar and Saint Navukkarasar have sung hymns in praise of the Lord. Bamboo is the sthala vriksham. Nataraja idol can be seen with a crown, which is a rarity. Story of the Lord transforming himself into the guise of a hunter along with Parvathi and blessing Arjuna is sculpted beautifully on the outer prakaraa pillars. A visit will ensure bliss.

After having darshan in Tyagavalli temple, we drove to this temple in Thiruvetkulam. This is the second temple in North cauvery after chidambaram temple. Went with lot of expectation about this temple, since it in chidambaram itself, and closer to chidambaram temple and also to the fact that the temple had lot of history like Saint Thiruganasambandar stayed at this temple to visit the other temples near by. But was hugely disappointed, though the temple was open, the priest was not there, so had to pray to the lord through the iron grill. Many people were visiting the temple, yet the priest was not there. Temple facing east. Rajagopuram present, kodimaram present. A good sized temple pond is present infront of the temple, though not that properly maintained. Temple fairly neat and clean. Lord faces east, Ambal faces south. Lord Name : Sri Paasupatheswarar Ambal Name: Sri Nalla Nayaki, aka Sri Sargunambal. Parking would be an issue, since there is school nearby.

This is an ancient temple where Arjuna (Pandava prince) from Mahabharatha was asked to perform penance to obtain divine grace of Lord Shiva. He performed severe penance at this place. One day, he spotted a wild boar speeding to attack him. While he shot the pig with an arrow, another hunter also claimed that he was the first to shoot the pig. A fight of superiority started between the two. Arjuna attacked the hunter with an arrow, the impact of which was felt by all beings in the world. The hunter then tossed Arjuna with his toe, who fell in Krupa Samudram. It took Arjuna time to realise that it was Lord Shiva in the form of the hunter who attacked him. Lord Shiva granted boons to Arjuna, a weapon named "Paasupatha Astra". Since Shiva granted "Paasupatha Astra" at this place, he came to be known as "Paasupatheeswarar".!

Shri Pasupatheeswarar Shiva temple is near eastern end of Annamalai University campus near Chidambaram. Less than 1/2 km from Music college. Small Shiva Linga in the main sanctum. Shri Sargunambal Amman in seperate sannidhi. Huge nagalinga tree in front of Gopuram entrance. Temple and tank requires maintenance.

Lord Siva gave Pasupadashram to Arjuna in this place. Very devotional.
