📍Nicholson’s @ The Shakespeare Inn 1. Toad in the Hole (£10) - Outdoor-bred British pork sausages inside a Yorkshire pudding with creamy mashed potato, topped with a rich balsamic caramelised onion gravy. Served with steamed greens and glazed Chantenay carrots. Verdict: Toad in the hole done right - a historic & phenomenal meal indeed!! 🐸 This dish has a unique taste that is enticing that I could barely restrain myself from diving right in 🤤 It was indeed a hefty meal for one person as the portion was enormous, but it was just stupendous that I was able to finish it all by my own 🤩 The Yorkshire pudding was a beaut from inside to out- the savoury baked pudding was slightly crispy on the outside while retaining its airiness and fluffy texture on the inside; the thick buttery and eggy dense centre which nestled 3 big scoops of creamy mashed potato and jumbo sausages, soaked up the piping hot balsamic caramelised onion gravy well. There was a nice juicy bite on the sausages, and I’ve to admit that the rich onion gravy was spot on, as it paired well with everything on the plate. The highlight was definitely the Yorkshire pudding as it was gently crispy and beguilingly fluffy while not carrying a hint of grease despite its mode of preparation 😍😍 The Shakespeare Inn has its own distinctive warmth, genuine service and vibrant atmosphere. I was lucky enough to stumble upon this characterful pub which serves Autumnal dishes with modern twists. Prepare your taste buds for seasonal delights you’ll only find here within their historic walls. A superb range of cask ales from specialist breweries, as well as delicious freshly cooked pub food available. Cheers mate 🍻

Some nice beers, decent price for Brum Town centre and pleasant atmosphere. Would like to see more variety in the draft beers (some darker ales / stouts would be nice).

Amazing pub in the centre of Birmingham great food and lovely atmosphere and amazing staff, came up from Oxford for the day and chose to use a local company . We should all be using local business and not huge chain companies. Once again thank you for an amazing lunch and a tru Birmingham welcome 🙏 😊

Good old fashioned pub with an atmosphere where one could imagine being a haunt of the Peaky Blinders back in the day. And of course....great beer.

Good food, good Amstal, decent prices. Small seating area outside but ask nicely and other drinkers might let you sit with them. Staff friendly and the place was clean.

The public house was very busy with an array of ales. When we walked in the. Place has an old contemporary look to it I recommend going to have a look and a pint.

A great pub. Although it looks small, they've got a well stocked bar with a great range of drinks. Service was quick and they've got a few tables inside and out. Staff were friendly and there was quite a nice atmosphere inside.

I called in 'on spec' on the Saturday afternoon of Pride weekend. Very busy, very noisy and very enjoyable! Bar staff cheerful and happy despite apparently being run off their feet. Good selection of ales too. A great city centre pub.

Was pretty busy when we were there around the end of the work day but was a nice small pub with plenty of drink selections and reasonable amount of seating. Felt like a place people drop in for a few after work then move on.

Was fairly quiet when we went in at lunch time which for us was nice. Ordered some food, a burger meal and chicken n avocado sandwich, was expecting usual pub food standard but this was much better than expected. Burger was a double and was a very good size and cooked well, chips were great , sandwich was fresh and nice. Good staff and good service, food for me was excellent and well worth the money.

Lovely old pub! Been before, so I hate to mark low.. But... it was like an oven in there, no air con or fans or anything.. staff were lovely but I felt so sorry for them they were melting! Good choice of drinks, didn't have time for food.. too hot to eat in anyway! And, if you can get one of the few tables outside.. great place to people watch!

Nice pub. Close to the station. Food deals seemed good although we didn't eat at the pub.

Overpriced food. It was busy, but we didn't even get any cutlery! Food just plonked on the table with no airs and Grace's. For the price, it needed a lot more care overall, especially for the cooking and delivery. Would probably be a nice place to go for just a drink with friends. Bar staff were nice and cheerful.

Very friendly staff. Beer was great. Thing that let it down was that the place needed a right good wash. We sat next to a tiled wall and the tiles were really dirty. Would just take a bit of attention and this is something that could be fixed easy enough.

Lovely looking place on the inside. Experience ruined by a power tripping bouncer. Didn't even get the chance to have a sip of the pint I bought. I tried to go outside for a cigarette with my pint; When I walked past the place a few hours earlier I had seen a few groups of people out there with their drinks so thought it was OK. My mistake, as this was not in fact allowed, understandable. I explain to the bouncer what I had seen earlier to cause my misunderstanding. He takes this as an immediate challenge to his integrity; calling me a drunk (the pint I was about to drink was my second drink after 2-3 hours so that simply was not the case) so that he has a reason to remove me. I had no issue with leaving my drink inside. I did not appreciate the confrontation from the bouncer simply for telling him what I had seen with my own eyes.

Stopped in a couple of weeks ago whilst waiting for my train home.. couple of Carling and a great Fish and Chips, portion looked more like a Whale!.. will definitely stop in again when I’m next in Birmingham. Staff were friendly, served by a girl called Emily according to my receipt.

I was in there with three old friends last night. I didn't eat this time...but have in the past and always enjoyable. Just beers last night...and the staff were super friendly. The shorter blonde went above and beyond pouring our Guinnesses. We shall be back!

I booked an after Nutcracker matinee meal at The Shakespeare Inn, 2 mins from New Street Station but the Uber driver taking us from The Hippodrome Theatre, took us to the 'wrong' Shakespeare Inn near Paradise Circus. However the two young women serving were very welcoming and helpful explaining both pubs were the same company, so because I have mobility disabilities we decided to stay and eat where we were. The staff were very attentive and the food arrived quickly, piping hot and was excellent. Everywhere looked clean and welcoming.

If you're looking for a traditional English pub. Then the Shakespeare is a good start, they even have an outside area where you could people watch to your hearts content, staff was prompt to serve (I went there 5:00 on a Thursday) beer was nicely chilled, would definitely visit again when next in Town

Nice old decor pub in the city centre, went in there waiting for my travel back home. Great selection of beers at reasonable prices. Try the Nicholson's ale it's a great session pint. Would go again 100%

Usually a busy city centre venue, visited it about 10.30pm on a Friday night and it was virtually empty but so we're many proper pubs that evening. Beer pulls covered in cling film and a terrible smell of cleaning products may not have helped. Friendly service and beer was fine but the smell...

Good to see a city centre pub still doing its thing. Visit on Saturday afternoon, and it was pleasant to see the variety of people there. All the usual drinks, not sure if they do meals so can't comment. New Street station is just over the road... So, well done.

Great pub right in the middle of Birmingham city centre. Good selection of beers and spirirs. Plenty of chairs and tables inside. Good pint of Guinness too.

We stopped off for a bite to eat here whilst waiting to check into our hotel. I had a couple of pints (very nice) and some light bite sandwiches which were excellent. Really nice place in the city that still has that traditional, local pub feeling about it. Highly recommended
