We love our visits to Addo. The elephants are spectacular and our last visit we had great sightings of lion. The restaurant and educational centre are good. Jack's picnic spot is great for a bathroom stop and for a picnic coffee spot. You can even braai. Highly recommend to spend a day in the park.

Most amazing experience. Being so close to the gentle giant of this earth, spectacular views of the ocean. Excellent driving experience, even if you have a small car, roads are well maintained. The drive to the National Park was beautiful with fruit orchards to view. A must see in the Eastern Cape

I wouldn't ever go back no animals food poisoning absolutely rubbish save yourself the trouble and give it a miss. As for the guides they didn't have a clue the excursions are over priced and was told in 40000 heaters they only have 3 lions you'll be extremely lucky to see anything other the the contents of your stomach (if you have eaten there) would also stay away from the bare foot elephant lodge unless you enjoyed the tiger King Tracy exotic would be happy to mess up your holiday

You will definitely see elephants, zebras and warthogs. We also saw lions (from very far away) on both days. And a couple of antilopes.

We recently spent two nights in a Safari Tent at the park. The park itself is fantastic, but there are areas that require attention. Due to recent rains and reduced maintenance, the non-tarred roads have deteriorated and need improvement for a smoother experience for vehicles not designed for off-road conditions. This aspect was better managed in the past. The facilities at the main camp are adequate but could benefit from upgrades, especially considering the current rates. The bed in our tent was exceptionally comfortable and clean. However, the rest of the tent showed signs of mildew, and the furniture lacked functionality and creative design. The refrigerator, although loud, functioned well, and the air conditioning unit seemed fine (though we didn't need to use it). The views from the tent were spectacular. Overall, there's a concerning sense that insufficient investment is being made in the facilities, upkeep, and maintenance. Attention to detail seems lacking, as evidenced by unattended issues like burnt-out light bulbs, broken locks on some toilet doors, and a section of the fence in the hide area becoming hazardously inclined. The absence of proactive local operations management is noticeable, despite the presence of sufficient staff. This situation appears to reinforce the perception of inadequate reinvestment in the park's overall upkeep and guest experience.

The cabin we stayed in was beautifully clean. The best in all the National Parks I have been too,and the shop was well stocked But reception needs to improve service as there were queues of people waiting to check in ( and one staff member was sitting looking at her cell phone)Also I phoned Addo 12 times ( using the website phone number) and the phone call was cut dead or not answered😡 Also, can one imagine , in a place where people go for peace and quiet there was a raucous event party one night with a loud band. Inexcusable in a game reserve

What a great experience I had! The receptionists were extremely friendly and helpful. The animals seem to be in good conditions. We got to see the jackals approaching the dead zebra. What an extraordinary experience! I only get to see stuff like that in National Geographic. Sadly, we didn’t see any lion but overall it was a very great experience.

Great park with lots to see! We had a fabulous time here while seeing so many animals. We weren’t able to see the lions which was a bummer, but all of the elephants were amazing!

So I would probably give this a 4.5 stars. The park is extremely large with lots of elephants by the water holes and sometimes coming right up to your car. Also a lot of zebras and some warthogs. Unfortunately I also spent a ton of time driving around and seeing nothing. Animals were concentrated and either there are a lot in one area or you’re driving around for an hour looking at nothing.

Loved our stay in the camping section. Enjoyed the save-the-dung-beetle campaign. Beautiful park - all shades of green and we saw the wildflowers. Saw Buffalo, lions, loads of elephants, many antelope.

Stayed at the cabin. Two self drives and sunrise and sunset guided drives. Sightings of Elephants were amazing. Highlight was visiting the underground lookout at 5.30 am and witnessing a hyena on a kill. Dream come true 👍

Fabulous national park with lot of wildlife viewing opportunities. Plan on spending 1-2 days to fully enjoy the park. Can enter only through the north and south gates. Cats can be usually be seen in the center of the park and elephants to the north.

