During my recent four-night stay at the Holiday Inn Express Birmingham Snow Hill, I found myself amidst a blend of comfort, delicious breakfast feasts, and friendly service. While the experience had its minor setbacks, the overall stay was quite enjoyable, warranting a solid four-star rating. Let's start with the positives—the breakfast. Ah, the delicious all-day English breakfast! This morning delight was a highlight of each day, providing a hearty and satisfying start to my adventures in Birmingham. The wide array of options, from crispy bacon to perfectly scrambled eggs, left me feeling nourished and ready to tackle the day ahead. Kudos to the hotel for offering such a delightful breakfast spread. Furthermore, I must commend the reception staff for their friendly and helpful demeanor. Throughout my stay, they greeted me with warm smiles, providing useful information about the local area and assisting with any queries I had. Their attentive service created a welcoming atmosphere that made me feel at ease and valued as a guest. However, it's only fair to address the cons that slightly marred my experience. Firstly, the air conditioning in my room required a touch of tech wizardry to function properly. While it's understandable that technology can sometimes be temperamental, it would have been more convenient if the system was user-friendly and didn't require a degree in engineering to operate effectively. Moreover, the non-functioning telephone in the room was a disappointment. It's an essential amenity that can make or break a guest's experience, especially when it comes to communication and addressing any concerns. Despite bringing the issue to the attention of the staff and requesting assistance, the problem persisted throughout my five-day stay. This lack of attention to resolving the issue was a letdown. Another minor inconvenience was the presence of a pull-out sofa bed in the room that wasn't required. While it's understandable that hotels aim to accommodate various needs, the unnecessary furniture took up valuable space, leaving me with a feeling of clutter in an otherwise well-appointed room. In summary, the Holiday Inn Express Birmingham Snow Hill offered a pleasant stay overall, with its delectable breakfast options and friendly reception staff setting a positive tone. However, the issues with the air conditioning, non-functioning telephone, and an unnecessary pull-out sofa bed did diminish the experience to some extent. With more attention to resolving such concerns promptly, this hotel has the potential to provide an exceptional stay for its guests. I would still recommend it to others, keeping in mind the minor setbacks encountered during my time there.

Right next door to where I was visiting so a perfect location. The room was clean, quiet and the beds comfortable so I slept well. The room was quite warm by the morning, unfortunately when I turned on the AC (as there were no opening windows) it was dripping water so I had to turn it off. Other than that it served its purpose, bonus point for plug sockets next to the bed and the smart TV with a high resolution.

Stayed for a week for a work trip. Great location for business travelers - virtually across the street from the various Snow Hill offices, and easy to access from all train stations. Staff members were mostly courteous and helpful - but some are curt and uninterested, especially in the evenings. Rooms are relatively comfortable, although could do with some TLC. Cleanliness is seriously lacking, especially on soft furnishings in the room. Lots of stains on walls, curtains, seats, sofas, etc. At least the essentials (bedding and bathroom) were somewhat cleaner. The included breakfast was ok - hot and continental options were provided, and takeaway cups and bags are also provided for breakfast on the go. Overall, it will do the job for a brief visit - but cleanliness really needs to be looked into. P.S. my name isn’t James

Just stayed one night with my wife after a wedding party. Breakfast was really good and the bed was comfy. Staff were all kind and helpful. Bathroom was quite new and clean but the room was a little worn. Would recommend the price is similar to other city centre hotels but the breakfast included was a great touch. Happy Customers 😁

In my humble opinion, what makes a hotel stay enjoyable is a combination of : facilities, comfort and service. Whilst the facilities and comfort were average, the service was outstanding. On arrival to our room we noticed that the electric sockets and TV were not working.! We called reception and the duty manager ( who has just arrived to start his shift) answered the phone and within three minutes he came to the room. Sincerely apologising, he went and within a couple of minutes the problem solved. However, this services was not the reason for giving a rate of "outstanding service"..! In the morning, we went down for breakfast and were greeted by the same acting manager (David). The greeting was pleasant and warm. What was more impressive, the acting manager was leading the team ( during a very busy breakfast session) not only as a manager but also as a "team member ". His actions showed a total pro-active planning but also, most importantly, a professional "reactive" to any situation. Managers, like David, are the essence of any successful business...! THANK YOU DAVID..🙏

I had originally given this hotel a good review online as they were very understanding about rearrangements due to Covid. The gig we were travelling for in 2020 had been cancelled and rearranged twice and the hotel rearranged our room both times. The gig was eventually cancelled completely, but we decided to travel to Birmingham anyway to honour our booking. Upon arrival, they were unable to find our booking, despite us being sent emails leading up to our stay from both booking.com and the hotel themselves. Every time we rebooked, we spoke directly to someone at the hotel, so it was not like they weren’t aware. Despite this, staff blamed everything on booking.com and took no responsibility. Staff said our room had been cancelled as the price for rooms had increased...er, that's how online deals work, you get a good deal and pay for it and usually the price would be more if paying on the day. Both times we changed the date, there was no mention of a price increase. Staff were belittling and tried to make out we had been unreasonable, supposedly changing the booking 6 times, which was not correct (one of these supposed changes was adding me as a guest, when I was the one who booked it, hardly a change!). Staff just spoke over us and were rude whenever we tried to argue our case. They were saying we would have to pay over £80, when we had already prepaid. There was no way we were going to stay in such an awful hotel, especially for that price, so our trip to Birmingham was wasted. Hardly skin off the staffs' noses to let us stay seeing as we had already paid. The hotel are now being unresponsive to booking.com and me after nearly a week and we still have not had our money back. Despite the great location, we will never stop here again. I know it’s budget, but the staff need some serious training and you do not expect this sort of treatment at such a big chain.

