Following a visit today for lunch we thoroughly enjoyed our main choice although found the white wine by glass choice limited to 3, not the best quality & quite pricey. The food was very tasty & well presented, location & interior decor & cleanliness of toilets ticked the boxes. Sadly we were disappointed with the customer service. 1 female staff who was obviously serving did not greet us or advise that she would be with us shortly so we just waited ! Once seated at table we noted 2 customers coming to bar to get her attention. A 2nd more experienced waitress joined momentarily. We also asked for attention on 3 occasions and our finished plates were left far too long on our table before collection. No finger bowl was offered for the mussels, we had to request one. Recommend far more attention is given to customer keeping an eye on their needs, a greeting when you arrive & depart, a few smiles and perhaps less chatting to chef who visited the bar! Service included & paid although grudging on my part. Believed observations wouldn’t have been accepted if highlighted to staff. Shame as service is key nowadays not only quality of food. Will not be returning.

Went here for a wedding recently and had a fantastic time. The food was incredible and the rooms were brilliant. The staff were really friendly and it was well decorated.

Gilbey’s is a firm favourite in my family for a weekend lunch or special treat. The food is substantial and well cooked. There are two areas the bar/brasserie and restaurant and we use the restaurant which has a warming fire and a window view of Eton high street. My mother is 78 and not so agile but they always take great care of her and any request. She loves the Jerusalem artichoke soup the fish - she just had hake and mash and the lemon tart w ice cream. It is/was a long held family business - we are from the area and I have seen Gilbey’s all my life. The owner recently died of bone/back cancer and they support the hospice through a £1 donation on the bill which has raised £30,000 to help other patients so far. (As an aside I had fish and chips which were crispy hot and delicious w fresh mashed peas.

We spent one night here, with dinner and then breakfast in the morning. Food was good...although I would have preferred a little more red meat on the menu! Staff were wonderful and friendly. Ideal place to stay for a trip to Windsor Castle. Excellent!

Gilbey's is a lovely hotel situated above a small restaurant in the heart of Eton just a 20 minute walk from Windsor Castle. We stayed in a beautifully decorated room with an equally lovely ensuite shower room and the most comfortable bed I've slept in. The staff at Gilbey's were very polite, friendly and helpful throughout. We opted for a full English breakfast which is an additional cost and served in the restaurant and it was worth every penny. The food was of an excellent quality and tasted amazing. We would most definitely stay here again.

Very average! I was holding high hopes for an experience that never happened. We booked Gilbey's for lunch on a Monday. On entering the restaurant we were ask if we booked. After giving our name we were pointed from the bar to our table "you're over there". The seating was cramped and table too small to hold any amount of drink or food. The staff seemed not to care about the struggle we had getting seated and made no effort to help. My wife was left sitting on her coat and my coat kept falling on the floor. I had to ask for somewhere to put my umbrella. My wife ordered an £11 cocktail which came in a plain champagne flute with no garnishing and looked very ordinary. Food service was rushed. We were offered bread while we waited for our starter and before we had even taken a bite of the bread our starters were brought to the table. When the mains came the plates were literally thrown on the table and my wife's almost toppling off the table. At no point of our visit were we asked how the food was and at no point asked if we wanted more drinks. The restaurant was not busy. This was proved by the staff standing around at the bar playing with their mobile phones. We got the bill and found we were charged £2.50 for two small slices of bread and a service charge which on reflection we should have disputed. To sum the experience up. The service was less than satisfactory. The food was very standard and no different to your average pub meal. Over priced and did not deliver on expectations. Such a shame that other establishments do a better job but do not get the recognition.

Cannot speak highly enough about this place. We were a party of 13 and nothing was too much trouble for the staff here. It's low key relaxed but smart. Food outstanding. We ate off the party menu - 3 courses for £30. Highly recommend. Will come back as soon as I can. Lovely walk through the town to get there from our hotel.

Very impressed with Gilbey's restaurant. Upon walking in from the street you are greeted with a large, plus and well decorated interior. We were a group of 10 people who received very attentive service from the waiter. The food was cooked and presented to a really high standard. Good wine selection. Great place to come for a special occasion.

Delightful little place a short stroll from the train station. Just three rooms so we were lucky to secure a booking Cosy decor, spacious bathroom, comfy bed and decent amenities. Welcoming and friendly staff. Food at the restaurant downstairs was superb. I tried cooked breakfast one morning and continental version next day, they were both very good. Dinner menu was great, after the first evening we decided not to look elsewhere and tried different dishes the following night.

Lovely restuarant. Had the cod ...very delicious! Rooms were tastefully decorated, clean and warm. Breakfast only served from 09h15, which was a bit dissapointing. But close to the castle, I would return for another stay.

A chance walk in for a meal on Friday night and they thankfully said yes. Definitely worth it. Lovely service. Great food and the most wonderful wine. Thank you.

We hired the conservatory room for our wedding reception and loved every minute of it! The space is beautiful, the food delicious and the staff very organised, friendly, accommodating and professional. We also hired a musical duo which they were very happy to have in the restaurant. We feel the pricing was also very fair. All of this not only made for a smooth experience but an absolutely wonderful and unforgettable one.

