Open day for Maxstoke Castle, only do it once a year in June. Could have been more rooms to see, but on the whole if you get the chance to go it is beautiful.

Waited nearly a year to visit this place on the 1 day it opens, after stumbling across it on Google Earth (how many moats can you normally see). After paying to get in around ÂŁ7 each, it was generally an older audience in there. We walked around the grounds and admired the flowers, then had a wander around the small section of building that is open. Lots of old historical objects in there all with their own story, but nothing really about the castle itself. Reason for the 2 star rating is because of the lack of information about the building itself, and I think it was over priced for what you get to see. Wouldn't recommend.

First - it's only open one day a year, for the National Gardens Scheme, so it's not a visitor attraction, it's a chance to see someone's house (part of) and garden. Second - the entrance fee is given via NGS to charity, so the cost is a charitable donation. That said, it's a picture perfect castle with high walls, towers at the corners, moat round the outside, and a lovely half timbered house in the courtyard. The planting is wonderful - roses, cornus, water lilies, vegetable garden - all very appealing, and very worth while visiting. Parking is in a field just outside, and that makes a v. pleasant picnic spot, so bring sandwiches if the weather's good. Definitely going back !

Thank you to the owners of the Castle for opening their private home at their cost and entirely for charity. A beautiful place and definitely worth visiting. The available Guidebook for just a few pounds was very informative. The good weather meant many people visited and the charities benefited all the more. 5 stars from me.

Visited this hidden gem last year and it was a great experience. The castle is only open once a year but going there was definitely worth it!

This is a lovely moated Castle set in lovely grounds with picturesque Gardens. Unfortunately it's only open to the public once a year normally in June proceeds of which go to the national Garden scheme and local charities well worth a visit take a picnic if the weather is good.

Couldnt get in as at capacity on open day. Maybe a timed booking system should be introduced. Waited all year to go so VERY dissapointed

Really enjoyed our first visit to Maxstoke Castle. Interesting history of the castle, nice scenery and gardens. Made to feel welcome. Shame about the weather but hey hoh! Shame it is only open one day a year. Look forward to our next visit next year.
