Absolutely beautiful, love the walkway , the trail meanders through the bog which is teaming with wildlife. The trees and flora just amazing at anytime of year. So good to come here again after so many years away. Lovely to see kids playing , families wandering and older folk like myself strolling about. This is a hidden gem in Brum. Parking is easy and free.

A picturesque walk through the legendary Moseley Bog upon which Tolkien is believed to have based his famous realm, Middle-Earth. Its a beautiful little gem of Birmingham which you and any children in your family will enjoy exploring. It contains walking paths, trees, swamps, bogs and trickles of water and streams here and there. As I often say... "NOT ALL THOSE WHO WANDER ARE LOST."

Went as part of an archaeological walk organised by the Friends of Moseley Bog. Fascinating place, from the burnt mounds to the mill pond, the remains of greenhouses and clay pits. We'll organised, well maintained and well used.

Brilliant place for a walk, whatever the weather. Lots of boardwalks and bridges, so no need to get too muddy, but lots of opportunities to get muddy if you want to.

A lovely place for a walk. There are wooden walk ways over the wetter places. It is ajoined by Joy's Wood. This area is where Tolkien spent time as a child and is reported to be the inspiration for Big Wood featured in his writings.

A wonderful prehistoric walk, you expect a pterodactyl to come swooping down at any minute! Parking can be a challenge in the lower car park which is very small but a large car park is available up on the top field. Although there is a wooden walkway running through the bog, nevertheless, wheelchair users would definitely need assistance.

Nice park for jogging, walking, taking photos and even short picnics I guess. It needs some facilities like toilet though.

Literally breath taking! Looks very tiny on the map and didn't think it would be a nice park as it is in the middle of a congested area. Once I was in, I started to wonder where was I?! Really nice park, sort of nature reserve forest style, there is free small car park if you manage to spot it.

Took toddler with pram here as was told it was accessable. it was as long as you stick to the slated or patched bits. Lots of off road to explore if you have older kids or bringing your dogs. Really peaceful setting great for a mental health walk!!! And to feel relaxed. No benches or facilities however so I took a thermos and some biscuits and drink for the little one. He loved the nature. Tried to include some photos so you can see the paths

I love this place, it has such a magical vibe and you can really feel why and how it inspired Tolkein. Although it's a relatively small area it feels like you can get lost looking for the pea soup coloured swamp through forested boardwalks. There are some lovely grassy areas when many locals gather on the solstice and for private get togethers, a playing field and the river Cole walk is very near too if you want to make a day of scenic ramblings.

Great place for a wonder round, especially on a rainy day. Pathways are clear and well marked on the maps. Small car park but there is another larger one nearby. Bring your wellies for a good wonder round!

Beautiful walk through the bog and if you stand and listen the birds are always chirping. There's lots of wildlife to see if you take the time to look. Interesting flora and fauna and as a lot of people know it's the inspiration for the lord of the rings hobbit. Take a visit on a sunny day and enjoy the air and if your lucky you may see frogs newts and lizards. Butterflies and dragonfly's and very pretty damselflies.

Everyone loved this pocket of nature in the middle of Birmingham. Lovely even in the rain. Parking good. Walkways make it possible to walk all the way round in a little over an hour

Small but absolutely beautiful. I like to go on solo forest walks so sometimes can feel intimidated, but felt completely safe here. Doesn't get very busy other than dog walkers. Car park is very small, enough for only about 3 cars, but has other free parking nearby. It's a nice little treasure in the middle of Birmingham, and surprisingly peaceful. My son loved spotting the wood carvings throughout.

Spent a lovely hour or so walking around. Easy to see how Tolkien was inspired by this place!! It's beautiful. Most of the bog has wide walkways with gentle/small slopes so it's accessible.

    It's a good area to take a walk.... relaxing... calming...😊...but no toilets....I won't really recommend a picnic...but maybe a brief stop...and some photos.

  • 2/5 Dave c. 1 year ago on Google
Such a shame that its being gentrified like it is. Walkways and fences everywhere you look. Cutting back trees and bushes so visitors dont have to get too close to nature. Looks good on instagram though which is all that matters!! Its lost its rugged appeal that it once had.

