We ate and drank here after travelling to the Arena for a gig. The Flapper is a good place to relax, eat and drink for a couple of hours before a concert. Good range of drinks. Food is based on subs but very good ones. Subs are substantial and sides are available. Situated by Cambrian Canal Basin where there is lots of historical interest. Nice place and we will always use before a gig. Recommended.

Came to see Dangerous Summer touring from the US. Some great supporting acts including Beauty School, atmosphere was great and lots of choice of drinks. Would have liked to have seen the downstairs bar open as kept having to go back upstairs to buy drinks but no great burden. Thanks!

Arrived at the venue at 6:40pm on a Thursday afternoon. Ordered via the QR code which advised of a 40 minute wait for food. Friends went to the bar and were advised of an hour wait for food. The drinks are poured fine, and they have a good variety of beers available, and they are well kept. The food we ordered was burgers and fries, so is a 40 minute to an hour wait acceptable, well, I guess so if you have been told in advance. at 7:55pm, I asked a staff member where our food was (I was expecting it at 7:20pm), and were told they would look into it. The reason we asked is we had seen other people get their food before us and they ordered after us. Cue some frantic bringing out of chips and we were told the burgers would be coming out, we were also offered a free drink each as way of apology. We asked what had happened, and the staff put this down to the volume of orders, but this does not explain others getting served before us, when they ordered after us. The food itself is really tasty, and if there was no delay, I would happily give this a 5 star review. I guess the kicker for ourselves was we were off to see Alanis Morissette across the road and missed the support act because of the late food delivery. If we were not on a deadline, this would not have been as much of an issue, as the venue is clean, tidy and welcoming.

Nipped in for a quick pint of Guinness and grabbed a table down by the canal. Always good to walk into a pub in the early evening and hear some proper metal being played. There's a few handpumps including Trooper on offer, Guinness was decent enough

While walking the canal paths we popped in to this excellent live music bar playing non stop metal rock and serving 3 well kept real ales on tap - a pleasant unexpected treat! Highly recommend.

A hidden Gem. Great selection of beers, loads of great outside space by the canal, love music downstairs. Jukebox had 00's hits I hadn't seen for years. Subs were out of this world - fried chicken and gravy is to die for. Chip portions and toppings are generous.

Awesome as ever, love this old girl, one of my favourite gig haunts in Birmingham

Nice pub, good for a beer during the warm summer days. A bit outdated, but they have a good-sized terrace.

Great selection of beers and ciders. The food (by 6ixsubs) is delicious and popular with everyone in my group. Unique location on the canal, a little hidden away and around the corner from the busy Brindley Place. Outdoor seating is great on a sunny day. If inside, the music is usually a mix of rock/alternative rock/metal, fitting with the musical heritage of the pub. The pool tables are a bonus too (£1 per game as of writing this review).

Lovely canalside pub. An alternative and varied crowd. Great music and they have gigs at weekends. Lovely atmosphere with good outdoor seating downstairs and up on the balcony. Food is provided by "6 subs" so a small menu of really tasty, innovative and well cooked food. On Sundays they do sunday dinner in a sub, the strangest thing I've ever eaten but tasty, filling and very well made. Staff are really friendly and welcoming. There's a good selection of ales and ciders. Dog friendly. Just love it.

Was at the Flapper for the first time for a show. Bar area was excellent quick service and reasonable prices with plenty of seating available and would rate Five stars as somewhere to get a drink. Did not Eat here, the menu itself looked good. Marked low due to seating for the show. Most shows of this type (burlesque) operate general admission seating with you just selecting from the available seating when you arrive, others operate a system where you can select specific seats when booking. The Flapper Speakeasy burlesque show instead operates a system where you are assigned a specific seat with no ability to choose it so that despite arriving early to get a good seat and being the third person into the venue I found myself in the worst seats in the house which I would not have booked had I known this was where I would be seated. With three rows of tables between myself and the stage it was literally impossible to see anything from the seat except the backs of people's heads which blocked the view of the entire stage from left to right and from floor to ceiling. In order to see anything of the show it was necessary to stand throughout and was still unable to see acts whose routines included a lot of floor work or drops. Many of the acts I have seen before at other venues and found to be highly enjoyable but found they did not work here at least for people not sat in the front row. Of six burlesque shows/venues visited in the last month this is the only one I would not return to unless the seating system was changed so I could guarantee a front row seat.

