I'm not certain how I feel about this place after visiting it a few nights ago. The inside is a bit quirky, the tables are quite close together and it just felt slightly compact. The food was okay, just okay. The chicken Nachos we had for starters were really good, but we were slightly disappointed with the mains. I ordered a chicken and prawn curry. The prawns, sauce and rice were lovely, but the chicken was so dry I picked it all out and then ordered another portion of prawns to go with it. My husband ordered a burger, but it came in a wrap instead or a burger bun. He didn't enjoy it much. It's was just not very appetising. The staff all seemed lovely, but I'm afraid the food let the place down. Probably wouldn't visit here again. I definitely prefer Las Iguanas for this type of South American food.

Relaxed lunch, cocktails were two for £10 - can mix these from the varied cocktail menu. Food is good, plenty of choice, and nice sized portions including smaller plate options. Good value for money. Staff were attentive and friendly.

Good decor and atmosphere. Special mention must go to the house nachos at the start and the churros at the end, which were especially good! Came during 'happy hour' which turns out to be all Sunday, and had some very nice cocktails at 2 for £10.

I’ve been here many times but todays visit felt underwhelming. I pretty much always get the burrito and the way it was cut just made it impossible to eat. The food quality itself was really tasty but I know how to eat a burrito and todays offering made me have to use a knife and fork. It may look pretty on the plate but it’s very tricky to eat this way.

Next time I'm in the area, this place is no1 on my list. The nachos are the best I've ever had 😀

Previously good, now terrible. Rude neglectful staff despite lack of customers, hard uncooked rice, people sat too close together and some staff not even wearing masks - would not recommend.

Faultless. The ambiance, service and the food. We ate off the three course menu (£35) and the procession of amuse bouches and courses were each a voyage of discovery and a delight to the tast buds. Finished with an espresso, again perfect, which was a great way to wind up the afternoon. I look forward to returning. I've fulfilled my wish and returned. Mirabrel have again wowed is with dfish after dish of utterly delicious food. Everything prepared to perfection and likewise delivered to the table. Apologies, my enthusiasm overwhelmed my efforts to record each dish, so a couple are missing. Looking forward to the next visit.

The perfect way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our first date. Our first visit to Maribel and it won't be our last, after what was a great experience. We had the 6 course tasting menu - beautifully balanced courses, delightfully presented, delivering a variety of flavours, colours and textures. It was delicious!!! The staff were very welcoming, attentive during service, prepared to answer questions about the food and talk about their personal work experience. The size of the restaurant and its sophisticated modern decor create an ambience in which is it a delight to dine. Thank you

Loved the food, although that doesn't quite describe it. The flavours were amazing and the presentation for each dish was a bit of a wow. The staff were all attentive without being overbearing. This place is a little gem

We dined here only 6 weeks after it opened. Even though it’s was Friday 13th, we weren’t expecting to be the only diners, all evening. We went for the 9 course tasting menu. Most of the dishes were sublime. Definitely up there with dishes you’d expect to find at a 2* restaurant, but I’m afraid Maribel has a way to go before it can claim anything from the Michelin guide. The last dish was pretty nasty (beetroot ice cream with rose water flavoured Italian meringue), and the mackerel dish needs the skin to crispy (they said it had been blow torched, but it was soggy. The truffled mashed potato with caviar was exquisite. The duck dish and lamb dish were both exceptional. So, on balance, the food was top notch. The whole experience was tarnished by the ambiance. We wondered why we were the only diners on a Friday night. There were no World Cup matches to dissuade diners, nor was it a midweek issue. In the end, we decided that it was the goldfish bowl effect that must be putting diners off. Big windows all around allow passers by to gawp at you while you try to enjoy the food. The furniture looks modern, but it’s more suited to a hotel restaurant than a fine dining experience. So, I guess that puts people off too. Perhaps some frosted glass to give a level of privacy and intimacy, and some way of lighting the place to make it more romantic...? Finally, we asked around, and no one of our friends had even heard about this restaurant opening. Maybe there’s a failing of marketing or PR... we’ll wait for this place to improve before going back there. The chef should pop out to meet the diners and get some feedback. That would be a good move...

