First among the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva. Wonderful temple next to Arabian sea west coast. Somnath is well connected with railways & roadways nearby airport is Diu 80km approx. Somnath trust also provides accommodation that is within walking distance from the temple. Digital gadgets are not allowed inside the premises, there is a digital locker facility right at the entrance of the temple. Gujarat tourism & Somnath trust a well-maintained temple and provided very easy access to needful facilities.

Very beautiful Template. Very well managed & architecture. Management inside the temple is not at all disciplined & send everyone at a time create unnessary crowded. Temple has very strict security & do not allow to carry mobile, any electric items, leather bag, leather belt etc. Its better to kept only cash & other things to be kept in locker room. Laser show is very beautiful & very well explained the history of Somnath.

A great historical site to visit. The place is clean and well laid out. There is plenty of parking. The approach is clean and signage good. If you are a believer than you can visit the temple. You can take the ocean walk round the perimeter of the temple with great views of the temple and sunset. You can also walk the other way to the beach and the Triveni Sangam.

One of the best experience visiting this majestic temple. It’s truly a blessed feeling to be here. The temple being so close to the Arabian Sea makes the experience truly awesome. While taking Darshan you can feel some inner feeling which has a calming influence. Important point to note is that you will need to deposit your belongings like purse , leather items and mobiles in the lockers before entering the temple. Same goes for footwear too.

Shorts are not allowed here and any electrical gadgets including the Key of your car are prohibited here. Lights and sound shows the ticket counter starts after 5:30 you can buy in the temple. Great view must visit.

▪️The Somnath temple (also known as the Deo Patan) located in Prabhas Patan in Veraval in Saurashtra on the western coast of Gujarat, India ▪️According to tradition, the Shivalinga in Somnath is the first among the 12 jyotirlingas in India, where Lord Shiva is believed to have appeared as a fiery column of light. The jyotirlingas are taken as the supreme, undivided reality out of which Lord Shiva partly appears. Each of the 12 jyotirlinga sites take the name of a different manifestation of Lord Shiva. At all these sites, the primary image is a lingam representing the beginning-less and endless stambha (pillar), symbolizing the infinite nature of Lord Shiva.

The temple is well managed, neat and clean. You will get positive vibes as soon as you enter temple premises. Mobile phones are not allowed inside, you will need to keep it in temple lockers which is chargeable. There is a telescope available to see the other "Shivalinga" which is near to the beach.

This temple is regarded as one of the most important Jyotirlinga because of all the sacrifice people made to keep it intact from the Mughal dynasty. The place is located just aside to the Sea so the view is magnificent. On the festive season it will take minimum 40-60 minute to get the Darshan, while on normal time, it will be much quicker. However the Government have ruined the place by building up a boundary between Sea & the temple (Commercialization of even viewing the Sea) and you can no more access the Sea as it was before. Even though must visit this place!

This is a really pretty place. You can see the Jyotirlinga inside the temple without too many people around. I suggest going during the day, and there's a cool light and sound show in the evening. Don't worry about big crowds; they manage it well, so it's usually 30-45 minutes. It was clean, and the people there were friendly and helpful. The temple felt calm, and I really liked it. The buildings and surroundings were cool. I want to go there again. But there are some rules: You can't bring car keys, digital watches, wallets, purses, bags, phones, or shoes. The temple has a place to leave these things. Only small purses are allowed, and there's a free stand for shoes inside. There are Prasad counters outside, and if one is busy, just go to another one. If you're not sure, ask a security person or someone from the temple for help.

One of those holy places which will cut you from the real world issues and will take you closer to the almighty! First Jyotirling of the world and have an amazing story attached with it related to Som (moon). The temple is gigantic and the contrasting colours make the vibes even more soothing! There will be rush most of the times here, but you’ll experience something great for sure.

one of the major Shiva temples in the country considered to be one among the first 12 jyothirlinga shiv temple. Located in Saurashtra on the western coast of Gujarat. The temple was destroyed many a times by the Muslim emperors that ruled India and was last reconstructed in 1951 as part of an understanding that was reached between the Hindu majority of the area and the Indian political leaders back during the time of independence in order to join the Indian union as opposed to the decision of the then ruler of the area decided to cede to and join Pakistan. This is a Well maintained Temple with a lot of greenery at the seashore of Arabian sea.Drinking water and toilets are available... Baggage Counters , Shoe counters are available.

