Great experience overall. Nice walk, however please be sure to wear proper shoes because its a slippery trail going there. Great pictures to be taken. Also, i advice you go around 11 to 12 when the sun is almost up to get some proper light where taking pictures is concerned..the water is also very cold so better when the sun is out ITS FREE!!!

Waterfalls are beautiful, the river line and natural swimming pool is also very beautiful. Surroundings are natural and forest gives a magical atmosphere. This place could easily get 5 star rating but the maintenance of the facility is almost non existant with 460 meter access path to the falls in disrepair and possibly dangerous for some. Still. I loved it. Hope I can attach some photos

After the recent rains, the Madonna and Child Waterfall was beautiful to see. Keep in mind that it's quite steep down to the waterfall (and then of course you have to walk back up again). You can sit on the rocks by the falls and enjoy a snack while admiring the scenery.

Madonna and Child waterfalls are magnificent, a true wonder to behold! However a fair warning the route to the waterfall is in a dilapidated state, one must be fit and in good physique.

It was a very steep hike down to a fantastic waterfall. The walkway was in need of some repairs and the it is a very steep climb on the way out, but the waterfall is beautiful.

Beautiful waterfall and walk. The staircase down has not been maintained. So be cautious and make sure you have the right shoes. Dry conditions are more favourable.

Wow, a wonderful walk through the deep forest! Beautiful scenery along the path and the waterfall is majestic and so worth the slippery walk. Don't let the reviews saying that you "need to be fit to do this walk" put you off! Both of my parents who are 60+ walked the route and they're not fit at all. We did it barefoot, because it was extremely slippery and steep. Be prepared for a climb on your way back. The path is not well maintained (nature took over) so be sure to walk very slowly and carefully. Otherwise no issue, we loved it and felt safe, too.

Absolutely stunning! But do not under estimate the time it takes and level of care to be taken when manuvering the path, as well as stringent level of fitness required. BUT it is so worth while. One of the most beautiful places ever. Enjoy the journey; it is part of the experience.

It was our first visit to Hogsback and we thoroughly enjoyed every single moment. The Madonna and Child waterfall (and the others) are well worth a visit. Of all the waterfalls we went to, the Madonna and Child was the most difficult to reach. Here are a couple of tips. * for a fit mobile person of any age the path to the waterfall should be a breeze. It is fairly steep down, but not uncommon for an indigenous forest walk. What makes it slightly challenging is that the boardwalk and railing is very dilapidated and you must be aware of your next step. * Therefor, people that walks difficult or older people will manage, but take it slow and be patient. If in doubt, rather enjoy the other waterfalls * make sure you wear closed shoes as wet circumstances causes slippery areas. I would suggest that you go early morning. We encountered locals on there why to a ritual. Later in the day parking close to the entrance might be a problem You dont need to pay an entrance fee. Park and walk.

The waterfall is stunning, when we visited there had been heavy rains a few days prior which made the streams very strong as well and the falls were strongly flowing, the cool mist at the foot of the falls is very refreshing after the walk. Though the walk is just +-450 meters the walk has steep inclines and declines making it very tiring, I would suggest some shoes with good grip (alot of muddy pathways) as well as a walking stick as a lot of the pathway is degraded, but not to a point where it would be too dangerous to walk. We were initially disappointed when we arrived at the entrance because there was a lot of trash, but after our walk upon returning to the entrance, the conservationists arrived to clean the area. Overall a must see part of Hogsback and makes for stunning pictures.

The walking route could do with some repair. There were a number of unsafe steps. But other than that it was a glorious trip. It's safe to go into the water right up yo the fall itself, although the stones in some parts can be uncomfortable to walk over.

For all nature lovers and enthusiasts...if you're looking for a sweet, quiet and natural forests vibe in East London area,Hogsback has a few spots that hit the right places. Every part of me was filled with joy and awe and mesmerized by all the beauty and peacefulness I experienced in this place. We did half the hike, the car dropped us at the exit of the trail then we walked about 1.5km to the waterfall,it's very steep, so be careful, especially for those knees. If walking sticks are your support please don't shy away from grabbing them, the hotels there usually have, but you can also buy some on the road to the hike. I don't want to say too much, other than, the hike from the waterfall, towards the big tree and the exit to the main road was a pleasant journey. Not a difficult hike, but think it can be slippery if it was raining a lot,so wear those nice grip shoes. It's shaded throughout the hike once you're in. It was 29Β°C when we went there, but could barely feel it. The waterfall was also pleasantly cool and it's not deep, please don't attempt to dive. Enjoy it and embrace the beauty of nature and big gorgeous trees. The routes are marked very clearly...so don't worry about getting lost.

Great trail we have done many times. You can link it to other routes to do a longer run, or just park nearby and do the short walk down. The trail currently needs maintenance, it has deteriorated over the las few years. Trails are very slippery when there is quite a bit of rain (summer)

We abseiled down he falls, and what an adrenaline rush that was! Definitely book via Candy at Hogsback Adventures, but note the trip back up is very taxing... well worth the stiff arms the next day or two! πŸ˜‰

Great hike but make sure you are ready for a large downward slope and steep uphill. It's beautiful though. There is also the option of taking a shower under the waterfall. Just beware winter times.. Unless you are stupid/brave like my friend

There are 2 routes to get to the bottom of the falls. The first route starts at the backpackers (Away for the Faeries) and descends into the valley at a steep, but manageable slope. The route then follows a contour path past the Big Tree towards the falls. This route is 8km and takes 3-4 hours. The second route starts at the view point near the top of the falls and follows a considerably steeper path down to the bottom of the valley. This route is 500m of descent, but it is advised to go slowly. Whichever route you choose, the view at the bottom of the falls is worth it.

Really beautiful. Trail could use some maintenance!

One of my favourite hikes! Very sad to see how much litter is being tossed around in the forest though. Try taking an extra bag for rubbish you see lying around. Be prepared for the walk back up the waterfall, it's quite slippery if wet and always steep.

Steep walk up and down. Wooden pathway not well maintained. Still with the visit.

Is it beautiful? It could be, but trash is everywhere. I can't understand how the people who visit this place can just leave their garbage everywhere. It's absolutely disgusting. I don't mind the walkway not being maintained, but someone come clean up the garbage, put up more trash cans, and REGULARLY EMPTY THEM.

It was a lovely climb but a bit tough for the unfit! Worth it though - the waterfall is gorgeous!

It takes 1 hour to get there if you walk from the Main Road. The first 50 minutes is just a rough road and the last 10 minutes is a trail descent to the falls. Vehicles are allowed to drive on the rough road, so if you want to save some time and energy, especially in hotter days, then it is preferable. There is no entrance fee. There might be broken planks on the descent.