Visited as part of the Birmingham Canals Pubs tour. We approached this venue from the Canalside (naturally on a canal tour...) and I must have spent a good five minutes trying to locate the entrance! My own fault and also aided in the thirst build up. Lovely spacious pub near Brindleyplace with lovely tiered beer garden section with some historic industrial artefacts on site to. Great view of the canal. A great place to enjoy a delicious pint!

Held a private event in the basement here and everyone had the best time. Thank you to the team for helping the Midlife Gamer gang have such a lovely evening. Would definitely recommend - and I'm sure we'll all come back too :)

I was at the Flapper and Firkin for a meet the author event for #NewStreetAuthors in Birmingham City centre on "the Cut". The Flapper is a little "gritty" being a biker and rock pub with live music every week. I am a great lover of Led Zeppelin and THE BEST Led Zep Tribute Fred Zeppelin is on at The Flapper on 29th December and I'm hoping to be at the gig as my wife Mary is a bigger Led Zeppelin fan than I am with her family The Sherwoods having known the Plant family for many years until fairly recently when Robert's aunty Gwen passed away as her late husband Uncle Stan was best friends with my late father in law George Sherwood. Mary danced with Robert at Uncle Stan's 70th birthday party at their house in Oakham, Dudley

Great great pub. Awesome friendly staff, great choice of beverages! The food is just mwah! Portions huge, fresh n piping hot. Lovely n tucked away down an old cobbled street, huge outdoor area n balcony overlooking the lovely view of the canal. Great crowd of all ages. Perfect for any occasion, very handy if you are going to a concert over the road.

Good prices, given the area. Decent selection of drinks (coming from someone who rarely drinks so take that with a grain of salt). The outdoor area is lovely. They serve fries and subs - they're decent according to my friend.

I agree this is a hidden gem! Great inside space perfect for event nights & lovely canalside terrace. Food was delicious! Huge wraps, loaded fries, Greek salad & their famous gravy or cheese sauce pots.... fabulous. Staff were first class too, all very friendly & helpful.

Friendly and welcoming, the staff are excellent and will always do their best to serve you quickly and well. The beer garden overlooking the canal is wonderful and the added balcony with benches in the alcoves provides some shade in the summer and a semi enclosed area in the winter. The drink choice is good, and 20% off Wednesday's is something you won't want to miss. There is a band room downstairs which caters to up and coming musicians with occasional open mic nights being put on. There is also an exceptional weekly quiz held at 8pm on Thursday nights, no rubbish speed phone quizzing here, paper and pens only! Overall this is a great place to come for a quick drink or seven and it's also dog friendly.

Great music venue and very good staff.

A large pub with a good selection of beers and a marvelous outside seating area by the canal. The staff are all friendly folk. Music tends towards the alternative, which is brilliant, but isn't played so loud that you have to shout to have a conversation. The food was incredible. The vegan aubergine wrap was delicious, and I heard good reports of the chicken and gravy wrap and fish wraps also. The chef I believe brings the food out, and he's a happy chappy too - and clearly talented!

The beef brisket loaded fries from here are something else. Couple that with cheap beer prices & lovely views over the canal, one of best pubs in the city centre

Excellent venue a stones throw away from the NIA. Large outside area and fantastic layout downstairs for gigs with excellent acoustic sound. Friendly quick serving staff and range of beers.

Great evening. Very friendly staff. Even the bouncers were very friendly and helpful. Cool gig venue. (could maybe do with a tad more rid range on the P A? Tops and bass all good but mid range a bit lost, but offered as a suggestion not a criticism. Cheers all👍🍻

Great pub and outdoor space along the canal. Broad selection of drinks that are good value for money. Tried some of the fried chicken today, which was really tasty and again, good value for money. Best pub to sit on the terrace and have a drink when the sun is out.

Well. Been here a few times now and it still bothers me that the bar staff can only manage one customer at a time. When I managed bars I taught staff to serve one customer and be taking the order from the next and taking payment from the previous. It's even easier now as almost everyone pays by card or phone and not all cash. Who are trading your staff, if anyone?

Great pub on the canalside. Loads of inside and outside seating space with a lovely view over the water. Staff are really friendly and the whole place was just really comfortable and clean. Drinks were super cheap and there was also a great selection of food available (we didn't eat but it looked fab). Also the music choices were top notch!

Honestly the best pub in Birmingham city centre. Lovely large beer garden situated right next to the canals. Fantastic selection of beers and ales as well as spirits. Prices are also far better than you would expect in a bar so close to the city centre. If you like your alternative music then the music here will be right up your alley.
