Amazing hotel, location and service! Others are right that this feels like 5 star hotel. Breakfast buffet was amazing from 7-11am. We got upgraded as Marriott titanium elite. Also got welcome gift in room, some macarons, fancy water and a certificate for 2 drinks at the Terence bar. Would come back if ever in Bilbao

Extremely dissappinting stay, unfortunately. The airconditioning is broken in most of the rooms (at least the 3 we were offered), and management seems unwilling to help the staff arrange repairs / replacements. I had planned to stay for 3 nights but left after 1 (which I have never done before) - with the current heatwave, sleeping in 28°C+ temps in the room is not pleasant and we had someone enter the room while showing in the morning without knocking. There are much better alternatives in Bilbao for less, and this is absolutely not worthy of the Autograph Collection label. The location is great, though, and the staff tried to be helpful (I feel for them - to be fair - given they were not empowered to fix the issues and were receiving lots of complaints from guests). The airconditioning issue seems to have been an ongoing issue caused by a lack of investment.

Good hotel. Highlights are the smart roof terrace and some of the premium rooms (in the style shown in my video/pics). Other premium rooms feel too sparsely furnished/furniture too small for the room - a little more thought was needed. Location is great.

Great beds. Awesome breakfast. Kind and professional staff... quiet and clean rooms...did I mention the beds and the breakfast?? Terrace Bar with lunch and dinner possibilities, and great music (sometimes rooms come with a free-drink voucher). Bathrobes, fluffy and soft towels. Quality toiletries...and did I mention awesome beds??

I had a reservation for three nights, but left after the first night as the accomodation was so poor. The air conditioning system in the hotel is not functioning, including in some common areas (e.g. at the breakfast buffet). Staff in the hotel are not able to resolve this and hotel management appears unwilling to have the system fixed or replaced. Staff were as helpful as they could be and offered us a few different rooms, but confirmed that the problem is across the whole hotel. The rooms themselves are really dated and not at the standard expected for an Autograph collection property.

Extremely friendly staff the hotel is in a great location, walkable to everything 20 minutes to the furthest Guggenheim museum. Recommend getting the largest nicest room that has a great shower with a wood floor. You could fit 10 people in it. My only complaint is about myself I might’ve felt a bit too warm and I never asked to have the air conditioner looked at but other than that it was perfect. I have a rooftop deck and Bar and they have a lobby bar and they have breakfast lunch on the second floor Buffay style everybody is very accommodating. Nice lady at the front desk actually spent 15 minutes on the phone with the cab company trying to find my cellular phone that I left in the taxi 👍🤠

This is a luxurious suite with very pretty details. Other big plusses are the extremely good options for breakfast and the rooftop bar

Location with a retro touch - Hotel Ercilla is in the heart of Bilbao, steps away from endless food, shopping and service offerings. The interior of the hotel and the rooms exudes glitzy fashion of the 70’s. Two added bonuses at the Ercilla are the rooftop bar that serves local favorites and a well-equipped gym. Hotel Ercilla made a very positive impression with spaciousness in the lobby, the room and the gym, which is true luxury in the city center. The “vintage” room was extremely comfortable, equipped with coffee maker, safe, desk and large walk-in closet. Convenient, comfortable, welcoming with amenities made my stay at Hotel Ercilla most memorable.

I am a frequent traveler and for sure this hotel is one of the best I have been in. Great location, super friendly staff (they go the extra step), nice rooms with great bed, breakfast is delicious and huge variety and finally La terraza bar on top floor was my favorite place to end my day with the fantastic overlooking views. Best in Bilbao and highly recommended

A centrally located exclusive hotel. Very Profesional staff!! The top terrace is quite spectacular.

Lower your expectations, except for attitude through the roof. The tourist hype surely keeps the place alive, which should otherwise be revamped at least management wise. Most of the rooms and service leave a lot to be desired for a hotel at this category and that price.

It was one of the best hotel experiences I had. The location, staff, rooms, breakfast, and la terraza bar are all super great and more over a nice comfort bed

Ercilla de Bilbao is one of the best hotels I stayed in! I was so well received by the staff, they are really helpful and kind. All food was delicious, from the buffet breakfast to the brunch, and the rooftop bar has the best vibe. The room had a really nice view over Bilbao. The hotel also has a fitness center. Location is great too. I hope to return to Ercilla!