We went around 3.30 (had to book a table in advance) and the restaurant was fairly empty but it was buzzing by the time we left. I got the mushroom and sweet potato burrito and it arrived lovely and hot, was well seasoned but i got the hot which wasnt as spicy as i thought it would be. Lovely drinks ans atmosphere, and the happy hour was well appreciated

Amazing food and vibes. It was busy so service was slow but the waiter was lovely and friendly. The tacos are the best Mexican I have had in the UK. The drinks were delicious. The vegetarian tacos were really nice! Which is something you don't often get. Have recommended to friends and will be back!

I was excited to visit when decided to go here for a team lunch, but was underwhelmed by the experience, lunch time was pretty empty but still very slow service, had to give our order to the bar staff as we couldn't find the waitress for ages, we only have 1 hour for lunch. Bar staff took the order wrong so then had to wait for replacements. They did offer to knock some of the food off the bill. Serving the tacos without a plate I found weird. Nachos were very nice. overall disappointing experience though

Awful evening. Uninterested staff, slow service. We had to go to the bar twice to ask for drinks and food. Manager wouldn’t solve poor service issues even after bringing them to his attention. Just awful dry basic food and half cocktails. Ridiculous place trying to be a relevant city centre restaurant. Rubbish 👎

Great service, although food was slow to come out, it was very busy to be fair! But great food takes time to cook, and it was great. Highly recommend the Brazilian xinxim! Great portion size too. Everyone loved their meals

As this was my first time trying out South American food with my children, I was very impressed with the nice selection of menu options and I love the vibrant colour food they had served. Each of the dishes was well presented and makes you want to eat more! There is plenty of seating to accommodate a variety of groups of people. We were taken to our seat quickly and had our drinks ordered. They also offer a Children’s menu and asked if any of us had any food allergies. There are quite a few places for off-street parking but they are limited by an hour during peak time. It is worth parking at Duke Street or Queen Street car park for longer stays.

We have been here many times with my family and my son. We all enjoy the food, drinks and the ambience. However, on 28 August, we were served beef instead of Halloumi burger for my kids main. We are pure vegetarian something my wife never fails to mention To the waitress every time we go a restaurant right at the onset. It’s ok- mistakes happen but left Us slightly disappointed

The halloumi burger was great. However, the Argentinian steak had 7 different nerves - really unpleasant when chewing a piece of meat. The churros were a bit dry and they were a bit stingy with the dulce de lèche sauce...

90 mins wait for food, servers not arsed at all. Managers were appalling to converse with. Once food finally arrived 1 meal was wrong, 2 were dried up with burnt areas. One manager claimed he witnessed the dish coming out of the oven and must be fresh (although very late), not quite fresh enough to not be burnt. Other manager simply walked off mid-conversation whilst we were asking where our food was. Will never eat here again!

Burrito was very nice tasty and presentable however when I have asked for spicy, mine one did not feel close to spicy. My girlfriend ordered "ximxim chicken and seafood". Temperature was cold. When waiter arrived (blonde waitress) and asked about our food, my girlfriend mentioned that food temperature was quite disappointing, waitress just mumbled "ohh" and disappeared.

We've read some good reviews about Maribel so we've decided to try it for ourselves. We went for dinner and he chose the six course tasting menu. We enjoyed every course plus the canapes. Every dish was excellent and the service was outstanding. We were impressed by the whole experience. Thank you everyone at Maribel for the experience. We will definitely come back.

I have been fortunate enough to eat at several Michelin star restaurants across the UK and can honestly this was as good as any. The food was of outstanding quality. Really enjoyed the snacks and the beer bread was the best bread I’ve had in a long while. Highly recommend.

