We really enjoyed our trip. There was plenty to see, the benches were nice swings, a big variety of plants looked healthy and taken care of. It is right next to a busy road, so some parts can be fairly noisy. But overall it's a very enjoyable experience. They have a couple of different public bathrooms and some vending machines for quick drinks. Plenty of shady areas to enjoy the scenery. We didn't try the cafe, but there is one there that serves lunch. There's no entrance fee, but they do ask for donations. It's also mostly wheelchair accessible everywhere. Even the gravel paths aren't too bad.

Definitely worth to see. My Highlight is the Japanese garden. Parking is free and you don’t need a ticket to enter the garden. Restrooms are in the park.

Very beautiful place. So many areas to take photos that I did not get to walk entire park that. Will definitely be going back. I will be doing a shoot for a graduate in an area I really liked that I saw. Great place to do photo shoots. I loved it. 😍

WOW, WOW, WOW! I never knew there were FREE botanical gardens until I stumbled upon this place! I only had an hour to spend here, so I went to the Japanese garden and the conservatory and they were both beautiful. I am so glad I stopped here because it is so stunning and free (even free to park). I would 100% recommend this place for a fun trip or a date. I hope to come back soon. :)

This place is a breath of fresh air! The diversity in the sections of the gardens were amazing. I really appreciate that it’s free to enter. Unfortunately, I visited on a Monday, so the conservatory was closed, but there is still lots to see! Definitely stop by the wildflower garden

This place was truly an incredible experience. If you even remotely enjoy flowers, plants, the outdoors, hiking or walking, sweet aromas, insects, wildlife, or any of nature's beauty, this is a great place for you! It's crazy to think you can visit her and enjoy all the hard work and dedication at this garden all for free. I loved all the different areas of these gardens, but particularly I appreciated the Kaul Wildflower Garden, because it was a beautiful rendition of most the local flora of Alabama and surrounding states.

This place is absolutely amazing! I didn’t get to see all of it but I will definitely be back! I was in awe from the moment I arrived to when I left. The grounds are kept so nice and the themes are beautiful. Everyone that comes to visit me I will have to take here. Skip the zoo, come to the gardens!

Such a wonderful place to come and enjoy a beautiful Birmingham day. It’s always peaceful and nice here in pretty much any season. I love the Japanese section of the gardens and the boardwalk through the bamboo is very well done. Also don’t miss the moon tree next to the rose garden near the entrance. I feel like every time we come we discover a new section of the gardens. I highly recommend.

Absolutely delightful place to visit. It is well organized, it has a nice mix of trail like hikes and flowery gardens, some of them consisting of fruits and vegetables. It’s even better when you consider it is entirely free, as all these cultural spaces should always be. They’ve done a great job at organizing the plant life in different sections. Wonderful destination to spend a few hours, and there’s an area with restaurants and shops just 2 minutes away by car. %100 recommended you visit these gardens, I will surely stop by every time I’m in town. A walk around here enjoying nature is good for your health and good for the soul.

This was a beautiful outing for our family. It's a nice romantic place for couples too. I thought the children 5 and 9 would be bored, but they weren't. They had fun.

The arboretum was filled with the biggest ponytail palms and birds of paradise I have ever seen. The cacti were some of the biggest I've seen as well. The gardens themselves were well kept but unfortunately had not recovered fully from the freeze. I would love to come back when everything is in full bloom. The shop is fantastic and I spent more than I wanted to but very much worth it.

This is a very magical place! We stopped in early April so not all things were in bloom but the Rhododendrons were spectacular. The place is huge so make sure you have walking shoes on. We learned so much! Looking forward to visiting during the different seasons. Pics- my husband found two pencils on a path and they made for some cute pictures.

This is a beautiful place to spend the day. I can't wait to come back thru in the spring and catch some of the blooms that I missed by being there later in the year. Free parking and free admission and great views, you can't ask for much more. Spend the day walking the paths and sitting by one of the fountains and just enjoy nature.

We spend more than an hour walking through. There is no entrance fee and absolutely free to enjoy there. We visited on Monday and the Green house was closed since it's a holiday on Monday. There are some beautiful swings on the way to the Japanese garden. The graden is structured well. There is a water body were we can see turtles both big and small, fish. They have restrooms and benches in some areas.

Absolutely stunning place, of course we came in the Fall but there was a lot still blooming. I can only imagine what Spring time looks like up here! It's huge! Could easily spend all day here if you're a nature lover like myself just taking in the wonderful sights and the magnificent smells. Ended up leaving with some plants and it's Free to walk in. Mobile and surrounding places need to take note. Will definitely be back

While on my work contract in Birmingham, I unexpectedly discovered the city's Botanical Garden and was pleasantly surprised by its charm. It's truly a hidden gem that should not be missed. The conservatory, with its breathtaking beauty and vastness, left me in awe. Additionally, the garden itself offers a diverse range of areas to explore, providing something for everyone to enjoy. If you haven't had the chance to visit yet, I highly recommend it.

This is a great, free experience in a beautiful part of Birmingham! Although it was hot, most of the paths around the garden are well shaded and easy to walk. I would recommend that you have a map pulled up while exploring since the area is fairly large, but it may also add to memories by simply wandering between the sections. It's interesting to be able to go between and see different types of plants from around the world by walking only a short distance. The traditional Irish rose garden in full bloom was an especially phenomenal experience that I wouldn't want anyone to miss!

Wish I could give this place a higher review, it seems like a great botanical garden, but I visited in November, and on a Monday (which the conservatory is closed on, apparently), and on the day I visited they had most of the water features turned off, likely for maintenance as there were a lot of guys walking around with tools working on PVC pipes. I guess its just a bad day, but I didn't choose when work sent me to Birmingham. The Japanese garden was pretty good despite the cool weather and the fern garden was lovely.