One of the best hotels I have stayed in in the last 2 months travelling around Spain and Portugal. It's a Marriott chain hotel even though that is not in the name. I was surprised by that. The breakfast buffet is easily the best I have eaten in ever. Well placed, close to restaurants and easy walking distance to train, bus stations and the Guggenheim.

Good hotel, fantastic breakfast buffet, kind and helpful staff. Rooms are not as crisp as you would like it. Our AC was not powerful enough to properly cool the room.

The most positive thing about this hotel is the location. It's damn right in the centre of the city with every major activity in a walking distance. The service of the staff is also quite prompt and friendly. But that's about it. It is a pretty run down property on the inside and rooms are alarmingly small. I felt very ripped off on the prices, since I was expecting standards at the usual Marriott 4-star properties level but ended up in a room where the air-conditioning never worked (in the sweltering summers of Bilbao) and I kept hitting myself in the foot because the room was so abysmally tiny.

Good hotel in a great location. We had a one bedroom “suite” on the 11th floor which was nice but the “queen” bed was made up of two mattresses and the frame was noisy. Furthermore, on one of the windows the shades didn’t close completely so it was light early morning. And finally, it can tend to be very noisy due to the proximity to the center and the bar on the 11th floor but perhaps other rooms are less so. Overall though it was a good experience.

Beautiful social areas and bedrooms, in a very central location. Watch the sun set in the lovely rooftop bar while enjoying a cocktail or two, as the city lights up like Rio, and make absolutely sure to get up the following morning in times to enjoy breakfast there. Seriously, it's probably the best hotel buffet breakfast of any 4 star hotel I've stayed in, ever. Close to shopping and dining options galore, it's also less than ten minutes drive to the main bus/train stations if Bilbao is only one step in your journey. Incredibly friendly, courteous and knowledgeable staff, they made the stay exceptional.

Excellent, friendly welcome from the staff who were also very helpful finding me a taxi for a group of 6. Room and bed comfortable if not big but the breakfast was one of the best I've had at a hotel in Europe recently. Recommend this hotel for it's central location and access to pretty much everything on central Bilbao.

Really nice hotel, even though you can see it’s an old building, it is very nicely renovated. The location is really good, walking distance to everything as well as next to a metro. Neighborhood is really nice too. The staff was amazing, basically anyone we have interacted with was very helpful and friendly. Highly recommended for a couple of nights!

  • 5/5 Van Z. 5 months ago on Google
Very good and useful location of the hotel. You can reach all the points of the city easily from there. Breakfast consists of American pancakes and waffles. 🧇 Orange juice is real juice. Blurred eggs were too blurred and not by standard. Staff was helpful and supportive. Active and well equipped fitness centre in the hotel.

First night was fine. Nice rooms. Very luxurious. Staff very friendly. Second night was terrible! Racket from people in an adjacent room kept me up all night! I telephoned front desk and was told they would investigate and noise still continued until just after 2:30 am. I explained that I had an early flight, was getting up at 3:30am and nothing was done. I am now waiting to embark on 18 hours of travel to return to the US with no sleep. Very unsatisfied with the response to my issue.

We were unlucky to visit when the air conditioning was broken. We were offered a fan in the room which was fine for when we were in bed, but didn’t help with the other parts of the room including the bathroom which was unbearable. We were offered a discount and free breakfast which was great but didn’t really make up for the overall uncomfortableness experienced during the stay, including in the common areas such as the lifts. However, the staff (overall) were good (especially in the breakfast room) and the breakfast buffet was very good with lots of choice - we were even offered takeaway drinks and boxed which was a brilliant touch. We probably wouldn’t stay again.

The hotel offers a commodious room equipped with a range of amenities. Situated in the heart of the city, its staff exhibit a commendable level of friendliness and helpfulness. The rooftop terrace provides an excellent space for relaxation following a lengthy stroll along the Camino, while the breakfast buffet proves to be a delightful experience. The buffet team displays attentiveness and affability. Additionally, a takeaway box option was graciously extended for brunch.

Good location but air conditioning not working. Booked thru booking.com so no recourse as hotel mentioned they cannot do a refund - was only told they would try to fix the air con ASAP. Hotel could have been more forthcoming to email guests before hand if air con (which is critical) isn't working throughout the hotel. Book at your own risk if you do not need air conditioning.

We didn't stay at the hotel, but we visited the rooftop bar. Although it was pretty expensive - the cocktails were very good, and the staff was absolutely great. The view is spectacular.

