This has been turned into a homeless hotel so ignore old reviews. This does the job but it's a homeless hotel. I'm disabled and it's not at all accessible alone in a wheelchair, I'm asking constantly for help from staff who tell other residents to help me. I'm not in an accessible room so it's a high bath that I'm slipping around in when I'm showering. We are expected to turn our own rooms but have very limited time to do it and of course being disabled this is difficult for me, also my room was dirty when I arrived. I have water on the floor when I use the bathroom, there's blood on the curtains, ripped flooring, insects in my room, etc. Families are packed into single rooms meaning children screaming in corridors at all hours. If you're in a position that here is where you need to stay then it's probably the best you have but don't come in with promises of a nice hotel, it was in the 80s but it's long since been that.

The staff was friendly and helpful and switched rooms for us . Sadly the second room was just as bad. Filthy and items broken. stayed one night instead of 3 and checked out. Would never stay again.

Good location, friendly and helpful staff. The building and facilities are dated; some noise dampening in the corridors and room doors would not go amiss. The room was clean and bed comfortable. The bathroom was also well maintained, with no grotty spots hiding. For the price, the experience was good.

It was absolutely disgusting covered in black mold it smelt moldy the staff were totally unhelpful the bedding was disgusting and dirty and the pics they have up are so out of date it's unbelievable. And the amenities that they advertise don't even exist so on top of all that it's falsely advertised and shouldn't be considered as a hotel.

Reasonably good breakfast and good room. Room is clean and bathroom is in good shape, but I was told I got lucky. Other rooms smelled strongly of cigarettes and were in worse shape. Large portions of the hotel could do with a refurb. For those who want a good room I think it was 76 ;).

Went to a party there. This is a great venue to keep any function.

Birmingham City Council have placed me here after I split from my partner and became homeless with my two children, 4 years old and 8 months old. We are being bitten by bed bugs every single night, the staff have sprayed my bed several times but that hasn't helped at all. I requested a new mattress from their storage, they said they will swap my current mattress for a new one but I'm still waiting and chasing them up about it. I have bites all over my feet, legs, arms and back.. one of the bites on my leg is infected so is constantly swollen, weeping and bleeding. My 8 month old has bites on her hands, arms and on the back of her head.. when staff were told about my 8 month old's bites and shown physical proof, their response was "oh.. well I've never heard of bed bugs being in a cot-bed before" there clearly is an infestation in her cot-bed though as I don't allow her to sleep in the bed and she has bites?! I've only seen two cockroaches since I moved here 2 months ago but still, there shouldn't be any at all. Staff told me when I moved in that kids are to be in their rooms by 9pm the latest and there are signs around the building that also state this, the signs also state kids shouldn't be running around, left unattended or being noisy.. kids are running round screaming and playing way past 9pm in the reception area, on the stairs, and in the corridors every single night.. staff, including the security guard do absolutely nothing. Anxiety is at an all-time high since I've been placed here.

Hagley Road ofcourse isn’t the nicest, but we were made homeless by a private landlord and have lived in Cobden for 4 months now and finally going to a temporary accommodation in a few days. The time we have been here really makes me appreciate the staff working behind the desk and no doubt around the hotel. Amazing experience and really made me believe life is what you make it. My only problem would be the bugs (mainly on first floor) and the very rude cleaner that cleaned our room on the first floor after we had moved rooms, I don’t know her name and I also don’t care too. She was a Jamaica women and as we were going to put a wash on one day she asked if we was in (said room) we said yes and before we got to finish by saying but we moved out of it over a week ago she started calling us dirty people and to flush to toilet. (Bare in mind we left this room in brilliant condition as we had vacuumed emptied and sprayed the room when leaving) we of course shouted back and the situation escalated. After she found out someone else had been using the room after us she “came to apologise” this was not an apology but ended in another argument where we told her to stop raising her voice and she replied “ i’m Jamaican” which has nothing to do with the matter. Continuing she made comments towards me and my child “my kids older then both of you and you call yourself parents” *OR SOMETHING ALONG THEM LINES*I can’t remember exactly as it was a few months ago. But again everything else was perfect I would just avoid her.

I worked here in 1993/94 when it was called the New Cobden Hotel. Full of wonderful memories of the good times we staff had together. Customers were not pretentious rich people, just down-to-earth normal folk. Management were great too. We had a Jazz music weekend in the rear gardens and a travel industry weekend conference where all the top companies in domestic and international travel were there (including representatives from Qantas, Thomas Cook, British Airways, to name a few). The only issue we ever had as waiting staff was the shortage of spoons. I never knew why. Living in the staff accommodation on Rotton Park Rd was a hoot. Oh well, that was then......

When we arrived the rooms was visibly clean, but with outlandish out of date decor, the double room was nice with adequate utilities, the toilet was a little bit small. The swimming facilities were unhygienic to say the least, mold on the floors and unclean pool with sharp tiles missing. Our room was right next to the outside area so during the night we could still hear noises and commotion until 3am, bed was comfy I did have a goodnight sleep. We probably won't be back any time soon.

We had our wedding reception at the Cobden Hotel in the Cobden Suite. Jessine managed the whole event and planning process who did an absolutely fantastic job. She walked us through our plans for the day and asked all the right questions in our pre-event meetings to make it perfect. Thank you so much to the team at Cobden for all your best efforts to make our event special, everything turned out great and the room looked amazing.

Attended a private party here in July 2022 it was ok venue, bit small but we enjoyed ourselves. That being said I have been to better venues. I cannot comment on the rooms as we did not stay in hotel.

Recently visited here regularly to visit someone housed here during the Pandemic. First of all the staff at reception are fantastic, rushed off their feet, they are friendly and helpful and seem to know everyone who is there amazingly and go over and beyond. They should get a pay rise. However the actual building is in need of deep repair, the stairs and dark and dingy, the lift only sometimes works, the damp in the rooms is disgusting, curtains are old and need of a deep clean due to the damp. Gardens could at least have a play area for the high number of children within the building. There is also more that could be said for breakfast which is toast and jam every single day! Apparently this was once a high end hotel used for weddings and events, it's a shame they have allowed it to fall into such a neglected state.

It's cheap and cheerful, needs a bit of money spent on it. Very busy on weekends don't know what it's like Mon to Fri. Staff are hard working, they seem to be here constantly. The restaurant menu has lots of choice with affordable prices. Bar prices are comparable with local pubs and has loads of cocktail and shots offers. It seems as though they are slowly improving the place but it is slow. The shower water pressure is extremely fierce, some people might like this. Lovely firm mattresses but they haven't upgraded the bedding. The sheets cannot be tucked in on both sides of the bed because the mattress is too big. All in all a very popular hotel.