Shri Somnath Mandir Located in Prabhas Patan in Veraval, Gujarat, Somnath is 1st among 12 Jyotirlingas. Temple has been looted, destroyed 17 times & reconstructed 18 times. Today Somnath temple stands in its full glory inspiring us showing the power of our culture. Story of the temple is related to Chandra Deva who married 27 daughters of Daksha Prajapathi, but he took care of Rohini ( One among them) more. Daksha cursed Chandra to lose his brightness. Chandra came here & prayed to Paramashiva. Pleased with him, Mahadev blesses Chandra. Mahadev relieves Chandra from his curse. Brahma asked Chandra to construct a temple for Paramashiva, and Chandra is said to have constructed the Somnath Temple. This is why, Paramashiva is worshipped as Somnath (Deva of Soma or Chandra). ॐ नमः शिवाय। ଓଁ ନମଃ ଶିବାୟ। Om Namah Shivaya 🙏🕉🙏

Somnath jyotirling is 1st Jyotirling of India and first of it's kind. You can enjoy there with your family and loved ones. Just keep in mind that you have to book hotel rooms in advance to avoid wastage of time when you visit there. Early in the morning there is less crowded , so you can have positive vibes in the temple area with your family. Another thine I want to describe here that at the entry you have to submit your mobile phones, so provide your contact details with small children means in case of missing, it will be easy to find. The night view is so beautiful and heartwarming. Jay Somnath🙏🏼⛳

Beautiful temple. Shame was not able to take pictures on the ground as cameras and smart watches are not allowed . However can take outside the boundary. Take your time to enjoy the beautiful temple, surroundings grounds an excellent sea views. Light show is in the evening is chargeable entrance ticket. The temple was not lit up in the evening as was hoping to see these. Please avoid donating large amounts of money to the temple. Better to feed the poor outside.

If you're seeking an enchanting spiritual journey, a visit to the Somnath Temple is an absolute must. Located in the serene coastal town of Somnath, Gujarat, this ancient temple holds a rich history and an aura of divine tranquility. As you approach the temple, the first thing that strikes you is its imposing structure against the backdrop of the endless sea. The rhythmic sound of waves crashing against the shore adds to the sacred atmosphere, creating a surreal experience that stays with you long after your visit. Stepping through the intricately carved entrance, you're greeted by the sight of the main shrine, dedicated to Lord Shiva, adorned with exquisite architecture and adorned with precious stones. The air is thick with the fragrance of incense and the sound of hymns sung by devotees, transporting you to a realm of spirituality and devotion. One of the most captivating aspects of the Somnath Temple is its history, dating back to ancient times and surviving numerous invasions and reconstructions. Each pillar and sculpture tells a story of resilience and faith, making it not just a place of worship but a living testament to India's rich cultural heritage. To truly immerse yourself in the spiritual experience, consider attending the evening aarti ceremony. As the sun sets and the temple is illuminated by the flickering flames of oil lamps, the atmosphere becomes charged with energy and devotion, leaving a lasting impression on your soul. For practical information, the temple is open from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM every day, allowing visitors ample time to explore its wonders and soak in its divine essence. Whether you're a devout pilgrim or a curious traveler, a visit to the Somnath Temple promises an unforgettable journey into the heart of Indian spirituality.

The first Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva is located in Somnath (Gujarat). Somnath is a symbol of devotion and faith. The temple complex is very grand and huge. In the temple complex itself, all the Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva have been illustrated. The Somnath temple is built near the Arabian Sea, yet the temple complex is quite peaceful. There is a separate place for chanting mantras in the temple. The temple is famous for its artistic and grandeur.