Visited Addo with caravans from 13 July for 4 nights, and stayed at the main camps caravan park. We love Addo, but it is heartbreaking to see the lack of attention to the ablutions of the caravan park. We had to lodge a complaint on cleanliness, smell of the ablutions. May we suggest that you also consider upgrading the ablutions. Otherwise, Addo is great, campsites itself also good, we cannot complain.

Absolutely loved visiting Addo!! As the name might suggest, you will see elephants here. There's ton of other wildlife as well. If you're lucky you might spot a lion or leopard. We decided to do the self-drive and I think this is the best option to do. You can spend the full day in the national park, deciding which loops you would like to take. It's definitely possible to spend up to 6 hours here, and still discover different animals. There are a couple of places to stretch your legs and enjoy the view (most at your own risk!). The picnic place in the middle in the park is great for a lunch break. You can drive with the windows down but you can only get out at a view places to see the animals. If you're doing the self-drive, bring your own food!! There are no restaurants in the park, and driving back to the entrance will take such a long time. I'll also recommend going with a 'normal car', since about half of the park is restricted for bigger cars like busses and campers. Exit the park at the entrance, otherwise you'll have to drive (about) an hour back Addo. But mostly, have fun!!

Perfect to see lots of Elephants and Zebras very close. The paths are very good so you can self-drive also without a SUV. You should spend here at least 2-3 hours. But also a whole day is possible without getting bored. There is a nice restaurant for lunch at the entrance.

Lion, Elephant, and Zebra paradise. We saw dozens of elephants and a male lion chilling a few feet from the road. The elephants were curious and crossed feet from the vehicle. The mongoose was cute, perched on its rear legs. Facilities are good. Bathroom in the middle of the park and at the entrances. The restaurant @ the main lodge serves a good veggie omelette. Please turn off your motor when you stop to see the animals!

We had a lovely afternoon driving around the park trying to spot all the wildlife on the map. The points game was fun with each person getting certain points for each animal and whoever saw it first got more. We saw lots of lots of elephants. We spent an hour at a large watering hole just observing, it was so tranquil. We were lucky enough to see buffalo, the rare and illusive dung beetle and hyenas!!! Leave ample time as you can literally get lost in the park watching all the wildlife. We stayed onsite in one of the cabins. It was very basic accommodation. Small bed, no wifi but it was cheap and cheerful. We saw an elephant by the water outside our room which was amazing. The restaurant food was ok but a little expensive.

🐘 In a nutshell: come here for elephants (loads), zebras, pumbas, birds and other small animals. Don't come if you insist on seeing all the big 5. Lions are out rarely. It's called Elephant National Park after all ... Then you will be extremely fulfilled and leave as a happy animal lover. Some useful information: 1) you may come in with your own car (4x4 preferred but not entirely necessary), but likely you will see far less animals. 2) we arrived with our amazing driver and guide Saul - and he made this day special pointing out so many animals we would have never seen and could provide so much background information. Really recommended! 3) It's card only (no cash) in the park and by the gates. 4) there is a gift shop inside, so you don't have to bring your own food if you don't want to. There are a few picnic spots that are also gated off. 5) plan to be here for at least half a day (4 hours +) 6) wear sunscreen. It's a no brainer, but still worth mentioning. 7) by all means - never leave the car (except in the gated secure areas. There are wild animals after all and elephants - while they seem calm and peaceful - they weigh more and run much faster than you can ever dream of. Other than that - ENJOY the 🐘🐘

Large variety of wildlife, well kept camps and easy driving. The roads, both tar and dirt, are well maintained. The main camp was a great stop for a cold beer and refreshments. The water hole below the main camp was full of wildlife and an experience. A beautiful weekend and lots of great sightings.

One of the places you really must visit in South Africa. The third largest national park in the country. Seeing the elephants is really something special. There are a lot of them in the park (700) and they move around in different places, so you can see them in different places and quite unexpectedly. The park itself is really huge and only holds animals that are native to the area. You drive your own car through the park, the roads are in fairly good condition even for small cars.