  • 4/5 David P. 5 years ago on Google
Perfection, that’s what I seek when I pay over £100 for a fine dining experience. The food at Maribel is arguably some of the finest examples I have had the pleasure of sampling in the West Midlands (set alongside the fine establishments such as Adams and Simpson’s). The pairing of lamb and a smoked hollandaise sauce was sublime. The fruity rice based pudding was not easy on the eye. However, its creamy texture and tangy notes made it more-ish. Maribel even added drama to the courses with the unveiling of dried ice fumes in the starter. The interior is bright, modern, with a relaxed view of the square outside. So why isn’t Maribel 5 star material, one word, service. The descriptions of the dishes lacked a depth, story, connection for me to play with to be completely immersed in the culinary experience. The staff were lovely, kind and warm, but they need to connect with the food. Make me love what I see before I taste it.

Absolutely brilliant! We've got a new candidate for a Michelin Star in the city! Edmunds (previously in this location) was our favourite restaurant in Birmingham since the moment we've moved to the city. We loved the food but also the service and management. It was a really nice fine dining experience. But at the same time it was a bit obvious and predictable. Guys in charge decided to level up their game. They hired a new Chef, refurbished the interior, they reinvented the place completely. It was a risky move but I think it was worth it! Maribel is amazing! All the good stuff from Edmunds, such as perfect service, friendly and welcoming staff, professional knowledge, is still there. On top of that, they have a top rank chef now, who's menu is exquisite. You can see great experience in preparation, taste pairings and presentation of all the exciting dishes. Everything we've tasted (12 dishes tasting menu!) was amazing and full of flavour. Even the dishes I wouldn't normally go for (squab pigeon) were a positive surprise. Wine pairing from Gonçalo - perfect as usual. Excellent fine dining experience! I would definitely recommend for a special occasion or a romantic night out. I'm sure we will be back again and again!

Absolutely beautiful food at this restaurant. We went for the 3 course dinner option and it was more than exceptional. They catered for my gluten free and dairy free dietary requirements with finesse which I really appreciate. I see good things to come for this new restaurant in Birmingham. All the best!

Being a food lover and living in Birmingham we are spoilt for choice when it comes to great restaurants and my wife and I often enjoy fine dining. We visited Maribel Restaurant with high expectations due to the chef being Richard Turner. We had eaten at his Restaurant in Harborne which held a Michelin star for many years and the food was always amazing. I am leaving a 5 star review with no hesitation, the food at Maribel's was simply amazing and we cannot imagine ever eating anything that could top this. We now have a favourite Birmingham Restaurant and highly recommend a visit.

Upmarket restaurant in Brindley Place (used to be Edmunds restaurant previously). Sleek modern interior is small but comfortably laid out. Staff are attentive and meticulous in their service. We had a taster menu which I thought was six courses but seemed to be more like eight. Portions are not big so perhaps I mistook an amuse bouche for a course. Either way I was full by the end. The food really is the star of the show as it should be. Beautifully presented and described for us by the waiters. Everything looks carefully crafted to fit the dish and it is all a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach. I don't eat like this often given the price tag, but it felt like a menu that drew on traditional European cooking with some Asian influences rather than anything too wacky. Courses were based on vegetables, soup, smoked pork, roasted lamb and fish and there was no sign of foam, mist or 'boil in the bag' trendiness. Chef seemed to like fairly thin gravies and sauces but they were flavoursome and not intense like some jus can be. We went midweek and it wasn't too busy so I would say ideal for a celebration meal if you enjoy quiet dining and good service.

This is the best Mexican (adapted) food that you can have in Birmingham. I've been multiple Bodega destinations and the food is constantly good between them. The staff on this particular visit were very attentive despite it being a busy Saturday night - and made us aware of the wait on food so that we could order more drinks and nachos accordingly. I would recommend booking in advance as this is a really popular place in one of the most popular central streets in Birmingham. Also ,the fish tacos are off the hook!

