Imagine
you
book
an
appointment
with
a
senior
doctor
at
a
famous
multi-speciality
hospital
for
a
very
important
procedure,
not
exactly
surgical,
for
a
loved
one.
You
have
come
to
this
hospital
for
the
first
time,
but
your
loved
one
has
already
gone
through
the
procedure
thrice
in
the
last
three
years
at
different
locations,
so
you
can
claim
to
have
a
fairly
good
idea
what
exactly
to
expect.
The
doctor
meticulously
goes
through
all
the
case
history,
noting
all
the
relevant
facts,
enquires
about
a
few
things
and
finally
spreads
out
plan
for
the
procedure.
Since
the
ailment
involves
another
speciality
in
addition
to
the
one
for
which
the
doctor
is
being
consulted,
he
advises
to
obtain
opinion
of
the
other
specialist
before
proceeding
further
and
recommends
a
slew
of
tests,
some
to
the
point
of
absurdity.
He
finally
signs
off
asking
to
bring
in
all
diagnostic
reports
along
with
opinions
of
other
specialists.
You
follow
every
instructions
and
overcome
all
the
hurdles,
over
several
days,
to
obtain
all
the
reports,
opinions,
clearances
and
now
are
finally
ready
to
meet
your
doctor
again.
The
doctor
peruses
all
the
records
and
finally
gives
you
the
date
for
the
procedure
and
briefly
explains
the
steps
they
will
be
following
on
that
given
day
and
advises
to
get
the
patient
admitted
during
the
opening
hours
of
the
given
date.
You
now
feel
relieved
thinking
about
the
beginning
of
end
of
the
anxieties
and
countless
hours
of
worrying.
On
the
D-Day
you
arrive
early
at
the
hospital,
complete
the
formalities
at
the
Admission
Desk
and
accompany
your
patient
to
the
designated
ward.
The
nursing
staff
are
activated
on
cue
and
swiftly
begin
preparing
the
documents
and
checking
vitals,
the
RMO
visits
and
records
information
obtained
from
brief
interview
of
patient
in
case
sheet.
A
while
later
the
doctor
arrives,
your
heart
throbs,
he
again
goes
through
all
the
files
and
reports
for
the
third
time
in
second
week
and
motions
for
a
mini-procedure
before
the
actual
one,
for
what
he
claims
'ascertain
feasibility'
of
the
procedure
which,
for
the
first
time,
he
pegs
at
50%
chance
of
success.
You
start
to
smell
something
is
wrong.
After
the
mini-procedure
he
calmly
appears
and
proves
your
worst
inhibitions
to
be
true.
The
doctor,
hours
away
from
the
actual
procedure,
declares
he
is
unable
to
go
ahead
not
because
something
is
amiss
with
the
vitals
or
other
medical
reports
of
the
patient,
but
the
process
is
"too
complex
for
him"
and
that
"they
do
not
possess
specialised
instruments
needed
to
carry
out
the
procedure."
He
does
not
even
shows
the
courtesy
of
apologising
even
after
contradicting
himself
in
a
matter
of
days
and
causing
acute
physical,
psychological
and
financial
distress
to
you
and
more
painfully,
your
ailing
loved
one.
Go
to
the
place
where
the
procedure
was
last
conducted,
"theek
hai.."
were
his
last
words!
Friends,
in
the
above
story
there
is
only
one
casualty
as
I
can
see
it,
the
trust
of
us
lesser
mortals
upon
those
'superior
ones'
in
white
coats
swearing
by
the
oath
of
Hippocrates.
The
unfortunate
soul
here
is
my
ailing
father,
the
hospital's
name
is
Neotia
Getwel
Siliguri,
the
doctor's
name
is
Dr.
Md
Nadeem
Parvez
and
the
story
culminated
only
yesterday,
15th
June
2022.
