It's pretty good, very old, some great history and fits in so well with modern life. As part of the old town, it's surrounded by history like the Catedral de Santiago - shown in the pics attached.

Beautiful and charming square with many restaurants, a great place to sit down or stand with a glass of wine and some pintxos, the biggest problem will be which place to choose so maybe try a couple.

A popular square and architecturally splendid. Like all such places tend to get busy. Would prefer outside seating etc a little cleaner and staff dressed smarter perhaps in more local dress? Prices on par with elsewhere in the city, ie good 👍

Great place to eat pintxos (tapas) gets very busy so depends whether your happy to stand and eat and choose different tapas or there are also restaurants you can sit down around the plaza. Be aware they are strict on times and serving food so leave with time. Real sense of Bilbao and great atmosphere. Excellent area to eat lunch or dinner.

Great location, ate & drank in two places here. Bit pricey but nothing too bad. Only issue being all the kids being allowed to play football in the centre, at one point they even hit a woman at one of the bars, smashing glasses and plates.

Had a coffee here in this lovely square and watched some interesting people. A small four piece band added some tunes. A group of French people were painting the ornate front of the café we were sitting in. An artist came up and randomly drew a likeness of my husband!

Another lovely Spanish square, lots of sun, bars, and places to eat. We stopped to have a bite to eat at one of the many cafes around this beautiful plaza.

Be aware of carbon monoxide poisoning at this place. We arrived at the mention around 11:00 pm. We were looking for a bottle of water to take medicine. Good thing that I found a bar, where I was able to buy water. After spending one night both of us felt headache, dizziness, weakness, vomiting, and confusion. But we were able to go on a walking tour. Next day we had to cancel all our tours because of our condition. I called the host to see if we could have a late checkout because we could not go anywhere and our bus was leaving in the evening. They told us that we needed to make a new reservation, which I did. In Madrid we stayed at a beautiful hotel and for extended checkout they charged us only 40 euros, here we had to pay 125.00 euros, but on their reservation page they promised complementary drink. I don't think I have to explain there were no drinks. But our condition was getting worse. I opened a window and felt that we were breathing air with elevated monoxide level. The level of noise outside was around 48 decibels, because this square has 8 or 9 beautiful restaurants on the first floor. Locals come all day long to have a drink and food. I don't know that Is wrong with that room where we stayed, but I have a suspicion that carbon monoxide detectors either not working or missing. For us that was terrible experience

I visit yearly and never disappointed, what a fantastic setting to eat and drink, the South has nothing to match it. Unfortunately we missed Sundays market as we were flying home.

Classy confluence to sit, sip, watch the locals enjoying their Galacian lives. I can only offer the following whisper of an envious sigh

A totally surprising urban space, a 19thC form of elite apartments, with a central colonnaded square. Interesting in terms of architecturally and urban-planning. Very active space. I've seen similar more recent examples of this design theme in Bangalore, but none in Canada.

The Plaza Nueva or Plaza Barria of Bilbao is a monumental square of Neoclassical style built in 1821. Its name comes from the previously existing Plaza Vieja or Old Square in the place where the Ribera Market was built. The square is enclosed by arcaded buildings and accessed by arches known as cuevas.

A great place to stop and have some 'Pinxos', right in the heart of Bilbao's historic centre, there's a good atmosphere and lots of bars, although it gets busy at peak times and you may have to wait in line for a table.

Really nice square in the old town of Bilbao. Good to take a rest or enjoy a drink with the local delicious 'pinchos'

Pintxos, tapas, wine and beers and that's not all. Loads of different bars to try and a lovely communal atmosphere. If you're not in Bilbao for long this is a great place to get a feel for this lovely city..