Great hotel with super nice staff. An amazing rooftop with wonderful drinks. Our dog Jeffie was very welcome. The rooms are spacious and the bed super! The best oysterbar and wine bar are just around the corner. Great location to discover Bilbao!

This is one of my favorite Marriott hotels in the world. It is super classy! The café restaurant lounge area behind the reception is absolutely beautiful the rooftop bar has an awesome view and the rooms are spacious and clean. Love it!!!

Nice hotel in an excellent location if you want to walk around the city. Checked in at around 12:40 and it was a bit slow to check in. Meals were good. Underground car park for a limited number of cars available.

The location is perfect, right in the city centre. The hotel is recently renovated and looks very nice, great modern vintage design and the superior room we got had a great sitting area in the window where you look watch the life outside, super cozy, comfortable and original. The bed was large and very comfortable as well. Our check in and check out was not as smooth as we would like. I got a room card twice that didn't open the room I was given and later they figured out the room was occupied. Then probably because of this in my Marriott application the booking was changed and was divided my booking into two - one under another name! When we addressed this at the reception they deleted the first booking but then the number of days was not correct. Overall this took unnecessary time from our holidays but can be understood as they are new with Marriott and they systems I guess. They offered a compensation of free soft drinks during our stay which I consider fair. Other less positive things I would highlight is the overall low quality and cheap finishings. I really like the interior design but the furniture seems very cheap and not suitable for heavy hotel use. Considering it was just renovated, you could already see things being affected which is a pity. Overall I would say good value for money especially because of great central location and overall comfortable room.

Hotel was quite nice, room was spacious, breakfast was very good. Unfortunately the air con never managed to get the room temperature below 25.5 degrees Celsius (outside weather was between 25-40 degrees). Location is quite good, my room was quiet, with a view to a school’s courtyard with playing kids. My room offered a separate walk-in shower that was bigger than some other hotel’s bathrooms. Minor service failures, such as ordering a bucket of ice that never arrived and ordering toothpaste in the late evening that was delivered in the morning instead. Overall, I would recommend the hotel and will stay here again.

This is truly the best hotel in Bilbao. It should be a 5 star! The rooms are cozy, quiet and have everything you may need, inclusing a wonderful walk-in shower. The staff goes the extra mile to please the guests. They have a lovely cocktail bar at the rooftop with delicious cocktails! Really worth it!

We had a lovely stay at the Ercilla. They allowed us to stay to stay with the dogs which was nice. The beds were comfy and spacious rooms/toilet. The only thing I would say would be: 1) Lack of reception staff, we waited 40 minutes to check-in as there was only 1 desk open. 2) The roof top bar has amazing views, but don't go if you're in a hurry.... They had very slow service. 3) We stayed overnight (1-night) and the following morning after a walk around Bilbao the entire floor has the room keys wiped. Massive queues to re-do the key card!!! 4) We couldn't park anywhere close and ended up having to walk 25mins to the car. Other than that, thank you!

I needed to get a covid test to come back to the States. It was the last day before doing away with that requirement. Anyway, the wonderful young woman at the concierge desk contacted a clinic and 10 minutes later I got my test done. Walking distance from the hotel and on a Saturday! Thank you nice girl.

Everything is usually impeccable. This time, arrival with an upgrade to a JS room with view of the inner courtyard. They had an event on the first floor, and after sitting down for breakfast and waiting for a while watching the service come and go, I left with the menu on the table and a glass of water. It wasn't so hard to say that they didn't have time with the event and couldn't attend to everyone, so no one wasted time. I go up to the breakfast buffet on the 1st floor and they offer me some fried eggs, I ask for scrambled eggs, but they tell me that the scrambled eggs have to be the prepared ones, so 17 euros breakfast for a toast, tea and a bowl of fruit. In the impeccable there is always room for improvement. Edited: I'm still waiting for the customer service feedback... rated now to 1/5.

Beautiful hotel in a great, central location. Very friendly and helpful staff too. I intended to use the gym every day, but the bed was too comfy! Try the rooftop bar and restaurant too. Highly recommended to stay here.

This is an incredible place. Rooms are nice. Really clean. But, the best is breakfast. Lots of choices. Excellent quality of food. Great service.