Somnath is a magnificent temple situated in Sagar Kant of Saurashtra in Gujarat state. One of the 12 holy Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva is in Jyotirlinga here in Somnath. Somnath is also mentioned in Rigveda. This temple of Somnath has been very attractive in front of many destructive foreign invaders who want to lure and convert to the temple glory. Whenever the temple has tried to destroy it, then it has been built again. SOMNATH Somnath’s first temple is said to have existed 2000 years ago. Is. In 649 AD, King Maitre of Vallabhini built a second temple in place of the temple and renovated it. In 725, the old ruler of Sindh took his army and attacked the temple and destroyed the temple. Pratishtha King Nag Bhatt II constructed the temple for the third time in 815 using a red stone (sandstone) stone. In 1026, Mahmud Ghazni lent the precious jewels and property of Somnath temple. After looting, slaughtering innumerable pilgrims of the temple and burning the temple and destroying it. During 1026-1042 Solanki Raja Bhimdev built the fourth temple of Bhoj and Anhilwad Patan, Parmar King of Malwa.Somnath was destroyed when Delhi Sultanate occupied Gujarat in 1299. In 1394 it was destroyed again. In 1706, Mughal ruler Aurangzeb again demolished the temple. RECONSTRUCTION India’s Iron Man and First Deputy Prime Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on November 13, 1947 promised to rebuild the temple. Today’s Somnath Temple is built on its original place in seventh place. When the temple was rebuilt on December 1, 1995, then the Indian President Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma dedicated the temple to the country. In 1951, when India’s first President Dr. When Rajendra Prasad proposed to purify Jyotirling, he said, “This temple of Somnath is a symbol of victory over construction on destruction”. [Citation needed] The temple is built under Shri Somnath Trust And this trust is now monitoring the temple. Currently the chairman of the trust is former chief minister Keshubhai Patel and Sardar Patel was the first chairman of this trust. The Kailash Mahameru Prasad Temple, built by Chalukya style, has a spectacular display of the art of Sompura artisans of Gujarat. This type of construction has not happened in the last 800 years. According to the inscription written in Sanskrit on the coast, only the sea exists between the temple and the southern part of the planet and there is no land. #somnathjyortiling #gujarat #gujarattourisum #travelbug #_sinchan9

It is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites for Hindus and is believed to be first among the twelve jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva. The temple was reconstructed several times in the past after repeated destruction by multiple Muslim invaders and rulers, notably starting from an attack by Mahmud Ghazni in the 11th century. It is unclear when the first version of the Somnath temple was built with estimates varying between the early centuries of the 1st-millennium to about the 9th-century CE...

The Somnath temple is believed to be the first among the twelve Jyotirling shrines of Shiv. It is an important pilgrimage and tourist spot of Gujarat. Reconstructed several times in the past after repeated destruction by several invaders and rulers, the present temple was reconstructed in the Chalukya Style of Hundu temple architecture and completed in May 1951. The Somnath temple signifies that the power of reconstruction is always greater than the power of destruction."

When I came to know about it's history and it's cultural importance, I leads to great fascination. It is such a great archeological and religious site to visit. Definitely, it is situated on the seashore and the view is great. Natural beauty is commendable... Moreover, for Hindu religion, it's like must visited place.. But for other religions also you can visit it for natural asthetic. Coming to transport... Here, the main problem is road connectivity is good but the road are somewhere broken ( very few) , but it affects your speed.. No, train facilities directly. Overall, a great place to visit and have fun !!!!

The Somnath Jyotirlinga Temple is located at Somnath, the western coast of Gujarat. It is first of the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines of Lord Shiva. It is one of the oldest temples of the country. It is said that the temple was looted and destroyed as many as seventeen times by invaders like Mahmud Ghazni, Alauddin Khilji and Aurangzeb. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the force behind the revival and reconstruction of the present-day temple in 1951 which still serves as a notable edifice of the original Somnath Temple. The temple is well secured and well maintained. Light and sound show held every evening at the temple premises is very informative and captivating. The temple attracts millions of devotees across the world all throughout the year.

