Will pick up and drop staff for absolutely no reason. Will also terminate staff for no apparent reason, without an explanation. The bosses wife is the issue in terms of management. She will choose which employees to treat with basic respect and if you don’t pass her test she is disgustingly rude to you for the remainder of your time there and makes it her prerogative to make you uncomfortable. A huge shame because the pub itself is lovely as are the barmaids, regulars and boss.

Brilliant pub with amazing selection of beers for all tastes whether craft or trad. Good selection of Belgian beers too. The landlord is a hoot and really makes the visit personal and special, at least in my experience! Try the Gravedigger mild. It's a fantastically well made mild with a silky texture and light, yet prominent woody/nutty flavour from the malt but the beer is light enough to enjoy as a session. A well kept secret is that the landlord still sells this beer at £2.10 due to making a drunk promise 5 years ago that he wouldn't raise the price of it. Please find attached a picture I got of the reflection of my phone against a pint of said mild.

Been several years since I drank here. Excellent "old" boozer not changed much I'm glad to say. Wonderful pint of mild other drinks available.

Great jazz, nice pub. Just needs a bit of a rethink.. It’s great that the pub’s weekly jazz night is so popular, but at a certain point you have to acknowledge that you don’t have the supply (of space) to meet your demand. From my pov it’s an obvious problem that needs solving, but they might be happy that it has a crammed atmosphere and you’re either in or out, sort of thing. But Its a shame when you make the journey over and you can’t get a look-in. On the same note, one gents toilets for the whole pub is not enough either. Also, barwoman pointed at me and said “you can wait” whilst she chatted to someone. Made me laugh to be honest 😂 All in all, The old traditional pub vibe is great but at some point you have to try and modernise the bits that need it.

Been a few times for the jazz session on a Tuesday night. It’s £5 a head (someone comes round to take the money) and the quality of music is really outstanding. Drinks are more than reasonable and there’s a real buzz about the place.

Lovely guinness. Big area out the back. Unfortunately I was hitting a wall when I visited and was completely in the horrors. Will return again in better spirits please god

One of the best Irish pubs in the UK and one of the best boozers in Birmingham. Amazing atmosphere, lovely garden, friendly staff, great events. If you are around Birmingham you cannot miss this place.

The members of staff are absolutely lovely along side the beer which is absolutely fantastic. The bar maid Cara (the curly hair gothic one with the tattoos) was absolutely amazing and poured lovely drinks - this girl needs a pay rise! The land lord (John I believe) is a lovely chap and made us feel very welcome with his fun loving Irish spirit ☘️ The drinks were well priced and were served in clean glasses. The inside is traditional and authentic and the outside is lovely, open and brilliant for socialising. I couldn’t recommend it anymore. The best traditional Irish pub in the UK! 10/10 price, 10/10 staff, 10/10 service, 10/10 service.

Excellent quality beer at great prices. Very warm staff that make strangers feel very welcome. It's become my number one drinking hole.

A proper traditional hipster pub, so painfully cool and full of creative types. Fantastic atmosphere with really great live music. A quirky little pub inside with a large outdoor area. It could do with some more loos and better beers but still a smashing place. Parking is a bit of a mare but get a taxi as you shouldn't drink and drive.

The spotted dog is a nice and cozy pub in Digbeth. It does looks small from the outside but there is a courtyard at the back where a live Jazz band plays I think every Tuesday. It was surprisingly jam packed for a weekday. There was no vacant seat in sight when we arrived. Granted that we arrived a bit late and all. The music was soothing although the talks and bantering made it difficult to totally focus on the music. All in all, it was a lovely experience. Definitely going to try again some other time.

Been drinking in and around Birmingham for many years and have often passed by this pub- it looks like it closed. Nice little hidden gem- large beer garden. This time my husband and i decided to go and have a drink.- staff very welcoming not like some of the pubs around Birmingham.

Nice pub, friendly staff. Quite a small but still a good selection of drinks, including cask ales. Large outdoor seating area with quirky decor, all undercover.

A pub I’ve been to a few times as it’s close to where I work and popular with coworkers. Good choice of drinks, friendly staff, and candles on all the tables made a nice touch, although they weren’t lit. It was strangely quiet for a Friday night, so the atmosphere lacked a bit, but it did make getting served quicker. Bit of a strange musty smell in the air too.

Great traditional pub in the heart of old Birmingham. A place with real character. The out door space is a must visit for surprises.

A really great "proper" pub with good choice of beer and cider, really tasty scotch eggs & friendly service. Lots of space & safe for bikes to be brought inside. My new favourite pub in Brum.

This place is pretty nice, it's traditional looking with all the old skool Nik naks, the garden is wonderful as it's massive and prettily decorated. Prices are decent my only issue is when I entered I sat down for a couple of minutes as it was hot outside to get my bearings and felt a little pressured to buy a drink straight away. Other than that it's a nice place

A Digbeth pub where Aunt Polly had quite a few gins in the Peaky Blinders TV series. Nice pub with a great beer garden. Very busy and absolutely buzzing on match days.

The Spotted Dog is one of the best pubs in Birmingham, great down to earth atmosphere and staff. It's a great place to have a few pints without breaking the bank. Good sized beer garden too so plenty of space to sit.

Great place for drink and also very good pub snacks. Tasty different types of scotch eggs on offer.

Very quiet for a match day which surprised me as it used to be very busy in deed. Guess the falling crowd at St Andrews has contributed to this. Still a great pint of Guinness though xx

Good real ale pub. Does get quite full due to being small pub, but always quite a few staff working

Great pub, of the beaten track for visitors, but with finding! Good range of ales and an interesting selection of bottled beers. Bar staff are lovely, happy to let you sample the asked before committing to buy. There was live jazz the evening I visited.
