Search
for
Chinese
restaurants
in
Birmingham
and
the
China
Court
will
likely
appear
at
the
top
of
the
list
-
a
"large,
authentic,
Chinese
culinary
experience".
We
rocked
up
at
roughly
20:00,
on
a
Wednesday
evening
during
the
holidays,
to
find
just
three
tables
occupied.
We
waited
for
a
while
before
someone
noticed
us.
Once
they
did,
we
waited
a
little
longer
while
they
tried
to
find
a
free
table
among
the
fifty-odd
vacant
ones.
Eventually
we
were
seated
and
'encouraged'
to
order
quickly
as
the
kitchen
was
meant
to
close
by
21:00.
With
almost
as
many
diners
as
there
were
waiters,
our
expectations
for
food
were
not
high.
Thankfully,
we
were
pleasantly
surprised.
Our
food
arrived,
understandably,
quite
quickly.
It
was
of
a
fantastic
quality,
my
only
gripe
being
the
slightly
dry
crispy
duck.
Aside
from
the
duck,
we
ordered
black
pepper
chicken
and
noodles,
a
dumpling
platter,
sweet
and
sour
crispy
chicken,
and
egg
fried
rice.
To
summise,
and
as
a
rule
of
thumb,
if
a
place
isn't
filled
with
patrons,
chances
are
the
food
isn't
great.
But,
sometimes,
you
can
be
pleasantly
suprised.
The
only
question
then
becomes
whether
you
want
to
give
a
place
a
chance.
China
Court
isn't
fine
dining.
In
fact
it
isn't
even
a
great
dining
experience.
But,
if
you're
after
a
decent
Chinese
sit
down,
you
could
easily
do
worse
in
Birmingham's
Chinese
Quarter.
