Really nice building and grounds. Staff attentive and polite. Can't do enough for you! We had a plate of biscuits on arrival and then an 11pm plate of sandwiches to get over some nibble urges. Let down a little by the room size & view (room 2) but there's probably better available. Breakfast? AMAZING!!! Very British and nice to have it served rather than a buffet! Overall: 4/5.

First time back to Othello's restaurant at Astley Bank for a couple of years. 6 of us for the 3 course lunch menu. Lovely, relaxed atmosphere. Good choices and the food was to a very high standard. The strawberry cheesecake with Eton mess ice cream was totally delicious. 😋 So light and one of the best I've tasted. Sam was especially great. Very attentive and helpful as one of the party users a wheelchair. Will look forward to a return visit. 😊

Attended a friend's wedding reception lovely hotel we didn't stay overnight the function room and bar area are very nice nice large reception area set in nice grounds away from the main road only thing to mention is when you turn off the main road you encounter a seriously sharp tight bend it is sign posted once your round it it's a private road upto the parking area which is a short walk to the hotel

The owner/director should not be dealing directly with customers. His interpersonal skills are awful. We had a problem with the heating in our room and asked for a more heat as my wife was sitting in the room with a coat on. A tiny portable heater was sent up. It was nomore than 8 inches square and almost useless. We managed to get a larger one after being offered a new room and spotting the larger heater in it Rather than mess up a new room for one night we just asked that the heater be moved and I offered to move it myself Problem solved but we made the mistake of asking to speak to a manager to make him aware of the problem He did not listen to us but started the meeting by telling us that nothing could be done to please us and ordered us to leave the hotel. Never in hundreds of hotel stays have we met a man so awful. It was 8.15pm and we had just ordered dinner. We left and after a rather heated discussion we got our money back Maybe he had a bad day but he certainly made sure that we did.

Nice hotel, very good for the price. The hotel building is wonderful, decorated beautifully for Christmas. Extremely friendly staff. The room wasn't huge for a couple but as I was on my own it was fine. The room definitely had a slightly musty smell but certainly not a problem. Made up for by the Corby trouser press that I took advantage of! Breakfast was very nice. Would I stay again? Definitely. Very good value indeed

The biggest plus for this hotel was that it was a really cheap room booking. Paid for an executive room. Not a big room, the ensuite was almost as big. It's a historic, old building and it appears some of the original furniture is being used. Room smelt musty when we first entered the room and we opened the windows for several hours which improved it. The room decor could do with a sympathetic update. The bathroom appears to have last been updated in the 80's. The walk in shower door opened at the top of the stairs of the bathroom, surely a massive slip hazard. Our room had a large smart TV, tea making facilities, and a trouser press. One window looked out onto the gardens, the other window looked out onto a roof. The staff were helpful and pleasant. The gardens were beautiful, but I'd highly recommend removing the dead Christmas tree which appears on display slap bang in the middle of the garden. Lots of parking spaces. Steep hill to walk back up if you walk down into town. The building itself was beautiful with plenty of original features. I didn't see a lift, so may be an issue for people with mobility issues.

I came here for a work thing 20 years ago.Now I'm working for someone else 8m back again. other than a change of curtains I'm not sure the rooms have changed any. That said, the bed was comfy and I slept fine. Evening dinner (rump steak) was very good as was the breakfast (eggs Benedict)

Good location when you are jusr leaving Manchester with a car. We were very pleased with the price. The room was good for one night, just the walls a bit thin. The receptionist was helpful.

Attended a family wedding, stayed for 2 nights. The staff were all extremely friendly and seemed to enjoy working at the hotel. Nothing was too much for any of them, fantastic customer service. We had a standard room, it was very clean and comfortable enough for 2 nights. Fabulous breakfasts and all of the wedding food was superb.

Amazing hotel, beautiful surroundings, stayed for work, comfortable rooms and very warm comfy beds. The ONLY piece of advice i can give and the loss of one star, make sure if your staying for work etc, ask if they have any weddings booked during your stay. Stayed Wednesday and Thursday nights; a wedding was booked for Friday, the wedding party were seriously selfish, the noise being made between 10pm and midnight was a joke, despite being told to be quiet by us, and by staff, continuing to make noise outside people’s doors, and then started at 5am doors banging, seriously thoughtless group and totally unfair to other hotel users. So yes, a great place to stay, would well advise to ask if there are any weddings booked during your stay, just so you can sleep, had an awful second night with very little sleep.

Had a one night stay in this stunning hotel with beautiful grounds. We arrived and were checked in very quickly and professionally. Decided to have an evening meal. Food was amazing and the waitress was attentive and friendly. She served us our breakfast also and could not have provided a better service. Extremely friendly and hard working. Over heard a conversation with one of her colleagues planning ahead. Great communication and team work. Would highly recommended a stay. Enjoyed every single minute.

Lovely place, very old house and part of the heritage of Darwen. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the food is delicious. Bought some friends afternoon tea with prosecco as a gift so will let you know what they think too.

A party of 6 enjoyed a Sunday afternoon in the main dining room which is a nice warm and well furnished room. Most of the tables were occupied. The set three course Sunday lunch was reasonably priced at just under £32. I and my 5 other guests enjoyed our various choices from the set menu. The welcome we received on entry was professional yet friendly. The cauliflower soup with truffles and warm bread & butter was tasty and enjoyed by all. For mains all five enjoyed the roast beef and Yorkshire puddings whilst one of our party tucked into a vegan dish. A small disappointment by five of the party was the undercooked (raw) brocoli and carrot, those two vegetables were left on the plates by all of us!! This was only a minor issue so not worthy of a complaint of dissatisfaction. Then it was time for the dessert course, plenty of choice here so we all tried different choices and enjoyed what we each chose. There was a good choice of wine although we opted for the house wine which was very nice. We would return again and can recommend Astley Bank Hotel.

