👍👍 We had a delicious meal here and we're accommodated despite not having reservations. For starters we ordered the asparagus which just melted in your mouth and the mushrooms. The mushrooms were incredible! The sauce was so yummy and it came with foie served on top. Some thing to watch out for of you'... We had a delicious meal here and we're accommodated despite not having reservations. For starters we ordered the asparagus which just melted in your mouth and the mushrooms. The mushrooms were incredible! The sauce was so yummy and it came with foie served on top. Some thing to watch out for of you're vegetarian. We shared the T-bone steak between the two of us and it was delicious. Served with french fries on the side. We were too stuffed for dessert.

It really lives up to the expectations!! This place came came up in absolutely all my searches and even the airbnb host recommended it. It’s an old butchers store that has a few tables in the back. I love my beef and was reluctant but the txuketa (T-bone steak) exceeded my expectations and it’s better than the bisteca fiorentina that Italians rave about in Florence, Italy. Service is very good and for this kind if place I expected to be a grumpy old man but it was a young kind guy. Had smoked salmon, padron peppers, a big steak to share (txuketa) which was really really good, one cheese cake (disappointing) and a bottle of wine. Total damage: 136 Eur

Visited Aug 4th 2016 A great, great dinner place. Definitely worth the reservation, and a later dinner. The staff was very helpful (even spoke some English :)), and paced the meal just right. I'd suggest going with a smoked/cured starter, chuleton (T Bone; if there are two or more people), and chocolate desserts. While everything was executed perfectly, two things prevent it from a five star: Fries: taste and texture worse than the store-bought ones. I'd suggest asking for something else in advance. Bread: seems like a day old, and crap to begin with. Things we ordered: Foie with apple puree and raspberry jam: beautiful, tasty (albeit the puree was a bit too sweet for my taste). Served with nice crackers. Smoked salmon: probably the best smoked salmon I had. Delicate smoke taste combined with an amazing tartar sauce and subtle olive oil. Not far short of a classic masterpiece. Chuleton: around 1.2 kilos for two hungry people. Without special order done to rare. Smoking hot, buttery sear with a warm bloody inside. If there wasn't for the fries, it would be amazing. Milhoja cake - done lovely, unfortunately not my cup of tea. Chocolate truffle cake - yes!!! Tldr. If you are in for a fine dinner in a relaxed atmosphere, definitely go for it. Ps, they take cheque gourmet :D

We came here by chance in the evening to try the traditional Basque style chuleton. We were lucky to get a table because someone else had canceled their reservation. You usually need a reservation as the restaurant is not that large. Once inside this cosy, old style family-run place we felt very comfortable, the more so as the food - especially the chuleton - was so delicious! Good wine, cider, dessert, ... what else could we wish? We'd recommend this place to everyone coming to Bilbao (if you're into beef)!

Amazing Txuleton at this old school restaurant. Ask for a hot plate to further dear your meat if you are not comfortable with the medium rare doneness

The food was excellent and perfectly representative of the region's cuisine. The decor itself is an attraction, like being in an old, cozy inn, with separate dining areas surrounded by books, wine bottles, etc. that allows for a warm ambiance, conducive for small, intimate groups or romantic couples to enjoy fine wine and delicious food. Really enjoyed the Chuleton and the desserts. Amazingly, the food I all prepared in a tiny kitchen by one chef. Highly recommend visiting if you're in the area, it's worth the effort.

Don’t recommended this place. The mushrooms were so sweet like they were doused in syrup. The egg croquettes were bland and tasteless. The women working here were all dour and seemed to hate their job. Not a great experience in a city like Bilbao you can do better.

Wish I could give it six stars! I had one night in Bilbao and I booked myself lunch here and it was fantastic. Beautiful restaurant, the meal was fantastic, and the service was warm and friendly. I had the oxtail and a salad, with a quince and cheese dessert, and it was divine.

Outstanding food and service! Took the family here. Great setting understated, but cosy. Had the smoked duck, foie and croquetas for starters - real homely food. The oxtail stew was superb and it’s not often you get a solomillo steak as good as this outside of Ireland! Fantastic selection of Riojas and traditional Basque desserts Highly recommended

this spot was so special, would absolutely recommend to anyone visiting bilbao. the food was very rich, so come with an empty stomach for sure. we had the smoked duck, the leeks, the mushroom with foie and the chuleton for three people and that was more than enough to sort you for the afternoon.

Amazing steak! Amazing (local) wine! Amazing truffles! I don’t think anybody spoke English but we communicated well enough. Everyone was very nice too.

Amazing and authentic restaurant. We initially went there to buy meat, but once arrived we decided to have lunch. The restaurant only had local people, which made it even nicer. We then shared a 1 kg T bone steak, and it was delicious!

Delicious and rather big servings. Not much English spoken, but communication was sufficient.

I read a few “foodie” reviews before coming to Bilbao, and this restaurant was highly recommended. We reserved a table, as suggested, for dinner and (given the limited seating,) I would recommend anyone wanting to dine, do the same. Trust that it is worth the trouble to bypass anything else in the area to eat here!! My husband and I spoke limited Castellano, but the staff that took care of us (one of which I believe was the owner) was amazing, and patient, and kind; and, despite their limited English, was able to communicate with us, and even make recommendations regarding wine and food…and since wine and food is why you are reading this review, trust that the food is AMAZING! I had the hake and my husband had the sirloin, and both were beyond superb. I have read that this restaurant has been family owned for over a 100 years, and I can absolutely see why they have continued to thrive. The food is SUPERB, the service is EXCELLENT, and the wine was AWESOME. This restaurant should be a “can not miss” locale if you’re coming to Bilbao.

Our first time here and I would love to come back. We had leeks, smoked salmon and egg croquetas to start, followed by sirloin and hake; accompanied by house red (rioja) and white by the glass.. it was delicious and the service was fab. Highly recommended

Excellent steak and a mesmerising historical venue. The steak was simply beautiful, great produce great flavour. I loved the sight of the chef sparkling flaky salt onto the meat that came freshly off the grill - he grabs the salt from a jar on the wall that looks antique. It is just so beautiful! Real gem.

👍👍 We stumbled upon this place, which is odd, because my husband is such a foodie and usually knows about every hot place. After getting off the funicular, we wandered into we saw this beautiful spot. Inside, we started researching it on our phone and saw the rave reviews--including one from Anthony...