Moseley Bog is a hidden gem located in Birmingham, UK, that offers a peaceful and unique escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. As a volunteer, I had the opportunity to witness the beauty and diversity of this natural reserve firsthand. The bog is home to various wildlife, including birds, insects, and mammals, making it an ideal spot for nature enthusiasts and bird watchers. The well-maintained pathways and informative signage make it easy to navigate the bog's different habitats and learn about its ecological significance. What I loved most about my experience volunteering at Moseley Bog was the sense of community and togetherness among the volunteers and staff. Everyone was friendly and passionate about preserving the bog's natural beauty and educating visitors about its importance. The volunteering tasks were varied and suited for all ages and abilities, making it an inclusive and accessible activity for everyone. Whether it's clearing invasive species or planting new trees, every task was rewarding and contributed to the bog's conservation. In conclusion, Moseley Bog is a fantastic destination for those seeking a peaceful retreat and a deeper appreciation for nature. The reserve offers a unique opportunity to explore the beauty and diversity of a bog ecosystem while contributing to its conservation efforts. As a volunteer, I gained valuable skills, made new friends, and felt a sense of fulfillment in helping to protect this beautiful natural reserve for future generations to enjoy.

First time visiting this little gem of a place. It was larger than I expected, and wonderful to wander all the different trails. The bluebells are out in abundance at this time of year, and the lush green woodland and it's creatures are truly worth your time and appreciation πŸ’š

Nice walk around Mosley bog. I usually change my route every time I go. Lovely to hear the birds chirping and watching the squirrels. There are no benches which would be nice but not a big deal. Love this place.

Beautiful nature filled walk around the childhood joy of Tolkien, exploring the walkways and woodlands of Mosely is lovely and peaceful and fantastic for dogs, kids, partners or just by your self. There's an abundance of wildlife to witness throughout the year and different seasons. A real joy to have on your doorstep. Parking is minimal, no public facilities. Not at all suitable for wheelchair access or those with mobility issues, very muddy and multiple pathways that require a steady foot. Perfect for dogs and kids to explore though, it is a bog after all.

Moseley Bog, the forest with a toddler-tested seal of approval! If you're looking for a quick escape from urban chaos, this little haven offers an hour of blissful respite. But before you set off, remember, finding a parking spot is like a game of forest bingo – be prepared to park off the beaten path and embark on your adventure. Once inside, it's like entering another world. This charming woodland offers a mix of leafy sanctuaries and pint-sized green meadows, perfect for your little explorer to frolic in. The star attractions? Meandering streams that mirror your toddler's zigzagging path, and a mystic swamp that may or may not be home to enchanted creatures. Accessibility is key for parents, and Moseley Bog doesn't disappoint. The well-maintained footpaths are as smooth as a toddler's bedtime story, making it a breeze for buggies to navigate. As you stroll, nature's orchestra serenades you with a symphony of bird songs, a melodious background for your forest adventure. And then there's the 'mushy smell.' That earthy, comforting aroma is the forest's way of giving you a warm, leafy hug. In a nutshell, Moseley Bog is a tiny but enchanting escape where your toddler can explore, splash in puddles, and you can soak in the tranquility of nature. Just hold your little one's hand, follow the footprints, and let the forest work its magic.

Lovely park, there is a nice big field, lots of friendly people and dogs, and the forest is very nice to walk around as well. There is a little stream where my dog loves to play in and there are so little hidden side passages throughout which are fun to discover!

A lovely place. Strange that I always visit this area during same time of the year each times. Snowing made it Heaven. Would be back in summer!!!!!

Moseley Bog is very muddy, so a good place to come if you love mud and wildlife, Although boardwalks have been placed above the bog there will be occasions when you will need to step off to let people pass in the opposite direction, especially in times of Covid and at weekends when the space gets full of families and dogs.

Great place to go for a walk, trails are well maintained. We took the dog, he loved it in the stream and mud. Unfortunately there are no dog poo bins, they could easily be placed at the main entrance off Yardley Wood Road.