Great hotel. Breakfast was amazing!! 4 stars because although room was clean and bed comfy the general amenities I think were a bit basic for an executive room. Also missing a few hooks and things for storage. Staff were lovely and location is gorgeous and peaceful. Beautiful building

Wedding celebration evening. Fabulous night. The bride and groom's day had been superbly run. The evening food was beautifully laid out and a change from 'chicken legs and vol au vents'. Staff were very attentive and the service was first class. Well done to everyone at Astley Bank for a splendid celebration.👍

Quiet location generous car parking in pleasant grounds. Clean and tidy . No trouser press although there was a communal ironing board and iron that could be used if needed. Very handy for Blackburn

Lovely looking hotel from the outside, great location to the town as its only a 15 minute walk. The rooms are elegantly furnished and comfy. We had a suit which was large, the bed was very comfy and extremely quiet helped out by the extremely thick curtains. The breakfast was lovely and the staff were very helpful, friendly and attentive. We both enjoyed our stay.

The building was a bit dated in places but overall quite nice. The dining room itself was a pleasant place but the seats themselves were quite uncomfortable after a while. The four of us enjoyed our meals without it being outstanding. The overall experience, like the premises itself, was nice and the staff were A1. Would re-visit. Thanks to all.

You know what. It's an old building. Do you or I realise what goes into making this a place to stay? Probably not. It must have cost a fortune to make this into a hotel and restaurant. Well done is what I say. Look at my photos. Do what I did. Have a mini stroll in the garden. Enjoy being away. Thank you to all in the hotel and restaurant for being a pleasure to speak with too. And well done to the Young girl in the Bar and Restaurant showing two new Team the role. Pleasure. Everyone has been lovely which is so welcoming.

Staying in the Historic District Suites was like stepping into a bygone era. The suites were elegantly furnished, capturing the essence of the city's history. The staff's knowledge of the local landmarks was impressive. The central location made it easy to explore the historic sites on foot. We felt like we were part of the city's story. A memorable and enriching experience.

Stayed here a couple of times on business. Lovely surroundings. Bedrooms very comfortable although, possibly, a little dated. But it is an old building and maybe this should be forgiven. Staff are attentive, polite and professional. This could very well become my 'go to' hotel when in the area.

Found a room for £56, it was as expected. A £56 room at the back. Size etc standard fare. However. Everything else about the place is as it should be. You feel a welcome guest in a hotel that is so much more. I'm going back under less stressful circumstances and taking a room at the front. Silverware at breakfast.....

Myself and my partner chose this venue for our wedding and we were not disappointed. The venue is truly incredible and looked beautiful on the day. The staff were all very friendly and efficient on the day, and our wedding planners did a great job of making sure our day was as special as it should be. The only gripe I have is that after we paid the deposit and started the process, the communication was often slow and we were left wondering. Our original wedding planner went on maternity leave and we were not informed until we called to check in some time after she had already left. They placed us with a very suitable replacement, who did a great job, but it would've been nice to know. Nonetheless everything pulled through fine closer to the time, and they did a fantastic job overall. Also very good value for money, atleast by wedding standards!

Ate here again for the second time this year. The service is amazing!! The staff are amazing. The food is phenomenal. The homemade fresh bread is different each time you visit and oh my The chef who makes it could give a artisan bakery and good run for its money absolutely stunning. Absolutely everything we ate was delicious. I also absolutely have to mention how amazing sue is!! Her service is impeccable she makes you feel like you have known her all your life. Always an amazing greeting and knows little details that are important for instance tonight we over heard her speaking to a Spanish lady and she could knew small details from when the ladies children were actual children now young adults. Honestly I can not recommend Astley bank enough. 15 out of 10 on every aspect!! All the waiters and waitresses are fab at their job reception are a pleasure and the chefs certainly know their way around a kitchen!! Thank you so much!!

We had our wedding breakfast at Astley Bank last week, what an amazing venue! The beautiful building and grounds speak for themselves, they are immaculately maintained and are stunning to look at. What makes this venue stand out from anywhere else is it’s staff! They did an incredible job from start to finish working tirelessly nothing was too much trouble! They were great sports getting involved in the singing and dancing that was going on throughout the day and Bill the maitre d’ is an absolute hero. The food was delicious and the room was warm and welcoming everyone commented on how good the venue was, the bridal suite is stunning as well. We strongly recommend Astley Bank. Thanks for a great day Jack & Molly Shuttleworth ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Just been to Astley Bank on a wedding day and night do. We decided to stay overnight. We booked a room with the wedding party. The room was a standard room, as you can see from the pictures it was to a high standard compared to some we've stayed in at other hotels. The hotel and staff were great as was the food. The beer was reasonably priced which is good, as some venues charge the earth because your a captive audience. There is the opportunity for some nice pictures weather permitting. Would stay again 👍.

A great venue for a wedding. Bedroom was a decent size and reasonably priced. Only downside was 3pm check in with no option to pay for earlier check in. This ment we had to travel to the venue in our wedding outfits and check in after the ceremony.

Visited hotel for a wedding.. main reception and bar area look great and staff very helpful.. the bar is not cheap at all!!! Rooms I feel are in definite need of updating as ours was old and not the great condition. Shame really as the setting for the venue is really nice.