OM NAMAH SHIVAY 🙏🙏🙏 According to tradition, the shivling in Somnath is one of the 12 nyotirlinga in India, where shiva is believed to have appeared as a fiery column of light. The jyotirlingas are taken as the supreme, undivided reality out of which Shiva partly appears. Each of the 12 jyotirlinga sites take the name of a different manifestation of Shiva. At all these sites, the primary image is a lingam representing the beginning-less and endless stambha (pillar), symbolizing the infinite nature of Shiva. In addition to the one at Somnath. The site of Somnath has been a pilgrimage site from ancient times on account of being a triveni sangam (the confluence of three rivers: Kapila, Hiran and the mythical Saraswati). Soma the Moon god, is believed to have lost his lustre due to a curse, and he bathed in the Sarasvati River at this site to regain it. The result is the waxing and waning of the moon, no doubt an allusion to the waxing and waning of the tides at this seashore location. The name of the town Prabhas, meaning lustre, as well as the alternative names Someshvar and Somnath ("the lord of the moon" or "the moon god") arise from this tradition. According to popular tradition documented by j Gordon, the first Shiva temple at Somnath is believed to have been built at some unknown time in the past. The second temple is said to have been built at the same site by the "Yadava kings" of vallabhi around 649 CE. In 725 CE, Al-Junayd, the Arab governor of sindh is said to have destroyed the second temple as part of his invasions of Gujarat and Rajasthan. The Gurjara pratihara king Nagabhata 2is said to have constructed the third temple in 815 CE, a large structure of red sandstone.

One must visit the temple museum where 12 jyotirling are presented with it's history. Very beautiful and Mesmerizing temple near by ocean. The Temple is built at a beautiful location. Phones are not allowed inside the temple you have to submit outside in a locker which is free of charge. The Lord Shiva art gallery inside the temple is enchanting showing the description of 12 jyotirling of Lord shiva embossed on a stone platform. The back view of the Temple will relax your mind and heart because of the ocean view. Phones are not allowed otherwise would have posted pictures of the temple from inside and in the premises. The pictures I have posted have been taken from outside. Will visit again as there were some other small tourist attractions that were missed will get that covered in another Travel Vlog.

This place is perfect in terms of everything like it is easily reachable from railway station. I visited the temple twice in 2 days. The main thing that I liked about this temple is crow management. It took me around 40-50 minutes both the times to visit the temple. The sea view and temple view is amazing as it is situated near to sea. Also light show is amazing. One who go for light show, get to know about the history of Somnath and little bit information about Krishna's story in the voice of Amitabh Bahchan.

And visit this temple before 10am then you will worship and see lord SHIVA properly. After 10am you have to stand on a long queue. You have to come first VERAVAL RAILWAY STATION and after it you can book an auto rickshaw for Somnath temple.

Embarked on a transformative journey to Shree Somenath Jyotirling Temple, and it turned out to be the best weekend of my life. The 10-hour scenic route from Ahmedabad Geeta Mandir, traversed in a comfortable AC sleeper bus (priced at 600 INR), set the tone for the upcoming spiritual retreat. Opted for a two-day stay at a hotel, investing 1000 INR, excluding meals. The anticipation heightened as I approached the temple, only to encounter a unique security measure—electronics were to be left outside. After a meticulous check and a brief waiting period, I stepped into the temple premises. The temple's interior is a testament to architectural brilliance, adorned with intricate details that hold historical and spiritual significance. The soul-stirring instrumental music resonates through the air, creating an indescribable, ear-pleasing ambiance. It's a sensory experience that transcends the ordinary. Beyond the temple, the surrounding places share the same divine aura, offering a serene escape. Visiting nearby spots like Triveni Sangam and Dehotsarg Tirth added layers to the spiritual journey, each place contributing to the overall serenity. The atmosphere is not just calming; it's a profound disconnect from the relentless hustle of the outside world. It's an oasis of peace, allowing for introspection and spiritual rejuvenation. Adding to the overall charm are the warm and welcoming people, creating an environment of inclusivity and shared spirituality. Every corner explored seemed to unfold a new layer of the rich cultural and religious tapestry. Venturing into nearby places enriched the experience, providing a comprehensive understanding of the spiritual significance of the region. Shree Somenath Jyotirling Temple isn't merely a destination; it's a transformative journey, a sanctuary for the soul, leaving an indelible mark on the essence of the weekend.

