A great place to sit and have lunch or just take a break and relax. It has seething built in around the column and also steps around its base that can be sat on. Usually has a water feature running down part of the walls which is a nice touch, but it’s not always functional. Plenty of shops around it for lunch food or anything else. Accessibly all times of the day/night Well maintained too....except for when the water feature breaks 😂

The Flaming Orb Monument is the a 23 metres tall Corinthian column that stands in the middle of Paternoster Square. The column is topped by a gold leaf covered flaming copper urn, which is illuminated with lights lighting at night. To be honest, the column is so tall and the orb so high up, it's actually difficult to see enough to really appreciate.

The Paternoster name comes from the medieval street on this site: Paternoster Row. The area was destroyed during the Second World War. In the square you can see the Paternoster Square Column. It is a Corinthian column of Portland stone 23m tall. On the top of the column there is a gold leaf covered flaming copper urn. The column was designed by Whitfield Partners, and it also serves as a ventilation shaft.

The centrepiece of the square is a huge column. It looks suspiciously similar to The Monument, Christopher Wren’s 62 m high memorial to the Great Fire of London. However, this one stands at a shorter 23.3m and is based on Inigo Jones’ corinthian columns for St Paul’s West Portico, destroyed in favour of Wren’s design we see today. Look to the top and you’ll see an urn of golden flames, similar to The Monument, this is because the column commemorates both fires that destroyed this area, in 1666 and 1940.

Relaxing area just next to St Pauls Cathedral and 2 mins walk from the tube station. Had big screen on showing BBC coverage of the Olympics, so guess it used for other sporting events. A few shops in the square to grab a bite and drink, though good luck finding a bin - which makes no sense to me 🤷🏻‍♂️. Public toilets are between the column and cathedral in a basement, 50p to use. Nice and relaxing though as people take a breather

Great location (Channel 4 First Dates) across from St Paul's cathedral, but a little expensive (nearly £50 for brunch for 2, plus 2 alcoholic beverages and kids meal)! Would go again but get lunch, not brunch...

Lovely place just beside the St. Pauls cathedral and St Pauls tube station. On a bright sunny it attracts a lot of Londoners.

Have wanted to photograph this Square for a while now and recently had the opportunity. I struggled to get there but it was worth it in the end. The column is magnificent as is The Sheperd and Sheep Statue. St Paul's Cathedral provides a wonderful backdrop. The whole Square is immaculate and conveniently close to St Paul's tube station so you don't have to walk very far.

Not knowing my way around London, I was just loving this little area, just beautiful, it made me smile on the way to St Paul's.
