BED BUGS. Lady at the front desk was nice, we went upstairs to our room. 304. When we walked in the entertainment center where the tv was sitting on was halfway pulled out into the middle of the room. We thought that was kind of odd. The tissues in the bathroom were dirty and not in the tissue container properly. Bathroom was dirty. Floors were dirty like they haven't been vacuumed in awhile. We weren't impressed by any means but since it was after midnight when we checked in we were just eager to get to sleep. I started to pull back the bedding and looked at the pillow cases which were discussing and stained. I pulled the blankets and sheets off the foot of bed to change the bedding and found bed bugs. We weren't in the room for very long at all before leaving and asking the front desk lady for a refund. She told us our card wasn't charged yet and shouldn't show anything pending.

We came here at 4AM and definitely appreciate them getting us a room at such a late time. However, we got a floor on the main level which was barely cleaned and was obviously used as a pet room. Dog hair, dead bugs, and one sad roll of toilet paper with no replacement. Convenient? Sure. But you’re best going somewhere else and actually getting your moneys worth.

I never write reviews, positive or negative. I’m pretty easy to please and if something isn’t quite right, I’m generally pretty laid back and just let it go. But this hotel is so bad I really thought I needed to do my part to inform others! There was macaroni and cheese spilled all over the inside of the freezer. The bathroom vanity appeared to have lots of old water damage, it looked bad and it stunk. Neither the pool or hot tub had been cleaned in a very long time. The first morning we ate breakfast there, a lady was in the breakfast area barefoot while the hotel employee was in there cleaning, yet she never said a word to her. I was shocked since that is a very basic health standard in every hotel I’ve ever been in! The next morning there was a guy in the breakfast area barefoot. There was no staff in the breakfast area so I went and told the front desk, she couldn’t be bothered to leave the desk to go tell him to put shoes on. My daughter tried to eat a muffin at breakfast and it was rock hard. There were stains all over the carpet in the hallways as well as our room! This is the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in, I wish I could give it a 0. I will never stay there again! They either need to do a huge remodel and completely overhaul the way they do business or close permanently. I do not know why the health department hasn’t shut them down yet.

Pool was the highlight, my daughter loved it. But the hot tub was less than desirable as it had hardly no jets. Rooms contained water damage, torn stained sheets and blankets, mattress was beyond stiff I think sleeping on the floor would have been more comfortable. Facility was very run down, definitely slipped to a one star. Staff was hard to reach, extremely distant, and not personable. There are plenty of options in the area for the same or less price I would strongly recommend choosing one of those hotels.

Bed bugs in quite a few rooms attached photos Management sucks and is very rude. They had no issues yelling at staff in front of customers. Management chose to sit in office instead of helping lady check in guests. Short staffed The older woman working (not their family member) was very nice. So kuddos to her for her patience and customer service that I received. Family ran and operated but doesn’t appear they even care. Pool had a film in it. Looks like it was half done and cheap fixes. Breakfast milk gallon jugs sat out for a few hours before even put in fridge. Breakfast was mini muffins, cold cereal, waffles, juice and coffee. Check prices as choice advertises one price, but walk-in prices were different.

Where to begin...When we first walked in we were given rooms that weren't cleaned yet so we had to wait. Then the rooms we were given didn't have padlocks on the doors so we had to request different rooms. Don't get fooled by the pictures of the pool area thinking it's for the kids, make shift slide that looks like it'll fall apart and can only support one person on it and one person climbing the stairs at one time. Hot tub didn't work and looked like a warm bath of dirty water in the corner. Breakfast in the morning, stale bread and muffins next to raisin brand cereal and watered down apple juice. I couldn't blame my kids for not touching it. Our first night there, the adjoining room started to smell of marijuana. When I went to ask them if we could change rooms due to the smell coming through, it didn't seem to bother the front desk and they couldn't offer the same size room, and next room was not cleaned and smelled like cigarettes. Needless to say it was probably the worst hotel I have ever stayed at and we tried to stick it out. Do yourself a favor and go next door to the holiday inn. Has a great pool for the kids, clean and you'll sleep easier knowing your door can actually lock.

This hotel was a very nice stay. For the price I absolutely loved it! You get comfortable rooms and a very good breakfast in the morning. Not to mention it has a water slide! I 100% recommend this place it made my stay in Rapid City perfect!

