You can’t review this place in the same way you would for a hotel you spend £60 + for. My review is relative for the price I paid. If you want a true reflection on whether to stay here read the below. I stopped here on a business trip with 3 others. Including breakfast it cost us £30 each. Can I really complain about the little things with prices like that? Parking was said to be an issue but directly outside the hotel there is a street, when we turned up I was able to park directly outside the hotel for free, no issues. The building itself is beautiful but like most old buildings needs work. They are refurbishing it. The staff have all been very friendly and helpful across the board. The reception area is lovely and so is the bar areas. The room itself was perfect for our needs. Yes the bed wasn’t the best and the room not the biggest but it was clean. What do you expect for £30??? All tea making facilities etc and coat hangers and hair dryers, TV etc etc. The room was a little cold at first but the radiator was on all night, once in bed no issues. If you’re with a partner this wouldn’t be an issue. The breakfast was fine too. Unlimited drinks, juices, pastries, cereal and toast. They take your order (friendly again) and the food for £5 was spot on. Would I stop here again? If I wanted a cheap night away in Birmingham. Without a doubt. It could be a magnificent place but because the building is old i understand it’s no cheap job!

I had no problems with the staff as they appeared to be used to the complaints by guests which was really out of their hands. The room had a single glazed window with growing mould and the amount of condensation inside of the windows could be collected into a bucket for a shower. The room was freezing all night as the electric heating was not working properly. The bed was so uncomfortable, felt as if we slept on springs. We had one socket to share. Other better hotels cost less or about the same price, I would rather pay more for comfort than suffer all night. Even the curtains don't close fully so you don't feel you have total privacy. If you have health issues such as asthma or other chests/lungs problems then please don't book this hotel. It needs closing down and renovating back to its past glory.

Supposedly a three star hotel. The light on the bathroom mirror didn’t work, neither did on of the lights next to bed. The shower was disgusting, and the toilet seat wasn’t even on properly. The hotel smelt of smoke, even the sheets, which to be fair were clean, stank. The paint was coming off the wall. The carpet had weird reddish-brown marks on it. The mattress was lumpy, and you get two flimsy pillows. I didn’t dare even ask for more due to the staff being so uninviting. To top it off, the walls were so thin you could hear conversations from the next room, and at 3am some men started yelling loudly, keeping me and my friend up for an hour until they quieted down. Fortunately, we were only staying the night after going to a concert, so we didn’t have to spend much time in there. However, I would hate to think someone might book this thinking it would be a decent place to sleep. I felt absolutely disgusting just being in there it was so vile.

I know this hotel and I know the area very well. The hotel is a bit of a dump and I believe is currently housing asylum seekers. The area its in is the pitts and is either old factory's or buildings sites for flats. Its a long dingy walk in the city centre. If your visiting Birmingham, I wouldn't recommend staying there.

This place can either be great to be at or worse. The rooms are very lovely and somewhat neat, some of the staff are nice and friendly however there is the odd one that is very rude and impolite. The location is a great walking distance from Birmingham city centre, there is also a bus 50 that goes by the property street. The hotel needs A lot of work done, hence the 3 star. The best part of the building structure is how the down stairs area looks, mainly the reception and waiting area.

Stayed here regularly over the years and watched it gradually improve. Many of the refurbished rooms are of a high standard, esp the external corner ones, but it's luck of the draw as to what's allocated to you on the day. Breakfast is adequate and the staff are generally okay - be nice to them and they are usually nice back. Secure parking is available at cost - recommended. But it's close to the city centre (approx 10 minutes walk). Just remember you are paying peanuts for a room in a historic building, so don't expect The Savoy standards.

This is an ok hotel. The lounge area is well decorated. However the rooms are not well maintained. During our stay, the drainage in the bathroom was broken. The management took quick action to restore it. They gave me a different room. So my disappointment of the room was compensated by the well behaved staff. The location is nice, walking distance from city centre. Also, the rooms were cheap. So, it can be a good option for the ones looking for an okay stay at a cheap price.

Lovely staff. I delivered to them and me being cheeky went back 20 mins for the toilet. Let me in and use their toilets no fuss. Us drivers really can appreciate that when you get cut short. Thank you to all the staff

Lots of bad reviews, some I understand others not. Value for money, location etc 100% £35 a night. Room was a decent size warm and had all teas coffee along with TV etc The lobby bar etc was really lovely. Around a 10 minute walk from Bullring shopping. Bad points, there was a dodgy smell now and again from bathroom. But that’s about it, it’s more than acceptable room for the price. I see lots of reviews blaming the hotel for car breaks in, or noise etc As per most reviews, pay pennies expect the Ritz!

Very basic but good value for money. Old style hotel that is slowly being renovated. Excellent value and has improved quiet a bit since my last visit. Still room for improvement and will be good once finished.

It has large conference rooms that are suitable for conference and presentations.

Staff was friendly. My room was very clean. It was somewhat conveniently situated, about 1 mile from the bullring and 1 mile to the city centre. It was inexpensive at £50/night for a weekend rate. The hotel and the rooms are in desperate need of repair and updating. Some of the rooms are still using traditional keys (mine was RFID thankfully). The carpeting in the hallways was no longer adhered to the floor and bunched up. In my room, the shower head was cracked so it sprayed water off to the side and the hardware that holds the head in place was broken. For what I paid in comparison, I was satisfied. If they were to charge a higher rate, I think I would go somewhere else.

Firstly, the building is full of history and character. Great place. People: the staff are very accommodating and helpful. Front desk and the bar did everything they could to make my stay as pleasant as possible. Food was great too. Rooms: a bit of a let down I am afraid. Perhaps due to the listed status they are unable to change the windows to more modern ones, but the old ones leak air.l and noise. Rooms are extremely cold upon arrival, which is not very inviting. The hotel is clearly trying to be more economical with cash and only heats the room when your card key is inserted into the reader. So if you're not in your room, it doesn't get heated. Coupled with the old windows it gets cold. But again, the service was great, I asked the front desk, and a maintenance guy was up there with a heater. The other problem of old windows is the noise. At least 3 or 4 boy racers were up and down the road overnight, which I heard clearly. So not great sleep. Shower facilities are great, no complaints. The overall state of the rooms can be improved by some fresh paint and replacing broken furniture. Cheap gains... And finally, the entrance is so very grande and if a little money was to be spent on making it look better I would thrive, no doubt. Its clear it's being ran on the cheap, for such a grand building, it's a shame. Thank you for my stay.

A weird old hotel, lovely clean reception. Good sized rooms that are clean and well kept. The place was huge, a proper relic. Staff friendly. Parking easy.

Foyer and bar are the only good things about this place cosmetically. Bedroom was freezing and windows would not close correctly due to old building. Building is beautiful and needs a massive internal improvement, would be money very well spend as building deserves it. Water both from shower and bathroom sink freezing cold so could not shower for my two day visit. The excuse of its an old building is not good enough. On a positive, the price was ridiculously cheap in comparison to others hotels near. Could be a potential goldmine with the right investment which is so sad as the building is stunning..😖
