Good place for birding, early in the morning. During the migratory season, you get to see a lot of winter visitors. Birds like the Wryneck, Amur Falcon, etc. have been sighted here in the winter months. There is also more water if the monsoons have been good. There are plenty of butterflies also to be seen. The nearby forest area that houses the various Govt agencies - fisheries, animal husbandry, poultry has a lovely road running through it that connects the Madhure Temple Road to the lake entry point (where there is a board saying Travellers Bungalow) and it is an ideal place for cycling, jogging or just walking. The lake area itself does not offer much shade. There is a pathway on the southern side which has a Durgamba temple. The Madhure kere nearby is another good place for birding. Other interesting places in the vicinity are Nrityagram - the dance school established by Protima Bedi.

A very nice place to visit with family especially during monsoon season. The scenic view here is the best and the place is located away from the busy roads & traffic. A temple is also built midway on the path. Parking is not a problem.

Best to go during early morning sunrises or sunsets. You can walk around the lake, there is a temple close by. Lots of birds to spot. No good eateries around other than small tea shops, better to carry food along with you.

It's definitely one of the best places to cycle in Bengaluru. The road is well maintained and is lined with small farms, plots of agricultural land and it is a very peaceful place, and lots of greenery. There are few off-road trails to experience little more adventures.

It's a small lake with a beautiful sunset to watch. There is bridge to get near the lake and also routes to the temple of the end of the bridge.

The most iconic places of Bengluru It's definitely the best places to cycle, very calm, serene, rich with flora and fauna. There are Government Vegetable farms, fruit farms, fisheries and all but all that the place is lacking is the water, you read it right, the lake has dried up and all that's left and the entire lake has become a grazing place for cattle now. Hopefully the monsoon rains should bring back it's beauty soon β›ˆοΈ

As on October 2022: Hesraghatta reservoir is filled with water now in 2022 which was dried up in 2020. It's a scenic beauty to walk alongside the reservoir and spend sometime with family and friends. Best to visit in the morning or evening. Can spend around an hour at this location. Only few birds can be spotted. There are not much shops around. And hard to find a restaurant. Well, one can try biryani or mushroom starters at Hotel Oyester which is just few kms away.

Very calm place. Surrounded by nature, home for many migrated birds. Place is being spoiled by careless visitors by throwing garbage, wrappers, plastic bottles. Food should not be allowed inside to protect the beauty of this natural home of these birds.

The place is very dry and quiet. Not much shade here. It's one of the oldest lakes in Bangalore. I heard it was once used to supply water to the entire city. Could have been even better if the place was shady on the top side while viewing the lake.

The lake is open always but the best time to visit the lake would be during the early morning hours when the water body offers a splendid natural view and an opportunity to spot various birds of different species, sizes and colors. The Hesaraghatta Lake is a place where sightings of more than 2000 water birds have been reported. The place is known to be frequented by more than 29 species of birds. It is also a favourite destination of many of the migratory birds that visit the city in the months of winter. Built in 1894, the Hesaraghatta lake situated in Bengaluru, which has supplied water to several parts of Bengaluru for over a century, is filled to the brim after a long interval of 28 years. Serene lake view. You cannot get down in water, but only viewing it’s beauty. There is also a temple alongside. Gud parking space. Can spend an hour to two. 8-10 steps to climb up for lake view.

It was drizzling when we visited the lake. A well maintained lake with benches to sit on. There is nothing much to do except walking talking and taking a few pictures.

Awesome experience. Early morning and evening after 5 pm is fantastic. However beware of insects and other birds and wild creatures. Entire area is covered with grassland and a lake in between. A Devi temple is there. Take food a water . Look before you take a step because of soft mud and puddles ajacent to the lake area. Dont go too fare into the grasslands or too near the lake. Enjoy safely.

This is the place where you could spend the whole day roaming around and exploring. It gives calm to body and soul with its scenery and the temple there. When I saw this place on internet was not much impressed but after visiting there it's been a wonderful experience.

If you want to have a quiet and serene time with your people with a great view and not too far from Bangalore, this is the place! The lake is huge. It is surrounded by huge grasslands. Perfect place to sit, savour in the vast lake and clear sky with your friends and family. Good choice for a half day trip!

Good for spending an evening if you are in the vicinity. Wouldn't recommend as drive destination. There is lots of birds around (though you don't see many, you can hear them well) It is maintained well, the pathway, grills and parking etc. Lake is beautiful though can be cleaner. There is a temple (visited by many). Overall it's a good place to go for evening or morning time. Pet friendly place.

Hessaghatta's beauty comes alive in the enchanting landscape of grasslands, farms, and lakes. This serene and picturesque setting offers a breathtaking escape from the bustling urban life, allowing us to reconnect with the tranquility of the natural world. The gentle rustling of the grasses is like nature's lullaby, soothing the soul and calming the mind. Farms, scattered amidst the green expanse, offer a glimpse into the age-old art of agriculture. Here, hardworking farmers tend to their crops with dedication and care. Amidst this breathtaking scenery, one can find solace, inspiration, and a renewed sense of connection to the earth. The air is fresh and crisp, carrying the scents of blooming flowers, fertile soil, and the promise of a new day.

  • 2/5 Joshua P. 3 years ago on Google
Sadly no water now. Hope the rains this year bring more water. It's a very shallow lake . It's now more a grassland with local villagers having their cattle graze there, so it does not make for a very neat spot. There is park too which is very nice to walk. I took my dogs to walk on the grass. They absolutely loved it. But really saddened by the fact that there was no water. There is fisheries department there but not sure what they do.

My Second Solo Bicycle Trip to Country Side Of Bangalore. This Time Its " Hesaraghatta Lake" I am little Disappointed With The Lake As There Was Less water, Roads Are Clean | An Extraordinary Journey | Little Traffic | No Parking Facility Do not expect food around the lake so carry your own food. Kindly return before the sunset as there is no proper street light for 10km Covered 35 kms | Covered 4 Lakes | 2 Forest Regions |

There is hardly any water in the lake but the view from the bund is amazing. It has a beautiful drive and one can take a good loop ofn15 kms. The lake entry is a elevated one and has a gate. You may miss it for a temple entrance. A very good place to cycle and you will see many a groups of cyclists there. There is a Udupi restaurant in a 2/3 kms perimeter from this place and a few small shops.

This place is a very good place and it's very dry place in summer and it's actually a lake and in Raine season it's fully fulled with water it has a very good view and pout and plesent place and family can visit this place it's very peaceful place and I really loved this place and there is a temple near that lake and this has been a shooting spot for many films and it's very good place to fly drone and it's very good place for photo shoot. Some special info Near the entrance if you continue with the road and you will find a forest road and it's an empty road for very long and it's very good place for the bikers and you can take photos of the bike parking it in center of the road.

This lake has the potential to be a lake, but gave up that struggle soon enough. Now it's leading its life as a pond. ( Atleast when I visited it, will update if the lake in it appears.