Worst hotel there is. Arrived after 6 hr drive with 3 kids at 11pm. Got put into a room that had a puddle on the middle of the room. Got moved into a room that wasn't cleaned. The shower was filled with left over hair and the shampoo and soap was used. On top of it there was a leak coming from the ceiling. Asked for a refund and the refused to compensate me for putting my family at risk with COVID going around a dirty room. Completely upset

The location is truly the saving grace of this place. We drove 8 hours, got in to check in and the front desk woman was frazzled to the nines and was telling everyone the hotel was overbooked and telling people to reach out to wherever they booked to get refunds. I finally got my turn at the counter and promptly pushed for my room because I had made my reservation weeks prior. She then proceeded to shhh me multiple times. I would have lost it at that point had she not then found us a room to be in. This turned out to be lackluster because after entering our room, the a/c wasn't working. Mind you, it was an excess of 90 degrees this particular weekend and we paid to be there for 3 nights. Luckily, the next morning someone new was at the desk and she found us another room with working a/c. Overall, the hotel seemed pretty run down. Lights flickering, stains everywhere, random broken doors and appliances sitting in hallways and stairways. One of the exterior doors wasn't working with the room keys. We plan to visit rapid city again someday but we will never stay at this hotel again.

Honestly this hotel is disgusting. First off the hallways smell like a peed on bus stop, the sheets in our room were not clean, nor the floors, the fridge was so frozen over with ice the door would not close, the window (on the second floor) doesn’t have a screen on it, and the curtains don’t close fully over the window leaving you completely exposed to bright street lights and for anyone across the street to see you, lastly the doors are paper thin leaving you to hear every single coming and going. Extremely disappointed. Normally Econo Lodge is a safe chain. Not this one. Dear “Management,” Rather than just saying sorry for all the complaints on the reviews maybe just go clean the rooms.

We stayed here because it had a waterslide and comfortable beds. The slide was fun but it made me nervous. There were a lot of rusted spots up at the top. I just wondered about the stability and how often it gets inspected. Beyond my nerves, the slide was a great time. My son loved it. It did make swimming in the pool more challenging because of the current from the slide. It wasn't a problem for us but if you're there to swim it could be an issue. While we were there the hot tub wasn't working. It wasn't hot. That was disappointing but I guess things do happen. But the beds were comfy and breakfast was okay. It had the typical breakfast food you expect to find at a hotel.

Most lights did not work. One mattress had a big hole the other one super stained. No one monitoring the breakfast area, it got super messy. Bathroom sink was clugged and took for ever for the water to go down. Front desk person was nice. I hope we don't take bed bugs home

When we got up to our room, there was dust everywhere, hair in the bathroom and a light out. The floor hadn't been swept and had crumbs all over. The furniture was scratched and scuffed. I was laying on the bed and a wasp flew out from behind the curtain and then there were a couple June bugs on the window. I decided then to read the reviews because my husband had booked the hotel. And I saw the bed bug review so I made my husband check our bed. Both of us and my 5 month old had been laying on it. After that I said I wasn't sleeping here. I went down to the desk with the keys and told them about the bugs and that I wasn't going to let my daughter sleep in that room. The receptionist was nice and understood my concern. She cancelled the reservation and didn't charge us any fees. 🙂 That was the best part of the hotel, she was friendly and listened. We walked past the indoor pool and hot tub. You could see all of the junk in the hot tub because it was sitting on the bottom. The pool was painted blue inside so you couldn't see if the pool was dirty. The slide looked sketchy. I had been excited to swim.

