Enjoyed a birthday lunch here, mid week. Didn’t book but was welcomed in, plenty of tables available. Service was great and food was excellent! X

Not much I can really add on here that hasn't already been covered in previous positive reviews. Great venue (those photos on the hall of fame are spectacular!), great service, a HUGE menu with amazing food. This is a restaurant you must visit if you ever visit Birmingham.

Very bad experience here. We ordered two expensive main. The lamb chops were charred and bitter, and four of them were very small, stale and chewy. After discussion with the waiter to change a new one, it is a pity that the second time there is no change. The sauce is not good either, without any character or surprise. I can tell you, I can make it better at home. It really makes me extremely disappointed with this restaurant, which is out of proportion to its appearance and price. Lobster pasta is just so-so. At least it doesn't taste bitter. The pasta sauce is flat and bland, the lobster is half, and the lobster and pasta are separate, without any connection. No lobster. This is a five-pound plate of unsavory pasta. I can't believe this is their specialty. It sucks. The service was also poor. The waiters didn't ask how we ate or offer to refill our water. One young man, when I asked if it was normal to have a slice of fried lemon inside the fried calamari, said impatiently that it was. A store that really let me down. All in all, I won't come back again or recommend it to any of my friends. It is clearly a good atmosphere of high-end chain resrestaurants, did not expect such a level. So sad for them

The decor is good, the food was so-so, but the service really needs improvement. San Carlo likes to make a fuss about their "all Italian staff" (which I doubt is true) and how "passionate they are about authentic Italian food" but I wasn't impressed with the tiger prawn starter that arrived 15 minutes after everyone else's starter and which I suspect was microwaved from frozen (I was hoping to get freshly fried prawns instead). The lamb was okay and so was the rest of the food, but as other reviews suggested not the "real thing" if you're expecting a decent Italian. Staff didn't make efforts to check in on us, e.g to replenish the water or ask a different party who were making a lot of noise with their children's toys to quiet it down which was disappointing. I found them to be rather unfriendly overall. We did appreciate the cloth napkins and tablecloths and the birthday gestures but for the prices they charge, I really can't rate this higher than a 2 out of 5. My suggestion would be to trim down the menu to 5-10 more refined starters and mains, train staff better and sort out the acoustics so it's less noisy.

Had good service here, the decor was nice and the food was good. Can't justify giving this place 5 stars as the food didn't really lice upto the prices. The tiramisu was not that great so was a little bit disappointed. The arancini however was very tasty as was the pasta. Overall a decent place to come for a nice Italian meal.

I didn't really research the dishes before I went so I made the mistake of ordering the buffalo mozzarella starter which comes on smoked aubergine but is served stone cold which was very unexpected 😅 I'm sure it's a lovely dish but it wasn't to my taste. Main course I had the fillet steak wrapped in palma ham with a truffle sauce, the steak was cooked to my perfection so cannot fault this dish. I had a side of saute potatoes which were lovely. 5 stars for the restaraunt as they were very fast, the waiters were friendly and helpful and overall its a lovely atmosphere.

Very nice setting and sweet servers however the food is always a hit or miss. Most of the dishes lack flavour, except for the burrata pizza which is amazing. Overall a nice place to go to for occasions just don't expect too much from the food.

Had been desperate to go for quite some time and have to say was sadly disappointed it is very overrated. Been to far to far better Italian restaurants for less money. Felt no attention to detail sides etc are extra, drinks are extortionate, felt crowded and lacked atmosphere. The restaurant setting is nothing like the advert.

Had been looking forward to this all week, looked for a nice restaurant to take my parents to and San Carlo seemed to tick the right boxes. Was busy and bustling, a great atmosphere to walk into. Ordered lobster, fillet steak, calzone and mixed grill. Lobster was fabulous, mixed the cooking preferences of the meat up between fillet steak and mixed grill. Also incorrect drinks order. Server for the first half of the meal was fairly grumpy and had a strong smell of cigarettes when leaning in to clear the table, the second server was personable, passionate and left us with a smile! All in all, was alright but wouldn’t be rushing back in the near future.

Its a really fancy Italian restaurant. The supervisor Carmelo is a very kindly funny sweet gentleman. And the all of waiters in there are sooo friendly as well. They give us a memorable experiences.

I can't argue the service, decor and the food, but I can't also justify 5 stars. Nothing special about service, food or even decor. Not the wow you might want, but certainly not a total disappointment. Perhaps our standards are just too high, but then again I've been to better. As a stand alone Italian everything we ordered from seabass to scallops were tasty. Perhaps maybe a little too over priced and so you just expect something to jump off your plate at the prices you pay.

For starter I had Fegatini di Pollo (chicken liver), which was good, but the toast was too dry. For my main dish, I had Coda di Rospo 'Nduja (monkfish) with Sautéed potatoes on the side. The fish was overcooked and lacked distinct flavor. The potatoes seemed more like they were oven baked and not sautéed, with no fat used, making them dry and flavorless. A highlight was the tiramisu, which thankfully lived up to expectations. The service was really bad, with six different people serving us and none of them seemed to know what they were doing.

