Seriously, if I could give this place a zero, I would. I have NEVER left a bad review in my life but I feel as though I can't not warn others about it. Please, if you're looking for a decent hotel with staff that have basic manners and kindness, don't book here. A few months ago, a friend and I booked here through another website. A legitimate website who's name I will not drag under the bus because they were the ones who actually ended up refunding us over £200. Neither of us live in Birmingham and travelled quite far via public transport to meet up after so long not seeing each other because of the pandemic. We arrived at the Collection Hotel early evening and wanted to check in. After waiting for what seemed forever (and absolutely no acknowledgement from the 2 staff sat at the front desk) I finally asked, "Hi can we check in?" To which I had a hand put up at me with the response "I'll be 2 minutes". From the get go, we did not feel welcome. After waiting in utter awkward silence for even one of them to finish typing, I gave in our name and reservation number. The guy at the desk looked blankly at me and said "it's not working" to which I responded "ok..?" unsure of what I was supposed to do. He tried again, still no luck. I asked him what the issue was, he asked who we booked through. The response I got was "we don't advertise our hotel on there" , "we've told them this before" and he proceeded to tell me he couldn't do anything and to speak to the woman sat next to him. If I could name names, I would. But they didn't introduce themselves. So, "the woman" was dealing with someone else struggling with the same issue and when it was finally our turn to speak, she told me "we can't do anything" and "we're fully booked here". We were both told we couldn't get any money back from them, we couldn't even rebook a room for the night because they were fully booked (I could still see you could book rooms online) and there was nothing they could do. As we'd travelled and been out for most of the day, both of our phones were very low on battery. I was taken aback by the way we were being treated, as if it was our fault. No one was trying to help us and at one point we were even laughed at. In the end, with absolutely no help, utter rudeness and quite frankly the worst customer service I have ever received in my life, we left The Collection Hotel and walked up the road in the pouring rain to try and find somewhere else to stay. I will never be returning to The Collection Hotel, neither will anyone that we know and to leave 2 young women with no help in the middle of somewhere they've never been before at NIGHT is honestly the worst way to treat a paying customer.

When we first walked into this hotel, the reception area looked quite nice. That's the only way I can justify giving it one star. Besides that, this is a very bad hotel. We waited a few minutes for our key card, then walked into our room to find used chewing gum on one of the pillows. It had clearly been there for a while. The previous guests in this room had obviously put up decorations as there were still bits of confetti stuck to the walls. The bed was extremely uncomfortable to sit on. It was very badly broken in and we could feel the wooden frame beneath the mattress. The bath did not look nice. It was all chipped and there was a strong smell of chemicals in the bathroom. The mugs that are given are tiny. You could have your cup of tea in two mouthfuls from one of their mugs. There were stains on the walls and there were patches on the ceiling that had clearly just been painted over to hide damp. It's safe to say that we did not stay the night at The Collection Hotel. If you're considering staying here, please keep this review in mind. There's a lovely Premier Inn not too far.

Do NOT book with this hotel!!!! Nothing like the pictures !!! Disgusting hotel for a UK based hotel, just not acceptable. Hotel was disgraceful! Filthy, dirty carpets, filthy walls, smelly, I can go on!!! Tiles all broken in family bathroom. Just don’t understand how this is passing a safety test for children. Very dangerous for young children.. Very disappointing. I will put up pictures for you all to view so you can see for yourself why I’m so disappointed. Stick to the Hotels you know!!! Premier inn, Ibis. Travel lodge, Hilton… you will have no issues like this at these hotels.

I was a little nervous about staying here after reading some of the reviews but based on our experience some of the reviews were unfair. Staff were friendly and helpful, the room was clean and tidy. Few marks on the walls but for the price we paid for the room it really wasn't an issue. Based on our stay the price we paid we were more than happy with the hotel. I was shocked at how different our experience was compared to some of the reviews if read.

Terrible experience would not recommend. The hotel and the staff are terrible. After we left the hotel they decided, without informing us, to charge us for repairs of our room. The accused us of smoking and staining bed sheets which we never did. The manager did not care to even check the room prior to fining. Eventually it became evident that the supposed images they had were clearly not taken in our room. As a means of apology we were accused of trying to deceive the staff and they tried to claim we did in fact stay in a room which was stained etc. The hotel itself is generally in poor condition, and little to no effort has been put on maintaining it. Bare necessities were not provided with the room we had to request it. Towels were and soaps were not provided. Room is in poor condition. Staff could not even help to turn the heater on but fortunately after an hour or so it kicked in