What a nightmare!!!! Booked a week here. When we showed up, we were told that our king bedroom wasn’t even clean cause the housekeepers ran out of time and therefore we were going to get another room. We get demoted to a double queen room. What I didn’t understand is that why weren’t the booked rooms prioritized first to be cleaned? Whatever. Next day we get the room we booked so we grab our luggage and go across the hotel to our room. Not a good start to our first day. We notice things right away, stains all over the curtains, chairs, walls. The surfaces were really sticky. The hallway looks like it hadn’t been vacuumed in weeks, and the smell of weed all over the building was noticeable. Our AC unit look like it had spills on it and was FULL of mold. How is that not a safety concern? Breakfast was a joke. Nothing is replenished and there was no options whatsoever. Every table was dirty so we ate what we could find in our rooms. Hot tub was out of order. We love hot tubs and we book out hotels based on that being available. Side door entrance didn’t work (was told the battery was dead) so most people used the rug to jam it open, so the door was always available to whoever. Anyone could get in at this point, safety concern. Overall, I don’t recommend this place to anyone. The staff were friendly tho, that’s honestly the only good thing here. I’ve tried to talk to a manager to express some concerns but he was nowhere to be found during business hours. And I’ve tried multiple times. Hopefully people can zoom in the AC photos provided. Overall I should’ve looked at the reviews first… now that I have, I’m seeing a pattern. Everyone having a bad experience and mentioned similar things that I just did for many months And the exact same response from the “manager”, that they’ll improve now that they “know” the issues. Nope. Just nope.

I stayed here for 6 nights. It's a mixed bag of good and bad. Our room was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable and the pillow provided the right amount of head/neck support -- much appreciated after a 750-mile drive. The pool was nice and has a waterslide. Multiple restaurants and even a Walmart in a one-mile radius. Sounds great, right? Well, here's the problems: (1) The room floors are fake hardwood. Sound bounces around and makes everything seem louder, including the people in the room next to you. (2) The pool is beautiful but the hot tub looked disgusting all except one morning. I noted the lack of chlorine smell compare to other hotel pools. Maybe they're not using enough? (3) I was at the far end of the hotel. Wifi signal was weak. Had to sit in the lobby when I wanted to get something done fast (4) Lower budget attracts low-quality characters... One night someone sat outside my window blasting his car stereo from 7pm-10pm. Fortunately, when I finally complained, the hotel staff was helpful in removing the person. I've stayed in much more expensive hotels that don't do anything about noise complaints, so +1 for the staff here. Another night, some moron lit a joint right below my air conditioner unit and basically fumigated me out of my room. Unfortunately, by the time the smoke found its way into my room the person was long gone so there was nothing to be done except wait for the smell to dissipate. So, like I said, this place is a mixed bag. If you need to stay somewhere on a budget, it definitely has better prices than other area hotels. Just be ready to roll with the punches.

I Left an item in room. I called a few hours after checkout to have them hold it a few days until I passed back through. They said they would check in a bit. I called the next morning. They said housekeeping had not done room, but the would check and call me back. I called that evening, he said housekeeping hadn't come, and he checked the room and found nothing. Housekeeping only comes from 10 to 2. I came the next morning at 8 and wad told room was occupied. Either I was lied to the night before, or that morning. On bed was broken in half, and no one noticed? Poor service then lies made this a bad experience.

Clean. Faux hardwood instead of scanky carpet. Wifi. Exterior door on our room needed new weather stripping. No big deal. Comfy bed. Clean bathroom. Good water pressure in shower.

Horrible! First room that they tried to give us, was sooooooo dirty, even my kids was so disgusted. The blanket and sheets had not been washed. There were dog hairs on the blanket. Carpet was dirty and door had very big openings. They gave us an upgrade which were a little better but still felt very uncomfortable.

We checked in after driving 6.5 hours with 2 kids and a puppy. Dude at the front desk was super cool and super understanding. Got to our room (105) and had a weird smell. Blew it off and went and got supper. Came back and couldn’t unlock our room from the outside because the batteries were dead and they don’t make enough to replace them. Saturday we woke up and the kids had a couple little bumps but didn’t think anything of it. Sunday we go to check out, both kids have 10+ bites and the dog had a few as well, lift the sheet up and bed bugs infested the bed. Informed the front desk and they said the refund had to go through booking and booking said it had to go through them. Almost 2 weeks and they still haven’t contacted me on updates with my refund. Would not recommend.

This was the dirtiest hotel I’ve ever stayed at. There were several dead bugs on the floor indicating it hadn’t been swept. Hairs all over the wall of the shower. Spit splatter on the bathroom mirror. I pulled back the sheets to check for bed bugs (didn’t see any bugs because I stopped looking when I saw the mattress stains) and wanted to crawl out of my skin… just gross.

