The Alchemist Colmore Row

Restaurant Bar Cocktail bar

👍 Drinks are very special and signature. But most either with bubbles or dry ice only. After ordering two to three, will feel a bit bored with it. Doesn’t really get a sense of chemistry as expected. More like gimmicks things only instead. I would prefer it’s more like molecular cuisine or mixing two... We booked online and left a deposit for the £35 bottomless brunch. But sadly as we caught covid, we had to cancel, the restaurant was really good, they held onto the deposit and allowed us to change the date for when we were clear. When we came, the restaurant was quiet, service was quick and our waiter was very attentive. The menu had a good variety for brunch and it was a really good portion size plus the cocktails were delicious, a bit on the heavy side. The only downfall is when we booked it was offering the £35 bottomless brunch, but when we asked after our brunch order how much time we had left for bottomless, they advised it was no longer available and we had already made our second order. So it was disappointing as we planned a moms day off for a lot of tipples!

Drinks are very special and signature. But most either with bubbles or dry ice only. After ordering two to three, will feel a bit bored with it. Doesn’t really get a sense of chemistry as expected. More like gimmicks things only instead. I would prefer it’s more like molecular cuisine or mixing two different test tube of drinks into a new taste, which more like chemist. Food is so so, not bad, but not really very delicious. Just street standard. If you want to take photos or video, it is a nice place for cocktails and photos with friends, otherwise a bit disappointed if you put your expectation on the taste of food or drinks. As I prefer the taste of food and drinks, I would give 3.5 stars only. If just for cocktails and photos, it worth 4 to 4.5 stars.

I don’t mind this place, but it’s not great either, due to onforseen circumstances I should’ve gave it a 1 * but it was my fault. When I was up the bar waiting for a drink because someone was having what I’d say is a 29 minute cocktail being made, I noticed on the bar, there was 2 wine glasses with shots in, and you have to squirt them in your mouth, due to the fact I was waiting for so long, I decided to treat myself to one of the aforementioned “shots” , however on entry to my gob, it immediately tasted of what I can only describe as a “light fish sauce” on further investigation to the “shot” I’d just quaffed down my Gregory peck. I was informed by the lady behind the bar that it was colouring for cocktails. On the whole, great atmosphere, but not a great place for beer drinkers.😁👊🏻

This is a great cocktail bar. I came here to celebrate with my sister and I got 'the legal one' cocktail, which was very fitting for the circumstances, and a few others. Overall, a great lively atmosphere, really friendly staff and of course the cocktails and the food were to die for. Will definitely be coming back again!

Good atmosphere, nice music and staff is friendly and helpful. I think the cocktails are a bit overpriced, but I guess you pay for presentation too...whoever they are certainly unique!

They're good at what they do in serving up great cocktails and mocktails, but it's not somewhere I personally would spend an entire night. I had no more than a couple of drinks before moving on. I had the Smokey Old Fashioned. My tee-total wife's mocktail was incredibly sweet when I tasted it, to the point that my booze was probably much healthier! Maybe we're too old for the place!, still very lively and popular amongst the youngsters though. Right by snow hill station so easy to get to.

Amazing service, food was 8/10 and huuuuge portion for a chicken salad. I got fries as an extra side but didn't need to! Knocked a star off as amount of drink in the cocktail was so little compared to the price. Very tasty, would come back. 😌

Staff were friendly and really helpful! Drinks were great and really good fun! Light bulb moment and colour changing one are my recommendations! A little pricey but cocktails are.

Took the beuch offer, 3 drinks and food, from the offer menu. It was empty at 11 a.m., so there was not a lot of atmosphere, and staff seemed to be restocking, so not as attentive to folk as perhaps they might have been. Cocktails were good. "colour changing one" was the better with the "bubble bath" being rather disappointing, looking nothing like it's frothy picture. I had eggs benidict, which were nicely presented, but not as warm as they could have been sadly. Overall, it was OK but would not make a special trip.