I frequently used this hotel when travelling to Birmingham, but this time round I wasn't impressed even though the staff were polite and friendly. I list my points below... Room 603 - shower head broken, water flowing out on top . Mentioned this to the staff in the morning who said they'd get it checked out. Got back to my room that evening, key wouldn't work. When I did get in my luggage had gone. The cleaners removed it and I had to go back downstairs to retrieve it. The shower had also not been fixed so they moved me to room 806. This wasn't good, the air con didn't work. Someone came up and was told they are trying to reset this and it would take half an hour. I was going out that night but when I got back, it still wasn't fixed. I was moved AGAIN... for the 3rd time to room 1503. A bigger room BUT, the bed base felt like it was going to break AND... The shower head was the same as room 603, plus their air con was over the bathroom/toilet door, so it was of no benefit to me as I didn't feel any of the cold air. At 10am, I had someone knock my door TWICE asking me to check out. When I looked through the spy hole, it was in fact the cleaner. When I went to reception to check out, I asked the checking out time and she told me it was 11am. So I mentioned about the cleaner, which she apologised for and would discuss this with the cleaner because she has done this before.... Think the hotel could do with a full maintenance or refurbishment of their utilities/furniture. Won't be staying there again.

Staff were really really great. We were in room 1002. It's a good size. For 3, but 4 would be a big struggle. The room had a weird smell, after showers in the morning the room smelt a bit like a sewer. Glad we stayed only one night, would not like to go back into the room after that smell, esp because you can't open the window. The room and the whole hotel was so so hot, tried to put the Aircon on but doesn't work in the winter, just couldn't settle because of the heat. The staff do all they can under the circumstances. The staff are fantastic but what was important was the room and was really awful.

The heating was broken but an electric heater was provided. The bed was terrible. Way too soft. I'm not sleeping on a couch for my anniversary weekend. Breakfast was chaotic. Too many people for the size of the dining area, it was rushed because you had a 30 minute slot. Even the person directing people to tables kept double booking when people had only left the table to fetch their breakfast. Given a warning when you had 5 mins left that your time was almost up.

We got the room where sofa was in a very bad condition. We had also requested for a baby cot beforehand but we did not receive it despite multiple follow-ups. Reception does not answer calls promptly. A very poor experience we had with the hotel.

Even though it was only an overnight stay it was comfortable and worth the stay. The bed was soft, I slept like a baby! I didn't eat breakfast but it looked tasty enough, there seemed to be a reasonable selection. I had a wedding to go to that started for 1pm so I asked for a later check out time. I was given a 1pm checkout free of cost which really helped me with getting dressed for the wedding. This is more like a 4 star than a 3 star. Rooms are clean, staff are welcoming and it is in a good location. If you are looking for a hotel without too many frills but clean and comfortable then try here 😊

Great location, I spend a number of nights in Birmingham for work, this is another new hotel for me. 2 night stay. Ideally placed, although food is limited, it was value and enjoyable. Rooms were of good standard, but heating was poor. End on positive, staff were excellent and friendly.

Given the strong branding of this hotel, our stay was full of issues that could have been avoided. We were initially given a room without power to any sockets, so no TV, no iron and no way to power personal items. The hotel moved us to another room, and this had no power to the air conditioning/ heater (it was -4 outside). The hotel's response was to offer a refund and try another hotel. We pointed out that it was one of the busiest nights of the year, and where did they think we would find a hotel. They eventually gave us a third room, which again had no air-conditioning working but there was a portable heater at least. The finish of the room was awful, no mirror at the table for my wife, the door was damaged and everything was tired. Then the lift broke when we came back in the evening. All of this in one night! Never again, and I was a member of IHG.

Thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay. The wonderful Aimee ensured we had a lovely room with an amazing view! We loved the breakfast, air conditioning, smart tv, friendly staff and spacious/comfortable room. Will definitely stay again!

Firstly, the staff here are absolutely amazing, from the moment we entered until we checked out, smiling , friendly, and going the extra mile ,the room was clean , and the breakfast was great. We were in room 703 .My daughter left her ring in the room and we only realised 4 hours later. The staff checked the room and also with housekeeping and they found it. The honesty and care that the staff have are an asset to this hotel, and I will definitely be back. Keep up the amazing customer experience !!

