Upper-class sushi restaurant with very original menu items presented in an original way and in a classy interior. It comes with a price though as we paid over 100 EUR for a small selection of sushi's, not including wines. It's not a place to still your hunger and we left a bit hungry still. The waiters were friendly and explained the items on the menu, but I found they used overly complicated vocabulary that didn't help me choose and with a smug, arrogant attitude. I wouldn't only return for special celebrations as I love the sushi they serve, but not something I think is worth the price on a more regular basis.

I'd say we enjoy going out to eat and discover good places. And we've both traveled enough to distinguish the good from the not so good places. The experience we had at Kuma was, however, hands-down phenomenal. The place has a soothing and quiet interior. Service was very attentive, knowledgeable and kind, never obtrusive or negligent. We felt really welcome from the first minute. And the food: Awesome little bites - we opted for the tasting menu that was carefully selected by our host. Many tastebud explosions, fresh and local ingredients and creations and in the end a very satisfying quantity-quality experience were exceptional. We are extremely grateful that we found this gem. If you can: go there. If we come back to Bilbao, we will certainly not miss the opportunity to return.

I'm a Japanese in food industry. Amazed by the quality of sushi, especially tuna. Prices are increadibly reasonable for sushi on this quality, if you're familiar with sushi and it's quality.

My wife and I just had dinner at Kuma. Quality of the food is indeed very good, but in no relation to the price. Its extremely expensive for what you get in return. An example: 2 small bites of Nigri Wagyu (high end beef) at 24,20 EUR, 10 slices of salmon at 30 EUR etc. The service itself is so, so. Simply not worth it! First time, last time.

First we wanted to rate this place for only one star because the service was so bad. English menu was outdated and none of the waiters/waitresses understands nor speaks well English. They were quite rude to us and messed up our order. Luckily we were sitting in front of the chef and he saved our evening. He speaks great English and explained very well each dish to us. He also recommend us some very interesting and tasting Japanese/basque nigiri. The place is not a traditional Japanese e restaurant but you can still get very refined Japanese food. The chef is skillful with cutting the fish. You also have a quite wide choices of traditional Japanese liquors. What makes the place really interesting is the combination of Japanese and basque cuisine. For tourists we highly recommend that you ask for a seat in front of the chef so you can get a good explanation from him and get to enjoy the best Japanese restaurant in town.

The best place in town, very high quality food. Nicely decorated plates, good location and atmosphere. To see chef cooking in front of you- is another touch of excellence. Sashimi pieces- just wow, sushi rolls- super rich and wasabi made by chef is heaven! Excellent service and attention. To be booked very much in advance! Can’t wait to come back!!

We arrived without a reservation around 9.30pm to a pretty empty restaurant (could only see 4-5 tables occupied). We were told that the restaurant was full and couldn't accept us. I can't help but think that they judged us on our outfits (we'd been out sightseeing all day and were dressed casually), and lied about the restaurant being full. I hope this isn't true, but when the restaurant is 70% unoccupied and yet you are still told it's full, you can't help but wonder.

Amazing Japanese fusion cuisine. We sat at the bar because we could see the chefs preparing everything. The service was amazing and they had staff speaking English to explain the menu , because with the QR you only get a Spanish version and the printed one is pre covid. Highly recommend to book in advance Our favorites were the tuna tartar with the truffle and egg and the lobster nigiri

You can choose either traditional Japanese cuisine or basque-japanese fusion.

Just arrived in Bilbao for the weekend and our first experience was in this restaurant. I had previously seen photos of their dishes so I was looking forward for it. We didn't even need to see the menu, the service and attention made it all seem agreeable all the fishes served were fabulous and the presentation fantastic. Definitively to repeat. And we got to meet the chef Daniel a young and very nice raising star.

Came here for dinner with my friend and it was absolutely delicious. This was my first real time eating raw fish. And it was divine. We ended ordering whatever our waitress had told us to. (We fish, but no meat) and one of the rolls came out with meat on it and they exchanged it for us without hassle. I highly recommend coming here.

Fancy, elegant and tasty food. We enjoyed three kinds of oysters to start, they were a bit hit and miss. What was definitely worth every bite are the tuna tartare - either the spicy or black truffle version- and the Norwegian Salmon nigiri ! Our waitress was friendly and kind, but some of the male staff were not and looked down on their customers. Must book in advance, especially for the weekends and it only opens at 9pm, not 8pm as indicated online.

Some of the best Japanese food I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating. Prepared to perfection. Service is very attentive and competent, good pace and suggestions for wine pairings were exquisite. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Price point is very reasonable (particularly also on wines). Will definitely go back.

Best Japanese restaurant in Bilbao when it opened a few years ago. We used to be regular clients. Quality of service is not what used to be. Some dishes need a new twist. Quality and presentation of dishes is good but not top notch as years ago. I would like to see other dishes from the Japanese cuisine being offered including some hot plates. A quality teppanyaki grill will bring the experience to another level. Jon//London

👍👍 We stumbled upon this place, which is odd, because my husband is such a foodie and usually knows about every hot place. After getting off the funicular, we wandered into we saw this beautiful spot. Inside, we started researching it on our phone and saw the rave reviews--including one from Anthony...
