Very beautifulnold architecture. It opens on selct times. You have tonsee the windows. The doors are old wood and beautifully placed. This church is in middle of a cemetary and people come and sit with coffee and sit on the benches, there are a lot of cafes and fast food joints around. One of the must see places in birmingham

Saw coldplay orchestral renditions on Saturday evening by candle light. Very atmosphere as it gets dark and acoustics were great. There was an open bar available. Venue isn't massive but nice for an intimate gig. I had a restricted view seating in zone D, doesn't really matter as was there to hear the music.

Amazing! The gentleman who was looking after the cathedral on Tuesday 1st of August was awesome, very knowledgeable, kind and patient in answering my many questions! Worth a visit, lovely looking cathedral and the stained glass windows are stunning. The gentleman allowed my partner and I to throw on hardhats and a high Vis vest to walk up the steps of the scaffolding and look up close, while giving us a rundown of the history. Lovely green grass and trees outside, makes for a great photo. Worth a stop if you're wandering around the city.

St Philip's is one of the smaller cathedrals, upgraded from a parish church when Birmingham was made a city. Originally built in 1715, it is a masterpiece of Baroque architecture, with a lovely light interior and wonderful stained glass by Edward Burns Jones. As well as regular services and special events, its gentle acoustic makes it a fine concert venue. Standing amidst the Colmore Row shopping area, the landscaped churchyard is also a pleasant place to relax in the middle of a busy day.

St Phillips Cathedral were very welcoming and opened to different faiths and backgrounds to participate in their Sunday service. As a Hindu, I participated and learnt so much more about the Christian faith, received blessings from the Priest who gave me communion (the bread). I would definitely visit again, it made me feel closer to Jesus and being connected to him. If anyone wants to visit the cathedral, I definitely recommend anyone from different faiths to visit and definitely attend the ceremony to gain experience of the christian faith. I learnt so much whilst attend the Sunday ceremony, the prayers and the music was very melodious, better than any other music I've heard. Definitely do visit the cathedral.

Very beautiful Cathedral, went to a candle light Vivaldi's 4 seasons concert , very talented musicians, but not as many candles as featured in the advert, just two candelabras, but music and setting were stunning

Came here on the eve of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II funeral. My girlfriend signed the book of remembrance and I lit a candle and a donation in the coin box. The flowers and words of support were very pleasant to see and read outside the cathedral.

Visited for the first time for a Fever candlelight concert performed by The Sekine Quartet. The staff were really welcoming and friendly. Organisation of the event was extremely smooth and the ambience was perfect. Beautiful interior and such a nice calming environment for everyone of all ages to visit, would defo recommend. There is a notice board with a list of all their events, at the front of the church - the side with the two doors (opposite to the end closest to McDonalds)

Fantastic place to spend peaceful time or enjoy a play. Right in middle city centre. Take away from all the rush and city centre noise. Been to this church few times 🙏🏼❤️💐

I went into Birmingham Cathedral whilst I was staying in the City. It is absolutely beautiful in there. They are currently restoring the beautiful stained glass windows. These pre raphaelite windows were designed by Edmund Burne Jones As I went in on Maundy Thursday the organist was practising for the Easter services. The entry price is free as well, not like some other Cathedrals I have visited.

As cathedrals go this is very small in comparison to most and I love cathedrals . But it is a really lovely building and has some gorgeous pre Raphaelite stained glass windows by Sir Edward burne Jones and William Morris . Plus this is my home town and I love it , also Saint Chad's the Catholic cathedral is close by so visit them both they are both beautiful . Well worth a look if you are in Brum . Plus they sometimes hold concerts there and the atmosphere is serene and lovely .

Very nice looking cathedral in city centre, has some lovely stain glass windows and not one but two organs .My favourite was the marble (I presume) pillars .Went to see Vivaldi Four Seasons played by candle light .Not mamy candles though just two candelabra which was a bit of a let down. It was very very good ,extremely talented musicians. Pachelbel,Mozart and Bach were also on the agenda .Unfortunately I overheard someone saying he had come to listen to Vivaldi and not Bach ,but you can't please everyone I suppose ,there was a large audience who enjoyed the night .All in all a fab evening

I enjoyed visiting the Cathedral, although the Burne-Jones stained glass windows are currently being restored and it was not possible to see them. The Cathedral is a peaceful place. Entry is free, with the option to make a donation.

Quite a small cathedral but very nice inside. We were able to do a scaffold tour to see 3 of the stained glass windows up close whilst they're being conserved. Absolutely amazing.

Cathedral in the centre of Birmingham with very pleasant staff. Quite small compared to other cathedrals I’ve been to, with very few stained glass windows. Still worth a visit ⛪️

This is a nice place at the center of Birmingham, the cathedral is peaceful and quiet inside. And has a nice garden. I enjoy sitting down and relaxing.

Beautiful cathedral both inside and out, and situated in the middle of the only bit of greenery in the city centre. The highlight is the impressive stained glass windows.

Very beautiful Neoclassical cathedral with huge colourful stained glass windows by Burne Jones. Lovely crucifix and candle sticks by modern artist Peter Eugene Ball.

  • 5/5 Paul H. 9 months ago on Google
The reason why I visited St. Philips's Cathedral was to view the Stained Glass Windows which are currently undergoing cleaning and restoration. Until September you are able to view the iconic windows designed by Edward Burne-Jones up close. A marvelous opportunity which should not be missed Today was the first day the viewing platform was open and I found the Guides to be both enthusiastic and knowledgeable. I intend to revisit before the platform is closed in September.

A Divine place for worship.... so peaceful and elegant. In the center of Birmingham city. A Church raised to be the Cathedral in a town which became a city. Built in 1715, with order from parliament in 1708. Raised as Cathedral in 1905. The Western and Eastern painted Windows are a treat for your eyes. Also, I may list down different things.... but try visiting by yourself at once.

Small and beautiful cathedral in the city center. There is some nice and beautiful stained glass window, which was kept in safe location during world war. Currently ongoing repair and restoration of the window. Free entry with a park surrounding the cathedral. Can visit Great Western Arcade afterwards, which is less than 5 min walking distance. #stphilip #cathedral #birmingham #city #travel #glasswindow #park

A magnificent Landmark located right at the heart of Birmingham ! Renovated and restored in very nice conditions for centuries, really stands out in the city centre to be representing the significance of Christianity and assembling regular worship for the community.

Tbh on first sight I slightly prejudged this cathedral. It looked somewhat small and uninteresting. Fortunately I didn't walk past and instead was wowed by this english baroque masterpiece. The main thing in here is the Edward burne Jones windows. They are simply stunning. Thankfully during the war they were removed and put in hiding so we can still enjoy them now . The cathedral is beautiful and not as over the top as some baroque designs I have witnessed. In the graveyard there is a memorial to the victims of the IRA pub bombings in 1974. At the time I went there was a lovely Xmas Market through the grounds. Again if in the area , we'll worth a visit

(Translated by Google) It is a place in the city center where you can stop for a while to rest. Despite being in the center of Birmingham, it manages to be a calm and very pleasant place, the cathedral itself helps a lot to make the place simply amazing. A nice looking cathedral. I only saw the outside of St Philips Cathedral, as at the time of visiting Birmingham I didn't have the time to go inside. I thought the outside looks really nice. I am hoping thats the cathedral is just as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside.

Great to come at a time when a free tour was due to start. Thanks Martin - you enlivened the visit for us. The four Burne Jones stained glass panels/windows are just fabulous. Look out for the red wings of the angels. And then a lunchtine concert that has sent us away to look up and listen again to Beethoven Cello sonatas. Many thanks .