Old style hotel with a good location. The rooms are spacious and the bed comfortable. Unfortunately they still use carpet instead of wooden floors, and these are not so clean. The WiFi is terrible, it disconnects constantly and the speed is very slow. The elevators are old, small and slow, sometimes you have to wait quite a long time to catch one. The terrace is nice with good views, but the food and the cocktails are below average, if you want to visit keep it simple: beer or wine.

  • 5/5 Daniel H. 1 year ago on Google
We told them that we'd arrive at 9am and our room was ready! Also otherwise super friendly and helpful receptionist and concierge. Nice rooftop bar. Quite good location, 10 minutes from Guggenheim, 15 minutes to old town (both by foot). Metro station nearby.

  • 4/5 Ahmed H. 1 year ago on Google
Very good quality hotel. Room we received was nice and spacious, it had very good amenities. Shower head was broken though. Good location in Bilbao close to everything major. Rooftop terrace has great views and is ideal for a sundowner cocktail. Staff in general were not very friendly or helpful.

The hotel is great! Staff at the reception desk is welcoming and exceptionally kind. The rooftop is stunning, however, the manager of the rooftop restaurant, Maria, is exceptionally rude! I do not think I have experienced this kind of treatment at any hotel nor restaurant so far. We are staying at the hotel (and Bonvoy ambassadors). We went up to the rooftop and asked if we could sit outside. She said “no” and turned away and continued working. Then we asked if we could reserve for later, she again said a short “no” and left us alone. We then asked why we couldn’t and she then explained that she was busy and had lots of work to do and that “customers aren’t always right”. We understand that people can sometimes get overwhelmed with the busy time during summer but that is not an excuse to lose your customer service attitude… otherwise, I would suggest you look for a job somewhere other than hospitality if you cannot provide proper customer service especially as the manager of the establishment.

I wasn't sure what to expect when we stayed here but we were blown away. The service was fantastic and the room we had was wonderful. If you visit make sure to check out the fabulous roof top deck. The view is great and the drinks are also great. We look forward to someday returning to Bilbao and this hotel will be central to that plan.

Beautiful place to spend couple days of holidays. We had room 009, which is very comfortable with a stunning view, you have to try their Michelin starred restaurant if you are lucky enough to get a booking. Wine tasting offered by the hotel and spas were also excellent.

This is a very good hotel. The rooms are attractive, clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet serves a good selection, and they will offer to make you an omelette, or eggs any way you like. The location in Central Bilbao is excellent. Great shopping, restaurants, museums and other cultural attractions around the hotel or nearby. Most of all, the staff are so welcoming, kind and accommodating. I must mention Ines at the front desk, and Jesus the bellman. Actually, it has been my experience at the Hotel Ercilla that all of the staff are are truly professional in the way they interact with guests, and perform their duties. Top notch all around. This reflects very well on the management. Thank you for making me feel 'at home'.

Can’t say enough good things about this hotel in the center of Bilbao. Perfect location for EVERYTHING, even to take the metro 2 mins away to visit the northern end of the city where the sea embraces the mountains. The bed is so comfortable that I don’t feel at all the fatigue from previous days. The breakfast is one of the best I’ve had. The staff provide top notch service and are always efficient and welcoming. Tried also the gym which is spacious and well equipped. Autograph collection is generally quite good in Spain and elite members are taken good care of. All in all, don’t hesitate to stay here whenever you visit Bilbao.

Had an absolutely lovely experience. We needed to stay an extra night, and they were able to combine reservations and upgraded us to a suite. The staff is extremely helpful. The hotel is in a perfect location for exploring the city center or catching a train to the surrounding region.

Great hotel placed in the centre of Bilbao. Had a great stay at Hotel Ercilla, the hotel has a great look and feel, with some nice rooms, a great bar at the ground floor and an amazing rooftop bar. The staff is very friendly and helpful, with a great attention to detail. A great hotel option if you are visiting Bilbao!

Took us a few turns to find, but once we entered were greeted warmly from all the staff at the hotel. Our room wasn't quite ready so enjoyed a complimentary drink at the bar. Only waited about 45 minutes, really just nice to relax. Then onto our room which was super spacious and clean. Only hotel that offered a 'real bathtub' plus a walk in shower in our two week travels. Breakfast was plentiful and good. Location was ideal, could walk to old town, Guggenheim, Funicular, as well as Fine Art Museum in minutes. No need to take transportation. Would definitely stay here again if in the area.