Paper thin walls, doors and wooden floors that make the rooms echo. Pool is in the center of the hotel and basically open to all the rooms which creates a humid environment. This is the worst Hotel that I've ever stayed at. You can hear everything happening in the rooms bext to you and in the hallways / pool area. I'm really not picky at all and my expectations are low. Overall if you can afford it, spend the extra 30-40 bucks to stay somewhere else.

They say the Alex Johnson in rapid city SD is haunted well I say the Econo Lodge is haunted. Room 2295. I just woke up to a skinny figure walking halfway across the hotel room to the wall. I could hear the floor creak. I pretended to be asleep. It turned around and walked some more before I stopped hearing it then I switched on the light to in freak out and wrote this review. Other than that the stay was good friendly employees. Ect. Room clean

Rooms were clean enough, lighting was a bit too dark in our room. The pool is smack dab in the middle of the hotel so the entire first floor is extremely humid and stuffy. Broken tile in the bathroom, broken door to cabinet mini fridge was in, broken piece on shower curtain. A/C was adequate but took a while to get cold. Our door did not form a proper seal so we could here anytime someone walked down the hallway. Nothing to complain about with the breakfast. Overall not a bad stay but there was room for improvement, in my opinion.

The desk clerk, Ameem I believe was his name, was very rude and unaccomodating. We had to ask for the manager. Hallways could use a good vacuuming and there were pieces of wrappers under our bed. The toilet smelled of pee and was dirty around the base. Not impressed but this hotel was the only hotel with rooms available. Won't be coming back.

If I could give this hotel 0 stars, I would. We stayed for 3 nights. The first night we were there, our truck was broken into. The window was smashed and multiple items were stolen. The police officer that came went to the front desk to get camera footage from the parking lot. She was told that the manager was not in and we would have to wait until the following day. Come to find out, it was very well known in the area that there were break ins happening and we were never warned. We even found out after the fact that Howard Johnsons in town hired security because of it. Hotel management never reached out to us or showed any concern for our situation. To top it off, we were thousands of miles from home and had to do laundry. They charge $2 in quarters to use both the washer and dryer. When I went to the front desk to get change, I was told that they only had $1 in quarters and no change machine. They also have a pool with a waterside. It was open 1 day while we were there. The room was ok, but the hallways reaked of cigarettes. Stay as far away as you can from this place.

We stayed in Oct 2021. While at the hotel someone broke into our room and stole my nephew's wallet and one of my students wallets. Numerous security doors were not functional or propped open. I inadvertently left a cooler with some sheep medicine at the hotel. I contacted them they confirmed it was found said if I prepaid they would send it. I paid they never sent it. I called every week for over 3 months and they kept saying they had it and would mail. I was back up there this February. Managers claimed they never had it and he was unaware I called or paid.

It started with a parking lot so crammed together the vehicle barely squeezed through to the front door. When I got to my room the first light switch didn’t light anything. No hot water in the shower, some kind of something splatter on the ceiling above the bed, stained and dingy pillow cases, dust collecting, a loud heating and cooling unit and blackout curtains that wouldn’t stay closed all the way. I could have made excuses for the quality given its a less expensive hotel if it weren’t for the lack of hot water and dirty pillows. I’m very disappointed. The place lacks the basics of any place harboring guests.

The rooms look nice at first but then you realize the doors don't seal, the peep hole is broken so can look in from hallway, hall carpet and bedspread were full of dog hair. There was a hole in the ceiling in the bathroom. Hot tub was out of order. Waterslide did work but noticed c clamps holding a few places together. Although sign on pool door says no food or beverages, staff walked by several people with the big cans of beer. Staff is supposed to walk hallways every hour during night but apparently missed or didnt care about the excessively loud people in room next to us. It was a very long night. A year ago my husband stayed at same motel with his family. Said it has gotten terrible in just 11 months. Will not be choosing this motel again in the future. Had chosen because had good experience last year and the waterside and drive up rooms were a bonus.

The place was horrible. I was given a nasty dirty room with broken equipment. After contacting the front desk I was changed to another room which at least had working equipment but the cleaning had much to be desired to. Every day we walked by the same dead cockroach on the staircase. The smell of the food being cooked by the family running the place was awful. Rooms weren't cleaned even after asking for service. Had to go get my towels downstairs. Breakfast was not available until closing time (all that was left 30 min before end were 2 granola bars). I asked to speak to a manager before check out and was denied by the front desk