We are currently in Addo. Wonderful. Main camp superb. The gravel roads need a lot of attention. Serious potholes. But much less hectic than Etosha.

Nyati rest camp is something special. The accommodation is premier and there is alot of privacy. We saw alot of animals that side and the experience was top class. Private pool and viewing deck over the valley makes it romantic and relaxing. Over at the Main camp we had a nice cottage that gave us some small animal views from the balcony. The animals seem to be harder to get this side, it's also very very busy. True to its name Addo showcases it's elephants. You can't turn too many corners without a road block of them. The flora is wonderful for those interested in that. It has been raining here which makes it extra beautiful. There are many hides and viewing points.l to visit. A swimming pool that is well maintained. Great shop has everything you need. The restaurant is good.

Lovely family experience driving through the park. Great dinner at the Cattle Barron Pity about the cleanliness around the cottage we stayed in. Litter not picked up. Packets and other rubbish visible in the bush (speck boom). Speck boom overgrown and needs to be trimmed in order to provide a view.

We only did the Addo coast trail from Cannon rocks to the start of the dune field. The trail is very easy to walk, and the places where stairs and logs have been placed to ease the route, they are starting to deteriorate. All in all remains a favorite, as you come back along the beach.

We had an amazing time in this park driving by ourselves :-) We’ve been to Kruger park right after and even if Kruger was amazing, it really is a different experience than Addo! In Addo we felt a special connection with the animals and a proximity like they weren’t afraid of us at all! It’s also less crowded which gives you special moments alone with the animals :-) would highly recommend anytime !!

We stayed 5 nights in Addo Main Camp and thoroughly enjoyed watching the elephants interact with each other and also the human visitors. The elephants are very calm among humans - but at all like the Kruger National Park elephants. We saw jackal, meerkat, buffalo, kudu, warthogs, zebra, fish eagle, pale chanting goshawks, red hartebeest. We stayed in chalet number 20 which had beautiful unobstructed views of the landscape and we thoroughly enjoyed watching the elephants and zebra stroll past. We could hear the jackals and hyenas at night. We booked an early morning game drive as well as a night drive. Both are 2 hour game drives. There is a Cattle Baron restaurant at Main Camp - we enjoyed the food. Laundry facilities behind the reception area - but tokens from reception. The downside was that load shedding was a problem as the chalets were not equipped with any decent battery lamps- so make sure to take your own lamps and head torches. . Sanparks chalets are not very well equipped for self catering. There is a microwave but hardly any microwavable cookware. Serving dishes are also non existent. The units are serviced daily- they do wash the dishes and the braai facility gets cleaned everyday. Information about the Reserve was sorely lacking (ie, information about laundry ) . Definitely worth a visit especially if you love elephants.

Seeing the elephants is really something special. You can even see them before you get into your car and drive around the park as they are often by the watering hole. The accommodation is comfortable, but self catered. The guides are very knowledgeable about the wildlife - CK in particular has lots of stories and holds a lot of knowledge on the history of individual animals and the park itself. The park itself is massive and only holds animals that are native to the area. The bird hide and the underground hide (especially when elephants are at the watering hole) are not to be missed!

We did our first visit to Addo Jul 2023, long overdue. The Park did not disappoint, the landscape varies from area to area. Around each corner giving a little of its beauty. We stayed at main camp in the Forrest Cabins. Comfortable and had all we needed. They(staff at reception) warned us about possible water problems, but we did not experience any problems. Camp has a generator, so load-shedding not a problem. The shop and restaurant were great. Some of the gravel roads had just been graded, others gave a nice African massage. Very green. Main camp having some construction but did not bother us, its part of the ongoing improving of facilities. From one of the eastern areas of the park you can see the Indian Ocean. The signpost in the park are great, numbered so you can see where you are on the park map. Will be back