The bottomless brunch here was lovely. I'm not sure about the service so much. But considering our main waitress was lovely, food was amazing and the speed of service was great, we would definitely recommend. Maybe some of the other staff could have been a bit more freindly, no one smiled at us and they often made it look like they were staring and laughing. But I've worked in hospitality when I was younger, so hopefully was just a mistake or a bad day for some of the staff. Definitely recommend the food, brunch is great value for money and it's super cool and trendy inside.

It has the most fantastic cocktail presentation. It's a one-of-a-kind location. Cocktail enthusiasts will find a wide range of options. I recommend it to anyone who like change and discovering new areas. It's worth a shot. The service is also excellent, with a welcoming atmosphere.

What a fantastic cocktail bar! There is definitely magic going on behind that bar and watching the cocktails being made is fantastic. The bar is comfortable and cozy with a fabulous atmosphere. The range of cocktails is extensive so you definitely find something you will enjoy. It's worth a visit if you have never been before.

Came in here for a cheeky Friday afternoon cocktail. It was busy with a good vibe and atmosphere. This did not mean we had to wait long at the bar. The staff were happy to assist in helping us pick a snazzy cocktail. They even make non-alcoholic mocktails. There is limited seating outside.

As you walk in the door to your left was the cocktails bar and the right was the restaurant that was nice lovely decor and music playing prestation of the food was nice and detail the waitresses was helpful and very polite noting was to much and went out her way for us and gave us very good advice when ordering our food and cocktails and mocktails on point

Crazy cocktails, a spectacle watching them being made, everyone should go the Alchemist at least once for the experience, great atmosphere great cocktails, circa £10 each. This bar was easy to find in the city centre in a popular area.

We had a drinks here before going for a meal elsewhere. Fun and fancy cocktails but expect to pay £10+ per drink. The science theme is interesting and I'd say it's great for a one-time experience.

I loved it here! Totally different experience, great vibe, nice ambience. 1. It is wheelchair accessible 2. Staff are nice 3. Menu is quite unique 4. It is more of an experience than a hunger quench 5. Easy to locate 6. Neat and unique rest room 7. Food was great, I had one of the servers pick a dish for me and she did great. I had Crispy Fish Curry or so. I would visit again.

Good atmosphere, decor and ambience and a young crowd. The couple next to me were asked to prove their age before they could order a drink. The drinks are nicely tricked up so the place is good for special occasions. I loved my lollipop prawns (see photo) though I thought it was a bit unusual to have the curry itself for my chicken curry on the side. Never seen that before. Also unusual is to add an “optional” service charge and not tell you about it. Maybe it was in the fine print somewhere.

A warm greeting and some great food. We loved the syringes used in the food as part of the effect for something slightly different. You must try their Baby G's cocktail. Great take on a Guiness reduction with Bailey's cream and coffee. Will definitely be back. The Tattu restaurant around the corner which we went to later in the evening does not come close in terms of service and value for money. Alchemist has a fantastic team and will definitely be back. Thank you to all the staff for creating a great memory

Birthday treat, couldn’t of picked a better place little small inside very cosy but you don’t mind when the food and drinks taste so good! How they make some of the drinks is incredible and fascinating good price range too

Absolutely loved every moment at this place! The staff were lovely. I am not going to lie but there is 100% witchcraft going on here! Wizardry i tell you! I also got to try vegan tofu prawn toast! Since turning vegan I wanted to see what that tastes like and there it was on the beautifully designed menu. The inside was absolutely stunning. The toilets looked far to posh for myself to even be in them. I really did have a wonderful time.

Amazing cocktails. Brilliant waiters and waitresses. Enjoyed watching the cocktails being made. Attention to detail is fabulous, even the ceiling lights are like molecules and each cocktail has its own made up chemical symbol/name

The cocktails are obviously unique and nice, but I discovered the food for the first time, impressed!