First room I was given stank of cigarette smoke so I asked to change rooms. The second room didn't smell, but the toilet lid was missing a connector so it moved around when sat on and the mattress was so old and uncomfortable that it was very hard to get a decent night's sleep. It was £60 for a mid week night so I didn't expect luxury, but the hotel was so run down and just dirty feeling

The hotel was in a good location as it nearby to some tourist attractions. It has parking spaces in front that happened to be visible from my room. The lobby was quite nice-looking. The room had some amenities like fridge and microwave, but lacked some such as an iron. The room was of a good size but in desperate need of maintenance. •Sockets were not very secure •Tiles in the bathroom were loose and had grout falling out •Stains on the walls •TV wasn't working and had extemely poor signal •Phone line to reception was really bad too •There was a stench in hallways and rooms that was being masked with air freshener - having the carpets cleaned might help with that •Yellow-brown stains on bathroom floor that wouldn't come off even after attempting to clean myself •Spring poking out of mattress •Cleaning staff knocking on door 10 minutes before check-out time saying it's time for us to leave then proceeded to stand there, waiting and watching us leave! 😒 I'd say there's more bad points than good, so would not recommend staying here. Also the rooms could do with updating the decor. They look nothing like the pictures advertising the hotel. I feel like I've been catfished!

I arrived on Sunday and unfortunately my room was delayed and I couldn’t check in as fast as expected..at the beginning I was disappointed as just sitting in the lobby and waiting room was really annoying and frustrating.. The hotel certainly needs a repair but I give a 5 stars for reception team. Considering the pressure and circumstances they did the best and been very nice to customers. Also my room was very tidy and when I finally checked in first impression definitely changed. My room scented amazing and the cleaning staff were great during my stay! Hotel needs improvement for sure but everything else is as fine as you can expect.

Arrived to check in after 2pm. Was told "the rooms were not ready" we said "oh, we were told check in was from 2pm", and were told "well there not ready". Very snotty young man on reception. Rooms look nothing like in advertisement pictures. Very dated. Carpet stained and very dirty. Bathroom door on inside was all rotted with holes in the bottom of door. Sink had a big chunk missing on the edge. We had a twin room. One bed was OK, the other the mattress sunk in the middle. Paid £80 for the night. Would definitely not return.

Arrived for a one night stay on 1st October, reception space was huge, we were able to leave our bags behind the reception (not very safe) while we went shopping and to the spa. Check in was after 2, we got there around 3 and was able to do so. Rooms are awful. Extremely dated with decor, blood marks and stains on the main wall, holes in the walls, holes in the net curtains, the springs in mattress made the beds very uncomfortable. Stains all over the bed runner which was disgusting. Headboard was also ripped and covered in white marks. Not enough cutlery and cups in the room for the amount of people sleeping resulting in me having to do down to reception in my nightwear early morning to grab the extras we needed. There is a bar next to reception but if you don’t mind waiting 30 minutes for a drink then that’s okay. Really pricey too for cans of coke and bottled water. There is an ironing board, iron and hairdryer in the room if needed, little bit of a bonus I suppose. Definitely wouldn’t stay here at again at the price we paid. Could probably find a premier inn or travelodge for the same price and better facilities and cleanliness.

The hotel itself if below average, I’m not one to usually be fussy but my bathroom had mould all over the ceilings, dusty stained curtains and there was loose hair in my bath which shows the standard of cleaning! The location was rough with what seemed like a hostel next door and overall I didn’t feel comfortable here with the doors even looking very fragile! The guy on reception “Pavel” was extremely unhelpful with just answering “ there’s nothing we can do as we are fully booked so nothing more to say!” Even when I challenged him with at least an apology for the state of my room he just referred me to complaints!

What you'd expect for the price. Room was tidy. Communal spaces seem to be being decorated. Only issue was the TV only had one working channel for the first day and a half but was fixed within a reasonable time after it was brought up with reception. Would stay again should the need arise

Got here after travelling, booked and paid for a room a 2 weeks before I needed it. Got there to a notice on the door saying that the hotel was closed to Immediate effect. Rang the number on the door they could not help in any way and just said that they are closed and put the phone down.

Stayed here on a business trip. Check in was ok & the staff were polite. The room looked really nice on entry. (THEN) Diwali celebrations started in the car park where fireworks were let off close to customers cars & I had to move my van to a nearby street. Without getting sleep till the early hours..Blood & lipstick stains over the bed sheets & 1 off the pillows. Dirty splats up the walls. Rooms just need updating with a good tin of paint or 2 !!!!!

Staff were lovely, the minute you walk from the reception area the whole atmosphere changes. Our room was filthy, dirty sheets, bugs window that didn’t shut on the top floor with one of child’s beds up against it, and the smell is horrendous. We never ended up staying the night checked out and headed home.