On my third visit to South Africa, my boyfriend and I decided to explore Addo, a place known for its diverse wildlife. Having previously encountered a variety of animals, the one species that had eluded us were elephants. So, while we were staying in Jeffrey’s Bay, we made it a point to visit on 12 August 2023. Upon arriving at the entrance, we paid 468 rand for both of us and were handed a map to navigate through the expansive area. The drive itself was an adventure, lasting about three hours. We took our time, capturing photos and videos, and making occasional stops to admire the animals. It's quite a sight to see them casually strolling along the road, necessitating intermittent pauses. There was even a friendly competition between my boyfriend and me to see who could spot the most creatures! One important tip for visitors is to ensure you have your driver’s license handy, as it's required at the entrance. The security measures are stringent, but they're in place to protect both visitors and the wildlife. During our drive, we were treated to sightings of warthogs, elegant zebras, and the majestic elephants, some of which were incredibly large. My boyfriend was particularly awed by one especially grand elephant; he mentioned it was the largest he'd ever seen. It’s important to note that throughout the drive, you're strictly prohibited from leaving your vehicle. This rule is in place to maintain a safe and respectful environment for both visitors and the animals. After the exhilarating drive, we headed to the on-site restaurant and explored a charming small museum. It was a perfect way to wrap up our unforgettable Addo experience. Side note: If it's summer, it gets very hot so it's so nice to have a bucket with some cook drinks during the drive. You'll thank me for this.

This is an exceptional South African national park situated close to Port Elizabeth with a diverse array of wildlife, but if its elephant's your looking for, this is the place ! It has been a really long time since I have last been too Addo. Took the family for the first time. It was an overcast day and it seemed as if the animals were all hidden. We managed too see a few warthogs, about 3 elephants, a few Zebras. As we were exiting the park, we were greeted a massive elephant that decided too eat branches while standing in the street path. This was really the highlight for me and my two smalls boys who couldn't believe seeing this large elephant right next to the car.

(Translated by Google) An absolute must for every elephant fan. It is particularly worthwhile for guests who stay overnight in the park, as they are more allowed to enter the park than day guests (as of November 2018). I was so fascinated that tears of happiness rolled out of my eyes. Of course you mainly see Elis, also in the lower part of the park (if you come from the north, otherwise upside down). But other wild animals can also be observed. Will go there again and again. Werde immer wieder dort hin reisen.

Addo Elephant National Park is a diverse wildlife conservation park situated close to Port Elizabeth in South Africa and is one of the country's 20 national parks. It currently ranks third in size after Kruger National Park and the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.

I love Addo. Not nearly as big and wild as Kruger but for us here in Cape Town it is not too far to travel. Stayed there for a week 2 years ago and can't wait to go back. Best thing is to get up really early and do a self drive. You never know what you might see.

Wow we took a drive here for as long as we wanted to for a small price and it was incredible. We were in the presence of a few of the Big 5, the Buffalo and Elephant's amongst others including zebras. There's accommodations, restaurants inside and picnic sites inside the park. Do visit when your in the Eastern cape. Oh there's a game drive too.

I have been very disappointed with my experience at the park. First, it was sad to see the litter scatered in the bushes outside the front office, especially in a nature reserve. Second was the fact that we booked a horse ride a day in advance then drove through to the park from Kenton on sea only to have them tell us that the ride was cancelled and the guide was sent home. They are extremely inefficient. They simply apologized and gave no alternative plan for us. It's seems as if there is no accountability.

A big beautiful green park. Not Kruger at all but more flat even though also hillly and a different experience. Go with no expectations and relax. Not the big 7 though. The sea Colchester part is owned by someone else and you exit the park to get there where you pay an exorbitant fee to entter. Forget about whales and dolphins and rather try see elephants and lovely antelope.

Overall great experience. Elephants were fantastic, saw some animals but unfortunately no cats. Restaurants food was very delicious, overall staff was friendly and inviting. Only lost a star due to the incredibly rude lady at the reception. The receptionist is one of the first faces you see representing the park and sets the mood for your visit and she was incredibly rude and made us feel unwelcome. Hope not to be greeted by her again if I return to the park. Otherwise was a nice experience, highly recommend as a family activity.