Always a peril of dining out during Christmas shopping silly season. The restaurant was very busy and whilst the team were very pleasant, you couldn't help but feel like you were on a conveyor belt and the sooner you left, the better. 2 out of the 3 pasta dishes we ordered were good, one unfortunately was barely warm but edible none the less. We didn't mention it as we were eating as one person would have been eating after everyone else had finished if the Dosh was replaced. We mentioned it as we were cleared and the team did flag that they would have tried to remedy the situation. It was my first visit to a San Carlo, I have to admit, I probably wouldn't seek out another. Even if all 3 dishes had been a reasonable temperature, the experience fell a little short and flat for me.

Always a fantastic experience, the food was immense last night, its not often I walk away from a restaurant as content as I did last night. A perfect setting for our anniversary, this place never disappoints. A favourite of mine in Birmingham for sure. Made to feel welcome as always, friendly staff who were on the ball! See you soon

First time at this restaurant, and I loved it. The staff were lovely and attentive. The food was incredible, especially the arancini, the best I've ever had! The wine was perfect, and the decor was modern and a great atmosphere. It won't be the last time I go!

I love the atmosphere here, beautiful space with celebrities on the wall of fame, haha The food is good, I had seafood pasta and loved it. The starter came off a little pricey (Crunchy squid and king prawn and shrimps) But tastes divine. I’ll definitely recommend this place for pasta lovers, be sure to check their menu prices before ordering 😜.

Went to San Carlo for my birthday meal back in March and the food was absolutely cooked perfectly. The staff was welcoming and friendly, happy to help. It was a very classy experience for a birthday meal occasion.

Fantastic place ! We have the San Carlo antipasto to share amongst three of us with some mix breads ! The olive bread was our big favorite, so fresh, so delicious 🤤 Then as a main I have the ravioli with truffles and oh to say, the flavour was just fantastic. The prices are worth the quality of the food you’ve get served! We’ll be back for sure

This was my first time at San Carlos last night. I booked the table for myself and my friends. The food was so delicious, one of the best pasta dishes. The atmosphere was great, and the staff there were so nice and attentive. The whole evening was beautiful. San Carlos offers a huge choice for vegetarians, which was brilliant. Great select of wine too. 🥂

I've been eating here, on and off, for decades, during which many other restaurants, some superb, have ascended spectacular heights only to eventually fade and disappear. Yet, San Carlo Birmingham persists. This got me thinking. How? I believe the answer is consistency. Yes, there are alternatives, with hot chefs creating amazing dishes, but they soon burn out. Or, if they continue their prices, along with their availability become inaccessible. Yet San Carlo is still there. Reasonably priced well prepared food in a great atmosphere, and usually a table can be found if you walk up. Clearly they have a loyal following, this place seems to thrive, not only in the busy hours, but also during the quiet times of late afternoon and early evening. Underpinning everything here is the first class service, delivered by a cohort of professional and friendly staff. 'I'll be back' and may the years smile with favour on this venerable eatery.

The ambience of San Carlo is fab - we went for lunch for my moms birthday so it was suitable for the whole fam. There is a lot of choice with the menu so you’re sure to find something that suits you if you have any dietary restrictions - wasn’t overly impressed with dessert but loved my main

Good cocktails! Their negroni was perfectly mixed. The chocolate cake is phenomenal and tiramisu can’t go miss. Our waitress was lovely, wish I remembered her name but she was Italian. If I’m the bullring this is a great place to stop off whilst shopping and is located In Selfridges.

Lovely seafood menu and always great. One of the few places in Birmingham that serves oysters, I love the way they present them.

This really is a lovely laidout restaurant, the service was ok but nothing more than that. Nothing wrong with the food either an average restaurant. The reason I have only given it 2 stars is that the prices that are charged I would expect a better standard of food and quantity of ingredients were also lacking. 4 of us dined with 3 courses and drinks and all agreed that standard of food was not what the price would suggest. There are too many better restaurants in the area for us to be rushing back to San Carlo's.

Absolutely amazing place, food and service can't fault it, you get exactly what you pay for and 3 people 4 courses and drinks and coffee £228 was reasonably priced, staff were friendly and didnt rush us, atmosphere is addictive and we will definitely come back, there is nothing I'd change about this wonderful place, door staff was very polite and friendly, 100% recommended

Can't recommend enough, 100% amazing staff, food and service, a total fine dining experience, and nothing was any trouble for them, we will definitely come again soon

Amazing food, price is definitely worth it. We sat near the wall which was amazing as it was a mini anniversary dinner. Staff were semi okay, no complaints. Food was cooked fresh, and the flavour was just “wow”. Reason being a 4/5 star is the fishy smell in the restaurant. They do serve fresh fish which would explain it but it does give the customers a fishy smell whilst eating, even if you did not order it! Overall amazing place! Will be visiting again!
