Best local, family owned restaurant in Cahaba Heights! Chef and staff are super friendly! Food is wonderful! Always have the best time!

We had reservations booked well in advance to celebrate a friends’ birthday, but the restaurant texted as we were on the way that they were moving our reservation to the patio in mid-30s weather….without heat. This would’ve been our first time visiting, but now I, and all in the party, refuse to ever come back.

While it only seats about 20 in the main dining area and 24 in the extended dining area, Fig Tree Cafe offers up some amazing food. They have an in-house mixologist who does the signature cocktails and most all of the food ingredients are farm to table. Each dish was very flavorful and the staff was polite and accommodating. I haven't had the chance to try the lunch menu, but the dinner menu is great for a night out with a date. Call ahead during busy times as it can fill up quickly. The menu also changes based on the season and what fresh ingredients are on hand.

Food was A plus. Entertainment was also excellent: That is, seeing older people in fancy cars struggling to pull out of the tiny parking lot was such an artistic masterpiece and a treat. Haven’t seen a production like that since the time I went to see Wicked on Broadway.

This is a little gem of a find. The chefs cooking is spectacular, the service was great, and the food was some the best I’ve had in years. One of the favorites are the shrimp and grits. The restaurant is in the rear - not to be confused with the salon in the front.

I'd heard so much good things about this place that I might've gone there with high expectations but the food was Really bad. I had their brunch burger which comes with fried egg and bacon but it was super salty. At first I thought it might be the bacon but no, it was the seasoning. They were nice enough to bring me another burger instead, and this time it wasn't salty but still not tasty at all. Overall, I think it's too expensive for the quality of food you get.

I’ve already given them a 5 star review before but let me tell y’all, if you haven’t eaten at The Fig, you’re missing out. We had: fried green tomato sandwiches, heirloom tomato sandwiches, Nashville hot chicken oysters, crab cakes, chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, red snapper, wagyu steak, & with chocolate blueberry bread pudding. Everything was family style so we all got to taste everything! Simple words don’t do any justice to the actual art that was on our table. I have too many words and none of them are enough - you just need to come be here. It’s not simply eating - it’s being. Thank you J.P. Holland for an evening of magic, and home, in all the best ways <3

Absolutely incredible. The food is artfully prepared and the flavor is out of this world. The Brussels sprouts with the miso vinaigrette are one of my favorite dishes of all time. The pork is to die for and the squash casserole... best ever! The staff are friendly and the chef usually makes it a point to come by check on the guests - a very nice touch.

Brunch- solidly cooked traditional breakfast items like eggs, bacon, grits and waffles; however, the non-traditional breakfast items like the brussel sprouts and tuna tartare were very overseasoned. I will bet at dinner time those items would have been better prepared.

This feels weird for me to do because I used to love this place. About 2 years ago it seemed like a small farm to table style restraunt with high quality food and service. Everyone was still nice, just forgetful. My pet peeve is when you try to remember an order and then botch it at the end and forget someone's plate so it messes up the flow of everyone eating together. People are human so that's OK. But the non overlook able are that we also got 2 avocado toast but the avocado wasn't mashed because it wasn't ripe yet so it was still rubbery. The coffee was also super cold. And the grits were hard. I promise I don't usually complain about things. I just hate that it seems like the restraunt has lost something with a little bit of growth.

I've been a customer of the Fig Tree for years. I love the atmosphere, the staff, and of course the food. It's like having a family southern gourmet cooked meal. Everything is flavorful and cooked to perfection. Eating on the deck and drinking a delicious cocktail can't be beat. Also, I can almost guarantee you'll receive a visit from the chef. He'll remember you, and is always appreciative. I love this place and hope it sticks around forever.

I want to start out by saying that the staff at this restaurant were absolutely amazing when my original Mother’s Day brunch didn’t happen because they had to close the kitchen, I went on Resy to try and salvage my plans but when I arrived at The Fig Tree I was told that they were booked and the waitlist I was on wouldn’t be available unless someone cancelled. I was devasted to say the least. However, the “person in charge” Tee made an exception and allowed my party of 3 to sit at the bar. The only thing she asked was no complaining but let me tell you, there was absolutely nothing to complain about even though behind the bar they were throwing together drinks left and right!!! Tee was behind the bar working hard to take care of everyone but still managed to get us everything we needed, have conversations with us, and serve us amazing food!! If you haven’t been here, you should !!! Thanks again Tee and Staff for the amazing time!!!

I've lived in Birmingham for 20 years, and I can honestly say this was some of the best, if not the best food and service I have ever received.

Always FANTASTIC! Farm to table delicious food! It’s quiet during the week in the separate dining room, which makes it feel very intimate. During the weekends the bar area can get busy and it’s small so keep that in mind.. try to get the dining room or the new back patio outdoor seating. Everything on the menu is PHENOMENAL! It changes every so often which is nice to try new items. 10/10!!! JP and his staff are top notch! *Definitely worth a trip for brunch on weekend, too!*

I hear it is amazing from friends but was closed for dinner on Sunday and Mondays. Menu is bigtime expensive but wanted to give it a try anyhow. Bummed. Staff that was there was super nice and gave us some recommendations.

I recently dined at the Fig Tree Restaurant, and I must say it was a remarkable experience from start to finish. The exceptional service provided our server, truly stood out. Their attentiveness and friendliness made the evening even more enjoyable. Now, let's talk about the food - it was absolutely outstanding. Each dish was expertly prepared and bursting with flavor. From appetizers to dessert, the culinary experience was top-notch, and I highly recommend trying their signature dishes. What really left a lasting impression, though, was the warm hospitality from not only the host and waitresses but also the owner. The owner went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure our comfort and satisfaction throughout the meal, making us feel like valued guests. In summary, the Fig Tree Restaurant is a hidden gem with great food, exceptional service from the staff, and an owner who goes the extra mile to make your dining experience memorable. I can't wait to return for another delightful meal.

Food was delicious! Always love this place. The waffle was soft and buttery. I love their cheese grits. The bacon was thick cut and perfectly crisp.

Last Saturday was the second time my wife and I ate at fig tree. The first time was so good I wanted to take her for our anniversary. The food, staff, environment, and drinks were AMAZING! The whole night ended up feeling like a group of old friends and family having a get together. We are making it a point to go back as often as we can. Easily a 5 star experience!!

My wife and I have been going to The Fig since it was an inconspicuous, 6 table restaurant. And while it is still rather inconspicuous today, it has grown to become a perfect fit for the Cahaba Heights area. The Fig has perfected "upscale-casual" dining, and the food is some of the best you'll have in the city. From the humble truffle fries, to the gargantuan tomahawk pork chop, each menu item is prepared with the same care that you'd expect from Chef JP Holland. The Fig is the perfect spot for family gatherings, business outings, or special date nights. Highly recommend.

We came upon this place by accident a couple of years ago and are thankful we did! It consistently exceeds expectations in food quality and service. Our party ordered 4 different items and all were incredible. Best restaurant we have been to in Alabama.

Got the Farm Burger and it was probably the best burger I’ve eaten within the last two years. My wife got the chicken fried chicken and it was phenomenal as well. Collard greens had a little bit too much vinegar taste for my liking, but the entrees were great.