  • 3/5 Michael R. 1 year ago on Google
We ordered a range of dishes from the menu, including a burrito, enchiladas, fish tacos and the sweet potato fries. Some nice flavour combinations, however the sides were over priced and underwhelming and the food didn't quite have that wow South American factor.

  • 2/5 Lauren E. 1 year ago on Google
Service was super slow. Took almost an hour to get drinks and I had to flag someone down to order food. Then they didn't tell us something we ordered wasn't available, it just never arrived. We were also urged to pay the bill within 10mins of finishing eating as they needed the table. Food was good tho and portions were really good for the price. So if they can sort the service I'd recommend here for food. Or just get takeout

I visited here yesterday with my husband and its such a lovely , vibrant place. I would say overall I loved it as the food is delicious, the cocktails were great and the vibe was lively. There were a couple of downfalls.. When we first walked in and we were seated, we did have to wait a bit to be asked if we would like any drinks and what we were having for food. When we were approached, the staff were helpful so that was nice. The second thing I would say is , the tables were sticky as the menu was stuck to it and when the lady asked me to pass her the menu , it was stuck! The ladies toilet was OK with cleanliness but the floor was sticky in there also. Apart from these couple things (which are important) I have no faults. Great evening and service was good after all.

The food was good here, and the cocktails we tried were pretty good as well. Price was about usual for eating out anywhere, and service time was also about average. Not fast but not egregiously slow. We did have to call for service every time we needed it though, and since we sat by the bar we saw both the bartender and the servers touching the straws with bare hands on nearly every drink - one after the other.

We visited bodega a couple of weeks ago, and was serviced by the ever lovely Lucy. We had a brilliant time in the restaurant, the cocktails where lovely and the food was Devine! Watch out for those home made tacos though! They fill you up so much I struggled with my main - a tortilla burger - wish I had come up with that before! Cocktails brilliant, food lovely, service fantastic what more could be said?

  • 4/5 Ting N. 1 year ago on Google
Vegan options are good - but limited. There is a separate menu that you can ask for when being seated. Vegan nachos are always a winner. Sometimes I get them as a solo lunch order because nothing else quite hits the spot. They are a crispy, crunchy deep-fried tortilla type nacho - not the piddly corn chips from the supermarket. Do try them! Good cocktails but a lot of them are sweet, if that matters to you.

Always enjoy visiting Bodega Cantina one of our favourite restaurants in Birmingham and we were able to use an email discount of £10 off a spend of £30 or £20 off £60. They also have 2 cocktails for £12 available until 7 pm. You can't use both offers together though. The service, food and drinks were exceptional as they always are. Will definitely be back.

All I can say is amazing………. The manager made me and my guest of 20 feel welcome even though we just turned up at the doorstep with no notice due to the poor service from FAT HIPPO NEXTDOOR. I've been going to Bodega ever since it first opened. I was left majorly disappointed with my Takeout last night. My house nachos was missing the Salsa, Sour Cream and Guacamole which is what makes them nachos! My Halloumi burger was missing the Slaw and some of the fries were undercooked. I called to make the order and spent £20/21 which was a waste of money!. Unfortunately your website doesn't have a contact address so I've had to write a Google review. See photos attached

Me and my partner were visiting Birmingham so booked this table in advance, arrived slightly early and were seated straight away. It was busy but our server Ben did an amazing job, he was serving a full restaurant by himself and kept on top of everything. Food was delicious as were the drinks and churros. Would highly recommend.

We were in a big group of 20 and they were able to accommodate us without issue, taking the downstairs area just for us which was really nice. The staff were also excellent and were very fast with service. Considering there were so many of us, it was great to see that they had prepared well. The food was mostly good, with some of the portion sizes being larger than I could handle. My picks were the cola wings, chicken mole burrito and the mango strawberry dessert. The cola wings and the mango dessert were my favourites of the night. The only slight downside to the experience was that there was a weird smell to the downstairs. You do adjust to it after a short while, but definitely something to be improved on. But overall a good experience.