I’ve stayed here twice. My first trip was amazing so I rebooked it here, which was very sad as the next trip was the complete opposite. The day I stayed here my hotel water was only hot. The heating system must have had an issue because it was baking hot in the room. Despite the weather being cold outdoors. They even moved us to a new room on the floor and it was the same issue. The amount of times we requested for room service to clean. We even left the room. They still didn’t come for the entire week we were there. The room was beyond filthy and didn’t feel nice

The overwhelming positive from my stay here was the amazing staff, greeted so politely and with such a friendly attitude, I immediately felt at ease, the hotel was exceptionally clean and the room exacting what I needed from a short stay in the city! Ideally located within 8 minutes walk of New Street Station. After a very comfortable sleep I didn’t have time to have breakfast, however the helpful staff got me take out boxes and a cup so I could take my coffee and croissant to go! Overall, a great hotel with exceptional staff, who really brought the sunshine to a gloomy Birmingham day! I will definitely return

This hotel needs avoiding like the plague. One star is being generous, too many things to mention in a review here goes - the rooms are not cleaned to a good standard nor bedding change it has left me seeking medical help from a reaction when we asked to change rooms apparently there was none. The water tank is broken and awaiting repair and nothing could be done about the constant noise it makes. The bed and pull out bed was uncomfortable and broken the floor would of been a better option if it was clean. There was no food left when we checked in at 5pm to have evening meal. Breakfast was a sham waiting 45 mins for them to replace the cooked items and when they did it was all cold no milk left for cereal not that there was anywhere to sit or even a member of staff to sit people. Save your money go elsewhere pay the extra £10 and book down the round it’s called an express as that’s the quickest way to get out

Iv been coming here for a while now (over the last couple years) as my daughter is very poorly in the hospital over the road but the manager, staff, cleaners etc have always made me feel like it was a home from home. Always so welcoming and helpful. And the rooms are everything that you need for a decent nights sleep. Just a quick thank you to everyone that are involved at this holiday inn, as they have all helped me so much and they are a massive credit to this hotel and themselves… thanks again

Unfortunately the aircon in my room didn't blow cold. It was a hot day and the room was like an oven all night long. The shower was good and powerful though and a decent size. The breakfast service was very slow in the morning. They had a potentially good choice but no sausages as the servers were all empty. Scrambled egg only and it was like rubber. It's a good location and clean. It's cheap and cheerful.

Enjoyed my stay here, room (twin) was spacious and clean. Shower facilities were good as well. Staff were very friendly and check in was quick. Breakfast is quite busy, so go early if you want to grab a table, especially if you’re staying over the weekend. The hotel itself was very close to town centre and snow hill station is only 5 mins walk away.

Good value budget hotel. We stayed as a place to rest our heads after a show. Would also be good if travelling for work. Our twin room was large and clean. Beds were actually very comfortable for single beds. I skipped breakfast but did grab a glass of fresh orange juice. No issues at all.

The reception staff was really kind (mostly a girl called Gladys- she was really kind and helpful) Really liked the room, though it had a weird door that gave access to a wall. Toilet was modern and bed was really comfortable. Free breakfast with loads of options and a really useful gym. I would stay there again

Ideally situated next to Birminghams business centre. The air conditioning was broken so the rooms were really warm which made it difficult to sleep. Although fans were supplied it didn't help much, it was a particularly warm day so not completely in the hotels control. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The breakfast decent. The staff were friendly and attentive. Parking is roughly 4 min walk, called the B4 car park and a discount is applied if you are staying at the hotel.

The White Middle aged woman behind the desk was the only helpful person in the company. They gave us the room key and everyday we had to keep coming downstairs for them to reset the keys as it wouldn’t open the door. Yesterday evening when we went to complain to the duty manager why we kept coming down as no one was answering the phone by the lift his response was ‘ We are Busy ’ The shower was cold never warm or hot. House keeping walked in on me and my partner when we was undressing and didn’t even knock, they kept coming in the room and throwing away things we left on the table. Last day we came down for breakfast the bread was stale yet they put it out for people to eat, even took pictures. The room was so stuffy with a little fan no windows or air con. Room itself wasn’t clean the blinds were broken and on the window sill it was dirty with dead flies. The bed was uncomfortable not value for money. When we went to complain to the main manager 2 days ago him and his colleague whispered that they will give us a refund if we don’t put a review on trust-pilot rather than addressing the issues. Will not be staying here again or recommending to anyone.

DO NOT COME STAY HERE. I booked a night with my mother to stay at this holiday inn. Normally we are quite impressed by this chain hotel so we though this branch would be no different. The room was absolutely freezing cold. Impossible to sleep at night. We requested a heater which did absolutely no good. We complained the following morning and they offered a free nights stay. However there was no paper work or anything to make that word valid even after requesting some evidence for that free night stay. Called today to catch up on that night stay or at least get a refund. Picked up instantly but was really rude. I had to call twice as one hung up on me before I even finished. Impatient, impolite, didn’t want to explain what was going on, putting me on hold/mute without informing me, cut me off the call with a “okay. Bye”. Terrible service. I think they’re very stressed or something to be acting up like this. I am appalled by the staff who hung up on me. She needs to learn some manners. Do not stay here. There are similar priced hotels elsewhere that can offer you a WARM night stay with KIND staff.