Best restaurant in Windsor and Eton. Better food, less bling and more peaceful than both the new brash Ivy on the hill, and the Cote by the river, so worth the short walk over the bridge. Not cheap by any means, even though the menu might seen a little basic (fish and chips, risotto etc) but an enjoyable experience.

Ate here tonight and really enjoyed it. Service was very good. Food was excellent and out of the ordinary. I had smoked salmon and crab roulade, which was served with Florence fennel, apple sauce and rye bread. Looked good and tasted super. For main course I had cod with bacon lardons and risotto. Also excellent. I would highly recommend for an excellent meal.

Had a wonderful three night stay at Gilbey’s, the staff were fantastic and the photos don’t do the size of the room justice.

Great place for a private function. Had a great experience and was well looked after. An easy booking process with Emma with options offered for a set menu and flexibility to accommodate a few dietary requirements. We had reserved the Gallery Private room for 17 people for my mother's 70th birthday and was a big enough space with access to a private courtyard out the back, which was ideal for the smokers in the group. We were well looked after by Violet and her colleagues and the food and wine and and service were wonderful. Would highly recommend booking Gilbey's for a private function in the future.

Went for my wife's birthday and we had a fantastic meal. Not a huge menu although all the courses we had were excellent (as was the wine). The service was also top-notch. Will certainly be going back again.

Love Gilbey's. Honestly, Sunday lunch here is a good notch or two above the standard fare. Great service, lovely decor. Don't hesitate if you are in the area. Thanks @gilbey's for looking after us today!

Highly recommend this restaurant! We arrived after a long day of boating and were delighted by a shared starter of succulent calamari and scallops. I went for the lamb rump with a side of shepherd’s pie and it was absolutely delicious, creamy spinach, rainbow carrots and mushrooms. The Chardonnay on the abbreviated menu was a winner, served by very friendly and attentive staff. Winner.

Early evening set menu on a Saturday. The food was absolutely delicious and cannot fault the service. All within a beautiful setting, cannot recommend enough.

I can't find fault. The wait staff were lovely. The food was delicious and served quickly. I had the sea bass on pecorino risotto with roast cauliflower and samphire. I can't recommend this place highly enough, I will definitely return.

The outdoors garden seating area was wonderful. Small, sunny with parasols, star jasmine and the sound of trickling water. Food and service excellent as always.

Christmas dinner on Saturday for about 15 of us. Great location and wonderful food, looked a nice restaurant but staff were really disinterested and rude. Food was delayed, we sat down at 8pm and had main course served at 10pm. Such a shame - I’m sure they’d had a busy day but that’s the job isn’t it. Something not right with the team or management.

Just next to Windsor bridge you will find Gillbey’s bar. Nicely served, but when you are in the far end of the restaurant it can be very noisy if there are several large groups.

Very good restaurant and would recommend. Highlighted by the fact that Tom Kerridge was eating in there at the same time as us. We went for the fixed price 2 course menu at £23. Excellent quality food, portion size was what you would expect from a quality restaurant.

Had an amazing meal with my brother and his wife who were staying in one of the rooms there. They said the rooms were great as well. Also couldn't have asked for better and more friendly service.

This was such an amazing experience, I visited on September 4th 2021. Your waitress that was there in the morning was so sweet and very helpful. The Full English Breakfast was absolutely perfect, even better than I could have ever imagined. From the melt in your mouth and delicious smokiness of the bacon, to the perfectly cooked eggs, and all the amazing jams you have (first time having black currant, and I love it now!) it was definitely a once in a life time experience. Thank you for making my first time in the United Kingdom a special one. I definitely reccomend checking this place out if you have the chance!

Dined as guests of friends at a celebration dinner. Staff very accommodating and polite. Food is generally very good, but some food pairings are strange.

Delicious, if expensive, lunch. Tables set well apart and service excellent. Offered tap water, which came in a jug with ice, at no cost. Would return, interesting menu, generous portions. Lovely waitress.

A really fine dinning restaurant with an excellent French Chef. The place offers variety of different high end dishes. A big choice of great wines and excellent service. This restaurant offers as weel a private event room for family or business dinners on the first floor with individual approach to clients need. Worth to stop and give a go for a great experience dinner for one, couple and group. The restaurant has a conservatory with sitting for I guess up to 30 people for private events, a garden and upstairs exclusive rooms to rent for stay and a presidential suit on the second floor. Cannot miss that whole in Eton!!!

What a meal!!!!!!! Hats off the chef and the team!!! The food I just had for dinner was INCREDIBLE - the texture, the taste the presentation.... This will now be my go-to place! Well done team (oh, and the wine selection is fantastic, we ordered this wine pictured, and it was superb) I highly recommend, hope you enjoy as much as I did :-)

Visited Gilbey's in Eton and was instantly welcomed by friendly, attentive staff who sat us in a cosy nook right by the window. Every item on the menu sounded delicious - making it so hard to choose! Show stopper: their White Lake Dairy Goats Curd Cheesecake with Saffron poached pear, herb salad and Jerusalem crisps starter was exceptional.. The bowl of muscles absolutely packed with flavor. Even the soup starter was sensational. If you're in the area, perhaps visiting Windsor castle, I highly recommend booking a table at Gilbey's. They're popular for a reason.. so don't miss out.