This is a must-do. I wasn't expecting much. I just wanted to walk around a bit and take break from a long car drive. I could have stayed for hours. My suggestion is bring a lunch, there is a Publix around the corner. There are many shaded places to eat. Great place to take pictures!

Tranquil lovely charming and expansive. Our favorites were the formal rose garden-they were so vibrant! And the Japanese garden established in 1967 it has some amazing g plantings, rock structures and water features. It was an amazing place to stroll peacefully contemplating our need for contrasting greenery, or structure. The pathways are wide and smooth throughout the 67 acre park. Masks were required when interacting with or near others. Very relaxing.

Beautiful garden to visit and explore for any occasion. It's free entry, full of gorgeous plants to take pictures of and with, and has plenty of swings, benches, and shaded areas to take a break by. If you're passing through the area or need a break from traveling on a long road trip, definitely a good spot to stretch your legs.

Lovely place for a stroll and a quick activity for the whole family! The gardens are well take care of and there are numerous areas to explore, my favorite wad the rose gardens. My one issue was that there were no maps to keep track of where you were, or I just didn’t know where to look.

If you plant enough seeds of happiness, it will spread like wildfire and become contagious. It's why I adore botanical gardens. The seeds of happiness is everywhere in the gardens. Came here to close out my trip to Birmingham and enjoyed the transition from fall. Since it was mid September it was toasty so make sure you hydrate. Cannot believe they do not charge for admission so come often, stay long and enjoy a break from the fast pace of life. It is well maintained and so many areas to wander and spend time. I loved the greenhouses and veggie garden. But my favorite were the paths that led to the woods and secluded areas that transport you out of the city noise. It's literally smack dab in the middle of the downtown vibrant area of Mountain Brook. Was looking forward to lunch at the cafe but bummed it was closed and there was no notice or information that advise you. The staff at the gift shop are so friendly and take such care to wrap your purchased items. The gift shop is wonderful, stocked with adorable gift items, jewelry, and cute souvenirs. They offer seasonal plants at such a bargan. I swear you can create your own beautiful garden purchasing the plants available here. Gardens are always a good idea. Indulge a little or a lot. But you'll leave smiling from ear to ear for hours, even days after the visit.

Wow.. incredible garden. Took the family and kids here on Thanksgiving day and the grounds are fantastic and so much nature including Japanese garden, fern garden, herb garden, greenhouse and much more. Got to enjoy the leaves changing colors coming at this time of the year and best part is it's completely free to visit. If you are driving through or visiting Birmingham put this place on your list. There is also a waking path to the zoo so Incase you are doing both it's easily accessible.

Very 👍 nice botanical gardens in Birmingham. Excellent stroll even on a cool Fall 🍁 day. Lots of birds smells of 🍂 the season. Free is ridiculous.

There's so much to take in at this park. Beautiful scenery, nice and cool. Friendly staff and patrons. The only thing that I noticed and uncomfortable with was the big pond in the Japanese Garden area had a lot of chemical pollution (PFAS/PFOS). They are widely used in non stick/water repellents. They're long lasting chemicals that break down very slowly over time and has pretty bad health risks once it gets in the body and builds over time. How you know it's present is all the clusters of bubbles on the surface. One of the chemical is hydrophilic and the other side is hydrophobic making it float. I wouldn't touch the water if I were you.

The Birmingham Botanical Gardens (BBG) is a great place to spend a nice weather day. There is a large beautiful rose garden and other gardens of various types of flowering plants. There is also an large glassed in building which houses numerous tropical plants and trees. There are numerous well-defined, easy to walk trails in “wild areas” where the various plants and trees are identified with signs. The Japanese Garden is a truly beautiful place to visit. The BBG offers classes such as their Master Gardeners series on the Garden’s grounds. There are several clubs affiliated with the Gardens, including the Alabama Bonsai Society (ABS), which meet on the premises. Periodically, there special events such is the Cherry Blossom festival and the ABS Spring Bonsai Show. Don’t miss the Bonsai Show which always occurs in the middle of May in the main BBG auditorium.

We spend Sunday morning walking around the garden. This place is big and well maintained. Easy walkways, clear name tags for vegetations. We like the Japanese garden section the most. The Koi’s pond is nice. The rose garden would be awesome when in season. Parking is limited but free just have to get here early. Did I mentioned that it’s free? Well done city of Birmingham. Cheers

Best part of our trip! We loved looking at all the trees, plants, and flowers! The best part for us was probably the Asian gardens with the the fish, and turtles. We also saw a water moccasin!

Such beautiful and expansive botanic gardens! There’s lots of variety of different gardens, including a beautiful Japanese garden and various climate zones inside of the conservatory. Well worth a visit and you can easily spend a couple of hours walking around.

This place is just gorgeous! My boyfriend took me here on my first ever trip to Birmingham and we had such an amazing time. We took so stunning photos 😍. There is so many different gardens you can check out. My favorite was the Japanese garden. The lush greenery was simply breathtaking. We love hiking and nature and this spot was wonderful. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes. Your feet will thank you later. It’s free admission and ample parking. Try and go earlier in the day so you can enjoy the weather on a beautiful sunny day. This place is amazing it’s a must visit you if come to Birmingham.

Beautiful place. Such peacefulness and beauty. Loved the swings and stream...I could use a walk through every morning here! Price was free. Parking was great as well. There was only a handful of people there when we went. Would definitely go back. We weren't able to cover all the area so there was so much more I didn't even see.
