The Museum of Fine Arts is a must visit if you like classic art. The building is a classic art deco building. The numerous galleries house some of the most important works of the great Spanish artists including Goya. Take your time to enjoy the art at display. Should take about 2-3 hours. Enjoy. Do remember to take you headphones.

I really enjoyed this modern art museum. I thought the installations were provocative and evocative, disturbing, and beautiful. A real cultural gem in Bilbao.

Bilbao's "other art museum" is definitely worth a visit. Great architecture. I enjoyed the juxtaposition of old masters (including Zurbaran, van Dyck, Goya, and others) and modern art (including Victor Vasarely).

Loved the museum! It had rooms with 2 artists each in one building, where one artist was more classic and the other more modern. The main collections were also very interesting. I would expect more variety in the gift shop.

Lovely little museum with a temporarily exhibition of Milton Glaser at the time I have been there. Best things first: Entrance is free and it’s air-conditioned. (Had 39*C when visiting). Inside you find many basque painters from different epochs. My highlight was the Guernica. Just for this is worth a visit. So in total: It could have been more overall, but it’s a lovely and nice museum. I spend 1 ½h there. They do have a small museum shop and a cafe outside.

Collections like these make me realise that I am very lucky to live “next door” to the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh museum and the Frans Hals museum… Luckily it is free.

Currently, this place is undergoing renovation/expansion. The admission is free. The current collection is not very extensive or well-known, but it is still worth a see if you are in the area. Other than couple of lesser known Picasso pieces, it is mostly lesser known and obscure Spanish modern artists and classical artists. The display itself is unique in that the classical artworks are displayed side by side with the modern artworks, creating a bit of visual tension as one peruses the museum.

The museum was being refurbished when we visited so there wasn't too much to see. However entry is free during the works. We visited in August and there were very few visitors in with us. The spaces are nice and the work is varied though not spectacular. I'm not sure it's worth a visit while so few rooms are open even though it's free.

One of the must see museums in Bilbao. A lot of quality art works if not all actually. Plus be aware there is a lot to see! I went to see a contemporary art exhibition and it was a nice balance between everything else displayed, I suppose, permanently.

Instead of displaying their permanent collection by years/style, they organized by the "ABC'S" with each letter standing for a theme represented by the art on display. This is the first time I've been to a museum that does this. I liked that I was able to see sharp contrasts across history with how certain topics were represented. You could also see some similarities as well. I wish I had gotten an audio guide because it might have helped connect the historical periods and the artists better than I could. Definitely go! I recommend enjoying the tree filled park situated next to the museum.

Beautiful museum. Their permanent collection is quite interning and attractive as they have not only fine arts but also have historical arts. Recommend place if you come over to Bilbao and love art.

This place is incredible, art from all times and diffrent styles. You can loose yourself for hours in the diffrent worlds of diversity and artists. It's a pleassure for your eyes. I've been to the guggenheim and honestly I prefer this one more! But they're both musea of the highest quality. The best thing of all: I could take pictures here as much as I want, compared to the guggenheim were it is forbidden... A well deserved 5 stat rating!

The place is exceptional with arts categorized according to a theme rather than time of the pieces or the artists. The audio is also available in many languages and the place was full of great pieces of art. A must visit place.

A nice place to visit on the Museum Tour through Bilbao. The works are grouped by style and creator, with supporting information available in Euskara, Spanish and English for each piece. There's also an audio guide to listen to directly from your mobile phone. There's not a lot of direction on what to see in which order; we finished with the exhibition on art restauration on the ground floor and found this to be a very nice summary / conclusion of our visit to the museum. Highlights of our visit were the comparison of "commissioned works" from Goya and Glaser and the above mentioned exhibition on restauration.

A pearl When you are in Bilbao to visit that other museum, and are disappointed by the G , this will pick you up. A masterful collection of spanish art. We were blown away, by the collection and some of the really rare and old paintings on display. A must see .

Interesting collection of Basque artists and some pieces of international artists (Gaugin, Van Dyck). Free of charge. The descriptions are in Spanish and Basque only, you can read them in English on the museum’s website (available under a handy QR code in the exhibition).

Worth popping in. Free and currently under refurbishment so about 8 rooms, 4 of which are filled with an inflated black and white plastic installation. Paintings from different eras and an interesting collection of Bilbao photographs.

As the place with the second best collection of classical art in Spain, it is definitely a must if you're already visiting the Guggenheim. The museum also offers excellent information material and maps, which made getting around a breeze. They also have free admission for anyone under 25, which is a plus.

A very good selection of Spanish art that gives a nice overview of the development and different movements that ruled the arts from around 1340 until present day. Free if you are under 25 and don't forget to pick up the '110' guide that features elaborate explanations of the art pieces on when, by whom and how they were made, and highlights the art movements that have inspired it.

Very good muesem, the whole experience is a lot more fun if you go in with a friend and make a game of who is the most attractive from the paintings in the room. I would have given the place a 5 star review but there needs to be definite changes to the security in the museum, there is no reason I can warrant being greeted by a man with a holistered revolver. And the people in the room would just walk Infront of your field of veiw while looking at paintings, incredably distracting in a place of art where you should be emersed in the work, but the security are trying to make their presence so known that it honestly puts you on edge as if you had done something wrong by being there and it takes away from the experience. Price range is incredable also, up until you are 25, or a student or unemployed or over 66 it will be free, and if you do have to pay it's only 5 euro. It's not something to be missed in bilbao if you are in anyway artistically driven.

