We know that some people might be nervous of heading into the darkness underground. If this applies to someone in your group, please be assured that the boats have lights fitted which are left on for most of the trip, and can be kept on if necessary – please let us know before you visit. We can also provide a ‘magic lantern’ for guests to borrow free of charge for their trip which we’ve found can help them feel braver when taking the trip underground. These lanterns have a soft and reassuring glow. Please get in touch before you visit if you think you may wish to borrow a lantern and we can have it ready for you when you arrive. Visual Impairments Our boat tour is available with special narration for the visually impaired by prior booking only – please give us a call to book. Hearing Impairments The boat tour is available in a written format for people with hearing impairment. Please enquire before your visit so we can ensure one is waiting for you on the day of your visit. A hearing loop is available in The Gongoozler, at the ticket desk and in our function room. Please set devices to T. Quieter Boat Trips We appreciate that some individuals may find crowds and noise distressing. Our quieter times are midweek during term time. Our quietest 45 minute boat trips are in the morning at 10.30 and 11.00 however we do have pre-booked school groups visiting on some days, so please ring before your visit for more information.

We took our 6 and 9 year old daughters on the Santa trip last week. From start to finish the whole experience was planned perfectly. The boat trip was great, with festive music and wonderfully lit up tunnels, with a fun and entertaining panto in the middle. Santa was great, talkative and friendly. Great coffee for the adults and a gift shop at the end. 100% recommend for a special Santa visit. Will be returning in the summer for a historic tour.

We visited for the Tots Tunnels morning on a Wednesday. It was really well organised, the trip was brilliant with nursery rhymes and a story. All of this was only £1 too, which is just amazing! The cafe was brilliant - it was clean and the coffee and cake were delicious. It was really busy but the staff were excellent, they were friendly and efficient and we didn't have to wait long at all. We will definitely visit again!

Super fun experience on the canal cruise! Totally not what i expected! They take you into the caverns with so many different shows. Really interesting! I can highly recommend this if you want to relax and not walk all over in the museum.

Great experience and an amazing slice of history. My companion was a friend with severe visual impairment. The staff were just brilliant. They were helpful and accommodating, not once doubting her ability to cope with the barge or enjoy the experience, despite being blind. She highly recommends it.

Great littletime out with the family, suitable for all age groups we have an 8,12 and 17 year old and all enjoyed it. Guide does a good job of being informative and also humourous. Interesting place to find out some genuine black country history.

Nice and unusual boat ride. Well worth the £10 ticket. Unsuitable if you have claustrophobia. The guide guys makes it fun however some of the fellow passenrgers found the dark humour about child labour weird.

Visited the tunnels on a Saturday, was a very interesting experience. We got our tickets at the office downstairs where you can also get souvenirs, tickets cost £10 per person. Our scheduled boarding time was 2.20 while the boat set off at 2.30. We were told so many amazing stories of how the tunnels worked back in the days , saw some amazing clips and so many more. Definitely a worthwhile experience for adults and children. There is also a restaurant where you can grab a bite.

This was an excellent experience , I started here then onto the Black Country Museum .I arrived around 10:00 in time for the 10:30 trip , I was the only person onboard , Stuart and Simon were great host and were very informative. This was a great trip and would highly recommend , it lasted around an hour and this gave me plenty of time to explore the BCM..Also thank you to Carol in the shop .

What an amazing hidden gem... was not sure what to expect but had such a great time. The tour guide is absolutely hilarious and so full of interesting knowledge. The tour captures so much of the black country's underground history and it is definetly recommended with or without the kids.. it gets quite dark at parts so some of the younger children got a bit scared.. but overall they also enjoyed it. A nice little play area for the children whilst you wait for the boat and after.. Its a really nice activity to do on a hot day as all the underground parts are so nice and cool like your in an air conditioned location.. I really enjoyed it and will definetly go again. Love the fact that with one purchase I can go back for 12 months as many times. A must see..

Alan and Matt were the guys who took us on our trip through the canal and it was both educational and amusing. I also found it very relaxing! Highly recommend .

I took mum in her wheelchair, only one of the boats has a ramp, I did not expect her to enjoy it but she did. Alan (Chad) was a kind and generous guide, his passion and knowledge was infectious. I mean, who really wants to know about a limestone mine? Turns out we did! Very engaging guide, beautiful if eerie at times in the tunnels. Not what you'd expect, but worth a look..