Really blessed to have a darshan at this jyothirling, we visited during October month and it was less crowded, in fact we have seen the main idol two times due less people. The place was very peaceful to spend time and experience the sea from the temple. I recommend you to visit during early morning or late evening as I have experienced it’s too hot to walk outside of the main temple during noon time.

Visiting the Somnath Mahadev Temple was a profound experience. The architectural grandeur and spiritual aura create a captivating atmosphere. The rhythmic chants and the sound of the waves in the backdrop enhance the overall sense of serenity. Witnessing the evening aarti by the sacred shores adds a celestial touch to the visit. The historical significance and religious fervor make it a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a blend of culture and spirituality.

Temple has very strict security & do not allow before entering the temple, it's important to follow certain rules and prohibitions, such as: 1. Mobile phones are not allowed inside. 2. Digital or electric items, including car keys, are not allowed. 3. Digital watches are not allowed. 4. Bags are not allowed. 5. Belt not allowed It's better to keep only cash. Laser show is very beautiful & very well explained the history of Somnath.

The Somnath Temple, nestled on the western coast of Gujarat, India, is more than just a place of worship; it's a testament to human resilience, rich history, and architectural magnificence. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, one of the principal deities in Hinduism, the temple holds its place as one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, making it a sacred pilgrimage site for Hindus worldwide. The temple's location, perched on the edge of the Arabian Sea, adds to its charm. Watching the sun rise over the ocean from the temple grounds is an experience that will stay with you forever. You can also visit the nearby Patan Somnath Temple, believed to be the original site of the Jyotirlinga, or take a stroll along the scenic beach.

The Somanath temple or Deo Patan, is a Hindu temple located in Prabhas Patan, Veraval in Gujarat, India. It is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites for Hindus and is the first among the twelve jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva. Except mobile and electronics items all can be taken inside. Light show was average but you can see it without tickets. Temple architecture is one of the class. You can keep shoes inside the entry gate and mobile phones outside the gate for free. The intricately carved honey-coloured Somnath temple on the western edge of the state is believed to be the place where the first of the twelve holy jyotirlingas emerged in India – a spot where Shiva appeared as a fiery column of light.

The Somnath Temple is an iconic and revered Hindu pilgrimage site located in the state of Gujarat, India. This ancient temple is steeped in history and spirituality, making it a must-visit destination for religious and cultural enthusiasts. The temple's architecture is a stunning blend of Chalukyan and Solanki styles, characterized by intricate carvings, majestic spires, and a serene atmosphere. It is situated on the shores of the Arabian Sea, creating a picturesque backdrop that adds to the temple's charm. One of the temple's most significant aspects is its historical significance. It has been rebuilt several times throughout its history, symbolizing the resilience of faith. The current structure was inaugurated in 1951 by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and it stands as a symbol of India's unity and independence. The Somnath Temple is not just a religious site; it also offers a glimpse into India's rich heritage and culture. The temple's location near the sea provides a serene and calming atmosphere, perfect for meditation and introspection. Overall, a visit to the Somnath Temple is a journey into the heart of Hindu spirituality, Indian history, and architectural grandeur. It is a place of profound significance and tranquility, making it a must-visit destination for anyone exploring Gujarat's cultural heritage and religious diversity. However, before entering the temple, it's important to follow certain rules and prohibitions, such as: 1. Mobile phones are not allowed inside. 2. Digital or electric items, including car keys, are not allowed. 3. Digital watches are not allowed. 4. Bags are not allowed. 5. Additional restrictions may apply. Be sure to abide by these rules to ensure a peaceful and respectful visit to the temple.

Somnath Temple is the first Jyotirling . It has excellent carving and the peaceful and spiritual atmosphere. The temple was raided and looted 17 times and demolished by Mahmud Ghazni . It was reconstructed by the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel . Moving on from history , I suggest to attend the aarti which happens 3 times a day ( 7am , 12 noon and 7pm) and watch the laser show which starts from 8pm and has entry ticket of Rs.30(not sure).