The museum doesn’t expose all the paintings because of restauration works (should be over by 2019 or 2020), but we saw a couple of very nice ones. What I really appreciated is that there is a booklet with a history about every painting there. Very helpful! I also liked a nice terrace where you can have a coffee.

It's a fantastic 600 years of art, from the wonderful experience of the Two dimensions neoclásico art, into the three dimensions of the Renaissance, and the beauty of la belle Époque, to arrive to the already classic modernist, Picasso, Mondrian and others. Has it all, paint, sculpture, marble, bronze, jewelry and decorative art.

Nice museum, especially liked the permanent exhibition with alphabetical but not chronological order. Very refreshing. Be aware that the museum closes its permanent exhibition between 14:00 and 16:00 (2 pm and 4 pm), staff begins to vacate the halls 15 minutes before. I found the exhibitions in this museum way more interesting than the ones in Guggenheim which I visited on the same day.

This is a great museum, creatively arranged paintings and sculptures.... alphabetically from A to Z. For example there is one room based on F for Family, another on H for House. This means that paintings old and new, and of different artists are displayed together in refreshing combinations. It took us an hour and a half to go round but you could take longer.

Under rennovation just now but it was free entry and certainly worth a visit. The free lockers are helpful (once you notice the instructions for using them). Almost none of the visitors were wearing masks, but the rooms are large the exhibits are well spaced out. A bit better than my Guggenheim experience, I was also disappointed here. A dearth of well known art or artists, some El Greco, a few Degas and Gauguin pieces, and a very nice Mary Cassatt, but not a single Renoir, Monet, Lautrec, Van Gogh, or Manet in sight. I love the impressionists and neo-impressionists as well as Rembrandt and a few others, so I was quite bored. The map they gave me had little information and was totally useless, so I had to explore on my own and it is possible that I missed some rooms or artworks. I hope so. Not a big museum, it will take an hour or two at most, even if you like the collection they have on-hand. CombatCritic Gives Museo Bellas Artes de Bilbao 5 Bombs Out Of 10 ... More Bombs Are Better!

For me, the Museum of Fine Arts is one of the best cultural sites that you can visit here in Spain. It has many works, especially paintings. It is a very large space, with different rooms in which the works of art are located. The museum is also in a very good area to visit different places when you finish there since it is close to many other tourist places such as the Guguenheim. Recommended if you have time to go.

The museum of modern art in BiIbao Last week we visited the modern art museum in Bilbao with our school and I would like to make the following comments about our experience. On the plus side, I found the museum interesting as the pictures were very varied and well presented. In addition, the museum is very well located in Bilbao city centre. Moreover, the price is not very expensive so it is affordable for students. On the negative side, the museum didn't offer an audio- guide system so the visit was a little boring and difficult to follow. Additionally, there was some construction work in the museum, as a result, there were some pictures missing. All in all, I found the benefits greater than drawbacks so I recommend the museum to people Who enjoy art.

Nice museum. Unfortunately, it is in the middle of a large renovation so only part of the exhibition is available. However, because of this there was no entrance fee, which was nice.

Absolutely love it. Using a web guide for other translations of the description, providing more depth to the exhibition. Would be perfect if those are available in audio form as well.

As there was no entrance fee I can't really complain but this gallery can be a bit hit and miss. It tries to cover all epochs but is a tad thin on works to do so. Amongst them there's some uninspiring modern art which perhaps could be moved to the Guggenheim. However it does display some excellent pieces and you certainly aren't overwhelmed by the sheer volume of the collection, like in grander museums. The highlights for me were the Zurbaran, El Greco and Sorolla (pictures attached). There are also a few eye catching Basque art decos and an interesting take on Picasso's Guernica.

The place itself is amazing, and the way the collection is cured is very interesting. I really enjoyed observing older and newer artists in the same room and the various mediums they display. It's not too large so it's not exhausting. Had a great time! I think you're not allowed to take pictures so I didn't take any, tho I may be wrong about this. My favorite piece was: Luis Paret - Vista de Bermeo, it's insanely detailed and I lost myself in it. Second floor to the right, if you only see 1 thing let it be that one, really check it out! Free entrance but do reserve tickets online just in case.

Entrance was free when we visited (July '23) maybe because part of the museum was undergoing major modernisation.. Still a very nicely curated & compact but eclectic collection with some very good works. Initially we were a bit disappointed to see only Basque/Spanish descriptions of the art, but after a while we discovered that there is a QR code in each room that gives you access to an excellent multilingual PDF about the works/artists! ...they should make this more clear, or maybe we were a bit slow that day ;-)

It's undergoing major works, so I think the full range of exhibits was not available and probably the reason that entry was free.

Some of the recent reviews of this museum are unfair. The museum is going through a massive renovation and expansion project. They have done a wonderful job of presenting art in a different way, juxtaposing classical artists against modern artists in each room. The explanations via QR code are detailed and you are drawn to spend time with the few pieces in each room. The “garbage bags” exhibit is an installation by Sergio Prego and was created to make use of the space while under renovation. This museum is absolutely worth a visit, especially since it is FREE during the expansion project.

Absolutely delightful! The staff was incredibly friendly. I loved the collection, blending classical and modern art, including photography and at the time of my visit there was also a video installation. The ticket was free. The museum was refreshingly uncrowded, allowing for a peaceful exploration of the exhibits. Additionally, the on-site shop was a hidden gem, offering an beautifully curated books and souvenirs at surprisingly affordable prices. A must-visit!