Buy merchandise this too was clean well organised and polite, attentive staff. Overly was a great experience if your looking for a couple of hours out this a great place to visit and the Christmas experience was magical and the panto show was good to amazing how different they can make the caves and canal. Super Job 5stars. Thanks for a lovely experience

Dudley Canal and Caverns Santa Experience party size of 10 people ranging from 2-62 years old. We went last year and this year. Last year we visited later in the day so it was dark and atmospheric. This year we went in the morning as it was the only slot I could book for 10 people and we knew what to expect. There are illuminated blow up Christmas decorations on both sides of the canal and in the caverns. An enormously tall Father Christmas and other illuminations stood on the opposite side of the canal to where I was sat so I had to twist my body round to see them. The boat did not turn round in order for you to see the opposite side on the way out. I thought it did last year but I might be mistaken. There are only 1 or 2 spots to turn the boat round. It was truly magical the first time and I recommended it to anyone that asked. For me having gone in the daylight and dark, I would recommend seeing it in the dark. It definitely lost its magic for me this year. Panto wasn't as good although it was still funny in places. Mince pie and hot drink. They verbally offered tea or coffee but had two jars of hot chocolate on the table! You have to ask for hot chocolate. They don't offer the children anything - a little biscuit, chocolate coin or something for the children would have been a nice touch. My youngest had my mince pie. Each child had an age appropriate gift 2 year old a teddy, 5 and 7 year old connect 4 and 9 year old a lava lamp set. The lady taking the tickets on entry upstairs was lovely. I hope she manages to get her grandson the fox hat! The children enjoyed it and that's the main thing! There isn't much they can do about the daylight and it taking away the atmosphere!

My first time on the boat trip and I can say I thoroughly enjoyed it well worth the decision to go on it the young lad who was narrating on the boat was brilliant I wish I could remember his name if you haven't been on it give it a try you won't be disappointed

A claim trip with some of the most beautiful sights in Dudley. A decent amount of work has been made to make the inside of the mines visually appealing and they have packed every 50 meters with a lush amount of history. The is a collection of exclusive films and music throughout to stimulate your ears. My only wish is that the was more of the trip. On the side the is a fully equipped café and trinket store

Loved this trip, fantastic staff and volunteers, our 3 kids aged 7,9,14 really enjoyed it even though they thought it would be boring they loved it 😊 price when booking online is cheaper so even better highly recommend. Also went to black country museum which backs onto the canal exit, so really good day out.

Joined the four hour open water cruise today & I must say throughly enjoyed the whole experience. Brian our skipper was very knowledgeable with all the history surrounding our beautiful canals network, never realised so many new facts about my local area. Rick did a fantastic job opening all the locks on our way, the weather was amazing & the scenery stunning. Highly recommended a visit. Thanks again.

Went here with the wife and kids, the onsite cafe had a lovely menu, we had a cream tea, toasted teacakes, crisps, and a sticky toffee pudding with 4 drinks and it only came to about £16. the Canal and Caves were brilliant as was the tour guide.

What an amazing place I had not been on the canal trip for many years , so it was almost like the first time the Dudley canal and caverns are a must visit place . There is a wonderful shop and museum , and the gongoozler restaurant and bar is excellent .it offers a great choice of food and drink at very reasonable prices . The canal trip is entertaining and educational, it takes you underneath Dudley zoo into the Limestone caverns which are fascinating just to think of the work those miners did to extract that Limestone it is an engineering triumph and a human miracle. Many people died in the mines and the caverns, life was very hard in those times even children worked from the age of eight in the mines . Whilst in the caverns there are several film shows and exhibitions. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes give or take . The canal boats do longer trips but they must be booked in advance . The price of the visit was £11 per adult and £8.50 for children but the great thing about that is the tickets are valid for 12 months from date of issue worth every penny . The tunnels are a piece of history , go and enjoy yourselves you will not regret it . Plus it is right next to the equally fascinating Black country living museum . Visit both , go early and remember 12 months visits for the price of entry at both brilliant places .

Really nice ride though the tunnel with commentary along the way with a short video projection half way through. Colours look brilliant reflected against the water and the light streaming through the ceiling vent looked stunning . If you can , get at the front of boat as I think personally its the best place. Shop on site and cafe.

Fantastic Christmas event! Great experience from start to finish. Really good fun on the barge and the panto was very entertaining. We will be back next year!

We went on one of the Christmas canal boat excursions and it was great. As we went along the tunnels the guide gave us a run through of how Christmas was back in certain time periods while going through themed tunnels!! Half way through there was a little panto performed in the tunnels which was a nice little treat!! At the end of the tour we were guided to meet Santa and a free coffee and mince pie for the adults (all included in the price!) Santa was jolly and the gift was surprisingly good (I took children aged 8 and 10 and again all included in the price!!) Coffee wasn't the best but for free and on a cold rainy day I'm not complaining 😁. The whole experience from start to finish was about 1 and a half hours, and was very good value for money. If going in the winter, definitely wrap up warm as it's chilly in the tunnels!! Would definitely recommend to anyone for a family and purse friendly experience ☺️

Nice'ish place. Very dog unfriendly. We had to sit in a dirty corner outside where we had no view and a very strong drain smell. Even though our little Pup was perfectly behaved. Shame, could have been better! 😎
