My
fiancé
and
I
decided
to
come
here
for
lunch
as
a
birthday
gift
and
we
were
glad
we
did.
I
was
telephoned
the
day
before
asking
about
dietary
requirements
and
which
menu
we
wished
to
have,
but
we
hadn't
had
the
chance
to
look.
The
next
day
we
were
welcomed
to
Opheem
by
a
lovely
waiter
who
showed
us
to
our
seats
in
the
bar
situated
away
from
the
dining
area.
The
layout
is
open
and
spacious,
very
modern
and
unpretentious.
It
was
nearly
30
degrees
outside
and
the
restaurant
was
perfectly
cool.
The
decor
had
dark
walls
with
bright
furniture
and
soft
beats
playing
in
the
background,
a
that
theme
is
followed
throughout
the
entire
restaurant.
We
were
asked
to
choose
from
a
range
of
menus:
a
la
carte
or
5/10
dish
tasting
menus.
We
opted
for
a
la
carte
with
some
mocktails
to
begin.
The
drinks
were
light,
tasty
and
refreshing,
necessary
on
what
was
one
of
the
hottest
days
of
the
year.
We
had
to
wait
nearly
40
minutes
for
our
first
set
of
amuse
bouches
to
arrive,
which
we
did
think
was
too
long,
especially
as
other
guests
who
arrived
after
us
were
being
served
before
us
-
we
had
assumed
our
wait
was
due
to
us
having
chisen
our
menu
on
the
day.
The
amuse
bouches
were
tasty
and
varied:
a
spicy
oyster
cream,
a
small
ice
cream
sorbet
and
a
crispy
snack.
We
were
then
led
into
the
dining
area
and
were
sat
to
the
side
of
a
large,
spacious
room
-
to
the
left-hand
side
was
the
kitchen
behind
a
glass
wall,
so
you
can
see
the
chefs
prepare
your
food,
very
current
and
trendy.
From
here,
our
food
and
drink
was
served
in
a
timely
manner.
My
starter
was
a
beef
salad
served
with
smoke
under
a
klosh,
my
partner
had
a
fantastic
crab
dish
with
a
knockout
spicy
sauce.
Mains
were
also
of
a
high
standard,
mine
a
chicken
and
stuffed
onion
(superb)
curry
and
my
fiancé
had
a
fish
curry.
Dessert
for
me
was
a
subtle
pear
dish,
a
little
too
subtle,
but
my
partners
was
a
light,
but
punchy
strawberry
dish.
Wine
was
topped
up
all
throughout
the
meal,
a
quaffable
light
white
wine
that
you
could
sink
all
day.
My
fiancé
had
non-alcoholic
pairings
-
juicy
tea
based
drinks.
On
the
whole,
we
enjoyed
the
experience.
A
few
areas
of
improvement
would
be
the
wait
time
between
bar
and
dining,
also
some
staff
wear
their
masks
correctly,
some
incorrectly
and
some
not
at
all.
I
think
consistency
is
key
in
top
restaurants
and
could
put
some
diners
off.
The
food
and
drink
were
great.
If
you
have
been
to
other
starred
restaurants
in
Birmingham
(Adam's,
Purnell's),
I'd
say
this
is
a
contender,
but
not
the
best,
yet.