Do no go to bodega. There's plenty of places with food and cocktails that you can go to in Birmingham. My experience was lacklustre and made me sick when I got home. I ordered the burger, basically a patty in a wrap, with overly oily fries and a pot of mayo from a bottle. Basically a weekday dinner made by a student. There were dots of oil left on the soggy paper under where each fry was. We were sat at wonky table in the corner. I'd be accepting of the less than mediocre food quality and poor atmosphere if the food was cheap. But the prices were high and what you expect for central Birmingham. the food I could have made better with my eyes closed. The pitiful portions of tacos didn't last me two bites. What an enormous disappointment. I'd rate it lower if I could. You can see from the picture how dark it was in the corner. This was 1.30pm. Why is it so dark in here?? I couldn't even comment on the poor food to my fried as I was sat right next to the cash register. I don't understand how you can call this a restaurant. A fast food joint maybe. I will not be returning! What a shame to catch up with an old friend in such a grim place. This total meal costs £34. For 2 places of food and a black coffee. 👎

Went in for lunch on a work day. We were welcomed with a smile and got promptly seated and then were forgotten for about 15 mins, even though the waiters were just walking around. And finally when our order was taken, we were informed that it would take time because there were many people( honestly, a lot of them were mostly drinking). We said okay but little did we know that we had to wait for 45 mins to not have our food served and our work waiting at office. When we finally asked the waiter to check on our food, he went in and brought our food in the next 2 mins. Idk what that implies. Outrageously slow! And the food was not worth the wait. Poor flavours, very ready-to-eat kinda flavours, not authentic mexican flavours. The enchilada was a dry and the filling had no spices, just a load of butter. The tacos were tiny but okayish. The spicy rice had a stale smell to it. The halloumi burger was a dry wrap of a halloumi in a tortilla bread( this was by far better tasting than the rest though). I have given 2 stars for food only because my friend insists that it helped our hunger and we should be grateful. Also, he has never had mexican food before. While paying for the bill which came to 40 pounds, the paying machine asked us to select an amount for the tip and the waiter kept directly looking at us choosing one and it was so impolite and we felt compelled to pay a tip even though the service didn’t deserve it (you see we are mild people who are incapable of being rude or speaking up and asking for a confrontation). The drinks were great though. 2 for 12£ and great flavours. Oh and an old couple came in much much after us and were served within minutes, even though they ordered more or less the same items we had ordered. The ambience is really good but a shame how things are run here and the quality of food. I am not coming back or suggesting it to my friends.

Johnathan was our waiter and was very accommodating, polite and patient as I have allergies that are not always straightforward. Yet he took the time to even go and check with the chef. A thousand thank yous from my wife and I.

Popping colours, happy hour cocktails and delicious food! What's not to love? We had the chicken enchilada, beef quesadilla and some drinks.

My recent visit to Bodega in Birmingham left me with mixed feelings. The restaurant boasts delicious Mexican cuisine that truly hits the spot. The flavors and variety of dishes offered were impressive, making it a memorable dining experience in terms of food quality. However, I must address a couple of shortcomings that affected my overall satisfaction. Firstly, the service regarding the cocktails was disappointingly slow, taking over 30 minutes to arrive. Additionally, I had to remind the staff twice about a soft drink for my daughter, which added a bit of inconvenience to our meal. The most concerning issue arose with the chips, which arrived stone cold. Bringing this to the attention of the staff, they replaced the chips, but unfortunately, the second batch seemed to be the same chips reheated. This oversight regarding the temperature of the food was disappointing and detracted from an otherwise enjoyable meal. Despite these drawbacks, I appreciate the efforts of the staff to address the issues raised. The food quality and the vibrant ambiance remain the highlights of Bodega. I hope that the service hiccups and food temperature inconsistencies can be rectified to ensure a consistently satisfying experience for all patrons. Overall, Bodega offers delicious Mexican cuisine, but improvements in service efficiency and ensuring food temperature are crucial to elevate the overall dining experience.