We had a wonderful family experience, saw a lot of wildlife animals including the gentle giants the 🐘🐘🐘. Thanks you Addo Elephant Park and SAN parks for a wonderful experience. My 6th visit overall, each one a great outing. A must see in Africa.

  • 4/5 Malandi B. 1 year ago on Google
We enjoyed the variety of animals especially the elephants. The animals is fewer than the times we visited before. I can suggest that another ablusion building be build for the capacity of campers visiting there and that it is kept more clean than now. A picnic spot with toilets must also be build at the southern part of park. Jack's picnic spot is not enough.

  • 5/5 Joshua B. 1 year ago on Google
Fantastic, make sure to go to the water holes if it is a hot day. Saw 100+ elephants along with so many other animals. Lions are hard to spot during the day so go for early morning or as late as you can for them.

  • 5/5 Michelle van B. 1 year ago on Google
Such a great experience. It was my first time at Addo, and it didn't disappoint. From the reception to the time we left, everyone was friendly and helpful. We packed a picnic basket and had lunch at Jack's Picnic spot. There isn't a view, but it was nice to get out of the car and enjoy the sounds of the birds around. It is great to be 1 hour away from the beach so we got to see ellies and then went back home for a swim in the sea. It was the best day!

  • 5/5 Southern M. 1 year ago on Google
What better than live elephants next to the road in the camp! Was beautiful and amazing. Pity about the roads outside the camp and surrounding areas. South Africa should really fix their infrastructure.

  • 5/5 Bruce M. 10 months ago on Google
Do not hesitate to visit Addo. We have visited many times over the years and are never disappointed. If you have limited time hire a guide. They are affordable, personable, knowledgeable and will greatly improve your experience. In three hours on our last visit we saw 6 elephant groups up close, Buffalo, black jackal and others. Awesome.

  • 5/5 Krysten V. 11 months ago on Google
Highly recommend driving through Addo if you have the time for it! We got to do our own safari basically; as you can check-in as a day guest and drive through the park on your own. There were animals everywhere to see! Because the park is large, the sightings were less crowded and it felt like we were on our own private safari. An amazing day driving through the terrain looking for animals. Heads up—They have a restaurant and souvenir shop at the main gate, but South Gate just has restrooms and a reception area to check in.

  • 5/5 Nadia K. 6 months ago on Google
Beautiful game reserve. Check in and entry payment was quite quick. You are provided a map and there is also a sightings board. The entire park is well signed and it's very easy to navigate around. We saw elephants, jackals, Kudu, warthogs, and zebras. Because of the size of the park, we were able to navigate around very quickly and ended up not even needing to spend a full day here, although you definitely could. If you are close by, definitely come! Note that you do need your passport number for entry.

  • 5/5 Nikolay A. 6 months ago on Google
Wow, what a place! We came here around 9am with my wife, paid 750 zar for 2 people in the car. We came from Radisson hotel in PE and start our journey from South gate. At the beginning there are may bushes and you cannot see anything, but then it nature start changing and we saw many animals and their wild life. Deers, buffalo, zebras, turtles, birds, boars, flamingos, kind of ostrich and of course elephants- singles, doubles, flocks. Parks lays between the hills, road goes a bit up and down, quality of the road is good, but be ready its dirt and dusty road(eco-friendly). Definitely recommended for everyone - kids, couples and friends etc. we spend in the park 5 hours, have seen lots of animals, but unfortunately not cats. Views are fantastic. Would love to go again

An interesting night stay in the Swizz cottage next to African elephants all night . Howling of fox and hyena. Heard of Zebra. Totally a nice experience. Self drive through game reservoir. We could see the elephants fighting (bull fight). My son was enjoying the view. This world is again away from all the lights and gadgets and wifi.
